Jared Carrabis Podcast Episode 34: Goodbye Christian Vázquez (Until Next Year)

Play Episode Listen Later Aug 4, 2022 152:44

Pat Light got ABSOLUTELY FLAMED by Will Flemming on the Red Sox broadcast Wednesday afternoon and we get his live reaction to the audio. This transitions nicely into a discussion about current MLB players (some of which are All-Stars) that the Red Sox could've picked before they drafted Pat Light. Pat also gets into his sit-down interview with Barbara Walters on 60 minutes. We then get some quick movie recommendations by Sandra before we dive into some Red Sox talk. In Episode 34, we're breaking down the trade deadline and saying a heartfelt goodbye to Christian Vázquez. Pat speaks on what it's like to have the media swarm you immediately after a trade and talks about the massive fights that ensued between the front office and the players following his trade to Minnesota. He also details both the personal and professional issues he had with Vázquez and talks about how glad he is that he's no longer a member of the Red Sox organization. The Red Sox traded for a guy who loves jerking off in public and at this point the joke is probably played out. Tyler is pumped because Jake Diekman is gone and he ranks him among the worst relievers he's ever seen pitch for the Red Sox. The members of the name redacted pod are in serious talks to buy the Angels and trade Shohei and Trout (plus a pitching prospect) for Franchy Cordero but some people are saying it could be considered tampering. Pat is playing the role of Red Sox PR and is rephrasing some comments that Jarren Duran made after the deadline. We also get the long-awaited story between Jared and Robby Scott and talk about why that guy is an asshole. We sneak in a quick look-ahead and we're outta here. See you guys next week for the first ever three episode week in Name Redacted history! Enjoy! It's not only a full crew tonight, but also a full crew tomorrow night for a bonus episode! Who doesn't want more Red Sox content right now! Pat joins for the fourth straight episode which means tomorrow night we'll be getting Pat's Picks! Tyler was out last week so we get his reaction to the abysmal Royals series coupled with his thoughts about getting swept by the Braves. We unintentionally rip apart Darwinzon Hernandez for over 10 minutes but who can really blame us. Positive Pat has left the building and is now saying that the bullpen isn't even close to where it needs to be among other weaknesses. Pete B joins the show and we talk about superstitions and what could potentially change the course of the season. Jared is throwing out the first pitch at Fenway on Sunday night against the Yankees and he wasn't nervous at first, but now he might be more nervous for this than anything he's ever done in his life. We look ahead to a big series against the Orioles and give our predictions. Also, Chris Sale may or may not have fell off a bike and broke his wrist. We're breaking down whether or not that actually happened. See you tomorrow night! Jared Carrabis Podcast Episode 35: A Much Needed Off-Day

Play Episode Listen Later Aug 8, 2022 123:33

This team fucking sucks but we're still gonna make it a fun episode. The Red Sox currently have a 16.2% chance to make the playoffs and that seems extremely high. We came into this series looking for a sweep and worst-case three out of four, but the Red Sox DROPPED three of four to the goddamn Royals. Yikes. Once again we're looking at the owners/front office and are trying to make heads or tails of some of these decisions that, at this point, seem inexcusable. Renfroe and Schwarber have combined for over 60 home runs this year while the Red Sox roster barely has three guys in double digits. The Pittsburgh Pirates have more home runs than the Red Sox. Jared says it's starting to become a chore to watch this team and we have to imagine many of the fans feel the same way. With all that being said, we imagine how bad this team's record could be if Alex Cora wasn't our manager. Jarren Duran had a brutal game in centerfield and after the game he answered for not only his defensive mistakes but his heated interactions with the fans. We're talking about how veteran guys like Sale, Xander, or even Cora might approach him in the clubhouse after a game like that. We look ahead to the Braves series and plug the new Pat L and Pete B podcast that could be dropping in the off-season. See you Thursday (and Friday) morning! Today we're celebrating the fact that the Red Sox didn't get swept. Woo Whoo! Pat shockingly joins for the second straight episode and breaks down his $93k night in Vegas. We go line by line of his receipt and talk about our favorite lines, including the $312 he spent on fucking WATER. In classic Pat fashion he mentions a couple competing sponsors that need to get bleeped out and then we move onto Red Sox talk. Meanwhile, Tyler is having an all-time battle with his computer/internet situation. Between the delays, he's able to break down Nate Eovaldi's value on the trade market and rank Chaim Blooms overall tenure with the Red Sox. Before we head out, Jared talks about his relationship with Julio