How do leaders make sure that obstacles to their personal or organizational growth don't become permanent? Check out the video version of this clip. This clip is from a lengthy conversation Greg and I had about leaders being like gardeners. You can check it out here. In this episode of the Braun Performance & Rehab Podcast, Dan is joined by Lee Applequist to discuss his journey and lessons as a clinician, including opportunities he has explored and created, obstacles he has overcome, the development of ownership and accountability as a clinician, and more. Lee was born in Seoul, South Korea and came to America when he was 10 months old and grew up in Pennsylvania and Tennessee. Upon finishing high school, he started at the community college, prior to earning a Bachelors in Athletic Training from East Stroudsburg University (2012) and a Doctorate in Physical Therapy from Utica College (2016). Lee has practiced in a variety of settings; including the NBA/NBA G-League, Division 1 College Athletics, Military, and physical therapy clinics treating sports and general orthopaedic cases. In addition he has completed internships with Team USA Athletics and the NFL. Throughout his career, Lee has worked as a physical therapist, athletic trainer, and strength and conditioning coach. In addition he has pursued professional development coursework to advance his expertise and expand the clinical skillset. As the Chairman of the Board and CEO of Midwest BankCentre, Saint Louis' second-largest locally owned bank, he has significantly broadened access to capital for local families and businesses. Born in East Saint Louis to a drug-addicted mother who died when he was eight years old, author Orvin Kimbrough chronicles his early years through foster care, orphanages, physical and sexual abuse, hunger, and poverty in his book Twice Over A Man. He could have joined a gang. He could have become a teen father. He could have fallen into drugs and the violence of the streets. He could have ended up in prison. He could have been shot dead. But he rose above it all to become a prosperous leader in the Saint Louis business and nonprofit communities. Instead of succumbing to life on the streets, Kimbrough sought the one thing that would redeem him from that dismal, expected fate-education. This is the story of a young man who, despite all the forces that worked against him, fiercely determined to make a better life for himself and is resolute about showing others the way.Support the showTransforming the workplace one Bible study at a time - GET STARTED today! Trump-era executive orders, police hiring standards, and college admissions all converge in a decades-long debate over disparate impact, one of the most misunderstood yet consequential doctrines in civil rights law. In this episode of Stanford Legal, Professor Ralph Richard Banks, faculty director of the Stanford Center for Racial Justice, joins host Professor Pamela Karlan for a deep dive into how the disparate impact doctrine really works, why it matters, and what's at stake when it's attacked in the name of “meritocracy.” From the landmark Griggs case to modern college admissions, Banks dissects the arguments on all sides—showing how this sometimes-vilified legal doctrine not only helps root out discrimination, but can also strengthen, rather than undermine, meritocracy. This week we have Dr. Stephen Yuille in the studio again. During his last visit, he told us about a reading challenge through George Swinnock's The Blessed and Boundless God. Today, Dr. Yuille and Dr. John Snyder have a broader discussion in mind. Because of his profession and experience, many people ask Dr. Yuille how they can read and benefit more from the Puritans. He sought to develop a concise, systematic, scalable answer to that question. Instead of trying to read as much of Puritan writings as possible, Dr. Yuille encourages us to approach these spiritual giants devotionally. Just read a few pages each day. Reformation Heritage Books Puritan Treasures for Today is a great place to start. These books have been edited and modernized to remove the language barrier so many find difficult to overcome. Dr. Yuille's approach is to take six books and read them across six months. The goal is not quantity of reading but quality. Read the Puritans as they intended their books to be read. Read them with your heart, not just your mind. Meditate on what you read that day. We believe, as Dr. Yuille does, this is wonderful food for your soul and your will benefit by this practice. Each of the books Dr. Yuille suggests starting with are listed below with links to where you can find them. Want a great introduction to the Puritans? In this episode of Skin Anarchy, host Dr. Ekta Yadav sits down with Jenny McCarthy to talk about the personal journey that led her to launch Formless Beauty—a cosmetics brand redefining what “clean beauty” really means. What began as a health transformation for Jenny, prompted by autoimmune struggles and a genetic mutation diagnosis, quickly evolved into a deeper frustration with the lack of transparency in the beauty industry.Formless Beauty was born out of necessity, not trend-chasing. Jenny reveals how she went from frustrated consumer to full-time founder and CEO, dedicating herself to creating products that exclude over 900 questionable ingredients—phthalates, parabens, synthetic fragrances, and more. This isn't a white-labeled celebrity brand; it's a mission-driven line that has earned trust from immunocompromised users, including cancer and lupus patients.Throughout the episode, Jenny breaks down the problems with the current “clean beauty” landscape, including misleading marketing tactics, unregulated terms, and self-appointed certifications. She also calls attention to the alarming rise in young children using full-face cosmetics, urging parents to get educated about ingredients that could disrupt hormonal development.Jenny's passion and leadership are undeniable—from formulating a water-resistant, toxin-free mascara to hosting weekly TikToks to educate her audience. Her story is about advocacy, integrity, and building something she couldn't find on the shelves. Rikki also talks about why remaining optimistic during your search is key to not burning out. Learn more about Rikki's career history below in this installment of our Success Stories series.
