Kenny, Sydney and T. Lee welcome in special guests and discuss an array of topics that matter in urban culture. It's always high energy, fun, refreshing and enlightening. The squad is not afraid to put anything #OnWax
dope podcast, love u guys, listening to y, accents, vibes, y'all, dialogue, great topics, social media, black, stumbled, music, speak, chemistry, look forward, funny, check, perspective, nice, great show.
Listeners of GOOD CULTURE PODCAST that love the show mention:As we enter into the Thanksgiving holiday, we have much to be thankful for and to celebrate, but last week was trying. Be thankful for your family and friends, good people.
For the second consecutive week, an all new episode of the Good Culture podcast has been released. This week we get into Silk Sonic, DaBaby acting like a baby, Rick Ross' usher board look and the latest episode of Insecure.
We're back. Again. But nah forreal this time. Not like Lawrence and Condola back, like Jordan back.We still toxic, though.
We recap Super Bowl weekend (2:32) and dive into Malcolm & Marie (17:45). We also discuss Mike Todd’s (33:08) unfortunate sermon delivery and get into new Music from Cardi B and Pooh Sheisty.
The calendar turned 21 (2:07) so we drinkin!!! You know how we get down when it’s a new year, 2020 reviews and 2021 predictions (6:00). We’ve already lost an icon in 2021 and we pay our respects to Cicely Tyson (42:50). The conversation takes a wild turn thanks to some troubling allegations coming out of Atlanta (47:08), but not all challenges are bad, despite what some fu** boys may have to say (54:25).
It’s been a long time but damn it, episode 100 of the Good Culture Podcast is here and we are officially in celebration mode! But just because we’re celebrating doesn’t necessarily mean the whole city should break out the champagne or the D’usse slushes for that matter (10:08). Twerk or not, everybody’s most confused mixtape artist dropped another tape and we still don’t know how to feel (28:08) , you tell us! In other news, one of our comedic legends is in a sticky contract but should our morality be challenged in the process (33:06)? Should Nate Robinson ever lace up another pair of gloves (38:54)? The Grammy’s brought they messy ass on back , but should we give AF as much as these artist do? (46:34). All this and more in “1 Hunnid”. PS: The Trap is back and we can’t wait. Pull up and celebrate! It’s champagne all week!
We were all out trying to make the best of MDW 2020: Pandemic Edition, minding our business, being black and excellent. Wunna (11:29) was providing the vibes for the most normal feeling weekend in what felt like a year. Grills were smoking, red cups were flowing. We were on pace to have a beautfiul weekend closed out by 112 vs. static, oops, Jagged Edge (17:24). The good life. And then Lana Del Ray had a question for the culture (29:15). We never recovered. Doja KKKat went under a sheet instead of between them (35:58) and then a Karen (59:25) showed up and showed her rabid white ass. Who knew that Molly (1:06:40) and ole freak ass Andrew would be the peace our weekend needed? Spoiler alert!!! And then we had THE wildest close (1:24:48) to an episode in this podcast’s storied history.
We last got in the studio to record on March 9th, 2020. We had no idea Big Rona was about to fuck up our respective worlds. Y’all knew about some big changes that were coming for the Good Culture family, but in the quarantine (2:11), we’ve done more than sit on our asses. Syd’s been on her skin care queen shit, but it’s still hard out here for a single baddie godmother swearing off pandemic peen (10:30).Despite a virus kicking the rest of the world’s ass, it’s still not a bigger threat to black people than racism (21:55). But despite our losses, we’ve found plenty of content to enjoy (34:54). Is #blackAF really black AF (48:38)? Did T. Lee tend to his family the last five Sunday evenings (1:01:40)? Did any of us lose our best friends over some fuck shit (1:18:13)?But still we rise!! You knew the culture would find a way to shine through all of this. The Verzuz (1:35:18) battles have been historically refreshing and fun and we are grateful for the great contributions we’ve celebrated. The toxic kings have also been on a run. This toxicity came in the form of songs (1:47:24). And last but not least we handed out quarantine superlatives (1:57:05). Be sure and cast your vote in the comments on IG.And then we talked our shit. Fuck it mask off.
