We're so often told to be nice, to try to meet everyone with kindness even when they aren't kind to us. But sometimes… being a hater is the right answer. Superstar Kendrick Lamar has been running a masterclass on the power of strategic hate, culminating in his showstopping performance headlining this year's Superbowl Halftime. And his success, and the collective enjoyment of it, is a sign of a larger shift of people no longer being willing to play nice with people who wish to do harm to us and our communities. So let's take a closer look at what we can learn from Kenrick and other world class strategic haters. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Two years ago Brody Kenrick embarked on a journey to not just make his late 60s house carbon neutral, but carbon negative. He wanted to make sure his own house had zero carbon emissions and also displace emissions from the grid. Since upgrading his own home Kenrick has also decarbonised his son's preschool, his parents' house, and his in-laws. They all now make big savings on their energy bills. While he admits being a trained electrical engineer and tech savvy has been an advantage, and he and his wife were fortunate to have the upfront capital, Kenrick says many of the energy upgrades they did can be achieved by other people. He hopes his house will be a ‘proof of concept' for others who want to electrify and decarbonise.

(Airdate 12/3/24) The phone lines are percolating and the topics are timely. Why did Ice Cube say he was Kendrick before Kendrick was Kenrick? Green death. If you are involved with dirt track racing, you may be familiar with this terminology. Apparently, after chatting with Emily and Kenrick (my future brother-in-law) about their racing dreams and goals, certain engine types cannot be stored and forgotten about during the winter. After eating hamburgers and hotdogs at Ethan's 2nd birthday party, Kenrick told me about how his car sat out for too long and it wouldn't start the other night. He got right to work on the carburetor. (If you are like me and didn't know what a carburetor does, I googled it for us. It's used to mix fuel and air together before sending the mix into the engine cylinders for ignition, powering the vehicle.) Since he is running an alcohol engine, it has the ability to develop an algae mold substance in the carburetor that could tear up the engine.Often, we forget that we are running a really expensive engine...our bodies. Similar to Kenrick's racecar requiring alcohol as fuel, our body needs fuel to run properly. The fuel we put into our body has a direct correlation to our health and performance. Another aspect of this lesson I learned from my racing friend, is that we have to rev up our engines. Sometimes, we have to move our bodies and get our heart rate up. What this does, is increase our immune system and burns off some of that green sludge of death (viruses and bacteria.) You essentially sweat it out. We hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving with friends and family. If you have questions, concerns, or even prayer requests regarding your fitness goals; feel free to email us back. And my challenge to people is like, well, just pick something and you don't have to do that work forever. It's just going to be for a period of time. Like you need to create some momentum and some traction.” - Ryan Koral “I think it's Blair Enns says something about a creative sees 10 doors and wants to open every single one. But niching down is going into that door, that one door, and just finding that there are actually 10 more doors behind that one door.” - Kenrick “If you feel like, ‘I'm just afraid of having a niche because I don't want to get stuck doing the same old thing,' that's not how you're wired. You're not going to do the same old thing. You're going to think of new things. And it's going to challenge you. fWotD Episode 2516: 1876 Scotland v Wales football match Welcome to featured Wiki of the Day where we read the summary of the featured Wikipedia article every day.The featured article for Monday, 25 March 2024 is 1876 Scotland v Wales football match. The 1876 association football match between the national teams representing Scotland and Wales was the first game played by the latter side. It took place on 25 March 1876 at Hamilton Crescent, Partick, the home ground of the West of Scotland Cricket Club. The match was also the first time that Scotland had played against a side other than England. The fixture was organised by Llewelyn Kenrick, who had founded the Football Association of Wales (FAW) only a few weeks earlier in response to a letter published in The Field. Advertisements were placed in several sporting journals for Welsh players, or those with more than three years residence in the country, to come forward and the Welsh team was selected after trial matches were held at the Racecourse Ground in Wrexham. The FAW selected the side and Kenrick was appointed captain for the fixture. As the more experienced team, Scotland dominated the match and had several chances to score in the first half. They had a goal disallowed after scoring directly from a corner kick, before taking the lead after 40 minutes through John Ferguson. In the early stages of the second half, Wales attempted to play more openly to find a goal, but the Scottish side took advantage of their opponent's inexperience and scored two further goals. The first was a rebound off the goalpost which was converted by Billy MacKinnon; the second was headed in by debutant James Lang. Scotland added a fourth through Henry McNeil and claimed a victory in front of a crowd of around 17,000 people, a record for an international fixture at the time. The two nations have met frequently since this first match, playing against each other every year in friendly matches until 1884 when the British Home Championship was introduced. The competition was an annual tournament, and Scotland and Wales played a fixture against each other every year until 1984, apart from when competitive football was suspended during the First and Second World Wars. In total, the two sides have played more than 100 matches against each other since the first meeting. This recording reflects the Wikipedia text as of 01:08 UTC on Monday, 25 March 2024.For the full current version of the article, see 1876 Scotland v Wales football match on Wikipedia. This podcast uses content from Wikipedia under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike License.Visit our archives at wikioftheday.com and subscribe to stay updated on new episodes.Follow us on Mastodon at @wikioftheday@masto.ai.Also check out Curmudgeon's Corner, a current events podcast.Until next time, I'm Geraint Standard.

