ARREBATO. In this episode of The Music in Me, I'm sharing ten of my favorite underrated Disney songs from some of my favorite Disney movies. These may not be the biggest or most talked-about Disney hits, but they are the songs that truly mean the most to me. From the joyful energy of “Hawaiian Roller Coaster Ride” to the emotional depth of “The Next Right Thing” and “God Help the Outcasts,” I'm diving into the songs that build the story, reveal the heart of the characters, and stay with us long after the credits roll. I even talk about getting to see “He Lives in You” and “One Jump Ahead” performed live on Broadway in New York, which made me love those songs even more. These are the hidden Disney gems that deserve so much more love — and I can't wait to share why they matter so much to me.SONGS MENTIONED...Hawaiian Roller Coaster Ride from Lilo & StitchFrozen Heart from FrozenThe Next Right Thing from Frozen IIThe Gospel Truth 1/ Main Title from HerculesGod Help the Outcasts from The Hunchback of Notre DameHe Lives in You from The Lion King 2: Simba's PrideSon of Man from TarzanEvermore from Beauty and the Beast (Live Action)When We're Human from The Princess and the FrogOne Jump Ahead and the Reprise from AladdinWhat did you think of this episode? We usually avoid covering breaking news to keep our shows evergreen—but holy purrgil, major changes are coming to the Star Wars and Lucasfilm, and we had to dive in. Tricia Barr (Fangirls Going Rogue / Fangirl Blog) and BJ Priester (Fangirl Blog) join us to unpack two huge developments: the evolution of Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge and the major Lucasfilm leadership restructuring. Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge in Disneyland is officially expanding beyond a single timeline, with all changes set to debut April 29th. New storylines on Batuu will span multiple eras—from the Galactic Civil War to the Age of the Resistance—adding Luke, Leia, Han, and Darth Vader into the land. Disney is also rotating new artifacts into Dok-Ondar's and transforming First Order Cargo into Black Spire Surplus. The BEST update according to Sarah? John Williams' legendary scores are finally coming to Galaxy's Edge. Music from the first six films—including the Main Title, the Force Theme, and classic motifs like "Han Solo and the Princess"—will now fill the land. Nostalgia matters, and this addition delivers the emotional Star Wars immersion we've have been craving since the land first opened in 2019. All these changes will fully take effect on April 29. And just one day after this news, another bombshell dropped: Kathleen Kennedy is stepping down as president of Lucasfilm after 14 years, returning to producing, while Dave Filoni takes over as President and Chief Creative Officer alongside Lynwen Brennan as Co-President. Kennedy also addressed long-rumored, stalled film projects in a candid Deadline interview, and we discuss in detail. Lucasfilm is entering a bold new era, both in the parks and on screen. It's rare to have two 80s movies back to back that encapsulate the entirety of the 80s, but boy does this get there. Take the best of the Brat Pack, throw them in a shockingly historically accurate western, sprinkle with some truly wild accents, and you get a rootin' tootin' good time. They're not good movies, but they are enjoyable to watch. Round up, Regulators, as we watch Young Guns and Young Guns II on Have a Good Movie! The TV show Severance debuted on Apple TV+ in February 2022. It was created by writer Dan Erickson, and developed into a series by director and executive producer Ben Stiller. He directed the pilot and most of the episodes. After the first season came out, Severance was nominated for 14 Emmys, including Outstanding Drama Series, and it won two Emmys: for Main Title Design and for Musical Composition. I love this show, and the main title sequence is incredible. I was so excited to get to talk to the composer, Theodore Shapiro, about how he made the main title theme music. In this episode, you'll hear how that theme first came into existence in a totally different form, and then, how Teddy re-imagined it to become the final version. For more, visit songexploder.net/severance.

CONTENT WARNING: Discussion of deafness, blindness, ableism. If you've ever done theater, and we definitely have, you dread the thought of having to deal with anything related to this movie and this story. And you'd be right to, because all too often we tell a sanitized, ableist, overacted retelling of a very real story: the breakthrough Annie Sullivan had teaching her student Helen Keller to communicate. So you'll have to pardon our shock while watching the original film adaptation of the Broadway success, and finding it's in fact a brilliant film. Director Arthur Penn is brilliant in adapting his own stage production by showing and not telling, a move that seems impossible for most stage to screen adaptations. Anne Bancroft and Patty Duke, reprising their roles from Broadway, are absolutely phenomenal. And sure, the supporting cast might as well be cardboard cutouts, but it doesn't matter when you've got a film as compellingly made as this one. The duds just keep on coming this week as a movie about one of America's most dangerous (and quirky) prisoners just collapses under its own weight. Many times we celebrate directors and casts who deeply care about their subject. In this case, it somehow makes the whole experience worse, mostly because it commits the cardinal sin of being boring. It's not the worst movie we've ever seen, but it's a real drag to sit through. Oscars ‘62 continues as we talk about Birdman of Alcatraz onMacintosh & Maud Haven't Seen What?! Macintosh & Maud Haven't Seen What?!

We keep our Oscars series rolling and well, things have been rough to start. You'd think with a musical as culturally significant and iconic as this one that the movies would have done it up for fun. Sadly, this is an incredibly BORING movie. Sure, Robert Preston is incredible, and sure, the songs are fun, but after the 3rd of 17 dance breaks, you start to realize that our director just barely made a movie. They might as well have filmed the stage production and screened that instead for as much money as they sunk into this. That's right, it's been far too long, and we're back with a patented Oscars(TM) series, this time focusing on the year 1962. We kick things off this week with mid-century Hollywood stalwart Tennessee Williams. Boy do we wish we hadn't. There are some legitimately good and enjoyable performances, but they're wasted on a movie that said “you know what this play adaptation needs - more set pieces!” This movie is a hot mess, and not in the way Tennessee Williams would want us to see it. The "Skip Intro" button first got introduced to us through Netflix in 2017, and, I know, a lot of people use it – including me. But, if I can get into old-man, back-in-my-day mode for a second, I have so much fondness for the opening theme music for so many shows. It's a chance to set the mood for everything that you're about to see. One of the intros that I never skip is the animated opening title sequence for Only Murders in the Building, which is a Hulu show that debuted in August 2021, and now is in its third season. It was created by Steve Martin and John Hoffman, and it stars Steve Martin, Martin Short, and Selena Gomez. The three of them play neighbors who live in the same building in New York, and they're all obsessed with the same true crime podcast. And then when someone in their building gets murdered, they decide to start their own true crime podcast, and try and solve the mystery of who the killer is. For this episode, I talked to the show's composer, Siddhartha Khosla, about the show's theme music. Coming up, you'll hear a voice memo that Siddhartha recorded before he'd even heard about the show, which then led to a demo that you'll hear, and eventually, the final theme. For more, visit songexploder.net/only-murders-in-the-building.
