French DJ and producer Myd channels club energy into his new work. Myd’s experimental nature led him to lock himself in his studio for a week without access to the outside. This also meant no phone or social media while he live streamed his process (without breaks); fans watched him work, eat, and sleep. That’s how “Song For You”  found its pounding and uplifting house beat. From there the track was kissed by samples, a funk filtered bass line, and creamy vocals by Myd.

My hour started off nice and funky, quickly built up the tempo to cram in a few promos, and ended up with a few dusty disco belters north of 130BPM. Fun times! I was lucky to snag a very special guest for the second hour. French DJ, singer, composer, multi instrumentalist, producer and audio engineer David Baluteau AKA Joi N'Juno. He's another one of my favourite producers, specialising in funky, danceable tunes with African influences. His mix is bloody brilliant - lots of tropical sunshine sounds, some solid nu-disco and housed up worldwide oddities, with a few of his own in there, including a bit of unreleased stuff. Rem's Martinez is a French DJ/producer hailing from the Southwest of France, now based in Marseille. Since his debut in 2014, he has continuously developed his career in electronic music, particularly within the emerging scene commonly referred as Dark Disco or Indie Dance. Electronic music activist since childhood, Rem's Martinez didn't take long to obtain guitars, turntables and learn to master them. In 2015, he co-founded the @garbure-music collective with friends, organizing techno events featuring local and international artists. In 2018, Rem's Martinez joined the @little_family (a crew of DJs from the @little_festival_fr) and began performing at festival stages. Being evidently influenced by indie pop, electroclash and new wave sound of the 1980's, he knows how to embark you in his universe tinged with rock, disco and techno. Lover of groovy and hypnotic sets, Rem's Martinez uses moody vocals and pumping pop synths to not only encapsulate the era but also bring it forward to the present day. Rem's Martinez deliberately plays a retro futuristic and multigenerational musical genre. It's obviously a music for dancefloor!! Rem's Martinez is certainly a voice in both Dark Disco and Italo to keep an eye on and with his high pedigree in production partners having made wonders in the studio. This is the start of a very illustrious career! This year, Rem's Martinez join the Morpheus Agency's roster. His work is available on: @criticalmondayrecords (France), @sideupworks (Spain), @espaciocielo (Spain), @slow-cycle (Argentina), @quixoticalrecords (Argentina / Lithuania), @underthetrees-ofc (Belgium), @riythmica (France), @little_family (France) ⚡️Like the Show? I hadn't realized just how dominant the Rock Dance influence was during this time, but looking back, it was everywhere. Many tracks from that era didn't make it into these two volumes, but one that certainly stands out (next to Kelly Clarkson's “Since You've Been Gone” on Volume 2) is the Jacques Lu Cont Thin White Duke remix of “Mr. Brightside” by The Killers. This song was massive, and you practically couldn't escape it. This period also marked the rise of another French DJ besides David Guetta: Bob Sinclar. Though he'd been honing his craft since the late '80s, it wasn't until this era that he seemingly exploded onto the scene with hits like “Love Generation,” “World, Hold On (Children of the Sun),” and “Rock This Party (Everybody Dance Now).” His meteoric popularity even led to him headlining one of Hugh Hefner's parties at the Playboy Mansion. The event was later released as a two-volume set of House and Disco, aimed at the jet-set crowd. David Guetta, of course, is also in the mix here with some of his early work, including Juliet's “Avalon” and the huge “Love Don't Let Me Go.” As promised, we replaced the rock version of Roger Sanchez's “Turn On the Music” with the Axwell Electro House remix, which was the go-to version at the time. Paul Oakenfold (another 90s mainstay) was enjoying renewed success during this era, hitting #1 with “Faster Kill Pussycat,” featuring the incredible vocals of Brittany Murphy (may she rest in peace). For those wondering where this year's earlier hit “Perfect (Exceeder)” originated — it's straight from this time period, and we've included the Martijn Ten Velden remix, which stays true to the original but is more DJ-friendly. We also have to give major props to Peter Rauhofer (may he rest in peace) for his prolific output during this time. His remixes, which blended Progressive and Electro House, had wide appeal across dance floors. We've highlighted his stellar work on “Beautiful” by Christina Aguilera, “Killer” by Seal, and “Maneater” by Nelly Furtado — all of which hit #1 on the Dance Club charts. While we wanted to include his remix of the Vanity 6/Prince-penned “Nasty Girl” by Inaya Day, we decided it was a bit too much from one producer. Two DJ duos that went on to achieve massive success are Moto Blanco, represented here with Mary J. Blige's “Be Without You” (originally credited as Bobby Blanco), and Freemasons, who shine on Beyoncé's “Deja Vu” and Faith Evans' sassy “Mesmerized” — a personal favorite.

