Today's guest on The Shane Sams Show is Robbie Baxter, author of The Membership Economy–a book which predicted the rise of subscription services like Netflix and was literally our membership bible for growing our first membership site into a million dollar membership! Jocelyn and I went to a conference in the Philippines, hosted by Chris Ducker, called Tropical Think Tank. We went just to get around other entrepreneurs and see what they were doing. We were sitting at a table with James Schramko and I started telling him about what were selling, that it was going well, but that it was also very high-energy. He flat out told us it was a membership, all we needed to do was sell it once and have people pay you forever. He told us to read The Membership Economy by Robbie Kellman Baxter on our way home. So, of course, I read the whole thing on our way back to the Philippines. And, read it all in one sitting. I knew when we closed the book that we had to do what this book said, as soon as possible. And, then in June of 2015, as soon as we got home, we implemented the membership model into each and every one of our four businesses. Within 30 days of opening our membership, we had over 1,000 members, paying an average of $49 to $99 a month, and it's been that way ever since. Now, we've helped over 3,000 people do the same thing in the last 5 years.  All of that literally came from us reading The Membership Economy by Robbie Kellman Baxter. In today's episode we dive deep into when and where you should use free trials, pricing your membership, and we discuss her new book, The Forever Transaction. We are going to talk about all things memberships with the person who literally wrote the book on the membership model. In today's episode you'll learn: What the Membership Economy is all about The difference in headline benefits and engagement benefits Why the free trial can help or hurt you Why friction is key to attracting quality members The Forever Transaction How to evolve your offerings How to engage and retain your members If you need help starting, building, and growing an online business, check out all of the support and resources for entrepreneurs at https://www.ShaneSams.com and https://www.FlippedLifestyle.com!  Follow Shane on twitter @shane_sams.

You’ve heard it before. In fact, you’ve probably said it time and time again to your clients: Your network is your net worth. As coaches, we understand the value of growing our network. After all, building a network is a powerful strategy for growing your business. But, often, in the hustle and bustle of daily life and building our empires, it can be pretty easy to drop the ball on following up with the people in our network. So, how do you build and maintain strong relationships with those in your personal and professional network? How can networking help you move your business forward? And how do you create those deep connections with influencers in your industry that will not only put you on the right path toward achieving your goals but also highly recommend you to others? It’s all about consistently showing up - and following up. Today, I discuss the concept of the Network of 90 and how the power of networking has impacted my career in the coaching industry. I discuss why networking is the single most important long-term business growth strategy for coaches and how it can transform the way you build your coaching empire. I explain how building meaningful relationships with influential people like Michael Port, Naomi Dunford, and Clay Collins have paved my path toward success. What You'll Learn: What the Membership Economy is all about The difference in headline benefits and engagement benefits “The Acquisition Schute” Why the free trial can help or hurt you Why friction is key to attracting quality members The Forever Transaction How to evolve your offerings The Membership Economy How to engage and retain your members Show Notes Back in 2012, my wife Jocelyn and I started our journey to entrepreneurship. We had some really bad stuff happen to us at work and we decided to start our own online business. We started out with digital courses, PDFs, all kinds of stuff to download with a one time purchase. A couple years later we noticed some issues with stability. We putting a ton of work in, had to start back at zero every single month. We didn't really know what we were doing. We went to a conference in the Philippines, hosted by Chris Ducker, called Tropical Think Tank. We went just to get around other entrepreneurs and see what they were doing. The Membership Economy Robbie's book, The Membership Economy came out in 2015, which meant most of the writing was done in 2014. However, she began making notes for the book a decade before, back in 2004. Robbie had been working with Netflix back in 2002 and 2003, where she fell in love with their business model. She was taking notes like: “Should every business have a free trial?” “Should every business 100% membership or 100% not? She would meditate on those questions.  At the same time, Silicon Valley was falling in love with Netflix's business model too. She began getting calls from companies wanting Robbie's help in setting up a similar business model, so she began helping them too. She realized there were things that were different about each of the organizations, but several principles are the same. For the next 10 years she worked with these businesses, using these principles. In that time, she was trying to put together a framework. Basically, she would try and explain to people that there was a way to get recurring revenue, subscriptions, memberships, digital community, that works in every business and industry, no matter what the size. It was hard to explain it, so she wrote it all down in her book. Essentially, she says her book became her 1 lb. business card. The book had an immense success. Robbie truly feels that when it is done in the right way,

