It's Miriam Shor, y'all! You Might Know Her From Younger, Hedwig and the Angry Inch, Magic Hour, GCB, Shortbus, Swingtown, Maestro, American Fiction, and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3. Miriam gave us all the scoop on grounding the zaniness of Diana Trout on Darren Star's Younger, leading the indie comedy Magic Hour, and appearing in "brilliant but canceled" series like GCB and Swingtown. All that, plus Miriam talked to us about being one of John Cameron Mitchell's "players," appearing in Shortbus and, of course, originating the role of Yitzhak in the Hedwig universe; popping up in prestige Oscar films; her musical theatre roots; New York City history; and dying by way of a paintbrush in The Americans. Rerun: Scent-o-Vision, an in-cinema olfactory experience, was unveiled at the New York World's Fair on 10th October, 1940. Accompanying a short film ‘My Dream', its Swiss inventor, Hans Laube, pumped in aromas of rose water, peaches and burning incense for his wowed attendees to sniff. But it would be two decades before the technology was finally put into a feature film - Mike Todd, Jr's ‘Scent of Mystery', in 1960 - and never used again. In this episode, Arion, Rebecca and Olly revisit the 50's battle of the ‘smellaroo pix', as Todd's re-named ‘Smell-o-Vision' took on the rival ‘Smell-O-Rama'; explore why theme parks ultimately provided the best platform for the theory in practice; and consider what happens when an audience experiences ‘olfactory fatigue'... Fifty years before the Brad-Jen-Angelina love triangle, there was Eddie Fisher, Debbie Reynolds, and Elizabeth Taylor. In the early 1950s, crooner Eddie Fisher and actress Debbie Reynolds were officially known as “America's Sweethearts.” They were also best friends with actress Elizabeth Taylor and her husband Mike Todd, and were even in each other's weddings. After Mike Todd tragically died in a plane crash, Eddie went to comfort his best friend's wife (and wife's best friend) Elizabeth Taylor. He ended up spending the night—and starting an affair that scandalized the nation. Did Elizabeth feel any remorse for ‘stealing' her friend's husband? “I don't go about breaking up marriages. You can't break up a happy marriage,” she said. “Debbie's and Eddie's never has been.” Join us as we read through the “lore” and history of this infamous love triangle that rocked the end of the 1950s. ***** Significant Lovers is a true-love podcast about historic and celebrity couples. The His & Her Money Show: Managing Money, Marriage, and Everything In Between
In this empowering episode of The His and Her Money Show, hosts Talaat and Tai have an inspiring conversation with pastor, author, and influencer Paul Daugherty. Paul is the lead pastor of Victory Church in Tulsa, Oklahoma, which was founded by his parents in 1981. He took over leadership of the church in 2014 after the sudden passing of his father. In addition to pastoring Victory Church, Paul is also a popular podcaster and author. His new book "Mind Games: Winning the Battle in Your Mind" shares his powerful story of overcoming depression, suicidal thoughts, anxiety, and more after becoming a young widow and unexpectedly taking the helm of his family's influential ministry. Through biblical lessons, personal stories, and practical insights, "Mind Games" provides a blueprint for readers to gain victory over the debilitating mind games that hold so many people back from living a purposeful and fulfilling life. In this episode, Paul opens up about his mental health battles and how he was able to turn the corner through faith, counseling, trusting his loved ones, and the realization that the “master key” to victory was within him all along through Christ. He also shares wisdom on avoiding the mind games of comparison and jealousy, pursuing spiritual health alongside mental health, involving your spouse in your journey, and finding true success through obedience to God's calling. Key Takeaways: Paul shares his personal story of dealing with depression, suicidal thoughts, and anxiety after the sudden passing of his father and taking on leadership of his family's church at a young age. He explains how an encounter at his church helped him realize he had the "master key" to victory in Christ all along. This shifted his mindset and enabled him to start overcoming his inner battles. Paul stresses the importance of inviting your spouse into your mental health journey and getting counseling if needed. He apologized to his wife for not properly including her in his grief early in their marriage. To avoid falling into the mind game of comparison, Paul had to repent to his pastor friend Mike Todd for being jealous of Mike's viral success. Paul emphasizes focusing on your growth and purpose, not someone else's success. A kingdom win for one person is a win for all. Benefits of pursuing mental health: More peace, joy, better sleep, less need for others' approval. The real success is obedience to what God called you