and how his friendship with him marked a very pivotal turning point in his career. We also go through guys on the trade block and decide "yes or no" on whether they'll still be with us come Tuesday night. See you after the trade deadline. In a shocking turn of events, Pat Light is rearing to go for Episode 32 of the Name Redacted Pod. We start out hot with a tweet from Christ Cotillo claiming Pat Light has been mentioned in trade to acquire Coley from Barstool. We break down Pat's value to the pod and talk about what his value could be elsewhere (which we decide is quite minimal). Right before we started recording we had a big quote drop from Xander saying that he was informed that he will NOT be traded before the deadline. We discuss what this means in terms of his chances to get signed to an extension and what it means for the future of the franchise. Triston McKenzie also tweets at Jared saying they have beef after Jared publicly sided with Xander on his three-run homer off McKenzie in Thursday night's game. The Red Sox split the series against the Guardians and unfortunately the third game of the series was solely lost by Franchy Cordero. He made three errors in a single game and easily could have had four. We grade Chaim Bloom on the roster he's constructed this year and criticize him on where he's come up short. We look ahead to the Brewers series and have some positive outlooks by Pat to end the episode. Enjoy! The kids are fucking starving but Tyler's still ripping the 9's. The Sox lose ANOTHER AL East series, this time in embarrassing fashion. This is one of those series that you can't even break down game by game since it was such a dumpster fire, so we go big picture. What's the plan for this team? Are they buyers or sellers at the deadline? If we let Xander walk how is Cora going to feel? If we aren't signing Devers then what the hell was the point of the Mookie trade? We talk about how all of our best players are unsigned and try to figure out what the hell we are waiting for. Pete gives a quick shoutout to Sydney Sweeney before he dips. Also, David Ortiz was officially inducted into the Hall of Fame this weekend. We talk about our favorite moments from his career and his continued presence in the Red Sox community post retirement. What the hell was that? The Red Sox absolutely crawl into the All-Star break losing six of their last seven games to division opponents and very realistically could've been swept back to back. After a miracle of a win on Friday night, the Sox got absolutely smacked around for the rest of the weekend getting outscored by the Yankees 27-3. On top of that, after years of waiting for a healthy Chris Sale to come back and lead this starting rotation, he takes a 106mph come-backer to his throwing hand and breaks his pinky. That is just sick. In today's episode we're talking about everything that's wrong with this team from the players to the front office. What is the direction of this team moving forward? We're starting players in positions that they have no idea how to play and we're refusing to sign homegrown, Boston-proven, superstar talent. We take a deep dive into how this team could look in the coming years. If that wasn't enough, Jared and Jake are recording across from what looks like the most fun pool party that's ever been thrown and it feels like a personal attack. Jared and Pete start the show by addressing Sunday night's episode and the fact that everyone thought we were drunk. Can't a few pals get together to worship the lord every now and then without being accused of intoxication? A fake Jesus guy reached out to Jared after the show and tried to apologize for scaring him as a child. Turns out he was less of a J guy and more of a D guy. Anyways, Sox got swept. The one positive that came out of this series was that Alex Cora dunked all over Chris Cotillo in a press conference which we break down live on the pod. Besides that, not a whole lot of things went our way this week. Tyler rips into the Red Sox defense and calls out all the head-scratching mistakes that were made in the field during this series. The reality we're now facing is that the Red Sox could possibly be in last place in the AL East heading into the All-Star break. Wow. We talk about how the roster feels thin and needs help in the bullpen and at first, and how much of the blame we should be placing on Chaim Bloom. Jared points out that there were a couple chances to get a spark this series that just didn't pan out. Bello had a chance to impress in his second start but looked shaky again. Chris Sale had a fairly dominant first outing of the year but the Sox couldn't score for him. These were a couple storylines that could've ended up being moments for the Sox to rally behind but ended up being disappointing losses. We also talk about John Henry's comments and what seems like his lack of interest in the Red Sox the last few years compared to when he first bought the team. We end the show talking planes, new enemy of the pod Jameson Taillon, and how our lives would be different if the Arod to the Red Sox trade went through. Enjoy! Jared, Pat, Pete, and Jake are live in-person at Jared's