On August 22, 1990, Cheryl Henry and Andy Atkinson left a Houston nightclub and vanished. Their white car was later found abandoned at the end of a dark dead end street known locally as Lovers Lane. Inside the vehicle were broken glass, blood, and Cheryl's belongings, but no sign of the couple.Hours later, police made a horrifying discovery in a nearby wooded field. Cheryl had been sexually assaulted, bound, and murdered. Andy was found a short distance away, tied to a tree and killed. Investigators believe Cheryl was murdered first, forcing Andy to hear what was happening before his own death.The crime scene contained disturbing and unexplained details. Golf balls and a club taken from Andy's trunk were placed near Cheryl's body. A twenty dollar bill lay nearby. Balloons were found hanging from tree branches. Despite FBI profiling, early DNA testing, and years of investigation, no suspect was identified.Years later, DNA linked the Lovers Lane murders to a sexual assault that occurred two months earlier in Houston. The surviving victim described an attacker whose behavior suggested someone familiar with security or military style discipline. A confirmed DNA profile exists, but no arrest has ever been made.More than three decades later, the murders of Cheryl Henry and Andy Atkinson remain unsolved, with hope resting on new forensic advances that could finally reveal the person responsible.

Berry Bryant was just eighteen years old and had only been in college for five weeks when she vanished. First published in The Sphere on 20 November 1935, “The Man Who Came Back” was collected in The Floating Café and Other Stories (Jarrolds, 1936). It has since reappeared in several modern anthologies of seasonal supernatural tales, including the British Library's Sunless Solstice: Strange Christmas Tales for the Longest Nights (2021). Margery Harriet Lawrence (1889–1969) was an English writer who moved with ease between ghost stories, occult fiction, romance, and crime, and whose work was widely read in the inter-war decades. She is now best remembered for her Club of the Round Table tales and for Dr Miles Pennoyer, her “psychic doctor” occult detective, whose cases draw heavily on the spiritualist beliefs she embraced in later life. Four days later, authorities issued ten felony warrants — five counts of possession of child sexual abuse material, five counts of using a computer to solicit a minor. Additional charges are pending. Travis Turner, the beloved head coach of the undefeated Union High School Bears, is now a fugitive. The U.S. Marshals and FBI have joined the manhunt. There's a $5,000 reward. And every court document in the case has been sealed. But here's where it gets darker. Turner isn't the first coach at Union High to face charges like this. In 2023, another teacher and coach at the same school pleaded guilty to two felony counts of indecent liberties with a child. Same school. Same time period. Same defense attorney now representing Turner's family. Meanwhile, Turner's team kept playing — and kept winning. They made it all the way to the state semifinals before losing by a single point.