Tips on how to create authentic engagement with branded video content with Gideon Shalwick The key when it comes to video content is that a lot of people miss is the match that you have between who you're talking to and the message that you have, so your message and your market match. How do I come up with the topics? One easy shortcut is to ask yourself, what are all the problems that your target audience are experiencing? Problems, frustrations, needs, desires, all those sorts of things. I remember how excited I felt because I felt for the first time you didn't have to be like a movie star or a celebrity or get into a television show to be able to have widespread sort of recognition and sort of influence for your brand. But really the best camera you have always is the one that you have with you, right? What's the biggest pain point? Video editing. That's an easy fix. Use QuickTime it's a free piece of software and it allows you just trim the front and back out and it takes a few seconds. It's instant. It's really easy and quick to do you don't even need fancy software. But it doesn't matter what you look like. Really what it matters is what you can do for other people and how you can serve them through your message and what you can teach them and help them with. Feel the fear and do it anyway. They just have a really good SEO strategy where they optimize for the right keywords and then they get all the longterm traffic. And they're just crushing it at the moment. _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ HOW TO CREATE AUTHENTIC ENGAGEMENT WITH BRANDED VIDEO CONTENT [just click to tweet] HOW TO CREATE AUTHENTIC ENGAGEMENT WITH BRANDED VIDEO CONTENT The key is the match between who you're talking to and your message, so your message and your market match. _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ Doug: Well welcome back listeners to another episode of Real Marketing, Real Fast. This week on the podcast I had the pleasure of speaking with Mike Morrison about content repurposing for membership sites.  Mike is co-founder of The Membership Guys and Member Site Academy, where he helps guide the growth of high performing memberships, e-learning businesses, and online communities. He's the host of a popular podcast, author of two best-selling books and has been featured on the likes of Social Media Examiner, Huffington Post, Foundr and Net Magazine. Mike can regularly be found on stages around the world at events including Social Media Marketing World, Tropical Think Tank and Podcast Movement. Mike recently rocked the stage at the Youpreneur Summit in London in November 2017. I know one thing that people really worry about when they're considered offering a paid membership is the amount of content that they will need to create. So, since I always have my repurposing hat on, and I wanted to bring Mike onto the podcast to talk about the content repurposing opportunities that you can implement with a membership site. One of the best parts about live events is meeting new people and establishing connections with them, even after the event has wrapped up! I had the pleasure of meeting the founders behind Sistermixin at my Tropical Think Tank event held earlier this year and it's been amazing watching them grow their brand over the past few months. In this episode, Joanne Ling and Tracey Fry from Sistermixin join me as they share their experiences from Tropical Think Tank and how they've grown their business since then. Tune in as we chat about pricing strategies, how taking the leap and investing in their own warehouse helped boost their business and give them credibility plus what their rebranding plans are for the new year. We also go into their digital marketing strategy, how they hold their live events with them living in separate states and so much more. It was great fun having Jo and Tracey on the show, so sit back, relax and enjoy! Essential Learning Points From This Episode: Tracey, Jo and Chris discuss the impact of focusing on one project at a time. Why Tracey and Jo unfollowed their favorite influencers and how it helped. When they decided to stop working in their business and start working on it. How much their business has grown since taking their business "out of their home". Much, much more! My wife and I had the chance to spend time with Jeff at Tropical Think Tank in early 2017 and we had some fantastic conversations surrounding artistry, writing, business, family, and more. While I've hung out with Jeff at other events (including Chris Guillebeau's World Domination Summit), getting to know him better in Cebu was one of the highlights of my time there. Some of the things we discussed in this episode include the idea of how he is blue to see prolific and delivers quality at the same time, why stealing can be something an artist can do, why collaboration can be a good thing – or even the best thing – for the thriving artist, what role mindset and money have in the life of an artist, and