apartment recording the pod with a very special guest. Sandra makes her debut on the pod to break down the ins and outs of her relationship with Pat and friendship with Jared. But before we get into the Sandra situation we of course have to hold hands, bow our heads, and join in prayer. We hit four different prayer sessions today led by Jared, Pete, and two by Jake. Between prayers and talking with Sandra we also mix in a little baseball talk. The Red Sox won the final two games of the series against the Yankees and we're coming out of this weekend feeling like this was a win. This series wasn't about sweeping the Yankees. It was about showing that the Red Sox could hang with them in a playoff series, and we feel as though they did just that. We had some shaky starts out of Winckowski, Seabold, and Pivetta, but our offense was able to carry us to a split. After the Yankees series we look ahead to this week down in Tampa and talk about Chris Sale's season debut on Tuesday. Before we get out of here we recount the events of Saturday night when the members of the pod tried to organize a night out in Fenway. We also look at Pat Light's minor league numbers and compare them to Nolan Ryan. Quick wrap-up prayer and we're outta here, enjoy! If you're trashing Brayan Bello right now you need to do some self reflecting. Plenty of guys have had much worse major league debuts than Bello's on Wednesday night and have went on to have HOF careers. If there's anything to complain about in this series it's the offense and the bullpen. After a couple solid outings, Sawamura is back to his usual tricks and posted one of the worst spray charts we've ever seen tonight. Hansel Robles was also DFA'd after Tuesday's outing which seemed like a move that was long overdue. There are some people trying to blame this skid on the disappointment that was June 28th. Let's not forget where the Red Sox were before the June 28th movement and where they are now. The Yankees scored 16 runs against the Pirates on Wednesday night and are probably feeling pretty good on their plane ride to Fenway tonight, but the pitching matchups this weekend have us feeling like it may not be as easy of a series as they're anticipating. Eduardo Rodríguez reportedly hasn't contacted the Tigers organization in three weeks and Jared weighs in on the situation and his personal connection with Eddie. Before we hop off, one of the better Chris Sale videos we've ever seen surfaces after his rehab start in Worcester on Wednesday night. We break down his destruction of the clubhouse and what that may say about his mentality as he looks to return to the Red Sox in the coming days. Enjoy! Jared and Jake were lucky enough to be at Wrigley Field this weekend to witness some of the worst Red Sox baseball of the year. Jarren Duran and Tanner Houck were on Jared and Jake's flight to Chicago which led to Jarren telling Jared some alleged breaking news. Jake got mistaken for Tyler at Wrigley Field which lowkey ended up being a shot at Tyler. No one knows why we didn't see Austin Davis during this series until Jared texts Cora, and now it all makes sense. Jared has been playing an extremely uncomfortable game of "Gunshot or Firework?" here in Chicago. The Brockton Rox have the sickest lineup of all time but still kinda suck so we dive into their individual stats. Rich Hill made a spectacular defensive play on Friday night and Jared wasn't the least bit impressed. Winckowski was dealing on Saturday night which is the only good takeaway from that game. After heavily praising Matt Strahm on this program merely less than a month ago, the regression has been real. We break down our impressions of Wrigley and talk about Winckowski's criticsm of the field and its environment. We're also breaking down the disappointment that was Tuesday night as we were soooo close to being able to say it but came up short due to ANOTHER blown save by the bullpen. When will it end? It's Jared and Pete's first solo podcast together since the early Sect*** 1* days so of course we're talking cigs, strips clubs, and drinking. We also look ahead to the Cubs series and take a close look at some of their players who may or may not be real people. The Red Sox swept the Guardians and god damn are they playing good ball. It's just Jared, Jake, and Coley today as Tyler is on vacation, Pat is hammered, and Pete's covering hockey. We break down the sweep of the former first-place now second-place Guardians game by game and award another Klark's Ketchup MVP to someone who it feels like really needed it. Jared explains why Jarren Duran is now the Red Sox leadoff hitter and if you think otherwise you're wrong. The bullpen trust list is coming back after June 28th and Jared and Jake talk about who is on their hypothetical list as of today. June 28th is right around the corner and you bet your ass we're gonna say it. We're gonna say it all over the place. Tune into the stream Tuesday night so we can have a celebration of saying it as we watch the Red Sox continue to steamroll teams. Coley also joins the pod for a couple minutes. Enjoy! Special guest Pat Light joins us tonight and breaks down his net worth