Is there more to the Cancer Zodiac sign than just being"the nurturer"? ♋✨ Join clinical aromatherapist Elizabeth Ashley (The Secret Healer) and Adam Barralet for a "sideways" journey into the heart of the Cancerian archetype. In this episode, we explore why Cancerians are the "mother hens" of the zodiac (regardless of gender!) and how specific essential oils can support their unique emotional and physical landscape. From the "womb knowledge" of Myrrh to the gentle community spirit of Roman Chamomile, we look at how plants reflect the Cancerian desire to create a safe haven. We alsotackle the "moody" side of the crab—exploring how Eucalyptus helps us breathe through heated emotions and how Patchouli grounds those who find themselves lost in nostalgia. Finally, we dive into the traditional world of Medical Astrology. Discover why the Cancer sign traditionally governs digestion, the lymphatic system, and the breasts, and how botanical allies like Fennel can be used to soothe the "stewing" of astressed-out Cancerian.
As women, we pour out all day — into our families, our work, and our responsibilities. But true wellness begins when we intentionally refill our own cup. In this special Galentine's-inspired episode, Kari shares how essential oils can help regulate the nervous system, boost confidence, and support deeper emotional and relational connection. You'll learn how scent directly impacts the limbic system (the emotional brain), why stress can shut down desire and presence, and how simple essential oil rituals can help you feel calmer, more confident, and more connected in your everyday life. This episode is a gentle invitation to slow down, care for your body, and reconnect with yourself — emotionally, physically, and spiritually. ✨ Remember: You don't need to fix yourself. You need to tend to yourself.

If you've been doing the inner work… holding the vision… and the dream still hasn't landed — this isn't a failure. In midlife, manifestation doesn't break. Capacity shifts. This episode isn't about mindset, discipline, or wanting it more. It's about understanding what happens when the body no longer agrees to push — even toward the things it wants. You'll hear why:• exhausted bodies don't manifest• midlife capacity is different from hustle capacity• safety comes before expansion• vision without embodiment stays conceptualThere's nothing here to fix.Nothing to force. This is an identity reframe — not a teaching. If your dreams haven't landed yet, it may not be because you're blocked. It may be because your body is protecting you.Links from the video:Manifesting on the Mat playlistYoga for Manifesting: Unlocking the Power of the Law of AttractionManifesting For Beginners Enjoy!LauraTimestamps: 0:00 - Intro to the video 1:18 - Intro to me2:24 - Reason 13:56 - Reason 28:12 - Final thoughts+++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Anxiety spiking? Try this instead. If you've ever felt "off" and couldn't quite find your way back—this episode is for you. I'm joined by my friend Jenny King (acupuncturist + certified aromatherapist) for a deeply grounding, practical conversation on using essential oils as part of your real-life support toolkit—especially when you're dealing with stress, overwhelm, perimenopause shifts, migraines, or that frazzled "10,000 things" feeling. This is not about any specific brand, and we're not selling you anything. It's education, nervous system support, and a gentle way home. We start with a simple guided moment (yes, you can do it even if you don't have oils), then walk through how to pair oils with acupressure points—like a "lock and key" for your energy and your body. Heads up: This episode is a little different than usual. If you can, listen when you're not driving—you may want a pen and paper. After 30 years as a life coach, I've learned this: real change doesn't come from hustling harder or chasing perfect balance — it comes from small mindset shifts practiced consistently. In this episode, I'm sharing 7 mindset shifts that genuinely changed my life and my work, especially in midlife. These are the perspectives that helped me let go of people-pleasing, stop waiting for permission, work with fear instead of against it, and trust that growth happens through tiny daily choices. We talk about why balance is overrated, why tiny actions matter more than big plans, how fear and excitement feel the same in the body, and why your inner voice shapes everything. If you're stepping into a new year — or a new chapter — and want to grow with more ease, clarity, and self-trust, this episode is for you. This is mindset work for women who are done shrinking and ready to evolve — gently, honestly, and on their own terms.LINKS from Video:

Dr. Hoffman continues his conversation with Maggie Frank, the national educator for CV Sciences, makers of PlusCBD Oil.
Exploring the Benefits and Science of CBD and Canna Mimetics with Expert Maggie Frank, the national educator for CV Sciences, makers of PlusCBD Oil. She has a deep-dive into the latest updates on CBD (cannabidiol) products, their benefits, and distinctions from THC (tetrahydrocannabinol). Frank explains the endocannabinoid system and how phytocannabinoids like CBD can help achieve homeostasis in the body, aiding in stress management, inflammation, and gut health. They discuss the nuances of different cannabis plants, the current landscape of CBD research, and the misconceptions around THC use. Additionally, Maggie introduces some innovative CV Sciences products, including those that do not contain CBD but offer similar benefits through canna mimetics—natural compounds that mimic the effects of cannabinoids. Among these products are a focus-enhancing gummy and a metabolic support formulation called ReShape. They also touch upon upcoming legislation and how it impacts the hemp industry. The discussion highlights the broad-spectrum potential of CBD and related compounds in promoting overall health and addressing various conditions.
