Mini Was A Preteen Arsonist - Martha

Play Episode Listen Later May 17, 2022 20:07

I sat down to pick Nathan Stephens-Griffin brain about the Martha song Mini Was A Preteen Arsonist. Nathan's band Martha released this song on their record Love Keeps Kicking in 2019. One of my favourite songs from the record, I was further intrigued by the song when a friend text me one day to see if I'd watched the documentary on Mini. Upon watching the documentary I thought it was time to speak to Nathan about the song. For me the song, Mini and Nathan all have the perfect combination of beauty, vulnerability and defiance. After the loss of a good friend, The story behind the song has evolved in to something of a love story of friendship, rebelliousness, the north east.Artwork by Suzi Kemp --- https://suzikemp.com/ This podcast was made for a university project. Finally I built up the courage to ask Ellie and Louise Macnamara to be guests on Culture Fear.I got to ask about the evolution of Heathers as a band, which I'm sure if you're a fan of any of their releases you'll understand both in terms of the music they were putting out as well as the way they functioned as a 'band'. I asked about their relationship with music growing up and whether their family holidays really included stop offs at DIY punk festivals and Heathers first shows and Dublin mixed bill punk shows. We went on to talk about how things have looked since Heathers have wound down a bit, and why that was too. And of course loads more too. This was a great time, so I hope you enjoy listening to.