to do. In the book "Mind Games", Paul shares personal stories and reflections, Bible passages, and counseling insights to help people gain victory over various mind games like depression, anxiety, jealousy, inadequacy, and more. Modern-day Christianity is plagued with the falsehood that Christians have an obligation to be nice. Perhaps nobody has pointed this out better than Voddie Baucham When most Christians discuss any hot-button issues, it is filled with endless disclaimers and apologies for the truth we find in Scripture. This video of Mike Todd provides a prime example of this. This video of Lecrae is another great example. In today's episode, we will dissect these videos and talk through some of the reasons why we constantly see apologizing on behalf of God rather than proclaiming God's truth from the pulpit and stage. Mike Todd preaching is anthropocentric, humanistic and definitely unbiblical. Influenced by the likes of Carlton Pearson and Myles Munroe, it's no wonder he cant preach a good sermon. Preaching is not finding a text and inserting what you want to talk about into the text, that is eisgesis. Mike Todd gives a good reason on why he should stop preaching! He struggled to put together a standout competitive year, yet his charismatic presence and incredible style in the water made him a sought-after subject for photographers, gracing the pages of top surf magazines. In a pivotal moment, Mike decided to shift gears. He left the world of competitive surfing and embarked on a new adventure, studying architecture. Today, he's a thriving architect and a talented artist, creating his unique blend of art in the vibrant landscapes of Mexico.Support the showIf you like the QuiverCast here are some ways to help us keep going! Millions of college football fans across the nation have been left in the dark after Disney pulled ESPN from all Charter Spectrum cable subscribers prior to the Florida-Utah kickoff last week. The two media giants are duking it out over the future of the cable and streaming industry while the viewers are the ones who suffer. Could this feud lead to the downfall of the one-time worldwide leader in sports? Jason and an all-star cast of “Fearless” contributors — Steve Kim, T.J. Moe, and special guest JaMarr John Johnson — discuss the deep-rooted implications of Disney's dispute. Following Colorado's upset victory over TCU, Coach Deion Sanders and the Buffaloes are the talk of the sports world. Some talking heads are even talking about Deion heading to NFL coaching stardom. Jason believes it's time to pump the brakes on all the Prime Time praise. After all, it is just one game. Is Coach Prime primed for continued success, or could he be a one-hit wonder? Jason, Steve, T.J., JaMarr, and Coach Jason Brown debate the issue. In Tennessee Harmony, Anthony Walker and Virgil Walker join Jason, T.J., and JaMarr to discuss Deion and his professed faith. Is he the Mike Todd of college football? And, as a Christian, does his role extend far beyond just the Xs and Os of a football program? We want to hear from the Fearless Army!! Today we're joined again by Jeremiah Roberts and Andrew Soncrant, hosts of the podcast "Cultish," for part two of our discussion on the Hebrew Roots Movement. We start off with some parallels to the Reformation but with the clear distinction that our authority is not Martin Luther, it's Scripture. We talk about how culture has seeped into the church in negative ways and how we tend to overcorrect and find opposite solutions that still may not be biblical. We explain how we shouldn't be reactionary to culture but know that culture should grow from the church and that God is gracious to see our overcorrections and bring us back. Today we're joined by Ben Kirby, founder of Instagram account @PreachersNSneakers and author of "PreachersNSneakers: Authenticity in an Age of For-Profit Faith and (Wannabe) Celebrities," to discuss the state of the church when it comes to wealth and prosperity and how we elevate pastors to the role of celebrity. The PreachersNSneakers account posts photos of celebrity pastors, such as Steven Furtick and Mike Todd, wearing extremely expensive clothes and sneakers and leaves the questions up to us: Should we be glorifying this type of wealth when it comes to the role of pastor, and does this help or hurt prospective believers interested in the church? We discuss the relationships that have formed from this account, with some pastors engaging in good-hearted discussions with Ben about their clothing choices and others responding with more vitriol. We also discuss the two recent Hillsong documentaries that highlight the rise and fall of celebrity pastor Carl Lentz. Then we explain the seriousness of the pastoral calling and explain why many pastors who tend to show off their wealth also preach a toxic prosperity gospel with shallow and vapid messaging. --- Timecodes: (01:24) PreachersNSneakers (07:16) What is the point of the posts? Today, we're joined by