The global shipping fleet is getting older, but it is also getting more dangerous. As freight rates surged in a tonne-miles driven market, many shipowners delayed scrapping older vessels, which put seafarers, cargo and the environment at greater risk. The industry must now act decisively to improve safety standards amid an ageing fleet, argues the class society DNV who have used Lloyd's List Intelligence casualty data to analyse the trends. Lloyd's List editor-in-chief Richard Meade sat down with Knut Ørbeck-Nilssen, CEO of DNV Maritime, on the sidelines of the Nor-Shipping event being held in Oslo this week to discuss what this means and what can be done about it

whewww is this a topic that NEEDED to be talked about! let's face it-as woman, we all think about getting "old". one day or another, we are bound to spot the physical changes that come with age, everyone will. but let's remind ourselves that it is all a mindset. rather than fear it, try to accept it. for a very long time, woman have faced countless ends of judgment from others (as well as from themselves) as they have aged. youth is such a sacred thing, and looking and feeling "young" is something that every older person strives for. in this episode, Janni and Rachel speak on their own opinions and viewpoints of aging in society as women and mothers, and what they look forward to as they grow. change is inevitable, so let's not run from it-because as human beings we are supposed to be ever-evolving. that's just life! aging is truly something to be grateful for. as we get the opportunity to live out our lives, watch our children grow older, and do everything we dream of doing. we only get one body in this lifetime of ours, so let's hold onto it and take care of it while we can.

Holly's new book, He Would Never, is out now. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
The writer had a complex relationship with his mother, whose professional reputation built a wall between them, but also saved his life more than once while working as a war correspondent.Peter Godwin was born in Zimbabwe when the country was still under colonial rule. His English mother was the only doctor for thousands of kilometres and early on, Peter realised that he came second to her patients. When Peter was little, civil war broke out at home and so he was sent away to boarding school, and then conscripted by the army when he was still a teenager. After his service, Peter became a journalist and while on the ground, his mother's professional reputation saved his life more than once, including the time he was kidnapped while reporting in Somalia. As he grew older, Peter came to see his mother in a new light, and he finally learned the real reason she and his father had emigrated to Africa in the first place. This episode of Conversations explores PTSD, war correspondence, journalism, colonialism, the British Empire, Africa, Civil War, the United Kingdom, mothers and sons, the death of a sibling, grief, occupational hazards, mental health, grief, memoirs, biography, origin story, epic, adventure, conscription, boy soldiers.Exit Wounds is published by Allen&Unwin.

Morning Mantra: "Forgive who you were and celebrate who you are. It took a lot to get here."To wish you were any different in the past means that you have grown since then. You have healed some of the broken bits, you have become more compassionate, more confident, and value your time more. When you're young you aren't yet who you will become and you grow with your struggles and losses throughout your life. You develop compassion, empathy, understanding, and love for those undergoing some of the same things you have endured in your lifetime. You know yourself better, like yourself better, and are more confident in your own skin. You understand that your time is limited so you make the best use of it.Getting older is also getting wiser.#BeOKWithGettingOlder #BeHappy #BeHorsey #BeHippie #HorseHippie #MorningMantra #WordsToInspire #InspirationalQuotes #HorseHippieBoutique #SmallBusinessOwner #WomenOwned #HorseHippieBoutique

New research shows more over-40s are giving birth than teenagers for the first time in history. Why? And what does it mean for the future of fertility? We ask Lindsay Davidson, who had her son at 43, and Dr Luciano Nardo of Now Clinics. Meanwhile, as a new Netflix documentary sounds the alarm over kidfluencing, Meta says it will ban its live features for under-16s. Adelina Gschwandtner, an economist at the University of Kent, joins the show to delve into new research which suggests getting a pet could improve our lives as much as getting a spouse, or a AED20k a month payrise… And Tom Poulson, Sales Director at Haus & Haus, is on hand to examine the sales boom in Dubai's villa communities... "If I don't move to the city before they build that car dealership I will kill myself"I wrote that in my journal because I grew up in a place that I just can't seem to get out of with hopes of a larger experience. I'm turning 27 this year. I know in the grand scheme of things that isn't too old but if I don't do something now I will never get out. All I'm doing is just getting older. Am I getting any wiser? Any kinder? Any smarter? More loving? More mindful? More attentive? Less angry? Less defensive? Less attractive?I don't know, really. All I know is that I'm just getting older. Oh, and that I don't care for car dealerships too much. How is your....getting older? Tell me at (608) - 856- 4955At The Beep
