For this month's episode we're deep in the mid 70s to explore the finest glam, country, reggae, funk, rock, folk, afrobeat, prog, pop, avant garde noise, and whatever category you'd chuck Sparks in to. We've each chosen our 10 favourite songs of the year and sent them over to Colin's wife Helen, who put the playlists together and distributed them so we were each given a playlist of the 20 songs from the other two hosts, along with our own 10. We then ranked the playlists in order of preference and sent them back to Helen, who totalled up the points and worked out the order. She also joined us on the episode to read out the countdown, which we found out as we recorded so all reactions are genuine. Now, admittedly, in parts we're a little bit brutal to some of the songs in the list as we're three separate people with differing music tastes, but please remember that to be in this episode at all the songs have to have been in one of our top 10's of that year.Bands featured in this episode include (In alphabetical order, no spoilers here!) - Aerosmith, Banbarra, Black Sabbath, Burning Spear, Glen Campbell, Bob Dylan, Fleetwood Mac, Foghat, Steve Harley & Cockney Rebel, Emmylou Harris, The Hollies, KC & The Sunshine Band, Kiss, Fela Kuti & Afrika 70, Willie Nelson, The Outlaws, Pink FLoyd, Lou Reed, Roxy Music, Paul SImon, Patti Smith, Sparks, Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band, Television, The Tubes, Van Der Graaf Generator, The Walker Brothers, War, Neil Young & Crazy Horse, and Frank Zappa & The Mothers Of Invention featuring Captain Beefheart. Find all songs in alphabetical order here - https://open.spotify.com/playlist/2juBbBjb0YxzF6VMAvNIEi?si=4334ba0599c44034Find our We Dig Music Pollwinners Party playlist (featuring all of the winning songs up until now) here - https://open.spotify.com/playlist/45zfDHo8zm6VqrvoEQSt3z?si=Ivt0oMj6SmitimvumYfFrQIf you want to listen to megalength playlists of all the songs we've individually picked since we started doing best of the year episodes (which need updating but I plan on doing them over the next month or so), you can listen to Colin's here – https://open.spotify.com/playlist/5x3Vy5Jry2IxG9JNOtabRT?si=HhcVKRCtRhWCK1KucyrDdgIan's here - https://open.spotify.com/playlist/2H0hnxe6WX50QNQdlfRH5T?si=XmEjnRqISNqDwi30p1uLqAand Tracey's here - https://open.spotify.com/playlist/2p3K0n8dKhjHb2nKBSYnKi?si=7a-cyDvSSuugdV1m5md9NwThe playlist of 20 songs from the other two hosts was scored as usual, our favourite song got 20 points, counting down incrementally to our least favourite which got 1 point. The scoring of our own list of 10 is now slightly more complicated in order to give a truer level of points to our own favourites. So rather than them only being able to score as many points as our 10th favourite in the other list, the points in our own list were distributed as follows -1st place - 20 points2nd place - 18 points3rd place – 16 points4th place – 14 points5th place – 12 points6th place – 9 points7th place – 7 points8th place – 5 points9th place – 3 points10th place -1 pointHosts - Ian Clarke, Colin Jackson-Brown & Tracey BGuest starring Helen Jackson-Brown.Playlist compiling/distributing – Helen Jackson-BrownRecorded/Edited/Mixed/Original Music by Colin Jackson-Brown for We Dig PodcastsThanks to Peter Latimer for help with the scoring system.Part of the We Dig Podcasts network along with Free With This Months Issue & Pick A Disc.Twitter – https://twitter.com/wedigmusicpcast/Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/wedigmusicpcast/Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/wedigpusicpcast/Find our other episodes & podcasts at www.wedigpodcasts.com

Boffalongo - Dancing In The Moonlight (1970) Even in its nascent form, a pretty magical chorus.  King Harvest - A Little Bit Like Magic (1973) King Harvest - (Take It Easy) Take It Slow (1973)  King Harvest - Wichita Lineman (1971)  The Dells - Wichita Lineman/By The Time I Get To Phoenix (1969) Sammy Davis Jr. - Wichita Lineman (1970) Andy Williams - Wichita Lineman (1969) Johnny Cash - Wichita Lineman (2002) José Feliciano - Wichita Lineman (1971) Ray Charles - Wichita Lineman (1971)  Reg Presley - Wichita Lineman (1969)    Smokey Robinson and the Miracles - Wichita Lineman (1969) Tom Jones - Wichita Lineman (1969) Buddy Emmons - Wichita Lineman (1970) The Meters - Wichita Lineman (1970) Frank Sinatra - You Are The Sunshine of My Life (1974)  Shirley Bassey - You Are The Sunshine of My Life (1974) Ella Fitzgerald and Joe Pass - You Are The Sunshine of My Life (1975)  Swingle Singers - You Are The Sunshine of My Life (1976) Banbarra - Shack Up (1975)  From Discogs: Banbarra is one of those groups that have one really great single and then disappear without a trace. The hard rocking funk band was composed of Joseph "Bunny" Carter and Moe Daniels (née Moses McDaniel). McDaniel had this instrumental track called "Boogie On The Other Side Of Town" and then Carter wrote some lyrics changing the name to "Shack Up" making the tune an urgent plea to forego the marriage ceremony. Using studio session players John Cannon on drums, Lance Quinn on guitar and Steve Moody on bass, they brought that song to life. Once Carter's vocals were done, the producers took charge