Summary In this episode, Andy talks with John Krewson, co-author of Pitch, Sketch, Launch: A Sketch Comedy Approach to Product Development. John's journey spans software development, acting, and even a stint with Saturday Night Live. He now leads Sketch Development, where he helps teams build products people actually want, faster and with more joy. In this conversation, John explains why project teams should behave more like creative troupes than traditional org charts. You'll hear how laughter can be a feedback loop, why messy first drafts matter, and how simple tools like sticky notes, Elmo cards, and Lean Coffee can radically improve your team's collaboration. We also explore how sketch comedy's "test before polish" approach can transform how we ship ideas, and what that looks like on real-world teams. From unblocking meetings to unleashing creativity, this episode is packed with practical tools and paradigm shifts. If you're looking to bring more energy, experimentation, and feedback into your team's workflow, this episode is for you! Sound Bites "The best ideas often start as bad ones. The magic is in iteration." "You're not building a product. You're testing a hypothesis in the real world." "Sketch comedy taught me this: if the audience isn't laughing, it doesn't work. Product teams need that same feedback mindset." "You can't argue with the emotion of a dead silent audience when you think you've got gold." "We often equate busy with productive. But they're not the same thing." "A meeting isn't productive just because everyone showed up. Did it move ideas forward?" "Troupes thrive on trust and feedback. Traditional teams often operate on fear and approval." "I was a mediocre software developer, which made me well-suited for management." "You are sucking the fun out of this. We are building software here. We get to play on computers. Let's make this fun." "There's this ruthless search for feedback that we learn how not to take things personally." "Nowhere in that iron triangle does anybody talk about whether or not the customer said, 'I needed that thing in the first place.'" "We're not just cross-functional. We're cross-committed. That's what makes a team operate like a troupe." "If you're building something new, you need a mechanism to decide if it's valuable. And if it isn't, you toss it." "The law of averages will tell you: 80% of the ideas need to be tossed." For more learning on this topic, check out: Episode 316 with Jennifer Aaker and Naomi Bagdonas. It's a conversation on humor as a secret weapon in business and life. Episode 109 with Peter McGraw. It's also about humor, a fun follow-up, even though John's book isn't just about comedy. Episode 469 with Phil Wilson. It's packed with great ideas for unleashing your team, which ties in beautifully with John's approach. The Black Lincoln Collective Comedy Podcast – “Primary Pube”Featuring: Michael & Jeremy Steal Your PodcastRuntime: Approximately 55 minutesTone: Irreverent, Sarcastic, and Completely UnsupervisedListen Now: americasfavoritepodcast.comEpisode OverviewWhat happens when two podcasts collide, no one's in charge, and everyone's armed with bad jokes and worse ideas? The BLC crew teams up with Michael & Jeremy Steal Your Podcast for a crossover episode that's part roast, part theft, and completely off the rails. With Fred absent, Parker's left to wrangle two guests who immediately take over the show. From fake sponsors to philosophical tangents about body hair, this episode has no boundaries and even less structure. If you're looking for clever insight, good taste, or a clear plot, this isn't it. But if you enjoy pure, unfiltered chaos that somehow turns into comedy gold, Primary Pube delivers.Segment Breakdown and Timestamps[00:00:00] Cold Open – Seatbelts and StupidityThe show starts with random movie quotes, overzealous introductions, and a fake “Official Joe Rogan Show” partnership. It's loud, confusing, and somehow on brand.“We're like Joe Rogan… but less smart and way more affordable.”[00:03:10] Fred's Missing, Guests InvadeFred's “booked on a comedy gig,” which leaves Arthur unguarded.Michael and Jeremy immediately roast the intro, hijack the flow, and claim ownership of the episode.Within minutes, no one knows whose podcast this is anymore.[00:07:25] The “Primary Pube” DebateThe title finally gets explained—sort of.A ridiculous argument about which body hair deserves “top billing” turns into pseudo-science, fake grooming rules, and a group meltdown.Scientific credibility: zero. Commitment to the bit: total.