In this episode, Paul talks to Tommy Harrison who is from Ohio and had a ten year career in professional baseball. The first thing they discussed is how Tommy is an Ohio State fan and how he lives in a “house divided” because he married a fan of their rival school. They talked about growing up in an area that Tommy described as the country, but they still lived in a neighborhood. It was a whole lot of sports for Tommy growing up as he played football and wrestled, but it was baseball that became his favorite. Tommy became a pitcher and they discussed the mental and mechanical parts of baseball especially for the position of pitcher. Tommy told Paul of the places he got to play, the players he played with and the people that he got to meet during his baseball journey and he said he would not change a thing. He then told Paul about his career as a teacher, coach and mentor to countless kids. They finished by talking about his golf game (he's really good) and his favorite baseball team being the Cincinnati Reds (even though he played for the Braves).

Avenue Red's 10-year celebrations ball keeps on rolling with a football match-length mix from Preston North End's numero uno fan, Tommy Harrison, who is one half of Quadrant Soundscape (as featured twice on the podcast series) and the awesome Dub Explorations show and long-running event of the same name. This time Tommy is performing under his Asphalt Layer alias, which he uses for his uber ninja production work and solo DJ'ing. Be sure to check his page out in the link below! This is an impeccably constructed set of cosmic, pulsating deep techno, tech house, dub techno and more that gives a solid reflection of the kinds of sounds you will hear when he plays alongside his cohort Wilson Logan as Quadrant Soundscape at the next Avenue Red event at OverDraught, Manchester on Saturday 11/11/2023. Get involved if you can make it or have the power to teleport yourself there, which when listening to this totally sci-fi mix, you might feel you just about can do! Press play, get spaced. "After a couple of solid Quadrant Soundscape mixes, I felt it was time for Asphalt Layer to grace the Avenue Red decks. I've known Alec for a good while now, and knowing him and his amazing mix series, its an honour and I know my records have found a very good home! For my mix, I went deep and groovy, lots of music I'm really digging currently and some I've been digging for a while. Peace!" Avenue Red's BIG 200 10x mix compendium takes further form with the addition of another set of sonic shapes and from the Manchester-based deepness merchants, Quadrant Soundscape AKA Tommy "Asphalt Layer" Harrison & Wilson Logan. These are also the guys who are behind the excellent mix show, Dub Explorations, whose events at Eastern Bloc Records have been involving Avenue Red's own Alec Pritchard on the regular lineups during the last 18 months. This is the duo's second contribution to the podcast with yet another stunning gourmet of tripped-out, dubbed-out weapons. "Thanks to Alec for the opportunity to be part of the 200th Avenue Red Podcast release. For this mix we wanted to showcase the deeper and moodier side of our record collection. It's October, 1942. WWII is raging in Asia and the Pacific. The U.S. Navy has more than recovered from Japan's attack at Pearl Harbor the year before and is doing real damage to the Japanese Fleet. In Hawaii, everyone remains under martial law, while influential Japanese-Hawaiian men are held in camps with a growing number of Japanese POWs. Jo McMenamy flies for the Office of Naval Intelligence out of Honolulu, and her special knowledge of the Pacific islands has been crucial. In China, Alice and Li-ang initiate a daring plan to unify their country once the Japanese have been driven out. Mike finds himself deeply involved when he's recruited to fly for the O.S.S., the U.S. Army's new spy agency, operating in China for the first time. Prince Nik Nikura is in war-torn Japan on the Southern island of Shikoku doing what he can for the people of his ancestral estate. After changing city twice in 2020 - from Newcastle to Belgrade, then Belgrade to Manchester - Avenue Red has now settled here permanently in the capital of Northern England. For the first time since doing so, we are happy to present a mix from this great city as we introduce Quadrant Soundscape, a dynamic duo of promotors, DJs, producers & podcasters, each also operating under other guises (Asphalt Layer/Scavenger). They also run the Dub Explorations series, which has been alive for exactly 5 years to date. This platform is aptly-titled and through it they have transmitted 71 episodes of mind-bendingly deep, dubby, intergalactic techno sounds alongside a few intriguing guests. As we enter March and the spring season, let's embrace the uplifting vibes, the green shoots, the longer and brighter days. Let's usher in this new era of newfound optimism and hope with this cool, calm, collected blend of eclectic, soul-warming electronic music by these 2 passionate Mancunian "deep heads"! "Firstly, thank you to Alec for the opportunity to become part of the Avenue Red family, joining the incredible artists already in the series is a real privilege. This mix has been in the works for almost a year now and has taken many different forms during that time. Originally a submission made a year ago could not be released due to a defect with the recording, but here is the fresh new stereo take! Undoubtedly this time has been tough for all of us, and so this mix is a refection and reaction to how we've been feeling. There are elements of happiness, sadness, madness and everything in-between, all tracks were carefully considered and are all there on merit, bringing together our love of all things deep, dubby, house-y. This mix is best enjoyed in the sunshine with a cold one. Peace, Quadrant Soundscape." For our ninth edition of the Equilibrisme Podcast Series, we proudly present you: Quadrant Soundscapes. Quadrant Soundscape are Tommy Harrison and Wilson Logan from Manchester. Together, they are the minds behind the Dub Explorations Radio Show, which has also branched out into live events with several very hot and loud parties at the famous Eastern Bloc Records. The Radio Show itself has well surpassed 60 shows, all 3 hours in length which is an insight into the dedication they have for hunting underground music to showcase and push forward - [www.soundcloud.com/quadrantsoundscape/sets/dub-explorations] Some of the shows have a live video feed, which can be found on their youtube channel - [www.youtube.com/channel/UCWUtvjg-c6fS7M0N_jtABrA] Over the last 4 years, the boys have featured on many podcasts across the globe, where their creative style of playing Ambient, Dub Techno, Minimal and Detroit Techno on 4 decks, while incorporating live samples is always well received. This has also led to them being invited to play many gigs in Manchester, London and Berlin. Individually, Tommy produces music as Asphalt Layer. His deep, electronic and dubby sound being heard on multiple record labels worldwide. Incorporating analog machines and field recordings to generate the many noises he uses in his productions, along with that 90's Jungle influence, his sound is very recognisable. And Wilson has begun a new alias, Scavenger, where he dives deep into the murky, experimemtal and dark, trippy techno world to produce very unique mixes. This alias allows Wilson to experiemnt more with his records and sound, often performing in a dark room on 4 decks alone. With a rich history of playing records and putting parties on in Manchester, hosting the likes of Remco Beekwilder, Ambivalent, Radioactiveman, Detroit Techno Militia, Mark Archer, Jerome Hill, El Choop, ODrex Records and Conforce, the boys have already secured some amazing artists for 2020 and intend to keep pushing that vibe they believe in and love. Thank you guys for your beautiful contribution to our Mix Series. Yarn Audio strikes back with another fabulous mix. Guest of honour is Tommy Harrison, delivering a playful selection of cutting-edge bass music and genre-shaping classics. Influenced by the likes of Mark Pritchard, Mosca, Boddika, Hessle Audio, Joy O, Floating Points, Zed Bias, Roska, Julio Bashmore and Digital Soundboy....but also bumping J Dilla non-stop. To say Harrison is versatile is not only an understatement, but somehow insulting to him as a DJ. Not only is he journeying over various genres of music, his record selections and performances involve music that has depth, soul and hits you in all those places you want it to...just when you want it to!
