Pirates OF/1B Billy Cook joined the show. Billy said he missed out on the air bnb he had last year in spring training with the Orioles. Billy is living with Nick Yorke during the spring, another young guy that came over at the deadline last year. Billy said he isn't much of a cook and told the story about making chicken pot pie. The guys asked Billy about playing with Paul Skenes and the approach against him in the batter's box. Billy told the guys about a few ‘holy crap' moments he's had in his professional life, but he doesn't have any starstruck moments yet. Who does Billy model his game after? Billy said his favorite player growing up was Dustin Pedroia because he thought he would be shorter due to both of his parents being 5'7. Billy talked about the challenge of breaking through with the Orioles due to their abundance of good, young players in the system. He gave his kneejerk reaction to being traded to the Pirates. Billy feels most comfortable in CF and talked about seeing Oneil Cruz in action. He thinks Cruz could be a great athlete in multiple sports.

Darick talked about the guys he watched growing up and who he tries to model his game after – some big-time boppers of the late 90's and 2000's. Darick said one of those guys was Barry Bonds and he broke down what he loved about his game. Darick talked about the changes in the game and how hitters approach at-bats differently than years ago. He said Juan Soto was deserving of his money and noted how great of a swing he has. The guys asked Darick about how he has changed his strategy at the plate after a down year in 2024. Darick described his favorite moment in the big leagues so far. Darick chatted about watching baseball growing up and his love for the 2004 Red Sox. Darick gave a shout out to MVP Baseball 2005 – the single greatest baseball video game ever made. The guys asked Darick about his offseason and/or relaxation plan. Pirates OF/1B Billy Cook joined the show. Billy said he missed out on the air bnb he had last year in spring training with the Orioles. 2025 BBWAA HOF Ballot Happy New Year! It's once again time to talk about the Hall of Fame, this time the writers' ballot. There are plenty of worthy candidates returning to the ballot, and two standout first year candidates to watch. Japanese icon Ichiro Suzuki is a lock for induction this year. Although he didn't debut until he was 27, the spry savant amassed over 3,000 hits, 1,400 runs, 10 All-Stars and Gold Gloves, not to mention two batting titles, a Rookie of the Year, and a MVP. He also holds the single season hit record, with 262 in the 2004 season. Although not the first Japanese player in MLB, his smashing success paved the way for other Japanese stars such as Hideki Matsui, Yu Darvish, and Shohei Ohtani. The only question about Ichiro is whether or not he'll be unanimous. Don't sleep on ace lefty C.C. Sabathia's chances on his debut ballot. As one of just three left handed pitchers with 3,000 strikeouts (Steve Carlton and Randy Johnson the other two), Sabathia was the definition of a workhorse. Add in 250 wins, a Cy Young, a World Series, and an ALCS MVP, and you've got a Hall of Famer, especially in this era. Among the other first-year candidates, there are a few who could survive the 5% threshold to remain on ballot for another year. Félix Hernández was one of the most dominant starters in baseball from 2007 - 2015, but that might not be enough for the writers. Dustin Pedroia and Ian Kinsler were both excellent second basemen that frankly lack the longevity needed for enshrinement, but are certainly worthy cases to discuss, particularly on the same ballot as sabermetric darling Chase Utley. Russell Martin and Brian McCann come up short in the traditional counting stats that writers demand from catchers, but their advanced framing metrics put them in similar ranks as Joe Mauer, Buster Posey, and Yadier Molina. Of the returning candidates, Billy Wagner came up just short last year (73.8%), and he will need a push to get over in his final year on the ballot. In his second to last year, Andruw Jones appears to be stalling around 60% of the vote, not far off from induction, but not close enough to be confident he'll make it this year or the next. Carlos Beltrán and Chase Utley appear to be on track for induction in a few years time, though they'll need to continue their growth. AROD, ManRam, and Andy Pettitte would be in the Hall if not for PEDs, and they're not getting in anytime soon. How many will join Dick Allen and Dave Parker for a July celebration? Find out January 21st when the results are announced. You're in for a treat! Watch below & like/subscribe anywhere you cast! https://youtu.be/OJxTT0vk7v0
Welcome to Season 8 of No Crying in Baseball! Join us as we laugh, fight, make (probably) terrible predictions, and drink beer from the North (and the northeast). Pottymouth is team Jeff, and Patti is team Rhys and everything gets back to Dustin and Manny. We talk Opening Day – Did Patti write the talking points for the new Os ownership? She's definitely shopping for a Maryland Tough Baltimore Strong tee shirt. Tyler is Pottymouth's new best friend and she is feeling good about her Oswaldo and Chourio picks and already lamenting Royce. A's fans did what A's fans do best. We love that the TEX World Series rings have hidden leather from winning baseballs (and a map!) but are a little worried about the ring tops getting lost.We say, “a maple leaf off the tree,” “do not travel after questionable oat milk,” and “you gave me the boring kerfuffle.” Fight the man, send your game balls to Meredith, get boosted, and find us on Twitter @ncibpodcast, on Facebook @nocryinginbball, Instagram @nocryinginbball and on the Interweb at nocryinginbball.com. Please take a moment to subscribe to the show, and leave us a review on Apple Podcasts or wherever you listen to NCiB. Become a supporter at Patreon to help us keep doing what we do. Say goodnight, Pottymouth

Another week, another batch of tough quotes from those in and around the Red Sox. Steve and Joey sift through Rafael Devers' statements on the state of the team, Sam Kennedy's story about Dustin Pedroia urging the team to be aggressive, Kenley Jansen once again expressing frustration at the front office's complacency, and much more! Plus, Liam Hendriks is here! He's not pitching for the Sox before the trade deadline, but he's here.
John Henry and the Red Sox have to sell Jones, Mego, and Arcand with their play on the field. John Henry is not invested, the players want out, Alex Cora too. Why should any fans care? The way ownership acted this offseason is shameful. Arcand speaks from the perspective of a Boston fan and says, "We are not trying to tell people not to listen to games. I just do not like this. It is not good for the city of Boston or anyone that the Red Sox are bad."
Multiple people have reported that Dustin Pedroia reached out to Rex Sox ownership to give them a piece of his mind. However, WEEI's Rob Bradford told Jones and Mego that the Red Sox themselves called Dustin first to ask him to help them out. He said no, but then gave them a piece of his mind. In this segment, Jones and Mego discuss this breaking news.
Everyone is speaking out against John Henry and the Red Sox ownership. Raphael Devers says he is frustrated, Jansen says that he was lied to, and alumni such as Dustin Pedroia are questioning everything. This leads Mego to say that there is a rebel alliance out there against John Henry and the Fenway Management Group. Players are speaking out, fans (such as Arcand) are speaking out, and alumni are speaking out. It is time for change.
WEEI's Rob Bradford joined the Jones and Mego show with Arcand and breaks down the Dustin Pedroia situation, Sam Kennedy, and the Red Sox ownership's messaging to fans. Listen to find out who called who first, Pedroia or the Red Sox. The media has been reporting as if Dustin made the first move, but that is not the case, Bradfo has the inside scoop.
The Boston Red Sox recently signed All-Star closer Liam Hendriks to a two-year deal with incentives. On today's show, Gabby breaks down the signing and what it means for Boston. She also reacts to Dustin Pedroia's comments about the Boston Red Sox offseason so far, and remembers former pitcher Bill Lee with 37 days to go until Opening Day.