Storytelling through Life's Lowest PointsThe moment your voice catches and your chest tightens can feel like the end of your story. For Lauren, it became the beginning. After a postnatal mental health break that made everyday conversations feel impossible, she chose help—counseling, integrative care, and small, steady choices that made life breathable again. That path led her to study aromatherapy seriously, blend with intention, and build Essence One around a simple idea: one honest breath can change a day.We walk through the real climb. Early farmers markets and $30 days. A State Fair booth that forced a leap from “after hours” to full-time. National retail that looks shiny from the outside, and why the spa world—Waldorf Astoria, Ritz-Carlton, Four Seasons—was the right fit because it could hold both story and experience. We get specific about missteps too, like the 150,000 bottles ordered on a verbal yes, and the contract lesson that followed. Throughout, Lauren keeps the claims grounded: aromatherapy doesn't cure anxiety or depression; it's a tool alongside therapy, medication, sleep, and movement that invites a deeper inhale when you need it most. This is also a family story. Hiring her husband. Opening a retail shop inside the Disneyland spa. Teaching teens to shrink-wrap, sell, and take pride in work. Noticing when “lazy” is really misalignment—too much caffeine, too little sleep—and drawing new boundaries. We talk about storytelling as strategy and service, supporting teen mental health clubs through Bring Change to Mind, and the quiet role of faith when anxiety spikes before cameras or sales calls: prayer, music, breath, repeat. If you're a mother building a business, or a founder craving less noise and more presence, this conversation offers practical strategies, honest tradeoffs, and a reminder to define your own success. Haumea is not only a Hawaiian goddess of childbirth and regeneration — she is also the name given to a trans-Neptunian dwarf planet discovered in 2004. In astrology, Haumea is associated with creative renewal, lineage, earth stewardship, and the cycles of life that break apart and re-form. When Haumea appears strongly in a birth chart, she often signals the place where we are called to midwife our own becoming. We also discuss essential oils that resonate with Haumea's field of creation-through-transformation, including:Fragonia for reconciliation and gentle integrationBlue Lotus for expanded awarenessCistus for remembering what has been lost and returning to wholenessThese oils can be combined into aromatherapy blends that support personal renewal, ritual work, or transitions where identity is shifting.Whether you are exploring myth, planetary archetypes, or plant work, Haumea invites us to honour the ongoing process of death-and-rebirth that underlies all creativity.ABOUT ADAM BARRALETAdam Barralet has been observing and living in tune with nature since childhood. Dear Friends, I took so many notes during this conversation! In this illuminating episode of Gateways to Awakening, host I speak with Candice Covington, author of Essential Oils in Spiritual Practice and Vibrational Nutrition and her latest book, Floral Absolutes: Aromatic Healing for the Physical, Emotional, and Energy Body, about the living intelligence of the plant world — and how food, scent, and essence each carry unique energetic signatures that can shape our consciousness.Drawing from her background in Ayurveda, aromatherapy, and energy medicine, Candice reveals how every plant, from okra to rose, raspberry to pomegranate, holds a vibrational pattern that mirrors aspects of the human soul. She explains how subtle energies from plants can help us restore emotional balance, clear karmic imprints, protect our energetic boundaries, and even catalyze creativity and heart awakening. Whether you're new to the language of subtle energy or already working with essential oils and vibrational healing, this conversation will remind you that plants are living blueprints of the divine reflections of our own multidimensional intelligence. We talk about the following and more:1) The connection between vibrational nutrition, flower and food energetics, and archetypal forces in nature — showing how plants are not passive resources, but conscious allies in our evolution. 2) Why certain foods call to you at specific moments, how to select oils for emotional healing and protection, and how the act of eating, anointing, or smelling becomes a sacred dialogue with life itself.3) Tangible guidance for empaths, creatives, and anyone seeking to reclaim their vitality and inner sovereignty through plant consciousness. If this episode spoke to you: please share it, tag us @Gateways_To_Awakening, and leave a review on Apple Podcasts — it helps these conversations reach more people. The Blessed Beauty Podcast - Simple Beauty Advice for Busy Catholic Women
