Forced to wait another week for CBS's Watson and maybe a little disappointed with how Sherlock & Co.'s Black Peter turned out, the Bull Pups turn to Watson's Schrödinger's cat of a wife to fill some time. Later, Watson's literary agent dines at Watson and Stamford's favorite lunch spot, but maybe Watson gets let out. Not our biggest episode this year, but here it comes!
THE SOUL OF THE MOUNTAIN - It was fairly typical of my companion to reach a conclusion so easily and swiftly while for us it remained a blur on the horizon. Sherlock and Mariana - who apparently speaks every tongue known to man - spoke with the Japanese intruder... but it was in a quiet chapel where I would finally catch up with Sherlock and the truth would come within my grasp. On this first Friday of 2025, we continue with the conclusion of the Grateful Dead's New Year's Eve concert from December 31, 1971 at Winterland in San Francisco. A long, fun if somewhat sloppy at times show, the enjoyment the band was having is evident throughout.. After a Bill Graham intro they go into Truckin' then Billy really goes off as they go into a Other One jam, then quite interestingly enough into Me & My Uncle before going back into The Other One.. Some other highlights here include the first ever version of Big River, and the last Pigpen version of 'The Same Thing' which the band would not bring back for 20 years... There is some great high energy jamming in the 2nd half of the set, which apparently went on until 3:45 AM. If I hear, I have found my dream partner, my soul mate… I think it doesn't matter!!!Every worldly love will end soon. The negative feelings that are suppressed during this love facing up and destroying the relationship. Our parents had chosen a marriage of convenience, or their parents or astrology has chosen their “Right” spouse, and this didn't work out too.Nothing is working? My generation had lived without marriage certification together, and this relationship is much better. Because after the wedding your spouse is granted and can't escape. You can do what you want. The husband has pulled the Black Peter because after the law the husband has to pay in any case.Regardless how we have chosen our best match. What works at best is that both care for each other every day.Psychology has proved, when the sex or the communication is bad, the relationship is terminal! Many couples live together in frustration. When they start to communicate honest over their problems and start to have sex again, their relationship becomes healthy. After the WW2 in Germany, many soldiers didn't come home, and the widows connected with the left over. This is called the meal ticket relationship. Most of the time, the widows could not marry their new spouse because the government didn't support the widows anymore. These meal ticket relationships had been the best. Because both had not huge expectation, they had only the consents to live together, to support each other. This means even without your dream partner who is maybe becoming later your hell partner, you can live together happily if you get rid of your expectations. Both should decide to be together for some time, help each other and have sex. And this some time can last your whole life. Because you don't put yourself under pressure to must be together for 50 years or to expect too much from each other. This soul mate, dream partner or the right match has done worse than just to find a partner to live with, who cooperates and is not so selfish. Holy Smokes! It's Labor Day weekend! Hopefully this second set from the second Field Trip at the Oregon Country Fairgrounds can help you get in the mood for some fun and frolic as we celebrate the passing of another summer... This one starts with the debut of 'Keep Your Day Job' -- and not in the encore slot! Another debut - 'West LA Fadeaway' is also on the menu here. The pre-drums 'Playin In the Band' lifts things up while the post drums 'Wheel'>'Other One' is probably the highlight of this set.. Jerry pulls out a very unusual 'Dupree's Diamond Blues' as the encore here which I'm sure delighted the faithful.. "Deadhead Adventures: From Minneapolis to Alpine Valley"Larry Mishkin delves into a nostalgic recount of a Grateful Dead concert he attended on June 17, 1988, in