in detail. Jared and Pat also discuss their respective relationships with Sandra. The guys break down the state of the bullpen and where they're at mentally. We also talk about how hard it is to sweep a major league team no matter how bad they are, especially when half your lineup is your minor league roster in the last game. The Red Sox are about to head into a GAUNTLET up until the All-Star break and we're not scared, we're excited. Vintage Chris Sale could be back and boy does that make it move. The Red Sox are hosting dance parties, Pat's grandams falling down or having birthday parties, and a former member of the pod makes yet another appearance to give his take on Klark's Ketchup MVP. Smooches dominated yet again, Bogaerts had another outstanding series, and Trevor Story won his second Klark's Ketchup MVP of the year. Jared had an eventful weekend with Johnny Damon sleeping over his apartment, NESN wanting him to jump out of a plane with Jonny Gomes, and having to scramble for tickets on Father's Day and waiting in line like a normal person to get into Fenway. We're coming into the pod with a bad taste in our mouths after dropping the last game of the series to the A's. The Sox still won the series and are 8-1-1 in their last 10 series, but you can't help but feel like they let one slip there against a TERRIBLE A's team. Trevor Story is in a big-time slump and looks lost at the plate ever since he exploded for seven home runs against the Mariners and White Sox a few weeks ago. Jared and Tyler weigh in on what their concern level for Story looks like right now. We also have another very close call in the Klark's Ketchup MVP discussion which prompts Jared to call that guy who used to be on the pod. Jared is taking Sandra to the Celtics game and we dive a little deeper into the ins and outs of their very friendly, super casual relationship. The Red Sox dropped the final game of a four-game series against the Angels but it's hard to be upset about it. This snaps a seven-game win streak for the Sox where they pitched well, hit well, came up big in clutch situations, and generally looked like a team that's built for the postseason. Especially with Bogaerts and Story getting the night off, you can't help but feel like this was one you didn't NEED to win. Jared and Tyler break down the situation with Garrett Whitlock. Is he a starter? A reliever? What is his role when Sale and Paxton come back? Is he hurt? There are a lot of question marks with Whitlock and we cover them all in this episode. We also show love to Michael Wacha and Matt Strahm. Wacha pitched a complete game shutout during this series and has a SUB TWO ERA on the year; something everyone obviously saw coming. Strahm is making a serious case to get a shot in the closer role, especially after converting two saves during this series. Christian Vázquez also wins his FIRST EVER Klark's Ketchup MVP, so you best believe he's gonna be drizzlin' that ketchup on the flight to Seattle tonight. After a promising start to the short series in Atlanta, the Red Sox found a way to blow Game 2 and come out of the series with a split. The Red Sox are technically still undefeated with beardless Cora (since he got ejected in the sixth inning of Game 2), but a horrendous missed call and lack of reliable relievers spoiled what could've been a turning point for this team. Instead, they drop the second game and lose another contest that seemingly could've been won if they had a legit closer. Jared talks about what the Red Sox' record could look like if they had a legitimate closer since day one. Pat rejoins the show after a short hiatus for the Kentucky Derby (which was held in Kentucky this year), and talks about how if a few ball/strike calls went his way he could still be in the league today. He also explains that the Red Sox' attitude about this series will play a huge factor going into the series against the Rangers this weekend. We also talk about JBJ potentially being a better hitter than Kiké right now, the Bogaerts to the Cardinals rumors, who should be getting more looks for the ninth inning role, and pitching matchups against the Rangers this weekend. Pat also dives into his Kentucky Derby experience and ranks it amongst other live sporting events he's been to. The Red Sox got swept this weekend to extend their losing streak to five games and take sole possession of last place in the AL East. Sick. Jared and Tyler talk about the Red Sox' nine blown saves on the season and how many of them could've been wins if they had a legit closer. We also talk about how Devers, Xander, and JD are the only guys doing anything on offense and none of their contracts have been extended. Jake got his first opportunity to go on the field at Fenway and meet the players and talks about his experience. Pat's taking the Kentucky Derby loss hard so we'll have to get his full breakdown next episode. Pete is watching the Bruins which you can't really blame him for since they actually win games. We're testing out the waters and predicting the Braves to sweep the Red Sox in the short series this week. Something has to work, because none of this makes sense. We've been