For this year's Trilogy Month, we're tackling a much smaller trilogy than usual with Richard Linklater's BEFORE series. First up, listen to Thomas and Brandon discuss how Linklater's disappointment with DAZED AND CONFUSED inspired the movie, how a real-life encounter for Linklater was the basis of the film, how Linklater and team found Julie Delpy and Ethan Hawke in the casting process, why they made the movie in Vienna, how Gen X audiences weren't big fans but Boomer critics were, how the movie has become massively popular over the years, and so much more! Party Films Month rolls on with Richard Linklater's endlessly cool coming-of-age classic Dazed and Confused.Set over the course of one unforgettable night in 1976, the film captures the freedom, awkwardness, rebellion, and pure hangout energy of being young and having nowhere important to be. We dive into Linklater's laid-back storytelling style, the stacked cast before they became stars, and why this film continues to feel timeless decades later. From cruising around town to chasing parties and dodging paddles, Dazed and Confused perfectly captures that fleeting moment between adolescence and adulthood.Funny, nostalgic, and impossibly chill — this is the ultimate “last day of school” movie.#WatchTowerFilmPodcast #PartyFilmsMonth #DazedAndConfused #RichardLinklater #ComingOfAge #MatthewMcConaughey #FilmPodcast #CultClassic #CinephileTalk #AlrightAlrightAlright
In 1936, cannabis was portrayed as a menace to society. By 1993, it was simply part of the furniture.Episode Two of Helping or Hurting? revisits Dazed and Confused, Richard Linklater's cult classic set on the last day of school in 1976. Far removed from the hysteria of Reefer Madness, this film presents cannabis not as a threat, but as a quiet and unremarkable presence in the lives of American teenagers. But was this shift a step forward?Hosted by Paul O'Donoghue of Give & Toke, alongside Joel and Bash of Exotican, this episode explores whether Dazed and Confused helped normalise cannabis through relatability, or reinforced stereotypes that continue to shape public perception today.Part cultural time capsule, part social commentary, this conversation examines the intersection of cinema, stigma, and progress. This four-part series from Give & Toke and Exotican examines how cannabis has been portrayed on screen, and whether those portrayals have helped or hindered reform.Give & Toke: https://giveandtoke.comExotican: https://exotican.com.au
Sulfaris and Jack are being hunted by the enigmatic Father Sinamaque...
In this Special Edition episode, we shift gears from Hazzard County to a true cult classic—Dazed and Confused (1993). Set on the last day of school in May of 1976, this isn't your typical movie breakdown. Instead of one central storyline, the film drops you into a full-on snapshot of teenage life—cruising backroads, chasing parties, navigating friendships, and figuring out what comes next when everything familiar suddenly ends. We break down what makes this movie hit so differently, especially now. From the perspective of looking back on high school versus living it in the moment, the conversation digs into how the film captures that strange in-between phase of life—where you don't yet know what matters, but somehow you're right in the middle of it. There's also plenty of discussion around the characters, including Randall “Pink” Floyd's internal battle with expectations, Mitch Kramer's brutal introduction into high school culture, and of course the unforgettable presence of Wooderson—who may or may not have ever actually graduated. Naturally, we go deep on the cars—and this movie delivers. From the black Chevelle SS 454 to the orange GTO Judge, plus Trans Ams, Broncos, pickups, and everything in between, the car selection is as authentic as it gets. Nothing feels forced or out of place, and that realism adds to the entire experience. The soundtrack gets its due as well, with wall-to-wall 70s rock that drives the tone of every scene and eats up a surprising chunk of the film's budget. This is part movie review, part time capsule, and part reflection on what it all meant then—and what it means now. Whether you've seen it once or a hundred times, there's something here that hits a little differently depending on where you are in life. The post K&F Show #364: Special Edition Movie Review! Dazed and Confused (1993) – Last Day of High School in 1976 first appeared on The Muscle Car Place.