more. How Chris decided on making his name his own brand, and his mantra when it comes to marketing your brand (8:48). We also discussed how productivity isn't always about speed, an anecdote on what made him decide to slow down, start delegating and making an intention to flip the switch, get away from work and just have fun (11:43). We talked about deleting certain tasks and projects that are no longer serving him, and why saying no to certain things, opportunities and engagements free him up to intentionally do things that he really wants to do (16:07). Chris dives into how to be everywhere, the behind-the-scenes process to do this, and choosing which platforms - based on your brand and personality to create a regular presence in (19:02). Brian Clark is a recovering lawyer, serial entrepreneur and founder of Copy Blogger, RainMaker Platform, and several other successful companies. I met him in Cebu during Tropical Think Tank (notice a theme?), and I was able to ask him how he started out before there was crowdfunding and how he grew Copy Blogger to 8-figures with zero paid ads.   In this interview, Brian and I discuss the importance of validating a product before launching, and why having an audience is so critical, not just from a backer perspective, but for live feedback.   In this episode you will learn:   How to have these conversations with your customer: “Will it sell?” or “Will people buy it?’, as well as “Do people want it?” Always, “audience first”; find out what they want, and how to sell it to them. It’s your job to find out what people want to buy. How to ask someone to give you feedback on your idea. People love to complain: a complaint is a product waiting to be made, or it is an improvement on an existing product that is not living up to customer expectations. Validation has nothing to do with your ego.   Resources mentioned:   copyblogger.com my.copyblogger.com rainmaker.fm rainmakerplatform.com   Click to Tweet   “Luck is not a strategy.” “Content marketing is how we do things. My guest, Theresa Vigarino is a transformational certified life coach, a spiritual teacher, author and professional speaker. Theresa’s work includes changing thought patterns through neuroscience. She is truly the epitome of joy, as you can hear by our conversation today. Her coaching programs are designed to assist women who are ready to live life to the fullest. She says “Just because life has been a certain way in the past doesn’t mean it has to be that way in the future.” When I met Theresa at Tropical Think Tank in the Philippines, 2016, I knew we were kindred spirits right from the start. We were like magnets drawn to each other. I meet the most amazing people at these events.   Repeating the Same Disappointing Cycles Our subconscious mind is powerful. It is responsible for 80% of our daily decisions and behaviors. She says that if you really want to make a long lasting change or to transform a behavior you must hit it from every direction. The brain is diligent about keeping us stuck in patterns because old patterns are considered safe to this part of the brain. People do things over and over again because we have loops in our unconscious minds. Familiarity is safe. Our mind can trick us but its sole purpose is to keep us safe. Theresa describes it as our subconscious mind being an outdated computer system and sometimes needing an upgrade. When we transform, we break through the firewall and update our core system. Failed past relationships are not your conscious mind’s fault. During the initial stages of dating, our subconscious minds are looking for reference points in our past experiences. It’s rummaging through old files and movies and expects this situation to be like the last. It’s a massive projection. Sometimes we manifest our past again because we know we can handle that type of situation. We did it once, we can do it again. And then sometimes, we sabotage a relationship because we recognize certain triggers and because we don’t want to live through something again.   How Can Women Grow Into Their Spirituality? Women should spend some time alone because women are prone to losing their identities in relationships. There is a difference in younger generations. They are a bit savvier but there is still a noticeable change during the start of relationships. It may be a natural way of being, but we are able to adjust. We should trust our internal compass, our guidance system that says “Hey wait a minute my spirituality is important to me and I’m not going to give it up for anybody”. It’s important for us to remember we are examples to our family members, to people we meet, and to everyone around us. Spirituality often means different things to different people. Good places to start your spiritual journey are by reading A Return to Love by Marianne Williamson and A Course in Miracles by Dr. Helen Schucman. If our souls are in alignment, we are better prepared for entering relationships.    