Minneapolis, part of their Midwest Summer Tour. He reminisces about attending the show with friends Mikey and JT, detailing their travel adventures and the concert's setlist, which included memorable performances of "Hell in a Bucket" and "Far From Me."Larry also shares personal anecdotes about his experiences following the Grateful Dead, including the challenges of balancing concert trips with his professional life and the thrill of attending multiple shows in a short span. He transitions into discussing the significance of the song "Hell in a Bucket," its debut, and its frequent performance as a show opener. He explains the concept of "Mondegreens," humorous misheard lyrics, using an example from a Grateful Dead song review. The show revisits a story about a Phish fan who was initially banned from all Madison Square Garden Entertainment venues for smoking a bong at the Sphere. MSG later rescinded the ban, citing an internal error. Larry expresses surprise and amusement at the quick reversal and discusses the implications for fans. Finally, Larry discusses the resale of Dead & Company tickets for their Las Vegas Sphere shows, noting that many are being sold at face value or below on cashertrade.org. He expresses mixed feelings about fans having to sell tickets at a loss but appreciates the platform's role in preventing scalping. INTRO: Hell In A Bucket Track #2 0:00 – 1:34 [From David Dowd]: The Bob Weir / John Barlow / Brent Mydland song “Hell in a Bucket” directly references the biker scene, and I'm sure that somehow Barlow just wanted to put that element into the band's repertoire somehow. After all, there are plenty of outlaw elements sprinkled through the band's songs. “Bucket” debuted on May 13, 1983, at the Greek Theater in Berkeley. Alice Kahn wrote a review of the show, in which she promulgated one of the best-ever Mondegreens, referring to the song as “Police on a Joy Ride.” The song frequently featured as the show opener over the course of the next two-plus decades, although it wasn't used in that role until about a year after its first performance. It was performed by the Dead for the final time on June 30, 1995, at Three Rivers Stadium in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.“Hell in a Bucket” appeared on In the Dark, released in July 1987 (aka Touch of Grey album).Played: 217 timesFirst: May 13, 1983 at William Randolph Hearst Greek Theatre, Berkeley, CA, USALast: June 30, 1995, at Three Rivers Stadium in Pittsburgh, PennsylvaniaSHOW No. 1: Far From Me Track #6 3:18 – 4:45Brent MydlandGo To Heaven (April 28, 1980)Strong Brent tune. Roger Daltrey Shares Thoughts on Sharing Setlists Online and More, Ahead of The Voice of The Who Tour - Touching on his feeling toward revealing the contents of a performance online, Daltrey asserted, “I'm not gonna talk about songs.” Providing reasoning, he added, “Too many people reveal songs. There's no surprises left with concerts these days, 'cause everybody wants to see the setlist. I'm f–king sick of it. The Internet's ruined the live shows for me. Who wants to know what's coming next? People forget about surprises. I can't stand it. Here's an idea for Roger – don't play the exact same show every night! Mix up your songs and then set lists can only give you probabilities of what might get played. See the Grateful Dead, Phish and every other jam band ever. 4. As promised last week, here are the deets on Trey playing with Billy Joel in MSG last week: Madison Square Garden residencies have long been a career-defining staple of the New York City live entertainment location, with names like Billy Joel and Phish dominating multi-night show cycles, making the venue a known place to catch a memorable Big Apple performance. However, last night's performance was a truly unique event, a planned convergence for the two title-holders, Joel and Phish's Trey Anastasio. They teamed up on select songs, including “Sleeping With the Television On,” a cover of Derek and the Dominos' “Layla” and night closing “You Might Be Right,” featuring a Led Zeppelin “Rock and Roll” insert, sung by Mike DelGuidice. SHOW No. 2: Victim Or The Crime (First time played) Track #9 0:00 – 2:13 (long clip but it's the first time played so I had to run with it) Written by Bob Weir and Gerrit