Filly is joined with Joanne Ling and Tracey Fry, sisters and founders of Additive Free Lifestyle. I've been following these inspiring ladies for years now, so I was super excited to have the chance to chat with them about all things living an additive-free lifestyle! There are so many meaty bits in this convo, and also some really simple action steps you can take to reduce your toxic-load and support the health of your body. About Jo & Tracey Two Sisters on a Mission - We are Jo and Tracey, we are sisters and both mothers, both wives and both (now) into living the healthiest and happiest lifestyles we can. It wasn't always this way though! Together we created Sistermixin' which has now grown to become Additive-Free Lifestyle. We are passionate about changing the way you look at food and toxins in and around your home and spreading the message that these can be toxic to your health. We're just two down-to-earth mums with a #dontstressit approach that's helped hundreds of thousands of people improve their health and wellness. It's a very special job and one we never take lightly. In today's episode, Jo & Tracey talk to Filly about: Jo shares her journey into ditching the additives in food, after her child was experiencing severe behavioural problems and getting sick all the time with infections. Tracey also shares how she moved slowly into living an additive-free lifestyle, and how she cleaned up her act when diagnosed with the autoimmune thyroid condition, Grave's disease. We chat about how we can create a #dontstressit mindset when reducing our toxic-load, rather than getting stuck in perfectionism and fear around additives and chemicals. Top additives in food to avoid, and 5 foods that are loaded with nasty additives (a couple are super surprising!). How you can get more easily informed and make simple swaps, using the new Additive-Free Lifestyle App. Show Note Links: Book launch?? We are over the moon to be recording this podcast on the very day our new website goes live. You guys are going to absolutely love all the hard work and love we've put into additivefreelifestyle.com, which resonates with everything that we're now about!   To be honest, we're a bit sad to leave Sistermixin' behind, as it was such a massive part of our lives for a good four years. In saying that, all the sadness is totally outweighed by our excitement for our new branding. We've been thinking about it, and talking about it for so long, and we can't believe it's now a reality! Our course we want to offer a huge THANKS to all our amazing listeners who have stuck by us, continuing to help spread our additive-free message to all your friends and family! Now we need your help! Starting a new website means we lose all of our reviews, along with comments on recipes and shop products, that means all of your hundreds, if not thousands of positive reviews and comments have gone down the gurgler! If you could see us right now, we're literally on our hands and knees, begging you to help us win these all back! So if you've loved one of our shop products, a recipe or a podcast episode, and have found that it's made a huge change in your life, leave us a comment! Show the love, it means so much to us! To create just one recipe, it takes us a lot of time and resources, so your beautiful comments truly lift us up, and remind us why it's worth all the late nights, weekend work and bucket loads of hard work. When we know we're making a difference, it makes us feel amazing and helps us to forge ahead with our legacy! We wanted to share with you all the big changes that you'll notice over the coming weeks and months in this short and snappy podcast. While the Whole Circle Podcast is remaining unchanged, Sister Mixin is getting a huge re-branding which is soo exciting. So let's get straight into it! Our brand new name is…. “Additive Free Lifestyle”! And guess what? You as our doted audience are the very first to hear our new name! Over the last few weeks, we've been sharing on our many social media platforms, that exciting new changes are in the pipeline, so I'm sure you can agree it was well worth the wait! But there's more… Why are we changing the Sistermixin' name? We feel it's really important to offer to the world a more fitting brand, especially with all the growth that has occurred since Sisterixin' was born as just a food blog. That's not to say we haven't enjoying every single moment of the journey. When we named ourselves Sistermixin', we never could envisage where we are now, with all our programs, courses, blogs and podcast show. All of these many aspects truly make what we are a lifestyle. We have both grown exponentially and learnt an unforgettable wealth of information since the beginning. Last but certainly not least we wanted to acknowledge you, as our listeners for all of your many reviews and incredible feedback, which will sadly be lost in the transition to the shiny new website. If you do stumble across a great recipe within our new website, we would love you to add a quick review keeping this data loss in mind. Throughout the many trials and tribulations of making this business happen, it brings us so much joy to do this job of ours. What we receive back from you simply fuels the fire. We are just so passionate about what we do! We hope you enjoy the many changes to come!

