Klippen i programmet är hämtade från: ABC News, NPR, CNBC, Red Table Talk, Ljudboksversionen av Moores självbiografi Inside Out, Touchstone Pictures, The Late Shows Youtubekanal, Mubi, AP, Entertainment Tonight, Movieclips

When life shatters in unimaginable ways, how do we hold on to hope and grace? How do we move forward when we are the ones who made the mistake? In this profoundly moving episode, Catherine explores a story that speaks to the heart of every parent and believer. Jennifer Eikenhorst—a devoted mother, teacher, and woman of faith—shares the day that changed her life forever. A simple left turn resulted in a tragic accident, taking the life of an innocent man. Mistakes are inevitable. Some are small, and others change lives forever. No one escapes the reality of human error. But in these moments, we face a choice: to live in condemnation or receive the grace that God freely gives. Through raw honesty, Jen shares her journey of surrender—how she learned to accept God's mercy, extend grace to herself, and become a vessel of healing for others. Nedra Glover Tawwab is the author of the New York Times bestsellers Drama Free and Set Boundaries, Find Peace and I've had her on this show to talk about the messages in both of those books. Boundaries specifically is an area I greatly struggle with. Nedra is a licensed therapist and renowned relationship expert and has appeared as an expert on The Red Table Talk, The Breakfast Club, Good Morning America, and CBS This Morning, to name a few. She has a popular Instagram account @nedratawwab with over 1.8 million followers and recently spent a year posting what she called, daily nuggets, with the goal of uplifting, supporting and guiding her audience deeper into themselves. But what she revealed was that her primary muse was herself. These writings were what she needed to hear and hold onto for herself. She created a book from the entire year called, Consider This: Reflections For Finding Peace. The book has no chapters and is more like a daily devotional for peace. As you'll hear at the top of our discussion, I feel like the book is an antidote for anxiety. I literally started at the first page and just started pulling out topics that resonated with me. We covered topics such as being aware of the energy we feel from others and guarding ourselves against negative energy. The benefit of making new friends and questioning some of our old friends. Paying attention to the signs when our peace is eroding and Nedra talked about an eye twitch she gets that's a tell tale sign for her.. When it's appropriate to share about yourself. The difference between a grudge and a boundary. When is anxiety warranted? I think you'll be inspired and equipped. Slam the Gavel welcomes filmmaker, Ginger Gentile to the podcast. Ginger is a filmmaker, speaker and coach. Ginger is passionate about using her skills to help people and make a difference in this world. Educating, raising awareness, Ginger has used story telling to inspire others. Committed to helping families heal through and after divorce and trauma, Ginger has appeared on Red Table Talk, Bravo, SXSW, NBC and other podcasts. Since "Erasing Family," came out in 2020 (can be found free on YouTube). Ginger has dealt with high conflict divorce, trauma and Parental Alienation. Her first film, "Erasing Dad," in 2014 was censored in Argentina, making front page news as well as forcing her to leave the country. Fathers suddenly came out of nowhere to talk about how they couldn't see their kids. At that time, in Argentina, mothers primarily had full custody. After her film came out, Argentina has since changed the law, allowing joint custody and no more gender bias in the law. Ginger came back to the U.S. and found that a lot of mothers couldn't see their kids and that's it's more about money. The kids themselves, as young as seven were on social media talking about how they couldn't see a parent or a sibling. This is when Ginger made the film, "Erasing Families." It is a powerful film that does show happy endings. Since "Erasing Family," came out in 2020 (can be found free on YouTube). Parents started contacting Ginger asking for help. Ginger began transitioning out of filming and has trained with Bill Eddy at the High Conflict Institute and is working with the worse cases of divorce and Parental Alienation. Ginger has dealt with and is helping parents who are suffering through high conflict divorce, trauma and Parental Alienation. Ginger explains her how her coaching is helping others and offers the advice that it's never too early to get help and changing the communication style with the co-parent is helpful. Ginger also offered how she has reunited parents with their children. This time she arrives at A Little Bit Culty fresh from publishing her newest book: It's Not You: Identifying And Healing From Narcissistic People. (We read the advanced copy and it blew our minds.) Dr. Ramani wants you to know that thriving after—or even during—a narcissistic relationship can be challenging, but it is possible. Trigger Warning: loss, suicidal ideation Jennifer is a wife, mother of four, and an educator who is passionate about helping struggling students. One evening on a routine run to pick up her child, she collides with a motorcyclist. Despite her desperate prayers and efforts made, he passes away. Everything begins to unravel and life as she knew it was falling apart, her identity, faith and mental health. She battles the voices of guilt and whispers of shame and countless questions without hope of answers on this side of heaven. In this episode Jennifer shares: A bit of her faith walk The night of the accident and praying for a miracle The unimaginable loss, shock and facing the possibility of prison Her rock solid faith being shaken for the first time How God moved through people and circumstances A vision in a church service God gave her of David in heaven and a word from God Fully surrendering her fate and trusting it to God before her court decision Learning about "cities of refuge" found in the Bible Being called to share her testimony for the first time and its effect Being led to serve in a ministry to help others who are seeking hope after causing accidental death or injury "I will tell you, in those darkest, scariest places, have hope for the day because God has a plan. The work done on the cross was meant for you too. That there is nothing, absolutely nothing, that can separate you from the love of God that he is in complete control. He will give you perfect peace and if you trust him, he will make those things work out for good." -Jen Eikenhorst In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans. And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for God's people in accordance with the will of God. And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. Today's episode is sponsored by BetterHelp. We made you a mixtape of some of our fave segments from our full episodes with Daniel