and decided to use another vocalist, Wesley Adylett instead of Carter, who they felt was not up to the long-term commitment of being in a group. Carter's vocals were scrubbed and Adylett did his take. The finished song was then split into two parts and released on United Artists as a single. Unable to resolve what had happened, Carter quit and took the soul of the band with him. The single was released, and there are claims that it peaked at #4 on the Billboard Club Play Chart, and the Banbarra single is not noted at all in Joel Whitburn's "Hot Dance/Disco 1974 - 2003". The single was forgotten until UK new wave band A Certain Ratio heard it and recorded their version of "Shack Up" in 1981 that peaked at #46 disco. Fat Larry's Band - Down On The Avenue (1976) Harlem Underground Band - Smoking Cheeba Cheeba (1976) Featuring George Benson on guitar.  A Certain Ration - Do The Du (The Graveyard) (1980) Jean Pierre Mirouze - Sexopolis (1971) Antony Rosano: As a film, Le Mariage Collectif will probably not be remembered by history, a fact even admitted by the press release for its soundtrack. As a soundtrack, however, Le Mariage Collectif should go down as something of a minor classic. The story behind the recovery of the album is noteworthy by itself: the music, long forgotten, had been preserved through only a handful of acetate copies, one of which was recovered in a Paris garbage dump in 2010. The mouths of record collectors have probably begun watering from that description alone, but fortunately the score by Jean-Pierre Mirouze is a rightfully resurrected gem. A Certain Ratio - Life's A Scream (1984) Junior Mance - Thank You (Falletin Me Be Mice Elf Agin) (1970) Renaissance - Island (1969)

Cookie-Dough Guest Mix 24 with Chuggin Edits Welcome to the Cookie-Dough Guest mix where we invite some of favourite DJ / Producers to answer a few questions and dig deep into their collections and put together a mix of their favourite records. For this episode we have invited DJ, edit man and disco connoisseur Chuggin Edits to spin some of the records that have influenced him over the years. Nice one Chuggin Edits!   A few words from Chuggin Edits… England seems to be the place to be for Disco-editors. Chuggin Edits is from Essex near London (And just far enough away from London as he describes) and yes – he’s a Disco-connoisseur. And yes, this is his Cookie Dough Mix. If you haven’t been familiar with the man in charge, his Soundcloud-profile offers you an immense collection of his art and everyone should be able to pic a couple of favorites amongst those. His First ever release on Deep Sense- First Voyage an edit of A Tribe Called Quest was the best selling track on that compilation and they gladly asked him back on the new Deep Sense - 2nd Voyage, so there’s certainly a lot more to be expected from the talented guy in the near future. But for now – lean back and enjoy this journey. This mix is a compilation of tracks that have really caught my eye over the last few years and amongst them some great people and friends I have got to know since putting on my edit slippers in June 2014. Recorded in one take on cdj's Track list: 1. fatback is this the future (Chuggin Edits) 2. Banbarra - shack up 3. inland knights - what about us 4. ed wizard & disco double dee - do it one more time 5. Tom vine - dancer 6. imfromull -street called love 7. the roling stones -emotional rescue (buzz compass) 8. rahan - make me hot 9. vinyl addicted and jean claude gavri - a lotta love 10. voodoo whiskey - suck my sausage 11. pontchartrain - monkey see 12. boogiemann and stan tropic - trotting hotly 13. glen adams affair - its just a groove 14. berry juice - a real mother   Q&A What was the first record you bought that made you realize that you wanted to be a DJ / Producer? one of the first 12s i bough back in the mid 80's when house was emerging russ brown - gotta find a way What record makes you most nostaligic? morrilo project - jazz it up the original without the crap extra vocal that made the chart…i first heard this when todd terry played it as his last track when we we exiting the ministry about 5 mins after the last record was played.way back in the mid 90's the whole club turned round and ran back thro the tunnel that linked the bar room too the dark room where todd was playing What is your favourite end of night record? anything fun really this is too hard a question it depends on the event…. there are so many to chose from i cant answer this question but what i may add is what i dont like…and thats the club just finishing with no wind down end of the night song Do you have a guilty pleasure record? wham - everything she wants !!!! is my guilty pleasure   What is your most treasured piece of vinyl? few really one being u2' lemon oakenfield remix on the yellow vinyl / the first pressing of the klfs chill out album which still has the original flyer inside which i bought at a flee market in 1990 for a pound i didnt know what it was then but i certainly do now. the other is the first version of new orders blue monday the one with the holes cut out in the sleeve that was released a year befoer it went chart bound i found this in a charity shop in the mid 90s in mint condition and haggled it from 20p to 10p result !
