The feelings of Alex Bregman still linger even after the Red Sox gave a big contract to Ranger Suarez. With the quick pivot from Craig Breslow, do we really think the Sox wanted to bring Bregman back or were they forced to? Then, Sean McAdam of MassLive joins the show to keep the conversation going and pour some cold water on Bo Bichette as the next step the Sox take in finding another bat for their lineup. And, from the list of trade candidates the Sox could acquire to fill that need, its a big drop off which brings everyone back to missing out on Pete Alonso.

THE BOSTON RED SOX SIGNED A FREE AGENT!!!!Craig Breslow's first move of free agency nets the Red Sox left-hander Ranger Suarez. The former Philadelphia Phillie has a 3.38 career ERA in 762 career innings of work. He's also one of the game's best postseason pitchers, posting a 1.48 ERA in 42.2 career playoff innings.Jordan, Jason, and Jake give their initial reactions, as well as talk about what kind of trickle-down effect this may have on future moves. Are they going to go the blockbuster route for an infielder? Stick with what they have? The Boston Red Sox sign an actual player to an actual deal. Yes, in the year of our lord 2026, Craig Breslow gives $130mm to Ranger Suarez. Of the three available Suarezes on the market, this one is by far our favorite. To think Suarez and Gray are splitting the duties as your #2 and #3 pitchers respectively is all Red Sox fans have dreamed about since 2018. Finally, the Red Sox sign a player for just money. No prospects, no contract splits, just money. There's still some redeeming to do so keep it together, Breslow. Episode 131 of Tablesetters is a reaction pod focused on a pivotal stretch of the offseason, as a major pitching commitment in Boston, a franchise-defining signing in Chicago, a stalled superstar market, and a rare ballpark adjustment collectively show how teams are adapting to risk, scarcity, and roster timing heading into 2026. We open in Boston, where the Red Sox are set to sign left-handed pitcher Ranger Suárez to a five-year, $130 million contract with no deferrals, no opt-outs, and no no-trade protection. The deal represents the largest free-agent commitment of Craig Breslow's tenure and a clear pivot back toward rotation strength after Boston stalled in its pursuit of an infield upgrade. Suárez joins a rotation led by Garrett Crochet and recently bolstered by Sonny Gray and Johan Oviedo, signaling a belief in run prevention, depth, and managed workloads over chasing innings volume. From there, we shift to Chicago, where the Cubs make the biggest offensive splash of their offseason by signing Alex Bregman to a five-year, $175 million deal with significant deferrals. We break down why this move reshapes the Cubs' lineup, how it reflects a philosophical shift from the Ricketts family, and what Bregman's arrival means for the infield picture alongside Dansby Swanson, Nico Hoerner, and Matt Shaw as Chicago pushes firmly into a win-now posture. Next, we zoom out to the top of the free-agent market, where Kyle Tucker remains unsigned. We discuss reports that the Mets have offered a short-term deal with a $50 million average annual value, while the Blue Jays have made a long-term offer, highlighting the growing divide between extreme AAV flexibility and traditional long-term guarantees — and why Tucker's decision could reshape the rest of the offseason. We close in Kansas City, where the Royals announce changes to the outfield dimensions at Kauffman Stadium, moving in the fences in both corners and the alleys while lowering wall height. We explore why this calculated adjustment is aimed at boosting offense without compromising pitching, how it aligns with the Royals' left-handed core, and what it says about teams looking for marginal gains beyond the roster itself. Steve and Devin connect the dots between market behavior, roster construction, financial flexibility, and environment, focusing on how these moves reflect a league increasingly split between certainty, creativity, and controlled risk. ⚾️ One week, four signals, and a clearer picture of how contenders are being built.
There's a lot more intertwined between the Patriots and Texans, but one name has the decisive advantage. Why does it matter that Mike Vrabel was once a coach in Houston and every other former Patriot on the Texans' staff was under Bill Belichick? Then, Mego joins the show to talk more about the Patriots and why Drake Maye had an average performance against the Chargers. And, for what feels like the first time in his tenure, Craig Breslow is entirely at fault for letting Alex Bregman sign with the Cubs.
Craig Breslow definitely pivoted after losing Alex Bregman and beefed up the starting rotation by signing Ranger Suarez. This feels like a good move for the Red Sox to make, but doesn't quite mend all the fences.
Brian begins by assessing Craig Breslow's job performance in the aftermath of Alex Bregman's departure and the hole he leaves at third base (0:00). Then, he chats with MassLive's Chris Mason about the Pats' wild-card win over the Chargers, Drake Maye's performance grade, Robert Spillane's impact on the defense, and the Texans' win over the Steelers on Monday night (23:20). Brian and Jamie end with some potential trades the Celtics could make to bolster the roster (56:30). We want to hear from you! Leave Brian a message on the listener line at 617-396-7172. In this 90 minute show, Christian pokes some holes into those who are nervous about the Patriots' chances against the Ravens this Sunday. Why are most concerned about the Pats in Baltimore and are the Ravens really a team that should be feared? Then, looking back at last night's Rams-Seahawks thriller shows that New England isn't quite at the level of LA or Seattle just yet. And, in a recent article, Craig Breslow's comments might've signaled that there's no shot the Red Sox bring back Alex Bregman.
As the only team who has yet to sign a free agent, John Henry, Craig Breslow, and company are just making fans even more angrier than they are with the lack of activity.

Christian is joined by Gordo and Sammy from "Play Tessie" to further the Red Sox conversation about them not signing Pete Alonso. How much harder did things get for Craig Breslow and company to try and salvage their offseason? Then, everything has come down to money, budgets, and values which doesn't seem like a winning formula. And, Alex Bregman seems like the prime target for the Sox to sign, but if they wouldn't sign Alonso skepticism is fair to have.
Everyone in Red Sox nation is up in arms following the Sox losing out on Pete Alonso to the Orioles. What kind of long-term consequences did Boston just put themselves in? Then, the Sox offer for Alonso appears to not be close to what he got meaning John Henry again installed a firm budget for Craig Breslow to spend. And, if Henry isn't giving out big contracts to help compete, what exactly is he doing then?

For this power hour we get into Craig Breslow making another deal for a pitcher which adds to a long list of moves to give the Red Sox more arms. Why is Breslow's resume toward adding pitching to the Sox a reason for fans to be nervous about the remaining offseason? Then, the stars won't be out for Celtics-Lakers, but Jaylen Brown is the star that will play and deserves to complete this season as the C's number one option. And, nothing is as American as football, but the President might want to change that.

We are still high on Sonny Gray coming to Boston. A major move that really balances out the Red Sox rotation. After seeing what Dylan Cease got in free agency, Craig Breslow did the right thing. You do not need a J.T. Realmuto. There are other screaming areas of need before you throw $20 million at a catcher position. Imagine throwing $20 million at Bregman? Or at the Foxy Lady's annual Legs and Eggs? We wrap things up with the most polarizing conversation of the Red Sox offseason - which outfielder to trade. Right before the Thanksgiving holiday, Red Sox fans aren't thankful for Craig Breslow acquiring Sonny Gray apparently. Why are fears of returning to a time of not spending still lingering with Sox fans? Then, Breslow said one thing during his press conference last night that was a big red flag in a time of a lot of green flags. And, the "Cousin Walk" is a classic Thanksgiving tradition that is being ruined by social media.