Shaw, LCSW, Dr. Ramani, and Dr. Natalie Feinblatt. Think of this as our Chicken Soup for the Culty Soul power-medley. We've got Dan Shaw dropping knowledge on why traumatizing narcissists are so…traumatizing. We've got Dr. Ramani on how to recover from narcissistic abuse. And we've got Dr. Natalie Feinblatt on Trauma, Addiction & Cult-Informed Therapy. It's practically a super group! Pull up a box of tissues, and get ready for all the feels. If you've heard these chats before when they were first born as full ALBC episodes, we still think you'll get some good nuggets out of them. And yes, we love the word ‘nugget' in any form in a way that may border on problematic. We'll be sure to talk to our therapist about that. NOTES: Daniel Shaw, LCSW is a psychoanalyst in private practice in New York City and in Nyack, New York. He originally trained as an actor at Northwestern University and with the renowned teacher Uta Hagen in New York City, and later worked as a missionary for an Indian guru. His eventual recognition of cultic aspects of this organization led him to become an outspoken activist in support of individuals and families traumatically abused in cults. Simultaneous with leaving this group, Dan began his training in the mental health profession, becoming a faculty member and supervisor at the National Institute for the Psychotherapist in New York. His book, Traumatic Narcissism: Relational Systems of Subjugation, was published by Routledge in 2014 and was nominated for the distinguished Gradiva Award. In 2018, the International Cultic Studies Association awarded him the Margaret Thaler Singer Award for advancing the understanding of coercive persuasion and undue influence. Shaw's book Traumatic Narcissism and Recovery: Leaving the Prison of Shame and Fear will be published by Routledge in 2021. Dan joined Sarah and Nippy to share his story, drop some knowledge about the shameless ways of traumatizing narcissists, and provide insights on the recovery process. Dr. Ramani Durvasula is the author of two books on the subject: Should I Stay or Should I Go: Surviving A Relationship with a Narcissist and Don't You Know Who I Am?: How to Stay Sane in an Era of Narcissism, Entitlement, and Incivility. Her work has been featured at SXSW, TEDx, the Red Table Talk, the Today Show, and Investigation Discovery. You can also find her on her wildly popular YouTube channel where she dispenses wisdom on protecting yourself from hoovering, gaslighting and other narc trademarks. Or put her Navigating Narcissism podcast in your ears, on repeat: It's good stuff. Dr. Natalie Feinblatt is a licensed clinical psychologist in private practice in Los Angeles, California who specializes in the treatment of addiction and trauma. And one of her trauma sub-specialties is working with former cult members. She received her BA from UCSD and her Masters & Doctorate from Pepperdine University, where she wrote her doctoral dissertation on psychotherapy with former cult members and has specialized in helping them ever since. She also does EMDR, Brainspotting, and other trauma-specific therapies. She was also featured on the series finale of ‘Leah Remini: Scientology & The Aftermath.' While Andy Williams famously proclaimed this to be the most wonderful time of the year, we know that the holiday season can be more than a little stressful for many of us. Whether we're navigating changing traditions, grieving the loss of a family member, or considering opting out of the holidays entirely, the question becomes how to communicate these feelings to our family members, friends, and others we may usually celebrate this time with. Joining me to help sort out these holiday-induced stressors is returning guest Nedra Glover Tawaab. Nedra is a licensed therapist, sought-after relationship expert, and the author of New York Times bestsellers Set Boundaries, Find Peace and Drama Free. Nedra has appeared as an expert on Red Table Talk, The Breakfast Club, Good Morning America, and the CBS Morning Show, just to name a few. October 4, 2016. For Jennifer and her husband Chris, and their 4 children, it was just a regular Tuesday. Up until around 8 pm that evening. Jen was driving home and she had their two young daughters in the car. Jen stopped at a stop sign, and then proceeded into the intersection without seeing the motorcycle that was approaching on her left. The motorcycle hit her car, and with that collision, the lives of two families were forever changed. David, the driver of the motorcycle, was taken to the hospital, where he died two days later. With a story like this, there are a lot of different aspects to talk about. The feelings of guilt, her overwhelming sadness, her fear of possible criminal charges, and what happened when she had a chance encounter with one of David's friends. She also talked about what she's doing now to help others who have found themselves in similar situations. This is a Flashback episode. Jen came on and told this story over 5 years ago, on the very first episode of this podcast. In a minute you'll hear that, and afterward I'll play a conversation I just had with Jen recently, to catch up on what's going on with her lately. It's a lot! One of the takeaways from this conversation is that it's good to see things from a different perspective. You know we hear about accidents like this almost every day, and it's really easy to assume that the person is just some selfish jerk who was talking on their phone, or texting, or just not paying attention, even though we really don't know what actually happened. Sometimes those assumptions are true, but not always. Today we get to hear the other side of that story. The last eighteen months or so of Jada Pinkett Smith's life have been… well, complicated. But complicated is nothing new for the multi-hyphenate who now hosts Red Table Talk and has a new book, Worthy, her gripping memoir tracing her origins in Baltimore to her throne as reigning queen of refusing to fit into anyone's idea of who she should be. Pinkett Smith shares her perspective as a young girl from her grandmother's garden, as a young woman at Baltimore School of the Arts, where one of her closest friends was Tupac Shakur, and as a starlet in the heady 1990s heyday of opportunity for Black actresses. Her exhilarating highs came with devastating lows; Pinkett Smith has shared openly about her depression and even suicidal ideation–in this wide-ranging interview, Pinkett Smith opens up about coming through those dark times, falling in, out, and in another kind of love with her life partner Will Smith, and, yes, her take on “The Holy Slap.”See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Today, Nedra Glover Tawwab teaches us how we can create drama free families: How to speak up for yourself when it feels like going against the group; Why confrontation is often the kindest thing; When, exactly, we should bring up conflict & when to let it go; The most loving way a parent can respond to a child in pain.