Simon Aussel is known for a particularly wild DJing style and leftfield bassy bangers, and it's his curious and playful approach to clubland that's won him loyal fans over the years. Whether photographing drink tokens from gigs or creating an 8-bit version of his debut album on a Game Boy cartridge, he seems to approach every endeavour with childlike joy and wonder—rare qualities in an industry that can leave so many jaded. The Nantes-born, Paris-based artist's love of club culture, digging and world-building has set him on a blazing path in club music. He's released an exceptionally wide range of music, including a Memphis rap tape for Trilogy Tapes, dubstep-trap-jazz hybrids with Egyptian singer Abdullah Miniawy and deadly hard drum for Livity Sound. His mixes, meanwhile, are fast becoming DJ lore thanks to his knack for connecting seemingly opposed genres like new wave and fast techno. Look no further than his now-infamous Dekmantel Selectors set from 2021 or a marathon back-to-back with Skee Mask in 2022. As the French DJ gets more comfortable with story-telling, he's getting more personal and focusing on deeper, slower sounds. That's evident on this RA Podcast—six months in the works—which incorporates woozy downtempo, weighty dub and bleepy beats. Of course, in the chaotic middle section there's plenty of huge basslines, plus old-school electro, acidic techno and even a bouncy edit of the Montell Jordan classic "This Is How We Do It." Showcasing his quirks, influences and growth, this is Simo Cell in prime time. @simocell Read more at https://ra.co/podcast/934