Riley Gaines to talk about her decision to speak out against men competing in women's sports. Her story started when she tied with Lia (Will) Thomas in the NCAA Women's Swimming Championships and saw the trophy given to Thomas rather than her for the photo op. She covers the traumatizing experience of having to change with a man in the women's locker room and how blindsided and betrayed she and the other swimmers felt. We discuss the backlash and harassment she's faced for standing up for women in sports, including being held hostage after a speech at San Francisco State University. Riley issues a challenge to female athletes and offers some advice to parents. Then, she joins us again for a special announcement. --- Timecodes: (00:54) Intro & Monday encouragement (13:23) Background on Riley (17:15) Deciding to fight sports injustice (19:36) Will Thomas & denying truth (30:55) Family response to Riley's competition (34:35) Calling on girls to boycott (40:03) Title IX (44:20) Riley's announcement --- Today's Sponsors: Naturally It's Clean — visit https://naturallyitsclean.com/allie and use promo code "ALLIE" to receive 15% off your order. The worship services at Hillsong NYC could have been confused for concerts complete with celebrity guests like Justin Bieber, Kevin Durant, and Vanessa Hudgens. The New York branch of the Australian church even had its own rock star, Pastor Carl Lentz. In 2020, however, like most rock stars, temptation had become too much for Lentz. The pastor was dismissed from the megachurch for “moral failures.” Lentz later admitted to extra-marital affairs. Earlier this year, Lentz joined Mike Todd's Tulsa megachurch, Transformation, in an advisory role. Now Lentz can be seen as part of the FX documentary “The Secrets of Hillsong,” which explores the church's history of scandals. In a special edition of Tennessee Harmony, Anthony and Virgil Walker join Jason to discuss the show. What role does Hillsong's music play in the church's influence on culture? Was Carl Lentz treated fairly by the church? Does his past make him a more sympathetic figure? We want to hear from the Fearless Army!! Today we're talking about Riley Gaines' recent run-in with trans activists at San Francisco State University. Gaines, an athlete who famously competed against Lia Thomas, gave a speech on fairness in sports, but what started as a peaceful event turned violent when a trans protester punched her in the face. She was then chased down by a screaming mob who trapped her in a room for hours and claimed she couldn't leave until they were given money. We discuss why violent events like this tend to stem from trans hatred of women and how there probably won't be consequences (but why it's good that she's pursuing consequences anyway). The good news is that normal people are starting to realize how ridiculous it all is. Another example of men skipping the line is a British man who identifies as a woman who has gained accolades for his mediocre ballet, being accepted to a prestigious dance academy. Meanwhile Megan Rapinoe and Sue Bird, who are both successful female athletes, are fighting for men to compete against women. We explain why affirming lies is evil, no matter how kind you think you're being. Then, we take a look at Mike Todd's Transformation Church and its absolutely wild Easter service, which featured ... twerking? --- Timecodes: (00:36) Intro (02:09) Men competing in women's sports (07:37) Riley Gaines (24:24) Trans ballerina (28:10) Megan Rapinoe & Sue Bird want men to compete against women (32:11) Affirming delusions & Genesis 1 issues (44:30) Transformation Church Easter service --- Today's Sponsors: EdenPURE — when you buy one Thunderstorm you get one FREE, this week only! Today we're starting off with a quick Trump update before diving into news from behind the pulpit. First, Pastor Mike Todd made waves after a recent sermon in which he talks about gender identity and sexuality in a pretty bizarre way. We look at the full context of the clip and break down what he was likely trying to say and why it isn't quite as bad as the viral clip going around makes it seem (albeit still strange). We explain why we don't need caveats or apologies for what God says. Then, a progressive pastor on TikTok claims that "drag is holy," and we break down his obviously ridiculous statement. Also, another NHL player recently refused to wear a pride-themed jersey for his team's pride event. While it's good that his team supported him in choosing not to endorse the agenda, the whole situation raises the question: Why do sports teams need to make a statement about this to begin with? --- Timecodes: (00:41) Trump update (03:36) Mike Todd's recent sermon (23:23) Pastor says "drag is holy" (35:18) NHL player refuses to wear rainbow jerseys (48:54) Giveaway, merch and upcoming shows --- Giveaway: We're giving away three prize packages, all featuring some of our advertisers' products, new Relatable merch, and a copy of Allie's signed book.