In today's episode Sarah Taylor, CCE talks with Sandra Adair, ACE, the celebrated editor behind some of the most enduring and emotionally resonant films of our time. Best known for her long-standing collaboration with director Richard Linklater on films like BOYHOOD, BEFORE MIDNIGHT, SCHOOL OF ROCK, and DAZED AND CONFUSED, Adair brings a rare blend of instinct, rhythm, and narrative sensitivity to every frame. About Sandra: Academy Award nominee, Sandra Adair, ACE, has enjoyed an ongoing artistic collaboration with director Richard Linklater, having edited 24 films for him over the past 33 years. Some of their collaborative work includes the cult classic DAZED AND CONFUSED, BEFORE SUNRISE, BEFORE SUNSET AND BEFORE MIDNIGHT, and last year's HIT MAN. Their latest collaboration is this year's BLUE MOON. In 2014, Linklater's BOYHOOD earned 6 Academy Award nominations, including Best Editing for Sandra. Sandra is a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, American Cinema Editors, and The Motion Picture Editor's Guild.
BT & Sal go off on Giants linebacker and third overall pick Abdul Carter, discussing off-the-field issues that sources say stem from excessive drug use, which has reportedly led to him falling asleep in meetings and showing a clear lack of professional commitment. Tierney and Licata debate the new prevalence of THC use in the NFL and argue that while the drug itself is less harmful than alcohol, Carter's problem is the "trifecta of failure": poor production (just 1.5 sacks in his rookie season), repeated disciplinary issues (benched twice for missing team obligations), and a failure to prioritize his career. They question why the Giants organization, from the previous regime to interim head coach Mike Kafka, allowed these character flaws to fester and whether this now looks like a "disastrous pick." The segment ends with a sharp comparison: Lawrence Taylor had his issues, but he was the greatest defensive player ever—Carter has zero production to lean on.
If you, “Woke up this mornin', dazed and confused,” and sung the lyric in your head, you've been bitten by the audio bug that is The Creekers. That line, the opening one from a song called “Tennessee” was the second-most played audio clip on TikTok this summer. It helped propel the Leslie County, Ky.-based bluegrass group to viral success, headline spots at music festivals, and ultimately a record deal with Warner Records. Co-founder Tanner Horton took time out from digging fence post holes on his home property one evening not long ago to sit in and tell us about the band's success, songwriting, how they all came together and a lot more. It turns out all but one member of the band has some sort of familial relationship with each other, either as direct as brothers (Jagger and Ashton Bowling), cousins (Horton and Allen Hacker) or by marriage (Scott Sutton). And then there's the outlier: fiddler Anna Blanton, whose live show antics have made The Creekers not just a sound for sore ears, but a sight to see live. She's done everything from zip-lining to riding on her husband's shoulders while jumping around the crowd. (Charlie Blanton incidentally, is the bass player for friend of the show Bill Taylor and the Appalachian Heatherns.) Horton told us the story of the band coming together, his history with cousin and fellow guitarist and vocalist Allen Hacker, how the TikTok virality happened and what exactly they've got in store in the coming months with the band's new record deal. Frank and Falls also chatted about Falls's recent trip outside of the Americana genre to take his daughter to a Tate McRae concert and they each share their Pickin' the Grinnin' pics for recommended music this week. Falls calls out Hazard, Ky., based vocalist Roy Caudill while Frank shares her experience seeing The Dirndolls live. Send us a textThis week on the Hey You Guys Podcast, Liam and Rob look back at Richard Linklater's iconic coming-of-age comedy, Dazed and Confused. With its fantastic cast, endlessly quotable dialogue and wonderfully timeless interpretation of 18 hours on the last day of school, Dazed and Confused might be set in 1976, Austin, Texas, but make no mistake, this remains one of the most relatable teen movies ever made. Does it all hold up though, or is Affleck just a bit to intense when it comes to paddling young boys? Listen in via the link in the bio to find out.
