1976 - Lewiston, Maine. In the early hours of a November morning in 1976, Dorothy “Dotty” Milliken left her home to do some late-night laundry in Lewiston, Maine. She never made it back. A local paperboy found her body just before dawn, outside Beal's Laundromat. She had been beaten to death in what police called a frenzied attack. Tonia was just seven when her mother was killed—a traumatic loss that reshaped the course of her family's future. In the years since, she's worked to understand what happened. Now, a new book revisits the case, pulling together decades of theories, suspects, new interviews, and questions to form a possible picture of that night. But police are still missing a critical piece of the puzzle: the person that knows who killed Dorothy Milliken. If you have any information on the murder of Dorothy Milliken, please contact the Maine State Police Major Crimes Unit South at (207)624-7076 x9. The family is offering a $10k reward for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person(s) responsible for this crime. William Milliken went from digital marketing agency owner to building a multimillion-dollar business scooping dog poop, and turned it into an empire of opportunity. What started with a $1,200 Facebook ad budget and a willingness to get dirty has grown into Swoop Scoop, a fast-scaling service company with over 2,500 weekly customers and a booming online community. But Will didn't just build a business; he built a playbook for blue-collar entrepreneurs. With no VC cash, no complex tech, and no fancy office, he scaled through brand power, ruthless efficiency, and relentless execution. The result? A scalable, systemized business with franchise-level potential—and a community that's generating nearly $1M a year on its own. In this no-fluff, highly tactical episode, Will shares: Why he turned down 100+ franchise requests to stay in control How he uses quarterly billing to boost retention and lifetime value His dead-simple customer acquisition funnel that still works today The $2/hour hiring strategy that's beating Amazon and FedEx How his YouTube channel adds 40+ paid community members a week What new founders get wrong (and why logos don't matter) Why low-barrier service businesses might be the ultimate growth hack Key Lessons: Moats Matter – Even in commodity services, brand + speed = defensibility Start Dirty, Scale Smart – The right execution makes “ugly” businesses unstoppable Billing is a Growth Lever – Extend payment cycles, extend customer life Team Like a Pro – Better jobs = better people = better business Simple Wins – Keep it lean, keep it fast, and keep it focused Host: Tyler Martin, Think Business Podcast Want to build a service business that actually scales? 1976 - Lewiston, Maine. On a cold November morning in 1976, 27-year-old Dorothy Milliken—Dotty to those who loved her—was found bludgeoned to death outside Beal's Laundromat in Lewiston, ME. A survivor. A mother. This is her story. This is part 1 of 2. Part 2 will be released on June 17th. The hosts discuss how desegregation under Brown was hampered in schools by a policy of “all deliberate speed” where the speed was often zero. In contrast, and despite the fact that in large portions of the nation education is separate and unequal, the Trump administration has begun an “all speed ahead” policy of eliminating decrees which contained desegregation requirements'. https://www.axios.com/2025/05/02/doj-decades-old-school-desegregation-louisiana In this episode of Ellis Conversations, co-host Jamil Ellis and his father, retired federal magistrate Judge Ronald Ellis, reflect on the 71st anniversary of Brown v. Board of Education—not just the 1954 decision, but its overlooked 1955 follow-up. They explore the legal and societal impacts of desegregation mandates, the resistance that followed, and how today's rollback of civil rights enforcement—particularly around school desegregation—echoes familiar patterns. With real-life stories, including Ruby Bridges and Prince Edward County's school closures, the conversation traces decades of policy evolution—from Milliken v. Bradley to Roberts Court rulings that undermine systemic remedies for segregation. The episode also offers generational perspectives on optimism, protest, and the need for youth leadership in safeguarding educational equity.
