With Capt. Kevin continuing his Kentuckiana OSR Adventure, Capt. Kirk and Jeff took the show on the road to Consignment Boat Sales! They brought Tru Luvin’ Fishing’s Domenic Paniccia with them to talk fishing, boats, and all things outdoors. The weather continued to be a big story, of course, but the GREAT news is that the rain has arrived (for one day, at least)! It’s such a huge relief for those bravely fighting the fires across the region. There was a lot to talk about, and they welcomed in Guy from Consignment Boat Sales to talk about boats (duh), but to have some fun sharing boat ramp stories. Since he’s been there 25 years, he had A LOT of ’em! NOTE: Guy shared his favorite story, and it is one YOU CANNOT AFFORD TO MISS! Here’s a guarantee – you will NOT believe it. Here's your L.V. Mecum Auctions Coming to Glendale: Inside the Collector Car Market with David Purvis We recently welcomed special guest David Purvis to the show to talk about the excitement surrounding the upcoming Mecum Glendale 2026 event coming to Glendale. David's passion for collector cars began early, attending classic car auctions with his father—who was a regular participant at Mecum Auctions dating back to its second-ever sale. That lifelong connection to the hobby eventually led David to join Mecum in 2010, where he began working at the fast-paced “Bid Goes On®” desk, gaining firsthand experience in the energy and excitement of live collector car auctions. In 2011, David moved into a full-time role as a consignment agent, quickly becoming a trusted advisor for collectors looking to buy or sell vehicles at auction. His dedication and leadership earned him a promotion to Director of Consignment in 2023. Today, David oversees Mecum's team of consignment agents within the classic and collector car division, working alongside Frank Mecum. Over the years, he has built strong relationships with collectors by focusing on trust, transparency, and delivering successful auction results. Beyond vehicles, David has also helped bring several significant Road Art® collections to auction, assisting consignors in showcasing and selling rare automotive memorabilia. During our conversation, David also shared insights into what collectors and enthusiasts can expect at the upcoming Glendale auction—from standout consignments to tips for buyers and sellers looking to participate in one of the most exciting collector car events in the Southwest.
Today, we're chatting with Margy McCarthy, a 29-year-old who did something most of us only dream about — she walked away from a corporate career to take over her grandmother's 57-year-old resale business, Elite Repeat. Grandma, Betty started Elite Repeat in 1969 in the Chicago suburbs as a consignment business. For over 50 years, she ran her shop with no website, no social media – just word of mouth, a gift for connection, and an eye for craftsmanship and quality in vintage pieces. All these years later, the regulars who came in with their moms are now coming in with their daughters. Our guest today, Margy, grew up with a front row seat to all of it — doing her homework on a vintage sofa in the consignment room, watching her grandmother and learning early that the real business wasn't the clothes. It was the relationships. On today's show, she'll share how she found her way back to Elite Repeat, as the pull of the business became impossible to ignore. In 2024, she sat down with her grandmother, who is now 92, and made it official. Since then, she's built Elite Repeat's first ever website, grown their audience on TikTok and Instagram, and attracted consignors flying in from the East Coast after finding Elite Repeat through her videos. Margy shares the story of how Betty built Elite Repeat from a single gown to a destination for St. John knits and vintage furs, and – speaking of – we'll get into the craft of vintage fur: how to choose it, how to care for it, and why Margy thinks the renewed interest comes with a real responsibility. And we talk about what it means to carry forward something your grandmother built, brick by brick, for nearly six decades. DISCUSSED IN THE EPISODE: [4:41] After leaving competitive diving, Margy found her interest in fashion rising. [5:06] Margy's early memories of being at Elite Repeat with her grandma. [6:47] How Betty started Elite Repeat in 1969, and grew the business entirely through word of mouth [10:48] How secondhand shopping has shifted over the decades [16:02] Taking the leap to leave her corporate job and take over Elite Repeat [17:24] What Betty taught Margy about running the business [19:22] The relationships at the heart of Elite Repeat [23:24] Expanding Elite Repeat's reach beyond the local community. [26:31] Facing the challenges of taking over — like building the website, learning photography, and navigating people and emotions. [29:10] St. John knits are one of the shop's specialties. [31:16] Elite Repeat has always specialized in vintage furs, and the responsibility behind recirculating vintage furs [34:46] How to pick out an investment vintage fur coat — what to look for [36:04] How to take care of a vintage fur coat. If you're a woman business owner over 40, join the Dear FoundHer... Forum to find support, advice, resources and mentorship—JUST FOR YOU. It's all inside, without the gatekeeping and without the overwhelm. Julie Wainwright knows what it's like to be underestimated, and to prove people wrong. She built The RealReal into a billion-dollar luxury consignment business, then watched from the sidelines as a board she no longer trusted forced her out. But that's only part of the story. In this episode, Julie sits down with Lindsay to talk about what it really means to lead. From the ashes of Pets.com to the early days of The RealReal, Julie explains how she saw an opening in the e-commerce space and moved fast, testing, iterating, and winning customers city by city. She didn't wait for investor buy-in. She mailed postcards. She knocked on doors. She made it work. What convinced early customers to trust her with their Chanel and Prada? What does it take to scale a business from $10 million to $500 million when most investors don't even understand your category? And what do you do when the company you built is no longer yours?Julie shares how strategic partnerships, like an early collaboration with Neiman Marcus, helped put The RealReal on the map. She reflects on the power of in-person experiences, like pop-up stores, and why human connection can drive business in a way digital never fully replaces. Now leading her second venture, Ahara, Julie is focused on precision nutrition and on helping other entrepreneurs find their footing. Her new book, Time to Get Real, is both a memoir and a playbook for anyone building something that feels personal. If you've ever doubted yourself, or felt like others have doubted you more, Julie's story will remind you what's possible when you trust your vision and keep going.Episode Breakdown:00:00 Introduction to Julie Wainwright and The RealReal05:04 From Pets.com to The RealReal: Julie's Founder Story11:29 Building Trust in Luxury Consignment17:43 Raising Capital and Finding the Right Investors22:37 Scaling E-Commerce Through Strategic Partnerships28:14 How Resale Impacts Luxury Markets29:17 Leadership Changes and Boardroom Challenges32:58 Lessons from Entrepreneurship and Gender Dynamics36:48 Starting Over: New Ventures and Growth39:24 Why Nutrition Became Julie's Next Mission43:34 Advice for Aspiring EntrepreneursConnect with Julie Wainwright:http://www.instagram.com/realrealjulieGet on the Marketing Made Simple Waitlist: https://lindsaypinchuk.myflodesk.com/waitlistDear FoundHer Forum: https://www.dearfoundher.com/dear-foundher-forumDon't forget to follow Lindsay on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/lindsaypinchukFollow Dear FoundHer on Instagram: http://www.instagram.com/dearfoundherPodcast production and show notes provided by HiveCast.fm Hosted on Acast.
