Analysing the Best of the Best Albums, TV Shows and Movies from the confines of Co. Tyrone
WE ARE BACK! And there is no greater way to reintroduce yourself to the pack than with an absolute monster. Francis Ford Copploa's THE GODFATHER. 1972 and an epic grows from Mario Puzo's pages, as violent and compelling off screen as on. Let's get stuck in.
Ok, so strap in for this one. Ronan and Conor Mcgale, (Subterranean Community Cinema in Omagh), just managed to bag an interview with Ron Shelton. Ye know, writer/director/author/Oscar nominee, RON SHELTON. We discuss primarily his movie 'White Men Cant Jump', but talk about his history with the movie industry and his other work. This was major for us, big thanks to Conor Mcgale, and a massive shout out to John Meagher for the pull. Enjoy
In the true spirit of the Loud-Quiet-Loud metric used by the band, we explode in your earballs with a long awaited "Best of..". 1989's Doolittle by "The" Pixies. Get on the old Spotify/Apple likes and shares for us to feel all gooey and loved.
WE ARE BACK! Kicking off 2022, (its 2022, right?), with a 'Best of 2021' episode...oh the irony. We promise we have plans to make this a weekly occurrence and stop fucking around. Major thanks to all who've been enquiring about our return/ demise, means heaps. Get this into your earholes!
Patty S and the Reeves! Thats the new title for it! Stick this in your earholes whilst we drift off into the ocean, and Tom Sizemore and Gary Busey won't out-crazy us...POINT BREAK TIME!
Larry Davids post-Seinfeld TV moment is as highly regarded, if not more so, during its ongoing tenure. We take a look at the impressive world built in another HBO masterstroke...and gerbils in the butt, naturally.
One of the most contentious releases in modern history, (re-release?), and certainly not what we thought he was going to pick, but here it is with our special guest, Mr Mark McCarney. P.s. he chose this for all the right reasons, just listen. Enjoy our take on Zack Snyder's Justice League.
The Wachowskis bring their long-gestating script to life in breathtaking fashion with the Sci-Fi masterclass, The Matrix. We are back with a bang and have some major hitters lined up for the coming weeks, thanks for the continued support and downloads.
Tyler, the Creator's 'Flower Boy' with, (who else could it be), Aaron McCann. The phone rings, we get existential and Yumz invites us to his own 'Garden Shed'. I wish I was speaking in metaphors but I'm not. Good episode, give us any love if you're feeling it on the relevant "likes/comments" areas.
Stiller, RDJ, Black, Cruise, McConaughey etc so many big swingers, and they all manage to offend absolutely everyone in one of the smartest modern comedic satires. Join us for Tropic Thunder. Please continue with the comments and shares, we blether on about it but it does help get us out there. Merci!
Dazed and Confused, indie guru Richard Linklaters first major motion picture did not feel the love when first released, but is now considered a cult classic. Launching the careers of numerous actors and actresses we take a look into this absolute gem and why Tarantino calls it one of the "Top Ten films ever made". Again, shares and likes get us all tingly, so thank you for those.
'Definitely Maybe' by Oasis, a belter of a debut and an immediate sign of the domination to come. A right few requests for this one so we couldn't do it alone, we are happily joined by Darren Mitchell to keep us on point and not let Yumz lose the rag about the Gallagher's, well, not too much anyway. As always, likes and shares make our day.
Monty Python's Life of Brian. They got in a stick of bother for this one, but its while funny so we discuss why for the former and laugh along at the latter. Give us a wee 'Share and Like' if you're inclined to do so. You Lucky, Lucky Bastards!
Martin Scorcese captures the last performance of one of the most influential bands of all time. They bring along alot of friends and what transpires is absolute genius...how they did it? Thats another story altogether. We dig into The Band & Martys 'The Last Waltz'. Follows/Likes/Comments as always, very much appreciated. ***Hawkins not hawks...Rick not Scott***
TOP GUN! We are joined by our friend, (and mens volleyball fanatic), Emma Miller to go over the ultimate 80's flick. You think Kenny Loggins is the greatest solo artist of all time? Tony Scott created a visual genre? You wanna know how impressive Yumz's "Tom Cruise kiss'n" skills are? Then look no further! Shares and likes are forever appreciated.
HBO's initial trek into a serious cable drama laid the path for so much more. So in usual fashion we just awkwardly talk about "prison love" and setting the Video+ that never worked, (remember that craic?). Thanks for the kind reviews and ratings, always helps!
Curtis Hanson's 1997 Neo-Noir unleashed Guy Pearce and Russell Crowe upon Hollywood in ferocious style. Adapting loosely from the "unfilmable" James Ellroy novel a cast rounded out with De Vito, Spacey and Oscar winning Kim Basinger, there are tales a plenty in this one. Enjoy!
As the year spins off into the oblivion it deserves, we take a look back at our favourite movies/albums/TV of the year. Also a special mention for a particularly s**t movie early on. Oh, and Roney gets to play some Death Metal so that's him for another year. Thanks for 2020 to all our listeners who have kept it cool even when we disappeared for months, sound bunch.
C'mon, we had to do it! DIE HARD. Mctiernan, Willis, Rickman...the heaviest of heavy hitters was winced at by critics, but resides thoroughly as one of the most beloved films of all time. Joining us for his second appearance is Mr Mickey Bartlett. Thanks once again to all our listeners, the word keeps spreading.
Dr Strangelove. Kubricks 1964 jet-black satire feels the love from Ro & Yumz. In these times it's comforting for all listeners to know about nuclear warfare and the end of times, or, ummm...ITS HILARIOUS!!! Serious thanks to all the new listeners, weekly episodes are difficult currently but its not stopping your thirst for our drivel, so thank you.