Megan Thee Stallion, Lil Uzi Vert and Jhene Aiko walk into a bar…..called Tate’s. They go into this bar on a Sunday at Noon. Megan feels right at home and even tells DJ Nitecrawler to play her new EP “Suga”. Lil Uzi does his best Young Thug impression and gets a couple tracks off of Eternal Atake put in the rotation. And Jhene is just a vibe wherever so she’s good too. Da Baby gets flewed in and he punches in as well, not into anyone’s face or anything so it’s all good. A white moderate got a little too comfortable and had to leave. Luckily she did, because the place was at capacity and she made just enough room for a special guest appearance from Drake and Lil Yachty. The joke’s on you if you’re not at Tate’s Sunday.
In this episode we discuss Lil Baby’s new album “My Turn” along with the Drake releases from the weekend. Meg got a little situation with her record label, but another queen is having to fight a battle as well. After we get through all that, the episode title will make sense.
Rollies over land, pussy ashes for sale, cancel all dog face bitches and selfish birds. We’ll put it all in context.RIP Pop Smoke
It’s still perfect attendance over here, bruh bruh. We in the studio discussing All Star weekend, the Wade family and TIP seeks marriage advice (?) from Boris Kodjoe.
When’s the last time you did something four times in a row? Now that your mind’s out of the gutter, come enjoy this podcast. We get into the Gayle King debacle, discuss new music and make plans for 2/14. It’s time to decide if you’re in a fourteen situation or you got a fifteen fling.
We weren’t quite gone off the rose’ daniels, but we were definitely preparing to leave. But a championship level podcast pushes through. We have an early contender for rap album of the year, one that should never have been released and some tough conversation about the business side of the industry. In the neighborhood talk portion of the podcast, it’s hot swirl summer with a chance for toxicity.
“Be sad. Be mad. Be frustrated. Scream. Cry. Sulk. When you wake up you will think it was just a nightmare only to realize it’s all too real. You will be angry and wish for the day back, the game back, THAT play back. But reality gives nothing back and nor should you.”
Happy Thanksgiving, Merry Christmas, Happy New Year and Happy ratchet flyer weekend good people!!! We been out here lifin’ but it’s time to feed the streets. This episode is mad wild, son (daughter is not the lingo here so miss us), so just prepare your ears. Who knew some resolutions, poor predictions and new predictions would get us to this ghetto ass place? Salut.
We been busy. New nuptials, new balls, new babies. Life has been lifin’ but it was time to get back in the studio and do what we do best. In this episode we discuss the Facebook Chicken Sandwich and Kanye’s new album with the press run to match. TI is saying dumb shit again so he made the podcast too. Be sure to catch the end of this episode as major cloth talk happened in the shit talking portions of the episode.
It's our 80th episode. We can sit on the mothers' pew at church now. But instead of giving out old, crusty and half melted pieces of strawberry candies, we got some good podcasting for y'all. DaBaby dropped his album, 69 probably ratted us out by the time this drops and Fantasia did Fantasia stuff. Let's pray that justice is served for Botham Jean and RIP to Andre Emmett.
Some very good dialogue from the REVOLT Summit led to some good podcasting in Oak Cliff, TX. We shared our thoughts and opinions on some of the topics from that vivid panel discussion. Next we got into Kanye’s album announcement and how we feel about it. Is it a cult or nah? Not to be outdone, Meg sealed her hot girl summer with a big boss move so we stanned a young queen real quick. Fellas, face it they won. And lastly we discuss how life’s a trip but Lyfe’s just trippin. Freaky ass boy. I wouldn’t know a thing!
August went ahead and lived up to expectations on us. We celebrating birthdays, the hot girls and chicken sandwiches. We beefin over black progression for whatever reason though. In the midst of it all, we got some new music, from trash to great or a flicker to five flames we got y’all covered. Now let’s get into this culture shit.
We finally got the long awaited answer many had pondered. Is there a white Twitter? It appears so. We discuss KRIT’s new album and Jermaine Dupri’s comments on the state of women’s rap. We not sure y’all gone like the rest. It’s love though!!!
Fresh off a holiday weekend, the scoreboard indicates that it is indeed a #HotBoySummer. The queens, in need of a regroup, did get outstanding performances from LaLa and Halle Bailey. The FBMA prayed over Brother Melo and also gave praise to Lil Nas X. And we got new music from Dreamville and Chris Brown.
Everybody byke, everybody sober. After a brief status update on the hot girl summer, two faithful black men join the baddie godmother in a discussion on Gucci Mane, Trina, Lil Nas X, Cardi B and Nicki Minaj. We also share our thoughts on the Lavar Ball ban and Dwayne Wade being a stand up father. We’ll see y’all this week.
