Bubbles and Banter is a podcast discussing the latest in pop culture, news from the media and entertainment world and interviews with funny, interesting and inspiring guests sharing their personal stories. Hosted by Olivia Johnson.
After a hiatus, I'm back on the podcast detailing my 3-years-long health battle. It's been a journey that has included my second endometriosis surgery for stage 4 endo, a SIBO (Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth) diagnosis, and what now looks like mold toxicity. Between weight gain, hair loss, insomnia, and brain fog to name a few, it's been an ordeal. I try to detail everything somewhat lightheartedly, but I wanted to share my experience and struggles to help others who might be going through it. I've been to countless doctors, had tons of bloodwork and ultrasounds, and even had a colonoscopy and endoscopy. I've done everything! Hearing other people's stories has been really helpful for me so I wanted to share mine and why I'm feeling hopeful that I might finally be seeing the light at the end of the tunnel!Visit my blog at baublestobubbles.comInstagram https://www.instagram.com/baublestobubbles/
Our first recurring Bubbles and Banter guest is on the podcast today! I chatted with my friend Bryanna Bach from the blog Coming in Clutch about all things fashion. We talk about how our fashion choices and shopping habits changed in 2020 amid the pandemic and what we see for the future of fashion. We also talk about the fashion trends we're seeing for 2021, and if certain styles are out for good once the pandemic is over. Bryanna and I could talk about fashion for hours and hours and I'm already excited for her to be back as a guest!
Today I'm talking with comedian Joanna Goslin about her stand-up comedy journey and how she got her start. I really enjoyed this conversation because Joanna overcame some harsh critics at a young age to continue pursuing a passion and talent. We met through an online content creation class at Second City and I'm so grateful we crossed paths! Side note: if you're wanting to do something creative but feeling stuck due to the pandemic, I highly recommend taking an online class. Not only is it a great way to sharpen your skills and do something creative, but it's been perfect for connecting with people across the county who have similar interests and goals!
It's just me on today's episode and I wanted to talk about some of the passions I've been secretly pursuing the past few years! I truly feel like I live a double life sometimes with balancing my blogging, real estate, personal, and now comedy content creation careers. I wanted to talk about my journey from getting the idea to take acting classes, then improv, and now writing and content creation in the comedic space. It's scary to reveal something you've held close to the vest for so long, but I think it's good to get uncomfortable. I ramble a lot in this episode but really wanted to share some personal thoughts and struggles I've had to overcome over the years, and hope it can help someone else who feels nervous to take a leap into something new.
As someone who has been creating content on the Internet since 2012, I've noticed some trends over the years. In my opinion, October has emerged as peak season for "influencers". Now, the word influencer encompasses so many different groups of people who create content on social media and the internet. These tips are mainly geared toward those who want to achieve the highest levels of "basic". Think pumpkin patches, pumpkin spice lattes, large brimmed hats, and leaves. Lots of leaves. I wanted to share some simple steps in case you too seek to become an autumnal influencer. *In case anyone out there reading this takes things way too seriously, this episode is meant to be a lighthearted satire on influencer culture. After doing this for so many years I've learned to find humor in things that may otherwise be frustrating, which this "influencer" world can definitely be sometimes!Follow me on Instagram: https://instagram.com/baublestobubblesFollow the podcast on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/bubblesandbanterpodcast/
As a child of the 90s I frequently reminisce of the good old days and simpler times. I got together with my friend Molly Villari of the blog See Molly Blog to chat about our most nostalgic fashion moments from the greatest decade ever! Molly and I actually knew each other during the 90s as we were on the same swim team and reconnected as adults through blogging. I figured she'd be the perfect person to chat about our style from back in the day. Whether it was butterfly clips or anything and everything from Limited Too, there is much to dissect from this glorious decade of our childhood. We also spend a good deal of time talking about Bath and Body Works face glitter. If anyone else lived through the times of wearing roller glitter on your face then you understand!
This past week we made the tough decision to postpone our wedding due to the coronavirus pandemic. We were scheduled to get married June 20, 2020, but with everything going on we agreed this just isn't feasible right now. I wanted to share some insight into how we made our decision and also give some tips in case any of you had wedding scheduled for 2020.
Recapping the Season 12 premiere of Real Housewives of New York and Summer House's latest episode.
Influencer Arielle Charnas of Something Navy has been making headlines during the coronavirus pandemic. People are questioning her decision to document herself getting tested for the virus on her Instagram account and more recently decamping to the Hamptons to self-isolate with her family after testing positive. While I'm not as interested in gossiping or judging, I'm more interested in this situation and the growing argument that influencers are disconnected from their followers and reality. In a world of oversharing, I think this unprecedented time we're in will further put the spotlight on influencers to see who can and cannot relate to their audiences.
