KNOW FEAR with Tony Blauer

Lifelong martial artist, kettlebell pioneer and movement specialist,  Shawn Mozen has been studying 'physical culture' for decades.  His approach to training and coaching is refreshing because it's grounded in a philosophy that mirrors real-life: train to train, embrace the journey, do the work.  Simple.  But in this age of 'shortcuts' and 'secret hacks' many people miss the point of the journey.   I've known Shawn for decades. He's not only a friend but he's a challenge to keep up with because he's also irreverent, sarcastic, witty and smart.  This episode of KNOW FEAR will educate and entertain.  Meet Shawn Mozen. ******ATTENTION! EVENT: Grip Strength Kettlebell Sport Competition WHEN: Sept. 10, Nanaimo, BC WHERE: Island Optimal Health & Performance HOST: Ballistic Strength Kettlebell Gym & Nanaimo Kettlebell Club WEBSITE: http://www.gripstrength.ca   Do you know when the first kettlebell sport meet in Canada was held?  Ballistic Strength did some digging.  On the southern tip of Toronto, Ontario’s Portuguese district, in the downtown west end, a Crossfit Box by the name of Academy of Lions held a kettlebell sport clinic in May of 2010.  It was there that Boris Terzic and Eric St-Onge, two pupils of WKC founder Valery Fedorenko, took their obsession and shared it with their fellow countrymen.  Following shortly thereafter, Boris Terzic, with the assistance of Shawn Mozen from Agatsu, put on the first Kettlebell Sport Meet in Canada, on July 17th, 2010.  Competitors included Ryan Kennedy of the Toronto Kettlebell Club and Fighting Arts Collective, IUKL Judge and Veteran Lifter Mike Sherman - a former guest on this show, and longtime competitor Estella Hom.  Never having organized an event quite like it before, Boris had his doubts.  Only 1 lifter was registered just 2-weeks prior to the meet, and it seemed as though history might not happen after all, but a little bit of luck and word of mouth ensured a roster of 15 lifters.  I’m joined on this episode by Eric St-Onge, a former competitive KB Sport athlete and North American record holder in the 32kg jerk at 101 reps.  Eric hung up his lifting shoes, and is currently working has as a chiropractor at FITS Toronto, the official Sport Science facility of the TO Argonauts, as well as serving as a Sports Sciences Resident at Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College.  Eric may have been absent from Canadian KB Sport as of late, but rumour has it we may just see him grace the platform by Feb of 2017.  Eric had lots to share - his own personal triumphs and tragedies, and even some tips that may boost your kb game. Find Eric here: www.drericstonge.com ****************************************************************** On May 28th, 2016 The Canadian Kettlebell Sport Nationals returns to beautiful BC, in the seaside town of Sidney, which lies just outside of the province’s capital.  This is the official Canadian Qualifying event for selections to represent TEAM CANADA at the 2016 WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS in Kazakhstan.  All lifters worldwide are welcome to attend and encouraged to compete. A variety of complimentary therapy services ( Chiro, Massage,Physio)  will be available to all lifters during the 2016 Canadian KB Nationals….all provided by - Fix Healthcare of Victoria And Neil Hodge Photography will back again for 2016 to capture all the excitement at our National Championships, so feel free to leave your cameras behind. The Canadian Kettlebell Alliance is also excited to announce that ARTUR SASIK, TEAM UKRAINE COACH, will be present at CKA Nationals to compete as well as conduct an informative Sport Training Workshop the following day on May 29th.  The seminar will be held at ZUMA MARTIAL ARTS & FITNESS, directions can be found on the event page at www.victoriakettlebellclassic.com.  All competitors are encouraged join in this unique opportunity with Artur while in Victoria.  Lifters NOT competing at Nationals are also encouraged to take part and improve their Kettlebell Sport skills and knowledge.  A brief BIO of Artur can be found on the event page - Registration for this workshop closes April 8th, so do not delay! Information regarding 2016 Team Canada selection criteria can be found on the event website (www.victoriakettlebellclassic.com) If you are not familiar with proper KB Sport lifting rules, you should contact a Certified Kettlebell Sport Coach and make sure you are familiar before  competing. There will be a Pre-Competition Meeting to review the Rules before Competition begins along with a Lift Demo, however lifters & coaches should be familiar with the official regulations of the AKA/ IUKL prior to the competition

Ali, Tyson, Holyfield, the list goes on and on as a who's who of boxing greats and Alexandre Choko has met them all. Sitting in his office surrounded by 55 pictures of the boxing insiders that he interviewed for his astounding book (The Future of Boxing) we discuss his journey and the stories that boxers, trainers and writers shared with him. After a five year odyssey that  had him selling off his gym, and car to finance his passion what did he learn? What did the greats of boxing share with him and why does Shawn Mozen say "The Future of Boxing is more than a fight book. This is a must read for anyone who wants to understand passion and what it takes to make it to the top. Just as business people read The Art of War, everyone should read this book to learn what it takes to turn a dream into a reality."
