Welcome to the Cookie-Dough Guest mix where we invite some of favourite DJ / Producers to answer a few questions and dig deep into their collections and put together a mix of their favourite records. For this episode we have invited DJ, Producer and friend of the show Liam from All My Friends (Manchester) to put together a mix of records that have influenced him over the years! Nice one Liam! All My Friends (Manchester) Evelyn King - Love Come Down (Dr Packer Remix) Pappa Told Me - Dr Packer Need Ur Love (Feat. Lorrie) - Big Danny Kane Disco love - Hurlee Rock The Discothèque - Ruff Diamond So you wanna be a star - Mannix Come on get up - The Funk District Staying Power (Feat Pete Simpson) - The Reflex Revision Free Bass - Joey Negro Acid Disco - LeonxLeon Sheros - Paulette, Chris Massey 1. What was the first record you bought that made you realise that you wanted to be a DJ / Producer? My route into Dj’ing is quite an odd one. When I was 13 I asked my mum for some decks. The next day she turned up with two Vestax PDX-2000’s which she bought of a bloke in the pub for a tenner each which were definitely stolen. Once I got them they sat under my bed for 6 years until I went to university. During my time at Uni I was big into Hip Hop and rap and the first two records I bought were N.W.A - express yourself and Beastie Boys - Intergalactic. These didn’t really cement my love of DJ’ing through, if I’m honest I had so little knowledge of the fundamentals of DJ’ing mixing hip hop like this was beyond me. Also I didn’t have any counter weights on my turntables for the first year I had them so it was a farce. As I progressed through Uni I started getting exposed to more and more dance music and house and disco really started bending my ear. I knew a former colleague from my bar job growing up who was a successful DJ in Sheffield. I listened to a lot of his mixes and at the end of one of them was the Tom Trago - Use me again. Sheer house euphoria through and through. After hearing that I went out and bought the track instantly and started building a record collection around that song. Up until this day it is still a great marker of the type of sound I like to purvey when DJ’ing, certainly in the club. 2. What record makes you most nostalgic? When I first heard Inspector Norse back in 2012. That was a big moment for me. He was closing room two in Warehouse Project back when it was located in Trafford. When that song came on it really impressed on me how powerful and euphoric dance music can be. That song completely encapsulates my post uni era. I spent two years in a flat above a ‘One Stop’ shop in Withington, bumming around in a kitchen job before I grew up and got a real one. We used to have loads of mad house parties and even built a ball pit in our box room. Although I played it to death a few years ago it still gets thrown on when the occasion calls for it. It’s a track that transports me right back to finishing uni and spending summers bouncing from party to party in Fallowfield before the bill and council finally crushed the place. 3. What is your favourite end of the night track? Do I have to pick one!? That’s so tough. Without sounding like a cop-out it does depend where I’m playing. I’m going to give you a quick list, but, honestly I wouldn’t be adverse to playing these one after another anyway ha. Ten City - The Way Love Is Bronski Beat - Small Town Boy Laurent Garnier - Man With the Red Face Ashford & Simpson - Bourgie Bourgie If I was absolutely pushed to pick one though it’d be a recent release by Jacque Renault. A 7 minute re-edit of Lionel Richie’s All Night Long 4. Do you have a guilty pleasure record? Take that - Never forget never fails to raise the roof. I recently played it and a friends wedding and there was silly scenes and arms in the air. Never forget yeah! 5. What is your most treasured piece of vinyl? Another tough one.