In Celtic mythology, everyone knows the magical AWEN, but there are disagreements about what it is and, mostly, what it can do. Some believe it's a spirit that gives glimpses of the future, while others affirm it's a symbol of balance between opposites. However, for most people, it is a woman, the muse of creativity - and the artists she touches act like they were possessed. When singer-songwriter AWEN chose this name, she wasn't aware of these implications. But, strangely, she couldn't have picked a better one: she embodies all of these ideas. AWEN has always navigated between distant worlds. Born in Paris from a French mother and a Malian-Senegalese father, she's long been torn between her passion for singing and her successful career in Hong Kong as a lawyer. But when her father passed away in 2016, she decided to give up her job and move back to France to try to become a professional artist. Building upon her cultural heritage and her musical tastes (she grew up listening to artists such as Nina Simone, Bob Marley and Marvin Gaye), AWEN started to produce her unique style of Afro-house. It mixed electronic instrumentation with timeless melodies - and a touch of spirituality. “In Western Africa, our family name has a special perception”, she explains. “It's the name of a legendary sorcerer king; that's why I describe myself as an Afro-house witch”, she laughs, before adding: “but I mostly like the fact that, nowadays, witches have become icons of feminism and freedom.” In 2019, AWEN released her first solo album, Redemption. It was followed by 6 EPs and singles, including collaborations with upcoming afro-house stars such as Floyd Lavine, Daniel Rateuke or Enoo Napa. It includes “Your Voice” with Caiiro (2020), a song that channels raw feelings of faith, love and hope with such intensity that many listeners wondered if the lyrics were about God - AWEN actually wrote them as a letter to her son, who was unborn yet. “Your Voice” gained a cult status that made it unescapable among house fans - with the exception of Adam Port. Strangely enough, the legendary DJ/producer only heard it for the first time two years after its release (!), while he was in a bar in Istanbul. Impressed, he shazamed it and proposed to produce a remix. Released in 2022, his version confirmed the song as a global sensation: it dominated the Beatport charts and took Coachella by storm when AWEN performed it on stage. “My son was born after I wrote “Your Voice” for him”, she says. “All the blessings I get from this song... I feel like they are gifts from him.” With her other hits “Gold” and “Kusimama”, plus a release on legendary label DFTD (“Time”, with Christoph), AWEN's futuristic blend of empowering lyrics and mysterious universe seduces an ever-growing global audience. “My dad came from Africa, my mom is European, and I lived several years in Asia. I feel like I belong everywhere”, she says with a smile. One of the other reasons of AWEN's success is her ability to transcend her repertoire on stage. Standing at 1m83 (6 ft.) with her signature braids and a deep voice, the artist is a commanding presence that captivates concertgoers across the world. “I'm mixing, I'm singing, I'm proposing a visual experience”, she details. “I want my performances to be a whole experience. I want to give Afro House the global visibility it deserves.” It might just be a question of time. Because when your name is a call to the divine, some things are just meant to be. Enjoy this special Journey with talented AWEN including Sabo - Afro Chooz (DJ CHUS Remix) on Redolent ! N/A This show is syndicated & distributed exclusively by Syndicast. Helping me Draw The Line this week, with her guest mix in the second hour, it's La Biche, a French DJ living in Lausanne, Switzerland. She's a member of the Franco-Swiss collective Fast and Technous and she draws inspiration from the liberating energy of techno and her own diverse musical influences. When it comes to the sound of modern-day techno—fast, melodic and polyglot, working in genres like trance and gabber—it's hard to find an artist more clearly representative than Anetha. The French DJ encompasses all these influences with style, landing on a lithe sound that's both heavy and nimble, earning her a first residency at Paris party Blocaus (and, currently, Awakenings and Fuse, among others) and appearances on labels like Work Them and Oaks. What really sets Anetha apart, though, is her commitment to developing and uplifting the artists around her. She launched her own label, Mama Told Ya, in 2019 with a unique and heartwarming concept: each release would highlight an artist, often young or new to the game, and feature one collaboration with Anetha herself. It's a move that turns the usual label-artist dynamic on its head, making each new record a fully-fledged collaboration, and lending her own gravitas to the artist she features. And a year later she started an agency—or what she calls a "creative engine"—to help those artists in a more holistic way. Her RA Podcast is a perfect way to start 2023: with energy and verve, and a perfect balance of light and dark. This is techno at its most creative, dark and discombobulated beats cut through with glowing vocal samples from some of the most recognizable songs of the past five years. If you wanted to explain to someone what techno sounds like in 2023, you'd do well to start here. @anethamusic Read more at https://ra.co/podcast/865

John Easdale of Dramarama has quite an origin story. Local Jersey kid and his high school friends work at a record store and dream of being in a band, they make a record that gets picked up by a French DJ. The record makes its way to Los Angeles and is mistaken by a famous DJ for a French band. Yes, "Anything, Anything" can happen when it comes to rock and roll. We then segue to 1985, the year Dramarama's Cinéma Vérité was released and look at the top 10 year-end songs from KROQ, the radio station that first played "Anything, Anything".  We are a proud member of Pantheon Podcasts

Mael Peneau, better known as Maelstrom, is a French DJ, electronic musician and producer who has been on the forefront of music NFTs and how they can change the economic equation for artists. We talk about his life in France, how he got in to the rave scene and began making his own records. This episode is a companion piece to the wonderfully thorough examination of how non-fungible tokens are changing music that we published on DeCential last month. You can read it here. Maelstrom lays out how the tide is changing after streaming services vastly reduced the ability for musicians to earn money from their songs being played on Spotify or Apple Music. He's no crypto evangelist, however, and is cautious about the challenges ahead. Maelstrom's discography Maelstrom on Soundcloud Follow him on Twitter