With Sydney in Atlanta doin’ hot girl shit, we bring the rest of the Good Culture editorial team into the studio to join the discussion. Lauren and Kam sit down with us as we chop it up on new music and new bullshit. With heightened levels of light skin, the discussion takes on a life of it’s own. It’s all love though, and it always should be.
Bangers & Brunch is officially a DDD holiday and The Southern Classic was a major success, but it’s time to get back on wax. While we were handling business away from the studio, we got a lot of good new music. We touch on the albums we feel were standouts during this time period. Hit us up if we missed any. Also, we weigh in on Ayesha Curry’s comments from her feature on Red Table Talk. We also weigh in on the disappointing news surrounding The Chi star Jason Mitchell.
In this episode, we discuss some unfortunate community related news and the beef between TIP and Kodak. Once we leave the bullshit portion of the show, we get into the groundbreaking Homecoming documentary that the queen dropped off on us. Speaking of queens, one was recently take off the market unbeknownst to some folks. We then talk our shit about Bangers & Brunch, a history making event hosted by Good Culture, being May 4th at Wits End.
We pay tribute to Neighborhood Nip. Rest in power, king.
After a few quiet weeks in the culture, the gang pulled up in strong fashion to discuss some bullshit that hit very close to the homefront. While it was bigotry that brought us to the studio cave this week, we got in our bag on some more pressing issues. Your childhood may or may not be threatened, your favorite R&B artist from north of border decided to “bridge the gap” and your favorite rapper from the Carolina’s just got a makeover, let him live!
The culture has been lowkey too quiet lately but we had some shit to talk. Syd was fresh off St. Patrick’s festivities. This episode is the result of those two facts.
2 Chainz punched in with a masterful project, Rap or Go To The League, and we weigh in with our thoughts and opinions. We also share our takes on Solange’s When I Get Home. Offset didn’t quite get it right musically, but we definitely support your growth, king. Tell your story. #FreeTristanThompson!!!!
We welcome DeVon Franklin into the studio for a discussion about his path to ministry, his work in the entertainment business and his new book The Truth About Men.DeVon Franklin is an award-winning film and TV producer, New York Times best-selling author, international speaker, and spiritual success coach. A recognized authority on spirituality, faith, and the entertainment business, DeVon is one of the youngest executives in Hollywood history. BeliefNet named DeVon one of the “Most Influential Christians Under 40.” Variety Magazine called him one of the “Top 10 Producers to Watch.” Ebony Magazine named him one of the “Top 100 Influential African-Americans in America.” He’s been interviewed by Oprah, Dr. Oz, Steve Harvey, Dr. Phil, CNN, and featured in numerous radio, print, and online appearances. You can join in on the discussion tonight as Good Culture’s Kenny Reeves sits down with Devon and CNN’s Yodit Tewolde to dicuss The Truth About Men. The event will take place at Paul Quinn College and will begin promptly at 7 PM. Early arrival is strongly suggested.
In our 65th episode, we recap the Grammys and review the winners, snubs and flat out misses. We also discuss the week in culture from TI dissing Floyd to Nicki dismissing BET. Cardi and Bruno gave us another collab so T. Lee should be a lot of fun. Don’t let them take your integrity, my babies, it’s your favorite African-Americans recording podcasts.
We try our damnedest to understand Savage the 21st’s legal troubles and weigh in with our opinions. White people are still cuttin’ up so our issues with Liam and Gucci get…taken…to wax. But not all hope is lost, Nicki rapped real bars, black banks step into the spotlight and black girls are creating dope art. Full disclosure this was recorded pre-Grammys.
We cover a myriad of topics from stand up comedy to surprisingly good rap beefs. White folks gone white folks so we address some disturbing bullshit that didn’t have to be. But us gone us as well so we also discuss another cultural candidate and what that means moving forward. Kam also got his shots up lol.
We had a busy week in the culture loaded with music from some artists you already know and some you should get to know. We’re on bitchassness alert in LA and when you’re only 20, you can potentially ruin someone’s life all because you got drunk. But bullshit to the side, we try to gain some understanding of our potential Presidential candidate and how she may have a chance to affect positive change alongside Hov and Meek.