Graham Garcia – “It's one of Weir's stunningly odd compositions, but it's also very adventurous. It's uncompromising; it's what it is, and the challenge of coming up with stuff to play that sounds intelligent in the context has been incredible, but also appropriately gnarly. I really wanted that part of it to work.I think we did a nice job on the record with it. It works. Whatever it is, it works. I'm real happy with it because it was one of those things that was like, "What are we going to do with this?" It's like having a monster brother that you lock in the attic. It's like a relative that you -- "God, I hope nobody comes over when he's eating...." But that's one of the things that makes the Grateful Dead fun.” “The text of it -- I don't believe I've ever actually listened to all the words to it. Ever. I have the gist of it; by now I probably could recite it if I really had to, but the text of it is more of the same in a way, it doesn't have a whole lot of light in it. It's very dense, and it's angst-ridden to boot.” Played 96 times, “Victim” debuted on June 17, 1988, at the Metropolitan Sports Center in Bloomington, Minnesota THIS SHOW. It remained in the rotation thereafter, and was played for the final time on July 2, 1995 at Deer Creek Music Center in Noblesville, Indiana. SHOW No. 3: All Along The Watchtower Track #19 1:22 – 3:22 (another long one but could not break up the jam) "All Along the Watchtower" is a song by American singer-songwriter Bob Dylan from his eighth studio album, John Wesley Harding (1967). The song was written by Dylan and produced by Bob Johnston. Covered by numerous artists, "All Along the Watchtower" is strongly identified with the interpretation Jimi Hendrix recorded with the Jimi Hendrix Experience for their third studio album, Electric Ladyland (1968). The Hendrix version, released six months after Dylan's original recording, became a Top 20 single in 1968, received a Grammy Hall of Fame award in 2001, and was ranked 48th in Rolling Stone magazine's 500 Greatest Songs of All Time in 2004 (40th in the 2021 version). Dylan first played the song live in concert on the Bob Dylan and the Band 1974 Tour, his first tour since 1966. His live performances have been influenced by Hendrix's cover, to the extent that they have been called covers of a cover. The singer has performed the song live more than any of his other ones, with over 2,250 recitals. I always loved the Dead's cover of this tune. As you heard in the clip, it is a rocking tune and Jerry would really jam hard on it. Great snappy second set tune that would always get the crowd moving in the next gear. Played: 118 timesFirst: June 20, 1987 at William Randolph Hearst Greek Theatre, Berkeley, CA, USALast: June 22, 1995 at Knickerbocker Arena, Albany, NY, USA MJ NEWS 1. GOP Congressman Says ‘Millions Of Marijuana Users' Own Guns And Shouldn't Face Prosecution Like Hunter Biden Did 3. Marijuana Rolling Paper Company Will Pay $4.20 To Volunteers To ‘Smoke Joints For Science' SHOW No. 4: Black Peter Track #20 1:36 – 3:11 Garcia/Hunter tune released on Workingman's Dead in 1970. Robert Hunter was not afraid of death; he experienced it a thousand times over. The American musician composed the lyrics to many of The Grateful Dead's most successful songs and played an essential role in curating the band's mythos, one that saw the psychedelic rock outfit earn hordes of dedicated fans, or ‘deadheads'. One such song was ‘Black Peter' – written for the band's 1970 album Workingman's Dead. By 1969, The Dead were practically synonymous with the liberal drug culture of the hippie era. In the June of that year, Robert Hunter and the gang were given a glass of apple juice laced with “probably a full gram of crystal LSD … worth perhaps $50,000.” The intense trip that followed would completely reinvigorate Hunter's understanding of death and influence his subsequent lyrics for ‘Black Peter'. Bassist Phil Lesh would later recall tasting the LSD in the juice after a single sip: “I wish you could be where I am right now—it's so beautiful,” he told drummer Mickey Hart, “but I couldn't possibly play music now. I don't even know what music is.” Still, there was a job to do, so the band played anyway. In the ‘80's and ‘90's, one of Jerry's rotating post-drums