In this episode, it's all about hints and tips for better lunches. If you've got access to a microwave, toasted sandwich press or mini-oven for your work, or even at high school, then you have a lot more options and variety when it comes to lunch choices. Don't worry if you're a tradie or work outdoors with no access to these heating devices, we also have some great tips for you. If you're one to always buy your lunches through shortage of time, or lack of inspiration, or perhaps you don't eat lunch all together, it's time to mix up your routine for the better! We really want to focus on long-term gains from the nourishing food you're putting in your body, especially when you're on a busy schedule. Making it through the day on coffee and Red Bull, might give you a short spike in energy, but along with poor snack choices or skipped lunches, you'll know all about that sluggish feeling that seems to follow you around all day. Obesity is also an all too common effect of a poor diet, and skipping out on lunch generally makes you eat anything in sight by the time you get home. The good, the bad, the ugly on pre-packaged lunches Having someone else cook or prepare your lunch, and present it in a tidy package is great for all those days when you're just too busy to make your own. However, there's just so many reasons why bought lunches should be left solely as a treat. Remember, when it comes to healthier lunches, you're allowed to put yourself first! If you're not healthy and full of energy, it can be hard to give fully to your children, partner, work colleagues and boss. When you're tired, moody and constantly feeling fatigue, then you can't easily be of service to anyone else. We had a great trip to Philippines for a conference, which ended up being one of the most life changing events we've ever attended. As we're both busy mums we find we can get lost in the role of motherhood and neglect our bodies, often forgetting to give ourselves the love we deserve. In particular, with Jo, she has learnt to say "no" which might sound harsh but is certainly needed in order for her to save time for herself each day. We both touch on the importance of exercise and the impact that makes on our day and what other positive habits flow from that. Jo even makes the shock statement that she has been getting up much earlier each day- if anyone knows Jo they know she isn't (or wasn't!) a morning person. We talk about the importance of keeping strong connections with friends and finding the time for them. We also delve into the benefits that Tracey has discovered of yoga, massage and club netball and how that has completely changed her mindset and boosted her confidence. Last but not least we talk about our burning desire for Sistermixin' and how pursuing our dream has impacted so greatly on our lives. What is sprayed on your food stays on your food,so when you eat your food it ends up in your system. This is something many of us don't want to happen. People think going organic is difficult, or that is is really expensive, but we are here to tell you that it isn't, and anyone can eat an organic diet, with just a little bit of extra care! In this episode, we talk about how you can start eating more organic healthy food even if you're on a tight budget. Here is a summary of the tips we talk about in this episode of The Whole Circle: Tip #1: Buy in bulk Whatever food you're buying, if you're buying in bulk you will definitely save money in the long run. One way to do this is to look around and join a coop. Buying through a coop can save you lots of money. If you can't find one, start one! Tip #2: Buy in season When fruits and vegetables are in season they're cheaper. Stock up, puree, freeze or preserve as much as you can. Tip #3: Use your freezer It's no secret that we love to freeze lots of things at Sistermixin. Keep and eye out for a secondhand freezer and use it to store all the bulk produce you have bought (or preserved). Tip #4: Shop locally Go to your local farmer's market and look for organic food. Food is cheaper at the farmer's market and you can always talk to farmers and ask them about the pesticides they use. Tip #5: Eat great quality, nutritent dense foods It's a fact that whole foods and healthy fats are so good for the body! Not only are they full of nutrition, they will also keep you feeling full for longer, which, in turn, saves you money. You are less likely to head to the pantry for snacks, or impulse buy when you are not even hungry. Tip #6: Be a good neighbor Getting to know your neighbors and sharing more will encourage a generous atmosphere. Give and you shall receive. Tip #7: Grow your own food You don't need to have a green thumb to do this. Plant veggies, or some fruit trees. By growing things in pots, or your backyard, you don't need to buy them anymore, plus you can ensure they are 100% organic. We hope these tips will help you start eating more organic food without breaking the bank! If you've loved this episode, please leave us a review. We'd love to know what you thought. How We Came Back From Losing It All

