COVID-19 has thrown our education system into chaos, and many B&M schools had to move to online learning. However, Stanford OHS has been doing virtual learning for almost a decade now, so listen in on this episode as the crew converses with Stanford OHS's principal, Dr. Tomohiro Hoshi. Ever wondered how online school students make friends/have friends? Interested in converting to online education or concerned about the social aspect of online school? The team invites Stanford OHS Alum, Kiron Allen, now a freshman at Santa Clara University, to join us as we explain and dissect the means of making and maintaining friendships in an online school. Kiron lays down the realities of attending and socializing in an online high school, the teenage drama, and the personal struggles that come with it.
This week we dive into a deep and personal conversation on toxic masculinity. Sam Chachkes, a brick and mortar student from Trinity School in NYC, joins us as he and Andrew share their personal experiences dealing with toxic masculinity and how they cope with it. The group tosses out their thoughts on where toxic masculinity stems from, how it assimilates into daily life. This issue is often talked about, but the severity of how it affects people isn’t. Meet high school junior and world traveler, Anthony Rebello, a passionate social activist and the executive director of the World Awareness Association. In this episode, learn how Anthony uses his platform to educate and spread awareness on a variety of modern-day topics, from indigenous rights, to LGBTQ+ exploration, to climate impact, to Black Lives Matter. Shivek Narang, the founder of OurTeenBrains, joins us for a discussion on the importance of empowering teenagers with knowledge on the inner-workings of their brains.