second set ballads along with Morning Dew, Wharf Rat and Stella Blue. This version was one of the highlights of this show. Jerry's voice is strong if not a bit “ragged” around the edges just the way Deadheads liked it, with just enough emotion to really convey the song's meaning and its statement about the end of life. Played: 351 timesFirst: December 4, 1969 at Fillmore West, San Francisco, CA, USALast: June 22, 1995 at Knickerbocker Arena in Albany, NY OUTRO: Black Muddy River Track #23 4:09 – 5:55 Played: 66 timesFirst: December 15, 1986 at Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum Arena, Oakland, CA, USALast: July 9, 1995 at Soldier Field, Chicago, Il – looked like it was going to the last song of the show (encore) and the last song of the difficult summer tour. Turns out, it could have been the last song ever played in concert by the Dead, until Phil stepped in to leave everyone with a smile on their face and no bad taste in their mouths with a great second encore Box of Rain which then became the last song ever played by the Dead in concert. By contrast, this version is outstanding with strong playing and singing by Jerry. And, with the show practically on the banks of the Mississippi, it was a geographically appropriate song for the venue. Mikey, JT and I rolled off into the night, a crazy weekend in Minny, and then the next four shows on the tour at Alpine. Ah, to have the kind of energy again, even if just for a night. This week the Deadpod returns to Milwaukee for the second set of the band's performance from May 30, 1980. A fine Scarlet>Fire opens this set, including some excellent jamming in the transition (by the way check out this week's Deadcast for an excellent discussion of 'Scarlet Begonias' here: https://www.dead.net/deadcast) A seemingly short 'Playing In the Band' follows, but there is some excellent improvisation going on in the transition to a sweet drum segment that follows. 'Not Fade Away' flows into the 'Black Peter' and then into an excellent 'Goin' Down the Road Feeling Bad'. Bobby ends the set with a nice 'Good Lovin' but the boys really get worked up on the 'Alabama Getaway' encore.. not to be missed.. Grateful Dead Milwaukee Auditorium Milwaukee, WI 5/30/1980 - Friday Two Scarlet Begonias [9:18] > Fire On The Mountain [10:17] Playing In The Band [13:49] > Drums [7:39] > Space [2:20] > Not Fade Away [5:32] > Black Peter [8:50] > Goin' Down The Road Feeling Bad [7:21] > Good Lovin' [7:01] Encore Alabama Getaway [4:25] You can listen to this week's Deadpod here: http://traffic.libsyn.com/deadshow/deadpod053124.mp3 Have a fabulous week! thanks for picking us up!
We roll into April, and the prelude to the big Solar Eclipse, we get to hear a wonderful second set from the Grateful Dead's performance on Sunday, March 30, 1980 in Passaic New Jersey. While the setlist might look anything but innovative, the playing on these great classic tunes is anything but pedestrian. The entire pre-drums is full of some wonderful ensemble moments punctuated with some great Garcia solos. In particular, I'm fond of this 'Fire on the Mountain' and 'Eyes of the World' bu Weir's vocals on 'Estimated' are something else as well. Post-drums, the 'Black Peter' is quite soulful and the encore, 'U.S. Blues' was highlighted by an appearance on stage of John Belushi sticking a cartwheel on stage and grabbing a mic for a 'wave that flag' with the band... fun! Grateful Dead Capitol Theatre Passaic, NJ 3/30/1980 - Sunday Two Scarlet Begonias [8:28] > Fire On The Mountain [9:00] Estimated Prophet [11:04] > Eyes Of The World [10:50] > Space [4:24] > Drums [6:#00] > Black Peter [10:34] > Sugar Magnolia [7:54] Encore U.S. Blues [5:38] You can listen to this week's Deadpod here: http://traffic.libsyn.com/deadshow/deadpod040524.mp3 Of course, if you're looking up here in the Midwest Monday afternoon, be sure and wear those special shades ;)
