Alex O'aiza is a Mexican-American indie artist from Dallas, Texas with a sound that mixes snappy pop hooks with gritty rock riffs and the rolling beats of Alternative RnB, and songs that are led by poetic lyrics exploring the Gen Z experience in a fast-changing world. Releasing a string of buzzy singles in 2019 led to press acclaim, local and college radio support and a label deal with Saint In The City Records at the start of 2020. Armed with a batch of hook-driven and genre-blurring new songs recorded with producers Caleb Turman and Austin Bello from celebrated pop-punk band Forever The Sickest Kids, O'aiza released new singles throughout the year and dropped his debut EP, Out Of My Mind, in August. The EP garnered widespread independent playlist support and radio airplay. In specific the title track was soon playlisted on KXT Texas, Idobi Radio, Alt 103.7 FM and XS Manchester radio. Out Of My Mind was also featured by tastemakers at Alt Press, XS Noize, Central Track and Stereoboard, who all praised O'aiza's combo of super-catchy pop hooks and indie-electro beats. O'aiza returned on 2021 with two stellar singles Runnin' 2 Death and How Your Love Feels where he showcased a more confident rock sound that was immediately featured on Spotify's All New Rock playlist. Alex is set to come back with bigger and bolder records than ever before, as he further pushes the boundaries of his artistry. https://lnk.bio/alexoaizamusic/?fbclid=PAAaaBgIZWXPmLyUcbTsrwYwJXoXg099FMqQXgarhbxDeQcHwX7_99htKzWAY www.alexoaiza.com --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/grayson-mask/support
It's not often an artist lands on the stages of music festivals like Governor's Ball and New Orleans Jazz Fest before they graduate high school. For multi-hyphenate artist DAMOYEE, they're just the beginning. Since early childhood, the Dallas, Texas native and award-winning singer, songwriter, producer, and composer has been studying music theory and composition to establish her own musical thumbprint built on an intrapersonal understanding of her art. She quickly began nourishing her ability by learning several instruments, including piano, guitar, bass, ukulele, melodica and dulcimer, to name a few. Growing up, DAMOYEE found inspiration from the soulful musings of artists like Stevie Wonder and Alicia Keys as she began charting her journey as a pianist and storyteller with ethereal and enchanting vocals — by the age of 10 she was performing her own original music. This led to her acceptance into Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts in Dallas, an alma mater shared by the likes of Norah Jones and Erykah Badu. Her latest album, 2019's The Whole Truth, charted internationally and garnered praise from publications like Dallas Observer and Central Track, which respectively dubbed her “Best Vocalist” and “Best Female Vocalist” in Dallas. Now, having spent the past few years bolstering her craft while a student at Berklee College of Music, DAMOYEE has found deeper meaning in the trials and tribulations of unrequited love, self-discovery and the reclamation (similar to proclamation)of her womanhood. Her new music explores these themes while fusing shades of pop, jazz, R&B and folk to create a unique sound that has reverberated throughout the viral ethers of multiple social platforms, including TikTok and Instagram, where she has amassed a collective audience in the hundreds of thousands of followers.
Barak is one of the folks behind the legendary Texas Theatre and a co-founder of the Oak Cliff Film Festival. He breaks down eight of his favorite flicks in this year's shindig, which runs June 23–26. Along the way, he talks about why he won't buy Central Track and what he did to anger the Catholic Church. Also, he and Tim nearly come to blows over "Ready Player One."
DEV WULF The story of the native Houstonian begins with his hometown as the opening backdrop for a long journey in musical identity. From playing in bars on Saturdays and churches on Sundays, the Texicana frontman would gain a versatile understanding of multiple genres spanning from rock, hip-hop, blues, and country. Since his move to Dallas in 2008, the Americana singer would go on to open for national acts including Shane McDonald, Leagues, Grace Potter, Devon Gilfillian, Black Joe Lewis, Sir Earl Toon (Kool & the Gang), and Grady Spencer & the Work while performing with the band and as himself. While continuing his active work with Texicana, he is currently sitting in as a lead guitarist and vocalist for rapper, Moses Uvere. TEXICANA! “What would happen if we started a band together?” As Chris J Norwood and Dev Wulf recall, that's the resonating question at a round table in an old East Dallas bar; just audibly above an old cash-operated jukebox. Lakewood Landing would be the birthplace of a new idea between a trio of musicians and a few beers. The buzzing room of ideas would later evolve into an Americana outfit with joining members, Chris Pitts and Kelly Huffman, offering a unique rhythm section drawing from folk, rock, country, and jazz. Starting with little known icons, Big Star and Mudcrutch as influencing introductions, Texicana's early releases gave insight to their creative beginning with cover tunes, followed by their debut EP, No Good Reason. The Dallas Observer describes Texicana's nostalgic Americana and bluesy rock “as good for the soul,” during a time when COVID-19 closed down the country. Their latest offering, “Little Bit of Trouble,” continues to offer that good-for-the-soul feeling with songs that, as Central Track put it, “…feel like a trip down Elm Street with the windows down.” Texicana has gone on to win Best Folk & Americana Act and Best New Act of 2020 by the Dallas e-magazine Central Track, nominated Best Americana Act by the Dallas Observer, and winner of 91.7 KXT's Tiny Cake Contest. They've shared the stage with national acts Grace Potter, Devon Gilfillian, Black Joe Lewis, Southern Avenue, and Grady Spencer & The Work. Their EP, “Little Bit of Trouble,” is the latest to be released by Texicana and is available digitally wherever music is available. Pete started a Dallas online arts and culture outfit called Central Track. He was SO dumb to try it. And yet. Here we are, seven years later, and he's going strong. Listen to hear his thoughts on local music, smoking cigarettes, taking cocaine, and sneakers. Fifteen stars.