In this video, as a 20+ year esthetician, I explain the potential risks of Meghan's DIY Bath Salt Soak recipe from Episode #1 of her "With Love Meghan" series (Season 1) and why you should NOT try her method for yourself WITHOUT knowledge of essential oils and their potential risks! There MAY be the potential for skin irritations if you use an essential oil ON ITS OWN without using "carrier oils" - and I explain this in detail in the video. In episode 1 of her series, Meghan makes a DIY at home bath salt soak recipe, but I realized that there is potential for someone to get confused with the ingredients she uses. Essential oils are volatile plant compounds that may have the potential to irritate people's skin, especially those who are particularly sensitive! In Ep. 1 of With Love, Meghan, where we see her make up her bath salt recipe, Meghan MAY have used an essential oil MIXED with a carrier oil, BUT she does NOT clarify this- so I am here to help you minimize the potential risks of making this recipe -advising you on what to do and what NOT to do if you attempt to try this at home. EDIT - Someone mentioned in my YT comments that she also used Pink Himalayan Salt in her mixture- that is totally FINE to use if you want to! Although note - that Himalayan pink salt does NOT dissolve into water as readily as Epsom salt (due to its chemical composition) so there is a potential that Himalayan pink salt MAY leave someone with dry to very dry to sensitive skin drier after soaking in it. Personally- I wouldn't bother with the pink salt she uses- save that for other things like cooking if you like that. ALSO- for those questioning if salt itself is water based - YES - H2O is a major component of salt - and Epsom Salt contains a little over 50% water in its composition. Here's a much SAFER RECIPE - 1- 2 cups Epsom Salt (measured) Mix very thoroughly into the salt - 1-2 drops of your favorite Essential oil WITH 8-10 drops of a good carrier oil (like jojoba, argan, almond oil, etc.) Put a lid on the mixture and use within 1-3 days max) NOTE - IF you like and can tolerate a stronger scent and want to use more Essential oil, then remember - for every 1-2 drops of essential oil you add, you MUST remember to add 8-10 more drops of carrier oil as well. I wouldn't recommend using more than 6-8 drops of your ESSENTIAL OIL in total - That way you avoid potential future irritations. We were worried we might not have anything left to talk about on the show (spoiler alert, we were wrong). We discuss the good and bad uses of AI, why it can be a better doctor than a human, why it's more dangerous than plastic, and why Sarah can't quit ChatGPT. Sarah explains why misinformation is causing more marriages than anything else. We share what our "favorite" conspiracy theories are, and why we sort of believe them. Sarah almost got struck by lightning, and why she wants people to be more careful during storms. We hear why there might be a cure for the vision issues of growing old, and we find out that essential oils actually are...essential.Brain Candy Podcast Website - https://thebraincandypodcast.com/Brain Candy Podcast Book Recommendations - https://thebraincandypodcast.com/books/Brain Candy Podcast Merchandise - https://thebraincandypodcast.com/candy-store/Brain Candy Podcast Candy Club - https://thebraincandypodcast.com/product/candy-club/Brain Candy Podcast Sponsor Codes - https://thebraincandypodcast.com/support-us/Brain Candy Podcast Social Media & Platforms:Brain Candy Podcast LIVE Interactive Trivia Nights - https://www.youtube.com/@BrainCandyPodcast/streamsBrain Candy Podcast Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/braincandypodcastHost Susie Meister Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/susiemeisterHost Sarah Rice Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/imsarahriceBrain Candy Podcast on X: https://www.x.com/braincandypodBrain Candy Podcast Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/braincandy (JOIN FREE - TONS OF REALITY TV CONTENT)Brain Candy Podcast Sponsors, partnerships, & Products that we love:Cancel your unwanted subscriptions and reach your financial goals faster at https://rocketmoney.com/braincandy today.Download Hily from the App Store or Google Play, or check out https://hily.comSee Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
Why does the simple act of smelling essential oils directly regulate the nervous system during trauma and grief? How can practitioners support clients who struggle with feeling their bodies? What if smell is the most underutilized tool for creating safety and embodiment? Seven years ago, Jodi Cohen's 12-year-old son died suddenly in a car accident. Her 14-year-old daughter, about to start high school, needed her mother to stay present through the unimaginable. This episode shares Jodi's journey of daily choosing what helps and what hurts, discovering that smell became her most accessible pathway to nervous system regulation when everything else felt too overwhelming. You'll learn the science of why our sense of smell is our most direct connection to the limbic system, how rose essential oil counteracts the fear response in the brain, and why smell allows us to titrate our emotional experience in micro-moments rather than getting flooded. This episode bridges functional medicine and somatic trauma healing for both practitioners and individuals navigating grief, chronic pain, or trauma recovery. Whether you're supporting clients through loss or learning to regulate your own nervous system, you'll discover how to use essential oils as deliberate cues of safety that shift your state without anyone noticing. In this episode you'll learn: [00:01:28] Jodi's Story of Loss: How her son's death became a daily practice of choosing what helps and what hurts while parenting through grief [00:03:08] Why Smell is Critical to Survival: The science of olfactory receptors and how rose essential oil