There are few Huntington families that are as musically gifted and universally loved as the Campion family. In Episode 2, I'm privileged to sit down with Kevin Campion, lifelong Deadhead and current lead singer for Huntington's own Soghat. Kevin takes us back to the late 70's when he got on the bus, and explains how today he pays tribute to his late brother, “Hollywood Bob”, by sitting in as the front man in Bob's Grateful Dead cover band, Skeleton Crew, in Southern California. We paint the picture of just how much a select few Jerry ballads mean to each of us, including Black Peter, Wharf Rat, Stella Blue and Attics of My Life. We share how each of us treasure the memories of our beloved brothers and recall how each of them paved the way for us by breaking in our parents ;) The episode is the first of two conversations that will include the Campion brothers. Next up, younger brothers Chris and Billy of the Knockout Drops and Bogmen, respectively. Join us, and let's see where the energy takes us! #IFEhttps://music.apple.com/us/album/dicks-picks-vol-10-12-29-77-winterland-arena-san-francisco-ca/307801079 https://youtu.be/5Ms0COQQbE4?si=KOy8MiwIvUMBceeU
Here is the second set from the band's performance on March 3, 1981 at the beautiful Music Hall in Cleveland Ohio. They open with 'China Cat', while Garcia flubs the first verse, he makes up for it with a fine transition into Rider. A rockin 'Samson and Delilah' follows and then a long 'He's Gone'. The Drums section is particularly potent here, leading not into a long Space but instead into a 'Sailor>Saint' combo. The 'Black Peter' that follows is very soulful indeed. They close the set with 'Good Lovin' then return for a 'Casey Jones' encore. Grateful Dead Cleveland Music Hall Cleveland, OH 3/3/1981 - Tuesday Two China Cat Sunflower [10:56] > I Know You Rider [5:48] > Samson And Delilah [7:35] He's Gone [16:33] > Drums [12:41] > Lost Sailor [6:42] > Saint Of Circumstance [7:08] > Black Peter [10:31] > Good Lovin' [8:13] Encore Casey Jones [5:19] You can listen to this week's Deadpod here: http://traffic.libsyn.com/deadshow/deadpod030824.mp3 "See here how everything lead up to this day And it's just like any other day that's ever been Sun going up and then the sun going down"

This week's Deadpod features a historic performance - it occurred on the night the band was 'busted down in New Orleans' - January 30, 1970 at The Warehouse in New Orleans, Louisiana. Also historic as it was the last show that Tom Constantin played in the Dead.. but aside from that this is a fine show and I think you'll enjoy hearing this very good tape.. The tape is missing part of the opening Casey Jones, nevertheless good vibes here and on the following 'Me & My Uncle'.. 'Black Peter' is wonderful.. I also think the 'High Time in this set is absolutely perfect. 'Cumberland Blues' is hot.. hotter than you think that song should be ;) and is there a better song to pull out here than 'Easy Wind'? The 'Cryptical Envelopment>Other One>Cryptical' is hard driving Dead! They do a sweet transition into 'Cosmic Charlie' - sadly this one is cut as well... . Matt who had become part of my seasonal festivities died recently and as a tribute for the next two episodes I will be rerunning our previous frivolities. Santa Special It's the time of year when our thoughts turn to things festive, to the sharing of love, the sharing of joy, of light and happiness. But this doesn't happen without a bit of effort from all of us. Not least the jolliest of the jolly. In a world exclusive, I manage to track down and grab a few minutes of very precious time to talk with the big guy himself during a quick coffee break. I learn a little about what it really takes to make the festive season happen, how long it's actually been happening, and in this social-media-driven world, what hashtag Santa thinks best describes the true nature of the season. On this episode we are fresh off of Thanksgiving and still hungover on leftovers! We recap our Thanksgiving holiday and speak on all the food we ate. Next, we have to run back the Diddy & Cassie story since they settled amicably while we recorded the last podcast. With the speed in which he settled, you think he has a lot to hide or did he just want to be done with situation? Current NBA guard/forward Josh Giddey is in some hot water because we all found out he is dating a 17 year old. He stated that he was unaware and has been keeping things close to the vest but he in danger of losing partnerships and deals behind this. Has Black Friday lost its spark? We touch on how Black Friday used to be a crazy ordeal and now its just a month of "savings" online.
