In this episode, bilingual Spanish-Quechua, we interview historian Charles F. Walker about his book Juan Bautista Túpac Amaru Ñak'ariran. Maqanakuy watakuna rikuq (Oxford University Press & Centro de Estudios Regionales Bartolomé De las Casas de Cusco, 2024 [originally published in English, 2020]). We also spoke with Rosalía Puma Escalante, who translated the book from the Spanish edition to Quechua. Juan Bautista Túpac Amaru, the half-brother of José Gabriel Condorcanqui (Túpac Amaru II), played a significant role in the rebellion against colonial authorities from 1780 to 1783. This uprising was the largest insurrection in the history of the Spanish Empire. While the prominent leaders, Túpac Amaru and his wife Micaela Bastidas, were brutally executed, Juan Bautista survived decades of imprisonment in Peru, Spain, and North Africa. He was finally released and moved to Argentina in 1822, but sadly, he died before he could return to Cusco, which had always been his dream. Thank you for listening to the Kuskalla Podcast.

Welcome to Episode 81 of Tablesetters! Devin and Steve are back with a fast-moving, stat-packed dive into a wild week across Major League Baseball. We start in the Bronx, where the Yankees handed the game over to Devin Williams with a 3-0 lead in the 8th… and he handed it right back. Two outs, then chaos—after a hit and two walks, Luke Weaver gave up back-to-back two-run hits to cough up the lead entirely. Williams blamed the rain, but his ERA now sits above 10, and Yankee fans are losing patience. The Padres continue their surge despite losing both Fernando Tatis Jr. and manager Mike Shildt to ejections—they've now rattled off six straight wins. Over in Queens, the Mets are falling apart: AJ Minter (1.64 ERA) is out for the season with a lat tear, Danny Young needs Tommy John, and Jesse Winker's oblique strain will sideline him 6–8 weeks. Brett Baty's back, and Genesis Cabrera joins the pen—but the depth is running thin. And how about the Athletics? With a walk-off win over Seattle, they've gone 7-3 in their last 10 and sit just one game out of first place at 20-16. The Royals are also heating up, led by Cole Ragans, who returned from a minor groin issue and struck out 11 in his comeback start. KC has won three straight and is right in the AL Central mix. We also dive into a brutal round of IL stints across the league—Trout, Yordan, Imanaga, Jazz, Glasnow, Buehler, Casas, and Teoscar all out. We debate which loss is the toughest to absorb. Elsewhere: Bret Boone is now the hitting coach in Texas Jake Burger sent to Triple-A Leody Taveras claimed by the Mariners Evan Carter gets the call back Lance McCullers makes his first start since the 2022 World Series Plus, the Sub-2 ERA Crew continues to deal: Yamamoto (0.90), Max Fried (1.01), Mahle (1.19), Senga (1.38), Brown (1.67), Luzardo (1.94), and Kris Bubic (1.98) are all under 2.00. And in Take a Pitch/Swing Away, we take our swings at three big topics: Is Pete Crow-Armstrong's hot start sustainable? Could Aaron Judge actually chase a .400 Triple Crown? Is Sandy Alcantara's trade value completely shot with an 8.42 ERA? From 'Play Tessie' (subscribe here): It was a rough weekend for the Red Sox as they not only lost their series at Fenway to the Twins, but also lost Triston Casas for seemingly the season and maybe longer. Gordo, Sammy, and Pat give their takes on how the Sox should address their new need at first base for both the short and long term. Then, the most recent stretch of losses have been when the Sox have had the lead, but what is the balance between the lack of offense and Garrett Whitlock among others not locking things down? And, the guys agree that fans need to get realistic about Luis Guerrero and the role he has for the 2025 Red Sox specifically. Wiggy says whoever the Sox replace Casas with will be an upgrade
After a serious Triston Casas injury that'll sideline him for the season on top of a series loss at home to the Twins, the Red Sox are back to .500 and there looks to be real concern about the team. Why replacing Casas and the struggling bullpen doesn't make things sound optimistic in the near future?
The Red Sox are on a slide right now. Who should play first base? The guys give their options. Edelman makes the Patriots hall of fame. This stinks for Casas. He is probably done in Boston.
Reset on Casas. What on earth are the Sox going to do? Why aren't Mayer and Anthony up? If nothing else, they need to get Anthony and Mayer up to give them some energy. The Sox had the easiest schedule in April but they still ended up .500. Callers give their plans for the Sox first base future. Jones makes a Lauren Boebert joke. He wants to go to the movies with her. Neither of the guys are interested in getting Yoshida in the lineup.