We are asked all the time “How did you come back after losing your entire website?" And "Why did you make the effort to come back?” It was a bit of a touchy subject for a while, but now that we have moved on past the anger and hate we felt towards the company that did that to us, we feel it's time to answer and explain, and what better way than right here in this podcast. Hopefully, we can inspire you, the next time you are in a similar situation. Struggling with something that seems too hard to handle, not sure how to get past the first hurdle and let go of the anger or hatred, not sure of the next step to take, or when things just seem too hard... Let us share our story and explain the steps we took to make the comeback we deserved. In Jo's own words: “Shit happens and as devastating as it is, there is always a step forward that you can go.” This lesson is applicable not just in losing a site as big as ours, but also in your journey towards a healthier and happier you. Never underestimate the power of community, determination, and stubbornness in propelling you through roadblocks along the way! Show Highlights In this episode, we discussed: How our problem all got started The gravity of what was lost by our former website host Our experience with pursuing legal action against the hosting company responsible Why we ultimately drop any legal action so we can focus on what really matters: helping you How we, our families, and our audience benefited from this decision to let go How emails, messages, and comments from you inspired us to keep going The story of how we realized how big and great our community really is! Why you shouldn't be afraid to ask for help when you're in trouble This episode is dedicated to every one of you who inspired and helped us pick ourselves up and get back to helping others (which makes us happy). Without your help we would never have come back as fast as we did and would never have been able to retrieve all the recipes lost from our database. What happened did not diminish our desire to keep helping others, nor did it stop us from growing our business. In fact, since coming back last March, we've done some amazing things here at Sistermixin': We've launched a podcast We've released a cookbook We've conducted a couple of free 7-Day Challenges Jo has quit her part time job to work full time on Sistermixin' (this was epic and so exciting) We realised what makes us happy (all of you!) We have released a stack of new recipes We have conducted another round of Additive Free Made Easy Things are going gang-busters and we couldn't be happier. You guys are our rock, and we love you all to bits. Seriously, without the community support we received, nothing would have been possible. Through all the tears of anger and hate, came tears of joy and love, and for that we will be forever grateful. Love and appreciation Tracey and Jo xxx If you've loved this episode, please leave us a review. We'd love to know what you thought. Top Five Tips To Eating Additive Free

The Additive-Free Lifestyle Podcast Show

In this episode of The Whole Circle we share our top five tips to living additive free. They are easy and anyone can do it, we promise. Tip One – Start Out Slow You might be like Tracey and have the privilege of being able to take things a bit slower, or you might be at your wits end (like Jo was), ready to explode. Either way, we still recommend taking it slowly when just starting out. This is for a few reasons. First, it allows everyone to come to terms with the transition. If you go full-boar and make drastic changes, then chances are you will have the kids up-in-arms about it all, and that will just stress you out even more. You will probably return to your old eating habits and nothing will ever change. By taking it one packet mix, one meal or one day at a time, you will have a chance to introduce new things without as much resistance. Think of it like running a marathon, no one just goes out and runs 45 kms without ever training for it. They put in the training, starting out small, working up to the big event. Eating A&PF is exactly the same. It is a decision that will change the rest of you life, so there is no need to rush, just gradually make your way through your fridge and pantry, making the necessary changes as you go. When you run out of an item, replace it with a better choice. Most of the time your family will not even notice, especially when the changes are small. Tip Two – Don't Expect That You Will Know Everything It has taken years for the both of us to gain the knowledge that we have. This has involved many, many hours of reading medical jargon, listening to wellness experts, attending seminars, doing online courses and basically absorbing as much information as we can about the topic. It wasn't an easy path to learn all the information we did, and we are still learning, every day. There are constant changes in food, more specifically ingredients added to food, and it takes a lot of time and energy to stay current. So give yourself a break, no one is expecting you to be an expert overnight. Tip Three – Join A Like Minded Community It is important to surround yourself with people who are on the same journey, this helps you stay on track. You can learn from one another, ask questions without any judgement, and simply belong to a community of people who are all doing the same thing as you – learning. We have a fabulous community of people at Sistermixin', it's something we are so proud of, there's never any judgement and we all support each other #GoUS Tip Four – Get Your Partners And Family Involved This is probably one of the things people find the hardest to handle when transitioning into an additive free life. Some families find it really difficult, and the biggest hurdle. The best advice we can offer is to be open and honest with all your friends and family, right from the start. Make them aware of the issues you are having, the health concerns you are facing or whatever the reason is for starting the additive free process. By keeping your family and friends informed of what you are doing, they will (hopefully) be completely supportive. Tip Five – #DontStressIt We have a motto throughout our Additive Free Made Easy course, and that is #dontstressit. By this we mean, don't stress out if you have a bad day and things seem overwhelming. Just take a deep breath, get back on board the next day and remember this is a lifetime change, not a fad that will pass in five minutes. If you have no other choice but to get take-away because your flight was delayed five hours – #dontstressit! If you have not had time to bake and need to buy some biscuits – #dontstressit! If you buy a cooked chicken for dinner, instead of roasting your own – #dontstressit! You...