How do we overcome our past beliefs which no longer serve us? Trust issues can be overcome but it’s a real challenge to quiet the voice of fear. We need to understand there is a battle going on between our intuition and our mind patterns. When past triggers are pounding our conscious minds with thoughts and ideas which make us feel insecure, we have to choose new beliefs. There are exercises which deliberately create new brain patterns. You need to establish new patterns because if not you will revert back. Step out of the emotional response and observe your thoughts. Both men and women go through the same experience of our conscious mind, relying on the filing system which is our subconscious mind to tell us how to act or respond. There are techniques which allow us to access our filing system. We can change, distort, add new and even delete these files. If you are an imaginative person you can create new files. If you do it in HD, you can implant memories in your brain and the brain cannot tell the difference.   Communication is the Key to Everything There is something about loving another. Sharing love with another human being is a profound experience. We humans are vessels of love for the divine. The best gauge for your own development is in relation to someone else. Relationships cause us to grow. Acknowledging our vulnerability, being open and practicing trust allow our relationships to grow deeper. A great relationship resource is the 5 Love Languages by Gary Chapman. It’s about open loving communication.   But What About When a Storm Hits? Some of us, through no fault of our own, grow up in violence along with verbal and physical abuse. Unless we make a shift, those traumatic experiences will enter our adult lives and possibly the lives of our children. In Theresa’s case, she attracted abuse to her, but her faith in God and her dedication to working through the situation got her to where she is today.  She reminds us that the great sages of the world celebrate the hard times because it is through the storms that we find understanding.   You are Not the Only One and You Are Not Crazy Either If you know of someone who needs to hear this podcast please share it. A Special Passage “To discover who she is, a woman must descend into her own depths. She must leave the safe role of remaining a faithful daughter of the collectives around her and descend to her individual feeling values. It will be her task to experience her pain. The pain of her own unique feeling values calling to her, pressing to emerge. To discover who she is, a woman must trust the places of darkness where she can meet her own deepest nature and give it voice. Weaving threads of her life into a fabric to be named and given. Sharing it with the women around her as she comes to a true and certain sense of herself.” - from Circle of Stones: Woman’s Journey to Herself by Judith Duerk   About Cas My guest today, Cas McCullough is an author, a small business owner twice over, a podcaster, a mother thrice over and is a person with undiagnosed Asperger’s. I met Caz in the Philippines at Chris Ducker’s Tropical Think Tank. Cas shares that her personal growth has been amazing this year and offers up this advice, saying “We are all human beings and we all struggle. Don’t get in your own way.”   But It Wasn’t the End of the World As part of Cas’s religious upbringing, she attended a religious college. She accompanied other intensely creative students and a professor on an archeological dig in Israel. Everything was going well. She met distant cousins and traveled around but then she had an altercation with another female student. She was hotheaded and walked off without anyone knowing where she was going. When she returned to the bus, the Professor attacked her with words as he reacted to the situation in an unprofessional and downright rude manner. He wanted to send her home. This situation tugged at Cas for years as his destructive, hurtful response to her seemingly innocent trek played over in her mind. Her entire approach to people changed after that day.   Anxiety, There’s an App for That Ok, so it’s cliché but women DO get a little wacky when they exhibit their God given right to menses. Beyond that, there is this pesky little thing called anxiety which makes us worry about screwing up or saying the wrong things, even if it is all in our heads.  A Kahuna massage can be magic, no matter who administers the medicine. It allows you to get out of your brain much like doing the dishes does. Repetitive actions reduce anxiety levels and release oxytocin a hormone that can be shared by others around you once it is released into the atmosphere. As women, we tend to be uncomfortable when we are observed, exposed or placed in a vulnerable situation. Cas recognizes this from her work as a supporter of women who are in labor. Women who are dealing with an exorbitant amount of pain don’t need to be disturbed, yet doctors walk in and out of patient rooms unannounced when what the expectant mothers really need is someone to be quiet and hold their hand. We are so out of tune with our primal brains we forget to take a step back and consider what is really happening here.   