He wants to go to the movies with her. Neither of the guys are interested in getting Yoshida in the lineup. Questioning Cora's decision making. He is pushing the wrong buttons. The Sox are 4-9 in one run games. Garrett Crochet has been alright recently, but not ace level. Do his stats count? Did the new city connect jerseys drop? Patriots storylines. Joe Milton the “bad guy?” Williams' attitude is great! He is a guy who just loves football. Is that something that automatically moves a guy up the Patriots' board? Have the Patriots gone too far with “culture building?”
The Red Sox are on a slide right now. Who should play first base? The guys give their options. Edelman makes the Patriots hall of fame. This stinks for Casas. He is probably done in Boston. Devers is a full time DH now. It seems as if he is declining to play first base. What about the young guys? Neither of Jones nor Keefe wants one of them experimenting at first base. Not in the plans right now according to Breslow. Devers at first, Anthony at DH and OF. That is the answer. The team needs a spark. Why does Cora keep bringing Whitlock out for a second inning? Bill Belichick SNL skit. They could have done more with it. How does he solve his PR nightmare? Is it one of his kids telling him to fix the problem? Recent updates on Jordon include the report that she may have forced her way into the Dunkin commercial. Will Bill show up to the Met Gala? More like will he get dragged there.
Stiz has beef with tacos? Casas discussion. One of the worst injuries that is out there right now. It does not happen a lot. Big guy with a big rehab coming up for Casas. We cannot even fathom what he is thinking right now. Hart does not think he will ever be the same. The Sox need to bounce back immediately. The plans for the Red Sox start flooding in. Why did the Sox not have a backup plan themselves?
Red Sox bullpen struggles. Casas is very unlucky. Optimistic Andy saves the day. In the wake of one of the more disappointing starts of the season, he points out that the Sox are only two games out of first place. All this negativity swirling, two games out!

After a bad bad week, we are beyond disappointed. We are irate. We are tired. We break it all down, starting with some passionate ranting. We also discuss what we want to see change, the impact of the Casas injury, and the Devers at 1B idea. Then we preview the Texas series upcoming. Great episode loaded with fiery takes.
(0:00) Mazz opens The Baseball Hour discussing the rEd Sox losing 2 of 3 to the Twins and falling to .500. Plus, who will replace Casas at 1st Base? (15:51) Mazz gives his thoughts on the injury to 1st baseman Triston Casas on Friday night.

(0:00) Bruins offseason thoughts including coaching options (8:40) Who will Red Sox turn to at 1B with Casas out? (21:25) More Pats and Red Sox thoughts (31:24) Five Questions with Gasper
Triston Casas beat out the ball to 1B - but at what cost? The cost of a torn Patellar Tendon. The recovery time for that injury can be anywhere from 6-12 months. So, here are our options. Abraham Toro has been called up. You know what? Sure. In the interim, you've gotta give it to Romy and Toro. You could also consider Refsnyder and Wong, maybe even Grandal. Argue about Casas' current production all you want, but this is nothing less than a huge blow to the Red Sox lineup so early in the season. Though, personally, I think we are far from cooked. Bryce Harper to Boston!
Casas injury to knee. What possible first base replacements for Red Sox? What do the Celtics need to do to get under the second apron?
Could Rafael Devers play first base? Can the Knicks beat the Celtics?
Bradfo and Play Tessie react to the breaking news that Triston Casas will miss the rest of the season. Who can replace Casas at first base?
Lou Merloni joins Hart, Fitzy, and Dan to discuss the latest on the Boston Red Sox. Lou thinks more development can't hurt Roman Anthony or Marcelo Mayer. Both guys are preparing in case they need to get called up due to injuries. The team needs Casas to perform in the middle of the lineup.
(00:00) The Great Michael Holley slides in for co-hosting duties alongside Hardy and Ryan Johnston. (19:25) WHAT HAPPENED LAST NIGHT: The Celtics host the Magic for Game 2 of their first-round series tonight, but Jayson Tatum is listed as doubtful. Triston Casas hit a three-run homer in the seventh and the Boston Red Sox beat the Seattle Mariners 8-3 on Tuesday night for their sixth win in seven games.