Doug is a Professor at Arizona State University, author and his books integrate social psychology, evolutionary biology, anthropology, and economics. There is no denying that the world is a challenging place and it might surprise you to know that whilst we have evolved as human beings, the actual hardwiring which governs our behaviour, emotions, how we see the world, along with threats, opportunities and stuff that makes us feel good hasn't. Which is why our operating system struggles from time to time. In this episode of the podcast, Dr. Ryan Moyer speaks with professor of psychology Dr. Doug Kenrick about human motivation and his newest book, co-authored with his son, David Lundberg-Kenrick, entitled Solving Modern Problems with a Stone-Age Brain. They discuss meaningful differences between the environment of our ancestors vs the modern world, why having too much can be as bad as having too little, the necessity of community, and how we can leverage our ancient instincts to be happier and thrive in a global community. Why Do We Do That? is a psychology podcast that deconstructs human behavior from the perspectives of social scientists, psychologists, and others that use applied psychology in their work. For nearly 30 years Sweetwater Organic Community Farm has educated Tampa residents about easy farming techniques, by inviting them to plant and harvest crops alongside their neighbors. Everyone from kindergarteners to senior citizens are welcome to come and learn how to care for plants and animals from the community that has kept the farm thriving all this time. On today's episode we talk with Chris Kenrick, the farm's Director, and learn why it's so important that more people become farmers, even if that just means growing a few plants in their own backyards. Knowing where your food comes from, and feeling pride in having grown it yourself is important, but even more important is the connection it fosters between yourself, nature, and the community around you. Our episodes are also fully video recorded now! Today I'm speaking with David and Douglas Kenrick about their new book "Solving Modern Problems With a Stone-Age Brain: Human Evolution and the Seven Fundamental Motives". Douglas Kenrick is a professor of psychology at Arizona State University. His research and writing integrate three scientific syntheses of the last few decades: evolutionary psychology, cognitive science, and dynamical systems theory. He is the author of over 170 scientific articles, books, and book chapters, the majority applying evolutionary ideas to human cognition and behavior. David Lundberg-Kenrick is the Media Outreach Program Manager at Arizona State University. He creates multimedia supplements for psychology textbooks, produced and edited videos for use in psychology experiments, and worked on documentaries about evolutionary psychology, including the BBC's “The Science of Seduction” and his current project “The Caveman Goes to Hollywood.” Thank you for watching and being an inquisitive being.
David Lundberg Kenrick is the Psychology Program Manager at Arizona State University and Douglas Kenrick is a Professor of psychology at Arizona State University. Our brains were designed to exist in a very different environment to the one they find themselves in. Managing modern problems with stone-age operating systems causes us to act in strange, suboptimal, silly ways. Which is why it's so important to understand how our minds developed. Expect to learn just how violent humans were ancestrally, why more people die of obesity than starvation in 2022, whether dominance or prestige is more important at getting ahead, whether ancient humans felt love the same way we do now, why human females go through menopause, the relationship between dominance and attraction and much more...