Richard Linklater is one of the most admired directors working today, and yet moviegoers may admire him for very different things. There are early comedies such as “Slacker” and “Dazed and Confused”; there's the romance trilogy that started with “Before Sunrise,” starring Ethan Hawke and Julie Delpy; and the crowd-pleasers like “School of Rock” and “Hit Man.” Linklater's “Boyhood,” a coming-of-age story shot in the course of twelve years as its protagonist grew from child to young adult, is almost without precedent. This month, Linklater has two new movies releasing almost simultaneously, both dramatizing historical moments in the lives of creative geniuses. In “Blue Moon,” Hawke plays the Broadway lyricist Lorenz Hart at the moment his career is being eclipsed by a rival, Oscar Hammerstein II. “My tagline for this movie, that they're not going to use on any posters, but it's my tagline: ‘Forgotten, but not gone,' ” Linklater tells our film critic Justin Chang. “It's so heartbreaking . . . to do a film about the end of someone's career.” In “Nouvelle Vague,” which is almost entirely in French, Linklater depicts the unconventional filming of Jean-Luc Godard's “Breathless,” his triumphant 1959 début. “The most important film,” Linklater says, “is the one you make in your head.” Justin Chang's article about Richard Linklater was published on September 27, 2025.

In this 2 1/2 hour conversation with Jaymee, Adam shares his gratitude as well as some of the pitfalls of working in the industry, everything from the highs of being hand selected by legendary directors like Stephen Speilberg and Richard Linklater, to the lows of developing an anxiety disorder from playing some of his most important roles, and the creative straightjacket of being typecast. It was around this date back in 1967 that Led Zeppelin founder Jimmy Page stumbled upon the Jake Holmes song “Dazed and Confused.” The Greenwich Village folk-rock singer opened for his group, the Yardbirds, at the Village Theatre in New York City and performed the song, which appeared on his recently released debut LP. Neither of them could've predicted the chain of events that would ignite a couple of years later when Page co-opted the song and made it one of Zeppelin's biggest numbers. Between those two events, Jake co-wrote two concept albums with Bob Gaudio; one for his group, Frankie Valli & the Four Seasons, and the other for Frank Sinatra. Director, writer, and actor Macon Blair has been making movies with friends since he was young -- including frequent collaborator Jeremy Saulnier. His new film is THE TOXIC AVENGER, starring Peter Dinklage and Kevin Bacon. It might not feel like an obvious follow-up to his work with Saulnier, nor to Blair's previous film, I DON'T FEEL AT HOME IN THIS WORLD ANYMORE; neither might seem like a direct descendent of Macon's "feeling seen" choice, DAZED AND CONFUSED. But as Jordan will uncover during this conversation, the through-lines are there. They always are. Then, Jordan has one quick thing about this year's BIG BAD FILM FEST. Alec and JJ dive into the multifaceted nature of the film "Dazed and Confused," a quintessential representation of the 1970s high school experience. We examine the film's narrative, which encapsulates the essence of adolescence while simultaneously highlighting the complexities of social dynamics among youth. The discussion addresses the themes of camaraderie and the intricate balance of bullying, which, as we contend, can sometimes serve as a rite of passage rather than mere cruelty. The hosts share their personal reflections on how the film resonates with their own formative years, contrasting experiences and noting the evolution of societal perceptions surrounding youth interactions. Ultimately, we celebrate the film's quotability, memorable characters, and its enduring status as a beloved classic that continues to evoke laughter and nostalgia.Support us:https://www.patreon.com/whatsourverdictEmail us: hosts@whatsourverdict.comFollow us:Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/whatsourverdictTwitter: @whatsourverdictInstagram: @whatsourverdictYouTube: https://youtube.com/channel/UC-K_E-ofs3b85BnoU4R6liAVisit us:www.whatsourverdict.com
This week, Andrea and Jodie are talking Dazed and Confused, Richard Linklater's attempt at an anti-nostalgia movie about the last day of school. We get into the vibes, the music, what makes the meandering plot work, and why, as adults, the hazing hits a little harder and the movie feels meaner than we remembered. Still, it's a hangout classic with killer needle drops and a cast full of future stars.Next week, we're watching Clueless. Written and directed by Amy Heckerling. As smart as it is stylish. It's an endlessly rewatchable Beverly Hills take on Emma, packed with iconic outfits, sharp dialogue, and one of the most lovable casts of the '90s.Recommended Reading:“Dazed and Confused: Not So Long Ago, But Very Far Away” - Chuck KlostermanAlright, Alright, Alright: The Oral History of Richard Linklater's Dazed and Confused - By Melissa MaerzIf you're reading this, that means you've probably got your podcatcher of choice open right now.
