Tussen 2019 en 2021 spreekt een 51-jarige man uit Gouda kinderen aan die buiten aan het spelen zijn. Hij neemt ze mee naar een afgelegen plek. Daar laat hij zijn geslachtsdeel zien, vraagt de kinderen hem aan te raken of laat ze zelf hun kleding uittrekken. 28 kinderen worden slachtoffer van deze man, maar het blijkt moeilijk hem op te kunnen sporen. We zitten halverwege de boekenweek en al jaren wordt er minder gelezen en laait de discussie over de literatuurlijst op scholen ook weer op. Daarom ging de NOS voor hun podcast De Dag langs op een middelbare school in Gouda om in gesprek te gaan met leerlingen en leerkrachten over het leesonderwijs. Docent Arnoud Kuijpers zei dat hij het erg belangrijk vindt dat er in zijn klas wordt gelezen. En één van de redenen is dat lezen je empathie zou vergroten. Maar is dat ook zo?