[00:12:40] Podcast Theft and Intellectual PropertyThe guests attempt to legally “steal” The Black Lincoln Collective in real time.Mock cease-and-desist letters, improvised contracts, and bad lawyer impressions dominate the segment.Spoiler: nobody wins the lawsuit.[00:18:55] AI Sponsors and Bidet Technology You Didn't Ask ForArthur introduces an AI-generated sponsor for a “smart bidet with emotional awareness.”Michael and Jeremy immediately steal the idea for their own show. The theft continues—now with water pressure.[00:25:10] Existential Tangent – What Is a Podcast? An unintentional deep dive into philosophy:If your podcast is stolen mid-recording, do you still exist? The group gets close to an actual insight before ruining it with a bad sound effect.[00:31:45] Crossfire Roast SessionRapid-fire insults fly in every direction.Running jokes include “Florida logic,” “fake laughter,” and who's the worst at their own soundboard. No one escapes unscathed, least of all the hosts.[00:39:15] The Great Florida DebateArthur tries to defend his “Palatial EC Studios” in South Carolina.Jeremy counters with real Florida Man stories that make Arthur rethink the entire state. Conclusion: no one wins, and Jacksonville takes the loss.[00:45:22] Accidental Depth (Followed by a Fart Noise)A rare serious moment about burnout and creative chaos sneaks in.Arthur immediately ruins it with a fart button.Classic BLC—profound for three seconds, then gone forever.[00:52:10] Outro – The Mutual HeistMichael and Jeremy officially steal the outro.Arthur vows revenge and threatens to steal their theme music in return. The episode ends mid-laugh, mid-insult, and possibly mid-lawsuit. #blcpodcast #podcastingforthepeople #funny #podcast #greenvillesc #scpodcast #yeahthatgreenville Listen at: https://americasfavoritepodcast.com Tweet the Show: https://twitter.com/blcworld Follow us on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/blcpodcast/ Check us out on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/blcpodcast/ Buy Fred and Allan Beer: https://www.patreon.com/blcworld

Season 0 trudges along with absolutley no breaks in realeasing episodes whatsoever. I can only assume this, like everything, has gone to plan. Either way here is the next timely episode of Blab Rats, where we hear what must be the real dreams and hypnagogic hallucinations of TV anchorman Moon Weathersly.

Bård YlvisåkerTake a walk with me down Fascination Street as I get to know Bård Ylvisåker. Bård is one half of the Norwegian comedy & music duo "Ylvis". In this episode, we chat about how growing up in Africa and abroad helped him and his brother (Vegard) develop their own sense of comedy. He shares stories of the brothers getting started and finding the way to their own unique sound and comedic voice. I also ask him about some of the variety television shows that him & Vegard participated in and developed. They hosted a radio show for several years on Norway; as well as several comedy television series in the region. Obviously, we talk about his experience on 'Taskmaster' (Kongen Befaler) as well as the show "I Kveld med Ylvis". Then, in 2013, Ylvis rocketed to worldwide stardom with the smash comedy-pop hit song "The Fox (What Does the Fox Say?)". This song became a global phenomenon, with over 1.2 BILLION views on YouTube. Bård explains what the song is about, and what the success of it did for him and his brother. He describes what it was like to tour the world, while having a brand-new baby, and how that kept him grounded. We also discuss a 7-episode comedy series made for Norwegian television called 'Stories From Norway'. This series was based on true events where a group of Norwegian scientists launched a rocket carrying scientific equipment to study the Aurora Borealis. Due to an error in communication within Russia; officials there mistook it for a nuclear warhead headed toward Russia, launched by an American submarine off the coast of Norway. The story is absolutely insane, but true, The Ylvis television series made light of the event, while also spreading the knowledge that it was the closest we have come to an actual nuclear war on Earth. Hard to believe, but the songs from this project are hilarious! You can find those songs on Spotify and elsewhere; but the TV show itself, is nearly impossible to locate. So, if anyone has, or can find it.... SEND IT TO ME! Naturally, Bård lets me play 'The Fox', and another song by Ylvis that is also one of my favorites. Check them out at Ylvis.com and see what they are up to.