This week the Deadpod travels to the East Coast for a show that took place around 2 months after last week's show. This is the early show from the Fillmore East in NYC on January 2, 1970. This is quite a nice tape, don't let the few seconds at the beginning fool you. The 'Mason's Children' opener is a good representation of this somewhat odd song. 'Black Peter' is quite extended, much more than usual for this song. 'Hard to Handle' is explosive as usual. The boys really hit their stride here with the 'Cryptical Envelopment>Drums>Other One'. I quite enjoy the 'Cosmic Charlie' that follows but that's a tune I thought they never played often enough :) I hope you enjoy it.. Welcome to episode 77. We have some exciting news! Barry Grapefruit is organising a Total Christmas Podcast Convention, details are in the show. Then we have a Christmas Not So Classic. This time we're looking at another song by The Killers and it's called Boots. It's a great song, but not that festive.Have a listen:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UymN_kjYeFkNext it's Bob Baker who looks at what us Brits mean when we call someone a muppet. Then it's the quiz and you know you love it.Did you know Mariah Carey was in an advert for Walkers Crisps? Well she was, and you won't believe how much they paid her. Then it'c Christmas Everyday and thanks to the lovely Shelli Arnold, Bob Baker has another idea about how to keep feeling festive all year long.Last episode in Christmas All Over The World we looked at Sinterklass, now we're looking at his politically incorrect side kick Zwarte Piet or Black Peter. It's controversial stuff. This episode's recommendation is Office Ladies, hosted by Jenna Fischer and Angela Kinsey (Pam and Angela). Each episode they look at an episode of The Officer and it's just a great listen.https://officeladies.com/If you want to get in touch you can.Email: totalchristmas@gmail.comWebsite: totalchristmaspodcast.comMerry Christmas!
Well, I think that groundhog saw his shadow, but I've got a show for you this week that is sure to warm you up.. this one comes from way back in 1970 - from February 28, 1970 in San Francisco. While this was probably one long set, I'm going to play part 1 this week and part 2 next week. The show starts with an unusual 'Lovelight' to open, and it has a different sound to it in this spot, a bit more uptempo from the start, but quite fun to hear. After going into a 'Me & My Uncle' and 'Cumberland Blues' Jerry announces that they want to bring things 'down' a bit with some acoustic numbers. The next three tunes are just lovely renditions of 'Monkey & The Engineer', 'Little Sadie' and 'Black Peter'. The rest of the set is electric, starting with a smoking 'China>Rider'. Jerry slows it down a bit again with 'High Time' but we'll end this week's Deadpod with the always delightful 'Dire Wolf'. Grateful Dead Family Dog at the Great Highway San Francisco, CA 2/28/1970 - Saturday One Turn On Your Love Light [#12:47] > Me And My Uncle [3:02][0:11] Cumberland Blues [4:53][2:06] Monkey And The Engineer [1:40][0:27] Little Sadie [2:47] > Black Peter [8:35] Tuning [0:43] China Cat Sunflower [3:13] > Jam [3:09] > I Know You Rider [4:20] > High Time [6:35] > Dire Wolf [4:35][0:10] You can listen to this week's Deadpod here: http://traffic.libsyn.com/deadshow/deadpod020323.mp3 Thanks for listening!
PLEASE NOTE if you automatically downloaded this episode this morning you may have a corrupted file please redownload from this link! Thank you! This week we conclude our visit to the Uptown Theater with the second set from the band's performance on January 31, 1978. This set starts with a fine Scarlet>Fire with a wonderful transition with Donna hitting this just right. The Samson is raging, then the band goes into a delicious Terrapin Station, into a sweet Playing with Phil really adding some nice bottom. A short Drums and Space leads into an intense 'Black Peter', much longer than the earlier versions, then 'Truckin' leads into a set closing, and quite enjoyable 'Good Lovin'. No encore. Grateful Dead Uptown Theatre Chicago, IL 1/31/1978 - Tuesday Two Scarlet Begonias [11:57] > Fire On The Mountain [9:16] Samson And Delilah [8:15] Terrapin Station [10:11] > Playing In The Band [9:#04] > Drums [1:26#] > Space [7:42] > Black Peter [12:54] > Truckin' [8:53] > Good Lovin' [5:53] You can listen to this week's Deadpod here: http://traffic.libsyn.com/deadshow/deadpod012723.mp3 Thank you all for your kindness.