catching some heat on the pod for not criticizing the team and holding them accountable, so that's exactly what we do in this episode. Jared debuts a brand new segment where everyone has to say something bad about the Red Sox. It's tough that we've gotten to this point but at the end of the day when you're playing bad you're playing bad. We're not giving up on the season yet and this is still a team come September that could be in the mix, but you have to acknowledge a bad start when you see one. We talk about Story's lackluster start to the year, Verdugo falling off a cliff, poor offensive numbers for pretty much everyone besides Xander and JD, the bullpen being disastrous as of late, and whole bunch more fun stuff. Pete is now 0-4 on the year which also sucks. Jared previews the upcoming matchups against the White Sox and talks about going to Fenway with Tyler and Jake this weekend. There's also free {name redacted} podcast merch on the line for anyone who asks Jake for his first picture. Let's try and uh, win some games! Enjoy! The first in-studio episode of {Name Redacted} podcast is here! Jared, Pete, and Jake are in studio with Pat and Tyler on Zoom to discuss the repeated dick-kickings that the Red Sox handed out all weekend. From the Sawamura overthrow to the post rain delay offensive onslaught by the Orioles, this series for the Red Sox was atrocious to say the least. Good thing every game so far has been spring training and the real season starts Tuesday! The guys look ahead to a much-needed home stand and preview the matchups against the Angels, but not before we dive into some Kentucky Derby talk and get Jared's Dad's surefire winner! This is a Mo Donegal podcast now, especially since Pat is putting $6,000 on him to win and won't stop bragging about how much money he has. Enjoy! Jared and Tyler are running it back for another tag-team episode as Pete is at the Bruins game and Pat has a huge dinner he can't miss. On the bright side Jake is back from the dead. On the not so bright side the Red Sox offense is nowhere to be found. Jared and Tyler break down the disaster that was the Toronto series in which the Blue Jays took three out of four from the Red Sox. What a kick in the dick that was. They talk about the lack of offense, the bullpen blowing Game 2 and how Tanner Houck being there would've allowed the Red Sox to play that game differently, the Red Sox batting statistics without Xander and J.D. in the lineup, the level of panic we should have about this team right now, and where the Red Sox record could be at if a couple things went differently over the past week. We also look ahead to the Baltimore series and declare it a must sweep across the board. At the end of the episode, Jared dives into what it was like to make an appearance on MLB Network today and fulfill a lifelong goal of his. This also leads to discussion about his career journey in general and the different experiences, challenges, and choices he made that got him to where he is today. We close out by mentioning that this Sunday will be the first in-studio podcast with Jared, Pete, Tyler, and Jake all in-studio and Pat being remote so keep an eye out for that one Sunday night/Monday morning! They break down what went wrong in Tampa from the lack of offense to the Story/Dalbec mishap that cost the Red Sox the game on Saturday. Garrett Whitlock was dicing in his first MLB start ever and it's hard to see him going back to the bullpen after that. Jared gives an inside perspective on what played out between the two sides leading up to the ceremony and why a message from Don never came to fruition. The guys also talk about the unreplicable chemistry between Don and Jerry and reminisce on some of their greatest moments in the booth. Tyler claims that the Red Sox letting Don walk was one of the worst moves in franchise history and a lot of Red Sox fans feel the same way. We then shift to discussing Pete's horrendous 0-3 start at Fenway this year and start to think about whether he's solely to blame for the Red Sox' inconsistent start to the year. Pete also admits to being drunk last episode and Jared says he had no idea. Jared Carrabis, Pete Blackburn, Pat Light and Tyler Milliken are your new hosts of that podcast that everyone knows the name of but we can't really say it so we'll keep using placeholder names until people decide to stop being assholes. Jared kicks off the first episode *cough* (455th episode) *cough* by introducing Pat as a returning host, Pete as a returning OG host and Tyler as a brand new host. The discussion quickly shifts to Pat not wishing Jared a happy birthday after Jared posted a heartfelt message for Pat's birthday mere days ago. The guys then talk some Sox; figuring out what clubhouse traditions we should be bringing back from last year, breaking down the situations with Devers and Bogaerts, grading offseason moves by Chaim, and getting ready for Opening Day. We talk about how TikTok is making people stupid and Jared is all for it, which also leads to another potential placeholder name, “SoxTok.” It's good to have the podcast back, it's good to have baseball back, and it's just good to be back.