Cas’s Brilliant Un-Career Cas has an abundance of resources aimed at making you as brilliant as you can be. Her content marketing website, CasMcCullough.com, helps connect you to your audience through powerful content. Her Your Brilliant Un-Career site and podcast offers up insightful blog posts and the revealing 31 days to Biztopia Challenge where she focuses on small, meaningful changes you can make each day, for 31 days. We routinely practice a form of faith, seeing clearly and moving toward a creative goal that shimmers in the distance – often visible to us, but invisible to those around us. Difficult as it is to remember, it is our work that creates the market, not the market that creates our work. Art is an act of faith, and we practice practicing it. Sometimes we are called on pilgrimages on its behalf and like many pilgrims, we doubt the call even as we answer it but answer it we do. - From the 10th Anniversary Edition of The Artist’s Way by Julia Cameron    Finding Enlightenment from a Bad Experience Nicole had the unfortunate experience of having her car windows busted out by vandals while she was in San Francisco. She had to drive on the expressway to her art therapy classes for students with autism and Alzheimer’s. As the wind ripped through the car, she found herself angry and disappointed with humanity. Then as the sun was setting during golden hour, she noticed the broken glass sparkling in the back seat of her car. She felt driven to make the glass whole again so she created art with it, spirit art.      Compassion is Not Always There When You Need It Nicole met Mark, the Musician, in Miami. He plugged her in and sparked her creativity. She joined him in Los Angeles and started sharing his fast-paced life. Nicole loved the vibe in LA, she felt valued for her artistry and innovation. They spent four creatively productive years together. Then in an instant, Mark passed away. He was only 39 years old. Nicole felt anguish, guilt, depression and anger before going through the entire cycle of grief as her life suddenly changed. She felt shunned by Mark’s family and mutual friends started falling away. She believes that people fall away because they don’t know what to do and when they see you, you remind them of what they have lost. When his family started coming to the house to collect Mark’s things, Nicole experienced the ugly side of loss. Everything she did became a sad event. Then she met Terri. Terri had recently lost her boyfriend and she was experiencing her own grief. Nicole and Terri validated each other’s pain and eventually became soul sisters.      The Epic Wellness Academy In addition to Nicole’s fabulous website, Nicole Keating Art and her The Art of Epic Wellness Podcast, Nicole is designing The Epic Wellness Academy, which is for entrepreneurs who want to create sustainable business habits and rituals along with a vibrant life. The Epic Wellness Academy includes rich experiences which are enhanced with group coaching and facilitated learning. I just spent 10 days at Tropical Think Tank in Cebu, Philippines. It was an awesome event hosted by Chris Ducker. If you love: Great mastermindsGreat SpeakersMeeting a lot of new friendsGetting great information on how to run your business betterTTT is the place for you. At TTT Hal Elrod, The Miracle Morning author, talked about his Rock Bottoms and how they changed/affected his life. This really got me thinking about some of my rock bottoms. But I don't consider them that…I've always looked at them as events in my life. As Hal spoke, the more I thought about it, I could clearly draw a coloration to who I am now to these events. Everyone has rock bottoms and they shape our life. The good news is that we get to shape what they mean in our life. I was really lucky. Even though I was young, myself and my friends took this rock bottom and turned it into a positive. In this show, you'll hear my story and how my rock bottom allowed me to learn: - Many of my friends are in public service (Police, fire, teachers, etc.). I can only suspect that the events of this night helped shaped their career choices.- I am very much a relationship person and down deep inside an emotional dude. I really miss friends I haven't seen for some time and when I leave an event I get a little sad.- I learned that God didn't pick me, that I'm here for a purpose, and the older/wiser I get the more I want to drive to that purpose…maybe that's why you're listening to this podcast. I believe that is what Focus 53 is all about for me.- I've learned that Dan's parents really do love his friends, even after all these years, they are proud of us and I suspect feel some of Dan's love/life through seeing us be successful. The modern miracle of Facebook helps with that.- Life if fragile… you just never know. I'm gaining more clarity on that concept and following my calling, heart and dreams.- The bond I have with my friends from this time in my life will never be broken, they know I'd do anything for them and I know they'd do anything for me. It's a special groupGo with your gut. My gut told me to run that night vs. fighting. I'm not sure why and believe me, - I've analyzed it more times than I care to admit. How does all this tie back to business? For me, it's really easy. Knowing life is short, that relationships mean the world to me, that I want my friends to be proud of me, that I want to be able to help them in business, life, etc….it boils down to choosing HOW we spend our time and with WHO. The more I feel I can control that, the better I feel. This happened about 20 years ago and it's still very much an emotional topic. This story certainly isn't meant to attract sympathy, it's meant to illustrate the POSITIVE power of your rock bottom(s). yeah, I said POSITIVE POWER. We get to determine, in life, in business, with our career choices, how we react to events in our life. We can't control the events, but we can control our mind and choices. Learn from the not so awesome events in your life, grow from them and use them as fuel to propel you to the next level. Us the power of the event to harness positive change in your life. Looking back…that's what I did even though I didn't fully recognize it until TTT.