Pete is the Co-Founder, President and Editor of CentralTrack.com, a Dallas onlne media alternative founded for the city’s millennial. Central Track prides itself on providing coverage tailored to serve the city’s underrepresented demographics and informing others about the lives and stories that matter to them. If you want to watch Charmed (2018)'s pilot, you can watch it on Amazon, iTunes or through the CW app: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wswvNZveNHcAbout Charmed (2018)CBS tried to reboot Charmed in 2013, but the script never got filmed. However, in 2018 the CW network decided to go ahead with a new pilot that would air 20 years to the day after the original series. The new series is set in a new fictional town and focuses on women of color with a heavy focus on feminism. The reboot has been met with much skepticism from the original show's cast.Contact Us!Email: pilotprojectshow@gmail.comInstagram: @pilotprojectpodFacebook: https://fb.me/pilotprojectpodTwitter: @pilotprojectpodVoicemail: (469) 573-2337Subscribe for Free!Apple Podcasts: http://apple.pilotprojectpod.comGoogle Play: http://googleplay.pilotprojectpod.comRSS: http://feeds.feedburner.com/pilotprojectpodSpotify: http://spotify.pilotprojectpod.comStitcher: http://stitcher.pilotprojectpod.com ★ Support this podcast on Patreon ★

If you want to watch Charmed (1998)'s "Something Wicca This Way Comes," you can watch it on Netflix or Amazon: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cdI43FwKKvgAbout Charmed (1998)After Buffy The Vampire Slayer moved to UPN in the late 1990s, The WB network was looking for a magical replacement, so they turned to Aaron Spelling and Spelling Television and they came up with Charmed, a series about 3 sistes who discover they're The Charmed Ones, three women who were prophesied to be the strongest witches ever. In their farewell to 2016, Cali and Dave talk with guests Mike Stiriti and Central Track founder, Pete Freedman. A symposium on celebrity death, social media, more football, and counterfactual deaths that might have redeemed the year. WHAT A TIME TO BE ALIVE!
We are back to new movies this week, and it’s a pretty solid one. There were things that made it worth seeing, like a couple deft twists. I talked about those with Central Track’s Angela Jones. There were also things that held it back, like some of the casting. Angela also read the book the […]
As something to talk about, this movie has a lot of prompts to discuss. As something to watch, it’s a little more meh. I break it down with Central Track movie critic Javier Fuentes. We talk about the ways that this is poignant commentary on current elections and the ways it’s totally disconnected from them. […]
This might be the coolest podcast of the 58 done so far. It’s certainly different from the other 57. Hello Gangster is a movie made by 3 guys from Dallas. They contacted Central Track looking for a review, and I got introduced to them that way. Since then we’ve had dinner and Simon was on an […]
The Dallas Type interviews Arturo Torres: an incredibly talented and thoughtful young illustrator and community lover. For the 14th type set, I’m happy to share the interview with this talented young man, who despite still being in his early 20’s, not only has a a book with his name on it gracing the New York Times and Washington Post Best Seller lists — but who can also openly share about the struggles he faced growing up, and the surprisingly mature and heartfelt perspective he has on how that empowers his art, and his interactions with the people around him. From his illustrations and writing for The Track List series features for Central Track to his pretty dope illustrations for the best selling book, The Rap Yearbook, Arturo and his work reveal a confidence, charm and vulnerability you don’t expect. As does our chat, where he shares how he got started, the unexpected path to success, his inspirations and his outlook on working hard and making people happy. It’s a conversation that’s full of heart, and incredibly powerful. Enjoy.
Back when we did the episode about The Big Short, Pete from Central Track asked Tim DeLaughter if he would come on since his band, The Polyphonic Spree, was in the movie. Tim was busy then, but he said he really liked the idea. We asked him if there was any movie coming up he would […]
Kip Mooney is back to co-host. He did the Central Track review of The Martian, and he talks about it here. We both like the movie a lot. It’s cool to see smart people at the top of their game pushing themselves to solve some of the most complicated problems. And that’s something cool about […]
This was kind of a random movie selection. I just picked from the movie Central Track had reviewed recently. It’s a so-so movie, but it does bring up a lot of subject matter that was very easy to talk about. Talking about it with me is my longtime friend Ryan Maffei. You may remember him from […]

Ant-Man is the subject, and Central Track’s own Javier Fuentes is the guest host. We saw a lot of the same things. This movie has some great in it, but never assembles it into a great movie. Still, good movies have their place, and we have no trouble ticking off the things that we enjoyed. […]
This is the first review of a pretty irredeemably bad movie. I talk with Central Track movie critic Kip Mooney first briefly about how it happens that we end up talking about something neither of us like much and then about the Poltergeist re-make. We dig into our specific problems with the movie, what we felt could […]