In this week's episode of 36 From The Vault, we dip into the Fall of 1977, because we haven't explored enough of 1977 in this series. Featuring the complete show from Rochester, NY on 11/5/77, we also hear segments of 11/2/77 from Toronto. A volume that puzzles Rob and Steve, we wonder a bit about why this show was selected in the series, while also admiring the subtle shifts we hear from the band between May and November 1977.Disc One features the complete first set from 11/5 and is highlighted by a stunning “Mississippi Half-Step Uptown Toodeloo” alongside a vibrant “Big River” which features some stunning leads from Jerry before Mickey & Billy push it into a disco space. Disc Two features the first half of S2 from 11/5 before providing snippets of 11/2. In the 11/5 half we hear one of the best “Take A Step Back's” ever alongside a gorgeous “Eyes Of The World.” The 11/2 half showcases “St. Stephen” alongside a ripping “Around & Around.” (That was not a typo)Finally, Disc Three is highlighted by the back half of 11/5's S2 with a mellow take on “Estimated Prophet>He's Gone>Rhythm Devils>The Other One>Black Peter>Sugar Magnolia.” We close with “Lazy Lightning>Supplication Blues” from 11/2. It's a confounding release - especially this deep in the series - but Rob and Steve provide the kind of insight needed to make it shine.36 from the Vault is a production of Osiris Media. It is edited, produced and mastered by Brian Brinkman. All music composed by Amar Sastry, unless otherwise noted. Logo design by Liz Bee Art & Design. This week's Deadpod features a fine recording of the second set from the Rex Benefit that took place on March 13, 1985 at the Berkeley Community Theater. The boys give us a most excellent start with a fine 'Music Never Stopped' into 'Franklin's Tower'. While Jerry flubs a few lyrics here, he more than makes up for it with his fine soloing work. Bobby continues the first-rate performance with a great 'Estimated Prophet' into a bluesy 'Spoonful'. Hamza El-Din joins on drums and space as well as on 'Ollin Arrageed' which inexplicably, goes into a 'Man Smart/Woman Smarter'. Jerry delivers a decent 'Black Peter' but it seems clear to me that they are running out of steam by the 'Good Lovin' finale. A very nice 'Brokedown Palace' encore redeems that however and I'm sure sends everyone home smiling.. Grateful Dead Berkeley Community Theatre Berkeley, CA 3/13/85 - Wednesday Two The Music Never Stopped > Franklin's Tower > Estimated Prophet > Spoonful (1) > Drums (2) > Space (2) > Ollin Arrageed (2) > Man Smart (Woman Smarter) (2) > Black Peter (1) > Good Lovin' Encore Brokedown Palace Comments Rex Foundation Benefit ; (1) w/Matt Kelly ; (2) w/Hamza El-Din You can listen to this week's Deadpod here: http://traffic.libsyn.com/deadshow/deadpod031822.mp3 Happy Vernal Equinox! thanks for your kind support.

In every generation, there are those who resist the sweeping tide of proscription and conformity. For New York based artist Gio Black Peter, such a reaction comes naturally. Through his work, he is able to break through the hardening shell of uniformity and tap into something more honest. At its core, Gio's art is a provocation and, whether addressing issues of violence or oppression, alienation or love, it seeks to spark a reaction in its audience. While that reaction may be visceral and dejected, or ecstatic and inspired, the ultimate aim is to fuel awareness, both of the self and society. In that, Peter's art is a mirror of his own life—the two are, at times, indistinguishable. Cleary Gio's provocations are striking a nerve as he constantly having to battle against unwarranted censorship on social media.