Today we have Jon Nastor of Hack the Entrepreneur on the podcast! To say I was excited to talk with Jon would be an understatement... and I just got more excited as the conversation continued. It's refreshing for me to find like-minded individuals doing cool things online that don't believe you have to sacrifice everything else in your life to make things happen. When Jon was a teenager, way before he launched Hack the Entrepreneur, he spent a lot of time playing punk rock music. It was during this time he realized how much he loved “DIY” in the sense that if he wanted something, like making music, playing a show, etc. he had to do it himself to make it happen. He carried this with him into his 20's and then in 2011 he discovered he could make a business on the internet. One of the biggest things he's created is Velocity Page, a premium WordPress plug in. He created it with Bill, his brother in law, and Mark Jaquith. Velocity Page is a way to create WordPress pages without the “techy” mumbo jumbo. It takes you out of the admin panel so you can live edit on your page so what you see it what you get. Jon created this tool because a few years ago he needed something like this but he couldn't find it so he went to Mark with this idea and they created it. In 2014 he went to Chris Ducker's conference called Tropical Think Tank where there were a lot of serious podcasters (Chris runs Tropical Think Tank once a year and it's in the Philippines... and event I plan on attending at some point!). He realized he had both the time and the resources to start his own podcast. Even though he had little to no experience doing podcasts and interviewing people, he knew he just had to start somewhere. So that summer he made a list  of about 30 people that he wanted to interview and he thought he would interview them over the course of a few months and then be done. To his surprise, about 2 months later it got bigger than he expected so he ramped up production to 3 podcasts a week. The same sort of thing happened to me when I started my podcast... not that I jumped into multiple episodes per week (kudos to you Jon... I love it!), but my podcast definitely shifted everything in my business. For Jon he saw that there wasn't really anything in the podcast space that he really like/captured his interest. So he decided to create it, just like one would create a product because they don't see what they want out there already. He experienced the same sort of thing with Hack the Entrepreneur. With a little bit of help from a friend, Jon took the idea and ran with it. After the success of the show and his 5 categories of hacks (Being Wrong, Fears, Habits, Mindset and Ideas), he brought the best of all of this into a book! (Hardly a guy to rest on his laurels, right?). I highly recommend getting the book (in addition to the podcast). Questions I Asked: How did Jon create Velocity Page? What was it like for Jon to reach out to Mark? How did Jon come up with Hack the Entrepreneur? What is his book about? How does Jon come up with each hack? Things You'll Learn: How to figure the right format of a podcast for you and your audience. Commonalities that Jon sees in a lot of entrepreneurs. The biggest thing you need to grow your business. Why “the hustle” isn't relevant anymore when it comes to making money. A few of Jon's favorite hacks from his book.   Where to connect with Jon Website | Podcast | Facebook | Twitter Links mentioned in this episode: Velocity Page Hack The Entrepreneur

There comes a time in the journey of many entrepreneurs when they are simply burned out, stressed out and exhausted. I’ve been there and so has our guest for today’s show. Dr. Mark Costes is an entrepreneur and dentist combined; by the age of 33 he had built 6 successful practices and was coaching other dentists to do the same. He was making seven figures but it came with a heavy pricetag; he was running himself into the ground and wasn’t spending time with his family. He knew things in his business had to change. So in the wee hours of the night he built a side gig. It took him a year but soon that side gig was generating six figures. On today’s show he shares with us the highs and lows of that journey, where he plans to go in the future and how you can build a six figure side gig too. MATTHEW: Great to be here, S&J. Thank you for having me. SHANE: Yeah, we are so glad you are here because we are clueless about some of these questions, especially the one we've got for you today. So Jocelyn, let's throw Matthew a question here. JOCELYN: Alright, this question is from Sam and Sam says, “There's so much information out there that I find it hard to differentiate myself. How do I make my blog stand out in the crowd and make it unique? I'm talking about a subject that is well-covered by many others. Why would anyone listen to me?” SHANE: This is a great question Matthew because, you know, we think about this all the time because really, when you think about it, every issue is pretty well covered