In this installment of Freedom July we travel all the way to Italy with the ladies from The Hallmark Mahogany flick Unthinkably Good Things. It stars Karen Pittman as Allison, a woman who is at a crossroads in her life. She needs the love and support of her besties Melina, played by Joyful Drake, and Reesa, played by Erica Ash, who come to visit her in Italy. Unfortunately, their lives are in an upheaval all their own. In this episode: we marvel at 'cheese boyfriends' and use the word pecorino in a myriad of inappropriate ways, explore the circle of life...in bruschetta, and give marginally useful 'The More You Know' advice with some spicy topics peppered in. We are loving the Mahogany writing in this movie and are living our lives like they're golden on this journey with Unthinkably Good Things.
Cas Sigers Beedles has written movies across many networks including BET, TVOne, UPTV, and more. In our Hallmark world, she wrote both "Unthinkably Good Things" and "The Holiday Stocking". Listen to Cas as she shares the differences between being a novelist and a screenwriter, along with the logistics of being a movie producer. Les, Kurt, and Jason are back after a long break filled with lots of travel! Les went to New Orleans and Fresno! Kurt went to Fresno, too! And Jason went to Sydney, Australia! But now all 3 are back in their respective homes, though Jason and Les are very much over the unbelievable amounts of rain (and snow!) that LA has been getting. Kurt found out that he is apparently someone's “hall pass” (but who's the top?) Plus, there's a ton of Blac Chyna news all centered on her new makeUNDER. Then the guys are finally ready to head to Tuscany, the setting for Hallmark's 2022 film Unthinkably Good things. The first film under their Mahogany label (with a largely black cast), the movie is gorgeous, features 3 leads that all have genuine chemistry with one another, deals with real problems, and back to back montages (!) the movie seems so stuffed that it could benefit from spending more time in this world. But that doesn't mean we need to ever know if one of the characters REALLY think his sheep are his girlfriends. John from the Fake TV Critic podcast returns to discuss the 2022 Hallmark movie Unthinkably Good Thing.
The game has changed! After immediately revealing everyone's identities (I was right on 4 out of 5, thankyouverymuch), the contestants on season 2 of RuPaul's Secret Celebrity Drag Race perform together in a group number from the Vegas live show (because what is Drag Race if not one giant franchise marketing tool) and then each individually perform RuPaul songs. The results are mixed, with some strong showings from the usual crop and a very disappointing turn from one of our favorites. But we're one step closer to finding out which celebrity is taking home the crown and the $100k for charity, and next week we're getting SNATCH GAME! Also, I was back on Small Town Failing today, one of my favorite podcasts with one of my favorite podcast hosts, so make sure you give our episode about the Hallmark Mahogany movie Unthinkably Good Things a listen wherever you listen to your podcasts (just click that link). The Hallmark Channel recently launched a new branch called Mahogany. This channel is housed under Hallmark Movies & Mysteries and has story lines that feature American Black Culture with a predominantly black cast. Emily and Sophia review one of their latest movies that caught their eye! Unthinkably Good Things has a lot of key parts that they LOVE in a good Hallmark movie. Solid female friendships, cute town (it's mainly shot in Italy which *chef's kiss* so good), relatable life struggles, and gorgeous actors and actresses. Were the girls drawn in to the main characters' hardships? Was the camera work up to snuff for them? Were the outfits on point or a major disappointment? You'll have to listen in to find out for yourself!
The Hallmark Mahagony movie series is up and running. Does it stick the landing as an unthinkably good movie?
