Tyler Huckabee returns to the show and the late, great Hannibal Lecter makes his Substance debut! In 1991, Jonathan Demme shocked critics and audiences alike with his sleek, stylish, unsettling, and genuinely fantastic film The Silence of the Lambs. It went on to be the third film in cinematic history to win all 5 of the big awards come Oscar season. The film won Best Picture, Demme won Best Director, screenwriter Ted Tally won Best Screenplay, and Jodie Foster & Anthony Hopkins each won Best Actor/Actress. It was a true cultural phenomenon and in the last 30 years or so, it has lost none of its power or wonder. We had a great time welcoming Tyler back for this one, one of his self-proclaimed all-time Top 10 films. WARREN CUMMINGS has been rewatching THE X FILES.First broadcast on FAB RADIO INTERNATIONAL at 19:00 on May 25th 2025.This week, my regular co-host on the show, WARREN CUMMINGS has started on his re-watch of the 1990s sci-fi drama phenomenon from the mind of CHRIS CARTER which was, of course, THE X FILES, a ridiculously successful show that ran for nine seasons, spawned two feature films, and has since been resurrected for mini-series several times. The show featured the weekly adventures of two FBI agents as they investigated the kinds of strange and unusual phenomena that had been deemed worthy of inclusion in the infamously secret “X” files of the FBI, and involved investigations into such fascinating areas as the paranormal, the supernatural, the unexplained (including the possibilities of visits by aliens in unidentified flying objects), and attempting to untangle – or further entangle – all manner of the conspiracy theories that persisted towards the end of the increasingly paranoid 20th century. The series made stars of its two lead actors GILLIAN ANDERSON, who played the ever-sceptical DANA SCULLY, and DAVID DUCHOVNY, who played investigator and want-to-believer-in-chief FOX MULDER.Very much in the television tradition of THE TWILIGHT ZONE, KOLCHAK THE NIGHT STALKER and the recent hit at that time TWIN PEAKS, and borrowing much of its imagery from popular films of the time like THE SILENCE OF THE LAMBS, THE X FILES also spawned a spin-off in the form of THE LONE GUNMEN, and in no small way led to the creation of the remarkable series MILLENNIUM, which is in itself a significant stepping stone in the history of the police procedural, and the coming of shows like CSI in the following decade.PLEASE NOTE - For Copyright reasons, musical content sometimes has to be removed for the podcast edition. All the spoken word content remains (mostly) as it was in the broadcast version. Hopefully this won't spoil your enjoyment of the show.

“…if the DA (Democratic Alliance) does not…get up and fight, no matter if it costs…the seats of power… if we are going on the trajectory we are today,… the loss of a country will be blamed, not on the ANC (African National Congress)…but because...of the Democratic Alliance not being now able to get up and freely defend us on a surgical basis like they previously had.” This is the warning from United Independent Movement (UIM) President Neil De Beer who says: “…you've got DA ministers sitting in the exact Cabinet of wolves, of the draconian dragons, and having to be silenced because they serve an overlord.” He also gives his take on the members of Team SA facing US President Donald Trump later this week; later this week; lists his reasons for calling President Cyril Ramaphosa “Coward Number One”; and weighs in on Minerals and Energy Minister Gwede Mantashe's “nepo baby” son Buyambo Mantashe. De Beer says that South Africa is falling apart because it “cannot muster any more defense against an ANC who annihilates us in politics, disregards the GNU, absolutely takes us for fools and continues to run this country as if they are still in power.” He says someone will have to “take out an atomic bomb and drop it in” the GNU because “…we are in bigger trouble than what we thought in this GNU. We are better outside than what we are within”. He also notes that even Police Minister Senzo Mchunu has gone quiet. “This is when the dark crude oil of the ANC just slithers down your body and encapsulates you like being in a barrel of oil.” Meanwhile, De Beer comments on the prospects of another candidate for the ANC's next presidency; as well as former Vlakplaas Commander Colonel Eugene de Kock - who “went to jail for many generals and their sins” - remerging from the shadows in the case of the Cradock Four.