on the internet. So how do you make yourself stand out in such a crowded world that we live in these days? MATTHEW: Sure, absolutely great question and the first thing that comes to mind is don't worry at all about the content. It's great that there's information out there, it's great that other people are talking about what you are talking about because if they weren't, there's probably a reason for that. So, if you find that you are the only person talking about something, unless it's brand new and very, very, very little – is brand spanking new, then that's validation. That's external validation. If other people are talking about vacuum repair, then that means that other people are listening to other people talk about vacuum repair. So that's great, good job, there's other information out there. Now, how do you differentiate yourself and how do you make your blog stand out? There's a couple of ways that I would go about doing this and a couple of ways that I would advise my clients that they could go about doing it. The first one is, you. Okay, so the information that you are presenting is standard, it exists elsewhere, but you are the only person who can deliver it the way that you can deliver it. Many of us, when we adopt a public persona, we water down the really interesting parts of our self. SHANE: Right. MATTHEW: We often say this in corporate emails, both from companies to their mailing lists, but also people when they are wearing their professional hats; here where I live in Malta in the Mediterranean,

Michaela went to the Philippines recently...yeah, I tuned out about then as well! Hang on a minute though. Apart from taking a well earned break, she went to hang out with some pretty serious entrepreneurs who were talking all things outsourcing, online marketing, content marketing and building a business that really does work 'without you'. Guys like Chris Ducker, James Schramko, John Lee Dumas and more all shared their insights and experience. Pretty sure a few cocktails were consumed as well... It was called Tropical Think Tank and apart from her incredible grand entrance (listen in to find out how she got the attention of the entire crowd!), Michaela brought back some really useful tips for you in your tradie business. Tips on how to get more done with your time, creating more gratitude in your life and the best way to deal with emails are just a few of the great tidbits Michaela managed to smuggle back into Australia in her boogie board bag. Oh hang on, different country... The post TBS059 Lessons Learned From Tropical Think Tank 2015 appeared first on Tradies Business Show.

In today's Q&A, we are helping Sarah feel comfortable trusting her virtual assistants with usernames and password for different accounts they'll need access to. Do you have a question you want answered on our podcast? We would love to help you! Click here to ask your question! [Tweet "You have to roll the dice a little bit if you are going to make it in online business."] Resources Mentioned in this Episode Tropical Think Tank Event Fiverr Elance Odesk LastPass Let's dive into this week's question! JOCELYN: Hey y'all! You're listening to a Q&A with S&J. Welcome to the Flipped Lifestyle podcast where life always comes before work. We're your hosts, Shane and Jocelyn Sams. Join us each week as we teach you how to flip your lifestyle upside-down by selling stuff online. Are you ready for something different? All right, let's get started. SHANE: What's going on guys, welcome back to today's Q&A with S&J. You probably noticed immediately that the audio was a little funky on this episode of the podcast and that is because we are using the internal microphone on my MacBook Pro. We are on the road, we are in a hotel room right now, we are traveling to the Philippines to see Chris Ducker and go to his Tropical Think Tank event. We did not bring our microphones. We do have digital recorders but we do not have that out right now and we had some extra time so we thought that we would go ahead and record a few Q&As to make sure we could keep rolling out the content while we are on the road. JOCELYN: We're actually in a hotel room and I'm sure our neighbors are not too thrilled about this podcast recording but – SHANE: It's 1:00 AM by the way where we are recording this. JOCELYN: Yeah, we're trying to flip our schedule little bit because we are going to the Philippines and it is a 12-hour time difference from us. So, we are staying up all night, or attempting to and recording some Q&A podcast for you guys. SHANE: I thought we can sleep on the airplane on the way there. So, let's jump into today's question; today's question comes in from Sarah and she writes, "I am an attorney working full-time in my own practice and trying to build up my website where I plan on selling digital products to other attorneys. I utilize sites like Fiverr and Elance.com to outsource certain tasks. But I'm a little leery of hiring someone from one of those sites to help me with my website