counteracts the brain's fear response [00:05:27] Stories Follow State: Why shifting your nervous system state automatically changes your thoughts without working on the stories [00:07:04] Parasympathetic Blend Behind the Ear: How applying essential oils on the vagus nerve regulates sympathetic dominance during overwhelming moments [00:09:11] Flooding Shuts Down Problem-Solving: Why you must regulate your nervous system before you can think clearly or make decisions [00:12:36] When Bedtime Brings Up Everything: How stillness at night surfaces all the grief and feelings we've avoided all day [00:14:24] Creating Neutral Space for Dorsal Vagal: Recognizing shutdown and using oils to observe feelings without reliving trauma [00:21:05] Titrating with Smell: Using essential oils for micro-moments of feeling followed by safe action to build capacity without flooding [00:24:37] Fascia, Lymph, and Nervous System Integration: Why addressing all three systems together creates coherence and lasting regulation [00:27:16] Where to Apply Essential Oils: Finding the divot behind the ear, belly button, and feet for maximum nervous system regulation Main Takeaways: Smell is Our Most Powerful Survival Sense: Of the five senses, smell connects most directly to the limbic system because it alerts us to food, water, predator odor, and fire—making it the most critical sense for survival and the most underutilized tool for nervous system regulation. Rose Essential Oil Counteracts Fear Biology: Research on olfactory receptors shows that rose essential oil directly counteracts the fear response triggered by predator odor in the brain, making it a powerful tool for trauma healing and embodiment. Your Stories Follow Your State: Thoughts and narratives automatically shift with your nervous system state—when you're in calm aliveness you notice beauty, in stress you spiral with worry, in shutdown everything feels hopeless. Shifting state is often easier than changing thoughts. Smell Creates Space Between Stimulus and Response: Essential oils provide the easiest accessible tool to create that critical pause between what happens and how we react, allowing us to move from automatic survival responses to conscious choice. Titration Makes Healing Sustainable: Using smell to titrate emotional experience—feeling for 30 seconds, then shifting attention—builds capacity to stay present with difficult feelings without getting flooded or retraumatized. Go Slowly When Activating Parasympathetic: People who've been sympathetic dominant for years will start detoxifying when they finally feel safe. Start with just smelling oils before topical application to prevent overwhelming the lymphatic system. Fascia, Lymph, and Nervous System Work Together: These three systems are woven together like a marriage—the vagus nerve is the masculine aspect, fascia is the feminine, and when both are in harmony the body moves into coherence. Grief Requires Daily Practice: Healing from trauma and loss isn't about being fixed or finding one solution—it's making a daily choice to lean into tools that work, even when you don't feel like it. Coherence Creates Lasting Change: When you align the nervous system, fascial network, lymphatic system, heart coherence, and limbic system together, you create deadbolts on the door of safety rather than just one lock. Notable Quotes: "When you're flooded, it turns off your access to your prefrontal cortex, which is kind of your problem solving skill. And so you need to regulate your nervous system so that you can problem solve." "It's not like I am fixed or I found this thing. It's that every day I live with chronic pain, I live with hard things, and every day I make a choice to deal with it." "The nervous system, lymphatic system and the fascial network are all woven together. The fascia is kind of the feminine aspect of the nervous system and the vagus nerve is the masculine, and I think they're married and they work together." Episode Takeaway: The healing journey from grief and trauma don't require you to be fixed—they require daily practice of choosing tools that work even when you don't feel like using them. Jodi's journey through the loss of her 12-year-old son reveals why smell became her most accessible pathway to nervous system regulation: essential oils create that critical space between stimulus and response because olfactory receptors connect directly to the limbic system, allowing us to titrate emotional experience in micro-moments, shift our state (which automatically shifts our stories), and regulate before our prefrontal cortex shuts down from flooding. Essential oils are concentrated plant extracts obtained through distillation and pressing. This process captures the aromatic compounds responsible for the oils' fragrance and therapeutic effects The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) designates some oils as Generally Recognized as Safe (GRAS), meaning food-grade oils are safe to ingest in tiny amounts GRAS essential oils like peppermint, lemon, ginger, cinnamon, and basil can be used to flavor foods and beverages. This reflects their culinary value when used sparingly Other essential oils, such as lavender, eucalyptus, tea tree, rosemary, chamomile, wintergreen, and camphor, are best suited for aromatic or topical use Whether in food, through scent, or applied to the skin, essential oils support wellness when used with care and intention