After a monthlong hiatus due to a severe case of the flu, I'm back! Today we're discussing why women are ditching underwire bras while working from home during social distancing and why I'm totally on board with this. If you're not from Ohio you may not know about our two amazing leaders guiding us through this coronavirus crisis. I highly recommend reading up on Dr. Amy Acton and why she's an inspiration to everyone! Two Ohio apparel brands have actually created t-shirts paying homage to Governor Mike DeWine and Dr. Acton. You'll soon learn why 2 p.m. every day is now "DeWine time". I end the episode with a long-winded discussion about my love for Real Housewives and why now is the perfect time to dive into a franchise if you've never dabbled. Just call it a history lesson into the amazingness that is Real Housewives!
Today I'm chatting all about Cincinnati with Michelle Jones of the blog Hey Michelle. We are both born and raised in Cincinnati and we discuss all of our favorites, from restaurants to must-visit spots. Even if you're not from Cincinnati, hopefully this episode serves as some inspiration for what to do if you ever stop in the Queen City!
On today's episode, my friend and fellow content creator Bryanna Bach of Coming in Clutch joins me to discuss some of the most iconic and memorable fashion trends from the past decade! There were some interesting fashions that made their way into our closets in the 2010s and although these pieces may be long gone from your life, thanks to the internet, the memories aren't going away anytime soon. From Crocs to flower crowns, we cover trends that went from being everywhere to nowhere, and some that have evolved with time. We also talk about upcoming fashion trends for 2020 and what we think is going to be in style for the year ahead!
Today I'm in my new podcast setup sitting on my big green couch in my living room! Megan Sullivan of With Grace B. Bold and I chat about her company, which offers stylish and functional tops for women undergoing treatment for breast cancer. She is a graduate of the University of Cincinnati's DAAP program, where she studied fashion design and talks about what it was like going through the program, the inspiration behind her creating this top and company, and future products she has planned for the brand! Rambling about all things wedding! While I'm not getting married until June of 2020 wedding planning takes a lot of time and preparation. I talk about what I have locked down already, like my church and wedding reception venue, and what I still need to do, like PICK OUT MY WEDDING DRESS! I feel like people glamorize the wedding planning process and nobody really talks about how expensive and stressful it can be. I like to be an open book and talk about what I've learned so far planning a wedding and the vendors I've already booked that I'm really lucky to have! I also share some brief thoughts on Real Housewives of Orange County and realized after recording and uploading this episode that Real Housewives of Dallas has already premiered. I thought it was on next week, but fully blame my Spectrum cable guide on this one because it told me Million Dollar Listing was on last night!
Ranting about the Instagram ban I've been experiencing for a week and my theory behind the ban. I also discuss my joy over the news that Lizzie McGuire is coming back and Hilary Duff will be reprising her iconic Disney role! Real Housewives of Orange County is back with new cast member Braunwyn and Vicki Gunvalson being demoted. Below Deck is wrapping up and chef Ben will be making an appearance to help bring good food back to the yacht.
Today I'm interviewing Marisa Gouda who is a luxury consignment manager for The Real Real. In addition to her job at The Real Real, Marisa also is a stylist, which makes her extremely knowledgable and well-qualified to help customers who are considering parting ways with their luxury items. The Real Real has been everywhere lately, and she explains how the process works and what it's like to consign with the company, including what kind of commission you can expect when selling your items with them. We talk about which brands and items tend to be the most popular on their site, and Marisa is also offering a free 2-hour closet cleanse with the code 'REALREALFALL2019'. Because she's a stylist, she's the perfect person to help you purge your closet and style what you already own. Contact Marisa at marisa.gouda@therealreal.com or feel free to reach out to me to get in touch with her!
Today I'm talking about Marissa Fuchs from The Fashion Ambitionist who was at the center of the viral social media proposal and wedding that took place recently. Her longtime boyfriend Gabe supposedly set up a scavenger hunt around the United States and France for her to eventually find him and get engaged/married. The entire scene unfolded before our eyes on Instagram Stories, but halfway through some information was revealed that changed everyone's minds about this entire ordeal. As an "influencer" myself (I prefer blogger or content creator), I share my thoughts on this whole scenario. How much is too much when sharing our personal lives for sponsored opportunities and followers?
I recorded this episode back in May on the morning that I turned 29! This episode is me sharing all the different thoughts going through my head now that I'm entering the last year of my 20s and how I feel like I've changed, especially from my early 20s!
In this brief introductory episode of Bubbles and Banter I'm introducing myself and explaining a bit about why I started a podcast. I want this to be a fun, interesting space where I share more of my personality and love for all things pop culture, media and other people's interesting stories. I love having conversations with people whether the topic is Real Housewives, how someone overcame hardship to achieve success or exchanging stories about our most cringe-worthy moments.