issues. If I provide a freelancer with my username and passwords, so that they can do whatever they want with them, they will also have access to my financial information that I have stored on those accounts. So long story short, what do you do in situations like this? Do you have any recommendations for outsourcing these kinds of projects involving giving someone else either access to your private or financial information, or your username and passwords on WordPress?" JOCELYN: All right Sarah, this is a good question and one that has concerned me as well. But there are ways to give people your information without giving up all of your password information, or your financial information. The first thing you need to do when you are in online business is definitely separate your business and personal financial accounts. That way, in case something does happen, you don't have to worry about all of your personal money being wiped out. SHANE: And you can do this too by setting up just two separate bank accounts or two separate PayPal accounts. Anything like that but what you do is basically anything that anyone would have access to, don't ever keep a lot of money in that. We have accounts where we immediately have money moved every day whenever there's sales made. That way, if someone were to ever get a hold of that information, there's probably only a couple of thousand bucks or a few hundred dollars in that account anyway and everything else is moved by us to an account where they cannot access it so easily.

#26: The Power of Virtual Support and Outsourcing with Chris Ducker

On this episode of the Online Marketing Made Easy Podcast, I interviewed my good friend, Chris Ducker. This interview came at a perfect time, because the evening after completing the interview, I got on a plane to the Philippines to speak at Chris' event, Tropical Think Tank. This was an exciting trip for me because not only is this my first trip to the Philippines, I also had the opportunity to speak with some some really fantastic people, including Pat Flynn, John Dumas, Greg Hickman and Natalie Sisson, and of course Chris Ducker himself, so it was a lot of fun. On today’s show, we are talking about the power of virtual support and outsourcing. This is an important topic for me, because I recently learned a valuable lesson, something I did not believe for so long until I finally experienced it personally in my business. So many successful people I look up to have told me that it is possible to work less and make a bigger impact, which includes bigger profits. That was hard for me to believe because it went against everything I knew about hard work paying off. However, on episode 23, I talked about how I experienced this very thing in 2013. I tell you this because with the right support, you truly can do less and make more. That’s why I think the topic today is so valuable to anyone building a business online. I’ve actually had Chris on the show before and so today we are going to dive a bit deeper into this topic. For those of you who do not know Chris, Chris is a serial entrepreneur, virtual staffing expert, blogger, podcaster and author of the new book Virtual Freedom (which is a FANTASTIC book and one I highly recommend.) In this episode, right from the start, Chris gets personal about a recent experience he had with burnout - and how his burnout did not effect his business AT ALL. Also, Chris dives into the mindset and mechanics around expanding your team with virtual support. The mindset requires a different way of looking at your business and your role in your business, seeing the value of letting go of some of it, and leveraging it by entrusting certain aspects of it to someone else. The mechanics include specific strategies and tools you can use to maximize your outsourcing experience. In this episode, here’s what we’ll cover: Mindset and the mechanics of expanding your team The value of letting go and leveraging Chris' burnout, and what he did about it The importance of taking care of yourself and switching off regularly What entrepreneurs should do with the time they save by outsourcing How a virtual team kept Chris' business going in the midst of his burnout The importance of entrepreneurs going off the grid from time to time What super hero syndrome is, and how to overcome it The impact of ego on your business What will defeat the benefits of your outsourcing efforts How you can make more by working less How to counter the feeling that you can do things faster yourself than telling someone else to do it The biggest problem when training your virtual staff How to throw little curve balls to your VA, and why you should Why you need to take care of your team ahead of all else Whether you should outsource locally or overseas The 3 basic ways Chris communicates with his staff The point where a lot of businesses begin to fail and how to avoid it And so much more! When training your virtual staff, the biggest challenge you'll run into is yourself [Tweet This]