Dark Side of the Moon, Pink Floyd's 1973 opus gets a little lovin' from the boys. Plentiful tales and personal tributes to debauchery lie within.
Tim Burton's 1988 horror-comedy is still top class. So, true to form, we end up talking about Batman just as much as Beetlejuice, for many reasons. The main one being we are divvies who cannot stick to the script, ENJOY!
HEAT. De Niro and Pacino face off in Mann's masterpiece from 95. A lot more happens, but that's all we cared about in the nineties. Let's go!
Rick & Morty episooooode! Ro and Yumz get stuck into Roiland and Harmons abomination, with their love licks. Share the love
Led Zeppelin 4/Untitled/Symbols/Runes....whatever its called, it slaps the face off most. So let's get into it.
Only Fools and Horses! Special guest Darragh Keys, (the "Rodney" of the Keys clan we hear), bombshells from the start. Please like and share, we have had a major boost the last few weeks in listeners...not exclusively South Americans lol.
De Palma gets Morricone, De Niro, Connery AND KEVY COSTNAY!?!?! All under the watchful eye of Mamets script to take on prohibition and the lawlessness of 30s Chicago. We are back!
50th episode! It had to be special, so its the one we've been asked about repeatedly since day one....THE WIRE. Shares, likes and comments all welcome. Patreon news soon, Ro & Yumz.
ITS OUR BIRTHDAY!!! This special "having a chat" episode is still filled with the usual bunkum...Vanilla Ice, Brian Harvey, The Chuckle Brothers, to name but a few. Also a special announcement about Bonus episode's and we answer a few questions sent to us. Thanks for all the help over the last year you lovely lot. Ro & Yumz
Shawshank! Hope is a good thing...episode! Ronan Boyle is a funny man and we are blessed with his presence. Get with the lovin'
Arnie and the gang ramp up the adrenalin ten-fold in this sequel to the 1984 release. A massive leap in technology, story and direction...the best sequel ever produced? Let's see! 'Mcglynn's Fancy'. Arty Mcglynns 1979 album is regarded as the high water mark for all traditional guitar playing. The finest guitar player in Ireland, was born and bred in Omagh town. We are honoured to be joined in this episode by his son, a master guitarist in his own right, Mr Jerome McGlynn. This one meant a wee bit more than all others. We hope you enjoy it.Contact: bestofthebestpodcast@gmail.com Cover Art: @hauntedboystuff Socials: https://www.facebook.com/bestofthebestpodcast/https://twitter.com/BestBes33397329?s=09https://www.instagram.com/invites/contact/?i=1gmdugyh4h6cg&utm_content=88hof9y
A lighter episode for you all this week. HAPPY GILMORE, 1996. Golf gets some love, Chris McDonald gets some love and we dissect American comedy of the time. A "no-brainer" in more ways than one. Thanks again for all the new listeners its proving the word is spreading.
'The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars'. David Bowie finally becomes a superstar in 1972 and doesn't relent his position as such until his untimely death in 2016. This is a masterpiece amongst many that Bowie produced in his unbelievable career. Let's get stuck in.
Silence of the Lambs day!!! Jonathan Demme's psychological masterpiece follows the source material very closely and affirms some of the most iconic characters in cinema. WE LIKE THIS, YOU LIKE THIS! Please continue to like and leave a nice review for our love coins.
Prince! We have had more requests for "The Purple One" than any other subject, so here we go, 'Sign O' The Times'. Bathe in the glow of the best of the best, LITERALLY. Share with friends, neighbours and strangers. #Prince #signothetimes
Christopher Nolan's crime masterpiece could be held alone outside of the usual "Superhero film" stereotypes. Jammed with fantastic set pieces, a great script and an Oscar winning turn by the late Heath Ledger all making this a no-brainer during lockdown.
The album that changed what "alternative music" meant, Nirvana's 'Nevermind'. In typical fashion we discuss everything...Frank Chism to Page 3...ye know, relevant stuff. Some great feedback recently on content, very happy with the recent spike in downloads and hopefully this lives up to expectations. Keep liking and sharing, spread the word of two Tyrone buckaroos.
Blackadder. We take a journey through medieval-elizabethan-regency-wartime Britain...but with a heap of laughs and two lads from Omagh holding the fort!?! Sounds good? Let's go. Thanks for supporting us by downloading and giving feedback.Contact: bestofthebestpodcast@gmail.comSocials: https://www.facebook.com/bestofthebestpodcast/https://twitter.com/BestBes33397329?s=09https://www.instagram.com/invites/contact/?i=1gmdugyh4h6cg&utm_content=88hof9y
This one sells itself, 1983 Trading Places. Eddie Murphy's world-domination begins, Danny Aykroyd cements his legendary status and everyone falls for JLC. Its brilliant, and you are probably not thinking about why...let's go.
Doggystyle, Snoop Doggy Dogg's 1993 debut album. A record-breaker that reached the heady heights of Omagh town and set our tiny minds alight. Thanks to all the new followers downloading away at past episodes, greatly appreciated. Keep spreading that word.Contact: bestofthebestpodcast@gmail.comSocials: https://www.facebook.com/bestofthebestpodcast/https://twitter.com/BestBes33397329?s=09https://www.instagram.com/invites/contact/?i=1gmdugyh4h6cg&utm_content=88hof9y

Dan Harmon's near mythical TV series is given the once-over by Ronan and Conor. Lunacy abounds as questions are answered...questions like, "why is Donald Glover in so many Childish Gambino videos"? Fight Club, Fincher & Palahniuk's head melter gets a healthy going over by Conor and Ronan. Is it still a valid assessment of mental instability and lads slappin each other? Yes, yes it is!