Cookie-Dough Guest Mix 28 with Dave Gerrard Welcome to the Cookie-Dough Guest mix where we invite some of favourite DJ / Producers to answer a few questions and dig deep into their collections and put together a mix of their favourite records. For this episode we have invited DJ, Producer and edit man Dave Gerrard to put together a mix of records that have influenced him over the years! This is one for the house heads. Nice one Dave! A few words from Dave... Nostalgia for me is a powerful emotion triggered, on occasion by music. My track choices are for this reason. Hearing these tracks fire up memories ranging from being in the back of a car, a night at the Hacienda or maybe a warehouse party in Blackburn. Upon hearing the track it’s as if I’m teleported back in time to that moment. This music is from my past, and I consider myself extremely lucky to have been around to experience the birth of Chicago and Acid house, enabling me to travel the length and breadth of the UK, experiencing different clubs, music and above all the excitement that everyone was feeling witnessing how this new music was changing things. So here it is, my mix, a tricky thing to put together because, at the time most of these tracks were made, the term DJ friendly wasn’t a term widely used. Lots of early house a couple and I had to include one of my very first edits also. This is some of the music that made me. Track List Mr Fingers-Can U Feel It. Adonis-No Way Back (Greg Wilson Edit) Orbital-Chime Joe Smooth-Promised Land Marshall Jefferson-Move Your Body South Street Player-[Who] Keeps Changing Your Mind A Guy Called Gerald-Voodoo Ray (A Guy Called Gerrard Edit) Soft House Company-What U Need The Todd Terry Project-Weekend Alison Limerick-Where Love Lives FPI Project-Rich In Paradise Joe Smooth-It’s Alright Q&A What was the first record you bought that made you realize that you wanted to be a DJ / Producer? The first record that made me realise I wanted to become a DJ? That’s a difficult one, it was a long time ago, it was probably Frankie Knuckles-Your Love or Faze II- Reachin’, funnily enough both tracks are a nightmare to try and mix into a set. The first record I bought however was The Wombles-The Wombling Song. What record makes you most nostaligic? There are a few records that make me nostalgic, Pacific State by 808 State, Mr Fingers- Can U Feel it, I used to blast them out in my car on a Sunday evening after Partying all night on the Blackburn Warehouse scene, both tracks are full of emotion. What is your favourite end of night record? I have a few end of night records, Michael Jackson-Don’t Stop Till You Get Enough & Sister Sledge-We Are Family both seem to do the trick, leave em wanting more. Do you have a guilty pleasure record? Guilty pleasures, anything by The Wombles, I nearly started my set with that one. What is your most treasured piece of vinyl? My most treasured piece of vinyl is probably House Sounds of Chicago Vol 1. It was my first house record.
Cookie-Dough Guest Mix 27 with Fingerman Welcome to the Cookie-Dough Guest mix where we invite some of favourite DJ / Producers to answer a few questions and dig deep into their collections and put together a mix of their favourite records. For this episode we have invited Fingerman (aka Gregg Holmes) to spin some of the records that have influenced him over the years. The past two years have seen many releases on a variety of top Disco labels such as Midnight Riot, Get Down Edits, Discodat and Chopshop many of which have received high praise and number one positions at Juno Records and Juno Download. He has also recently branched out opening his own label Hot Digits Music, a Brighton based label that focuses on up & coming producers and well established disco stalwarts alike with the first few releases featuring work from Fingerman himself, Austrailian trailblazer DR Packer, Detroit funky man Pontchartrain and P-Funk rump shaker Tonbe. At Cookie-Dough HQ we are buzzin’ Fingerman has taken the time out of his busy schedule to put together this special mix for us. Nice one G! Track list: Duff Disco - Eagle Flight "Perfect set opener. I rarely go to a gig and not have a cut by Duff. Solid Edit work." Saint Etienne - Only Love Can Break Your Heart (A Mix Of Two Halves) "Andy Weatherall on the mix. Beautiful retro remix" Stone Roses - Waterfall (Justin Robertson Remix) "Huge Roses fan. This remix is lush. Reminds me of my early indie clubbing years" The Orb - Little Fluffy Clouds (Pal Joey 'Cumulo Nimbus' Remix) "The Orb were responsible for my first electronic music experiences. Timeless music" Loose Ends - Hangin' On A String (Fingerman's Edit Of The Frankie Knuckles Mixes) "Utterly brilliant remix of an 80's classic. Frankie did them proud here" A&R Edits - Never Survive (Fingerman's Crazy Edit) "One of my personal favourite edits… Endorsed by Greg Wilson. Bless him!" Happy Mondays - Loose Fit (Fingerman's Up Til Late Edit) "Released on Editors Kuts last year. Always loved this edit… 8. Shockingly not played it out yet!" David Bowie - Golden Years (The Reflex Revision) "Love Bowie. The Reflex does what he does best here" Mercury Rev - Delta Sun Bottleneck Stomp (The Chemical Brothers Mix) "Wonderful track. Very Chems. Very Balearic. Very now" M - Pop Musik (Todd Terje Remix) "Had to include one Terje tune. This is such a fun record!" Bjork - Human Behaviour (Underworld Mix 1) "Also HAD to include one Underworld track. This had all the trademark early Underworld vibes. Ace remix. The Dub was only on vinyl… which is also amazing" Depeche Mode - Enjoy The Silence (Groove Motion Edit) "One hell of a vocal. Groove Motion are a great couple of chaps who make some very useful edits" Metro Area - Dance Reaction (Fingerman Edit) "My second favourite Metro track after Caught Up. A seminal debut album" Whirlpool Productions - From Disco 2 Disco (Original Mix) "Originally got this on the back of the LRD remix that did the rounds back in the day. The Original version is the only one for me due to its off kilter production and hilarious vocal drops. Still sounds great today" Groove Armada - Love Sweet Sound (Extended Original Mix) "Taken from on of their underrated albums this is. Such a great song" Bryan Ferry - Don't Stop The Dance (Greg Wilson & Derek Kaye Remix) "Love Derek & Greg's productions. One of my fave end of session tunes" Fleetwood Mac - Family Man (Flight Facilities Edit) "Had the fortune of seeing The Mac live this year. What an experience that was! So tight for a band knocking on. I could have picked many Mac tunes but this edit is top dollar" Prefab Sprout - Bonny (Leo Zero Edit) "One of my all time favourite edits. The last couple of minutes are to die for!" Q&A What was the first record you bought that made you realize that you wanted to be a DJ / Producer? Tough question!
