Our guests this week are good friends that went into the restaurant business together. 24 years ago, they were young, surfing a ton, and both had a lot of experience working in the restaurant industry. Maybe they were naïve, ambitious, or just a couple of young entrepreneurs looking to live out the American Dream of owning their own business? Call it “crazy coincidences or circumstances”, but they were able to buy an Iconic Restaurant “The Glider Inn” in Seal Beach. Over the years they have stayed true and focused on the Fundamentals, Great Fresh Food, Warm Ambience, Family Atmosphere, capped off with Stellar Service! Fast forward to today their original venture Mahe' is still a local & tourist favorite. Since then they have expanded with the additions of “The Brant Kitchen & Bar”, and “Ola Mexican Kitchen” at Pacific City in Long Beach and Huntington Beach! We welcome to the show “The Dynamite Duo” or better yet “The TNT” of the restaurant world Toby Reece and Tony Andrews! This week's reflection continues our series on Proverbs and we are looking at Proverbs 17:22 which says: "A cheerful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up bones" Tony Andrews is sharing his reflection on this verse. Before we dive into the verse, we invite you to grab a cup of your favourite drink and sit back to see what God has to say to you today through this reflection. We pray that this will be a time of blessing and encouragement for you as we learn from God's wisdom together.
The name of the Washington Redskins, Football Team, or Commanders (whatever you want to call them) has been a hot-button issue for a while now. After retiring the Redskins name and logo in 2020, many fans were up in arms. Now with a new ownership group led by the likes of Josh Harris and Magic Johnson, the organization has not been afraid to use the term Redskins when referring to the team's past. This led to the uprise of a petition with over 75K signatures to unretire the Redskins name and logo at the time of the release of this episode. Why would you want to return to a name that many consider controversial? That's what JackKnife and Zack Danielz want to find out as they brought in members of the Native American Guardians Association, the group leading this charge, as special guests for this episode. The Native American Guardians Association (NAGA) is a group of people, many of them Native American, who don't seek to eradicate symbols of American Indians in American culture, but rather to protect them and educate people on their meanings. Representing NAGA on this episode are mebers Bill Dieckman, a lifelong Redskins fan and Kiowa Indian, and Tony Andrews, a die-hard Redskins fan and social media coordinator for the Association. They sit down with the FUNTS to discuss facts and myths about the Redskins name and logo and what it means to them, what native imagery means to the other American Indian members of this Association, and the importance of educating and not eradicating the meaning of these symbols. “I actually believe that humans are made for more than what we're currently doing. We just need to switch on parts of our brains that we're not." Funktion-One creator Tony Andrews reflects on music and spirituality live from AVA London. According to visionary sound system designer Tony Andrews, the creator of Funktion-One, there's a spiritual current that unites humanity—and good sound is the first way for us to explore our communal mind. In this RA Exchange recorded live from AVA London, the founder of one of the best high-end speakers on the market reflects on his experience engaging in the broader, spiritual meaning of music and the universe and how his decision to start Funktion-One in 1992 sprung from a desire to help humans connect with each other. Far from being a technical deep dive into loudspeaker design and engineering, this conversation delves into his first forays into the world of sound as well as the broader implications of music and how it can incite a paradigm shift in how we experience the human experience and consciousness. Listen to the full, live talk and Q&A moderated by RA contributor Will Lynch.

In this episode of "Beyond the Lecture," cultural anthropologists Dominic Boyer (spring 2020 Axel Springer Fellow) and Cymene Howe, both of Rice University, reveal some insights from their recent research into Iceland's ancient traditions. What they found has profound implications for how we view grief, the future, and the way we come to terms with an increasingly shared sense of precariousness. Poet, playwright, and Yale University professor Claudia Rankine was at the American Academy in Berlin as a Distinguished Visitor in early November 2019, to deliver the John W. Kluge lecture. Academy producer Tony Andrews sat down with Rankine to discuss the various dynamics at work in the conversations she quotes in her forthcoming book, Just Us, a collection of essays that critically engages with the conversation as a racialized space. Most people don't get to start ONE successful company, let alone 2! This pair, Tony Andrews and partner, John Newsham have been fortunate to do exactly that. They are passionate about sound, and admit to hating Line Array... listen now! Brought to you by our friends at Elation Lighting.

Tony Andrews has been building PAs for decades. Today, the soundsystems made by his company Funktion-One are preferred by the world’s best clubs. Their speakers are more iconic than you might expect something so technical to be – a testament to Andrews’ uncompromising vision for how to achieve great sound. Here, Andrews discussed the curse of line arrays, how to prevent what he calls the chainsaw effect, and why listening to music through our phones and other portable devices has ruined our ears.
Mining as a career offers fantastic opportunities. And with the right mindset, those opportunities are vast, no matter where you start out. Our newest member of Team FACE, Dave Tomek, proves this in spades. Each Wednesday, join me, Peter Finn, managing director of FACE Contracting, as I navigate the ups and downs of the mining industry with forward-thinking professionals from all walks of life. If you're involved in the mining industry in any way – whether you're a lifer or a high-school student looking to make the leap – Full Production is the podcast for you. Dave has joined us as our new labour coordinator and Cobar branch manager. The beauty of having Dave on board at FACE is that his own mining journey shows just how far you can go in this business, no matter what cards you're dealt. As Dave tells it, in the eyes of the army at least, he's as blind as a bat – a fact that led to some pretty early disappointment. But turning to mining he found he had the mindset to go from strength to strength, right up to shift boss. And the rest, as they say, is history. It's a great lesson in not letting setbacks deny your potential. Dave's experience working with and managing all types of people in mining, puts him in a great place to really understand where people are coming from, what they've got to offer, and how they can reach their potential in what can be a lucrative and fulfilling career. Here's what we dig into: Dave's journey from supermarket storeman to mining success How to take the lessons from the tough times and use them for good Rising through the ranks in mining An insight into various different mining jobs and what's involved Lessons from managing a crew Effectively dealing with burnout, redundancy and toxic workplaces What drew Dave to FACE and how he became part of the team Finding a new home for your skillset Why you should never be ashamed to seek outside help, mental, financial, career or otherwise Links: Dave Tomek - LinkedIn Full Production EP#11 - Tony Andrews on A Life In Mining, Miners' Health and The Lessons Of History
In an industry of big characters, my guest on this episode of Full Production really holds his own. When it comes to working the mines, there's not a lot Tony Andrews hasn't done, from re-timbering shafts up to mine foreman, at mines up and down Australia. In mining, like everything in life, if you don't learn from the mistakes of the past, you're destined to repeat them. And that's why it was so great to have this chance to speak to my old mate, Tony, and get his perspective on the industry, how things have changed through his career, miner's and their health and relationships, and the future of the industry. Sadly, Tony's been diagnosed with terminal cancer, but as you'll hear, he's as bold, brassy and entertaining as he always has been – and filled with the wisdom of a lifetime working the mines. Enjoy. Just some of the stuff we get into includes: The importance of your health: physical, mental and emotional A look back at some classic mining history What past practices have taught us Reminiscences of some great old characters What we've learnt from some great tragedies The 4-and-4 versus the 7-and-7 lifestyle Life as a shift boss Putting your emotional intelligence to work Successfully working with young engineers What excites him about the future of mining Links: FACE Contracting