With characteristic humility and wisdom, Medavoy shares fascinating stories from his illustrious career.Early Life and Global Upbringing (03:12)Born in Shanghai in 1941 to Russian-Ukrainian Jewish parents, Medavoy moved to Chile in 1947 before settling in California, speaking Shanghai-nese, Russian, Spanish, and English.Breaking into Hollywood (07:40)After UCLA and the US Army Reserve, Medavoy started in Universal's mailroom in 1964, making industry friendships that became the foundation of his career. From Agent to Studio Executive (11:15)Medavoy recounts transitioning from talent agent to Senior VP of Production at United Artists, where his first major film was One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest.United Artists and an Unprecedented Oscar Run (16:26)At UA, Medavoy helped shepherd three consecutive Best Picture winners: One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, Rocky, and Annie Hall.Formation of Orion Pictures (19:43)Medavoy discusses co-founding Orion Pictures, which produced classics like Amadeus, Platoon, and The Silence of the Lambs.Stories Behind the Classics (24:26)Fascinating behind-the-scenes stories about iconic films including Platoon, Terminator, and Apocalypse Now.Advice for the Next Generation (38:56) For emerging filmmakers, Medavoy recommends "The Story of Film" as essential viewing.Throughout this conversation, Medavoy reveals himself as not just an industry treasure but a thoughtful observer of both cinema and life. His journey from immigrant roots to Hollywood exemplifies the dream many pursue but few achieve. With remarkable candor, he discusses both triumphs and regrets, offering listeners a rare glimpse into the mind of someone who has truly shaped modern cinema while remaining, as Kevin notes, "a very charming and decent human being."If you enjoyed this episode, please leave us a review or connect on social media.

Gather round in reverence for the greatest gift of all: a new Christmas episode from The Kings of Drink Mountain! Things get festive as a surprise fan delivers a special present for the holiday, including today's beverage. And "yesterday's" beverage, as it turns out, as Josh decides to enjoy it as only he can. While the show might be focused on the highest-quality, most-trusted drink reviews you can find, that doesn't mean that it doesn't explore important issues. Enjoy a stocking full of topics like new finds in human anatomy, Korea's obsession with the name Jacques, TV's Huxxxtable family, and why "when I smell Brut, I smell my grandpa" all get plenty of discussion. Then cuddle up to the fireplace and explore why Josh really loves grammar, Ben's source of holiness, what it means to watch Die Hard, and why Christmas just might be canceled this year. And sip on some cocoa while we play Braindead Trivia and wax poetic about Hannibal Lecter's future in stand-up. It all culminates with the star on the tree: the darkest ending to an episode ever (and it has been toned down!). That'll get you in the spirit! So load up the sleigh and go for a ride to the North Pole (with a layover in Mexico) with America, Greenland, and New Zealand's Favorite Podcast: Drinks With Josh!

SHAWN SHERIDAN, JAMES GONIS, LARRY STROTHE, and MATT WEINHOLD, revisit that strange, transitional, hard-to-define decade of film that produced so many fright classics! Put the lotion in the basket and steady your nerves for... '90S HORROR! The 90s were an interesting time for the horror genre, and unlike the 80s, a bit more difficult to pigeonhole. It was an era that expanded the success of many popular franchises like FRIDAY THE 13TH, PHANTASM, BASKET CASE, HELLRAISER, EVIL DEAD, and CHILD'S PLAY, experimented for better or worse with CGI, and gave us new horrors that still had a bit of that loveable eighties vibe. Yeah, we're lookin' at you FRANKENHOOKER, DEAD ALIVE (aka BRAIN DEAD), and WISHMASTER! And let's not forget the unprecedented Oscar wins for SILENCE OF THE LAMBS. By introducing elements of the thriller, "Silence" and its descendants/copycats nearly made horror mainstream. But there's so much more to the story than that. By sheer coincidence, the guest we got for this episode just so happens to be the producer/director of the mega-documentary, IN SEARCH OF DARKNESS: 1990-1994, and a past guest/dear friend of MONSTER PARTY He is also the visionary who brought us the long-form 80s horror documentaries in the IN SEARCH OF DARKNESS series,  IN SEARCH OF TOMORROW: THE DEFINITIVE '80S SCI-FI DOCUMENTARY,  ALIEN EXPANDED, and THE THING EXPANDED! And if that were not awesome enough, he's a multiple RONDO AWARD WINNER, the past executive editor of FAMOUS MONSTERS OF FILMLAND, and writes the celebrated blog...