Cookie-Dough Guest Mix 26 with XL Middleton Welcome to the Cookie-Dough Guest mix where we invite some of favourite DJ / Producers to answer a few questions and dig deep into their collections and put together a mix of their favourite records. For this episode we have invited Californian musician, artist and producer XL Middleton to spin some of the records that have influenced him over the years. Nice one XL! Track list: Above The Law - Kalifornia Ingram - Just For You Dr. Dre feat. Snoop Doggy Dogg & George Clinton - Let Me Ride (Remix) Ice Cube - Who's The Mack Shakatak - Street Walkin' Roy Ayers - Gotta Find A Love Don Blackman - Never Miss A Thing Mtume - Prime Time One Way - Can I Krystol - When You Move You Lose Klique - Inside Me Patrice Rushen - Watch Out Chaz Jankel - Tonight's Our Night Endgames - Desire Thomas Dolby - Dissidents Chuckii Booker - Touch Rhythm & Knowledge - U Bring Da Dog Out Suga Free feat. Snoop Dogg - So Fly Bar-Kays - You Made A Change In My Life Con Funk Shun - By Your Side Eddie Kendricks - Intimate Friends Q&A What was the first record you bought that made you realize that you wanted to be a DJ / Producer? College Boys "Victim Of The Ghetto." It was the record that made me really, finally realize hip hop as a thing beyond just the top 40 stuff like Hammer & Vanilla Ice. In turn, getting deep into what hip hop producers were sampling opened my mind to the point that hip hop became a secondary interest behind all the great funk, soul, etc. that they were pulling from. What record makes you most nostaligic? It's hard to pick just one, but an album that comes to mind off top is Masta Ace's "Sittin On Chrome" album. When I was 13 I played it as I went to sleep every night for an entire summer. Another one is Roy Ayers' "Gotta Find A Lover" which I included in my mix. I discovered it in high school and I just thought it was the most incredible thing I'd ever heard. Hearing it reminds me of the days when I was mining for samples and getting educated on music without really intending to be. What is your favourite end of night record? Hands down, Bobby Nunn's "Do You Look That Good In The Morning?" The humor is so subtle, the melody and chords in the song are so beautiful, it could pass right over your head that he's talking about drunkenly taking a girl home after the club, and hoping that she's still fly when the liquor wears off. Do you have a guilty pleasure record? Even though I don't think there's really any "guilty" pleasures when it comes to music, if I had to choose a song it'd be Nivea's "Don't Mess With My Man." That track is hard and funky. I own doubles! What is your most treasured piece of vinyl? I can't really name just one but I can give you a few and the reasons why. There's my own 12" for "Feel So West Coast," pressed by Japanese label G-House. It's special because it's the first time my music was ever pressed on wax. Also Patrice Rushen's "Watch Out." That song has special personal memories for me. Finally, Krystol's "Gettin' Ready" album. It's not a rare album or anything like that, it's just a record that so perfectly encapsulates the whole 80's funk thing in one statement. Every song is amazing on there. It's what you'd hope every "boogie" album would be.

Chuggin Edits is from Essex near London (And just far enough away from London as he describes) and yes – he’s a Disco-connoisseur. And yes, this is his Cookie Dough Mix. If you haven’t been familiar with the man in charge, his Soundcloud-profile offers you an immense collection of his art and everyone should be able to pic a couple of favorites amongst those. His First ever release on Deep Sense- First Voyage an edit of A Tribe Called Quest was the best selling track on that compilation and they gladly asked him back on the new Deep Sense - 2nd Voyage, so there’s certainly a lot more to be expected from the talented guy in the near future.