The episode where we discuss Future’s album and his family issues?! The episode where we rationalize Rae Sremmurd’s break up?? The episode that’s named after Big Draco’s interview?!! Big booty women on boats and Big Mac’s??! CULTUUUURE?!?!!!
We welcome Pete Freedman into the studio cave for an in-depth discussion on Dallas, his journey to founding Dallas’ most reputable online media alternative and some of the details of covering some of the city’s most shocking developments. Pete is the Co-Founder, President and Editor of CentralTrack.com, a Dallas onlne media alternative founded for the city’s millennial. Central Track prides itself on providing coverage tailored to serve the city’s underrepresented demographics and informing others about the lives and stories that matter to them. Super dope interview.
So it turns out that there was some leftover trash from a particular R&B singer and new trash from some people connected to him. We even have to revisit the covering/lid war of 2018 because…..trash there too. We then reach the trash debatable portion of the episode which will probably resurface at some point. Not all things culture were negative this week, though, thus the name of this episode.
We discuss our 2019 resolutions and make some 2019 predictions. As #KickbackOnWax proved, the energy you start the year with can cost you!! We also discuss the king of trash, R. Kelly.
The Good Culture Podcast goes into the studio cave with Dallas’ most lit vegan chef Brandon Waller, owner of Bam’s Vegan. We discuss the whys, how to’s and rewards of his journey to being vegan and also his journey as a chef. He also shared the rewards of being able to use his platform to serve the culture and to enlighten people about the benefits of a healthy lifestyle. But it’s the Good Culture podcast, so it wouldn’t be right if we didn’t touch the culture just a little bit. You can follow him at @bamsvegan on all platforms and we hope y’all will meet us at the Dallas Farmer’s Market this weekend (Sat 9A - 5P, Sun 10A - 5P) to try a few of these amazing recipes.
Controversy stepped tew this week in the culture, much of it surrounding Kulture’s parents. Now keep in mind this episode was recorded prior to Offset becoming Midset, but we give our thoughts on the Sets (the B’s??) and we wish them happiness and blessings moving forward. Kodak had his spat with Ebro which led to some scandal. He also dropped off his new project, Dying to Live, which we discuss in this episode. Then some random woman many people are unaware of told gospel legend Pastor John P. Kee to “…shut up and preach.” Y’all wilin, fam. Keep up the good work, Krit.
We discuss Gucci Mane’s new album Evil Genius, as well as give our thoughts on the culturally relevant Grammy nominations. We also get into Cardi B’s divorce announcement and Kevin Hart’s roller coaster week. More details on #KOW are also made available so be sure to get all of that (II) !!!
Calico Syd was out living her best life this weekend (HBD, Sydney!!!) so we made the easy decision to bring in more family. Good Culture’s own Lauren Whiteman (@itsmewhiteman) joins the discussion with Kenny and T. Lee as we discuss Meek’s new project and other stories surrounding his album.
It was a pretty full week for the culture. We lost the beautiful Kim Porter, a pastor did or didn’t lose his mind and our own Kenny Reeves got to sit down with a cultural icon. We also got a lot of new music this weekend and learned about the extracurricular talents of another artist. We want to know how y’all feel about the topics too!! Join in on the conversation via our comments section or on social media!!
It was a very exciting weekend for the Good Culture family and there was no better way to cap it off than welcoming in a very special guest.
So we’re back from homecoming break and back on our bullshit. This episode is pretty damn wild.
Fifty is a pretty good thing no matter where you apply it. Buying a soda, field goals, age, money, podcasts. Yeah we said podcasts. You are now listening to a podcast that’s old enough to grill at the family reunion. We’re also old enough to leave Thanksgiving whenever we feel like it. In all seriousness, the GC+ Podcast is appreciative of how far we’ve come. We’re excited about where we are going to go. The good people have been family the whole time and we wouldn’t change that for nothin’. Now let’s get into this culture sh*t.
On this episode we discuss a big weekend in music centered around the releases of Quavo, Ella Mai and Usher. We also get into a fool sitting in the lap of a bigger fool. Also, we got Episode 2 of “The Shop” featuring Drake. Keep positive energy, good people.
This is what happens when one of us is drunk, one of us is on a high and one of us is trying to stay unwashed. And all of this is without a script.
Just when you think your past is over, here it comes stumbling back through the door. How do y’all deal with a case of the ex? Also, we got y’all covered on your fair hoppin’. There’s levels to this, know how to play the field. Don’t do Fletcher’s with a cotton candy date.
