As the world's first, number one, and only open source film photography podcast, we take pride in that in each episode you all get to influence the discussions we have.  For Episode 74, we decided to take it a step farther and dedicate the entire episode to two broad topics that listeners of this show have suggested to us.  The first is to cover the confusing and wide array of third party lenses and the second to go over some tips and tricks for home film development.  Never ones to disappoint our listeners, the gang took your suggestions to heart and turned both into a whole episode...mostly! Joining Anthony, Paul, Theo, and Mike was a full house of returning callers A.J. Gentile, Dan Cuny, Dan Hausman, Mario Piper, Michael Wescott (Wes) Loder, Miles Libak, Ray Nason, Robert Coates, Will Pinkham, and Mark (sorry, Mark, we didn't get your last name!) We quickly jump into a lens discussion first clarifying what exactly is considered a Third Party Lens maker?  From there the wormhole quickly opens as we bounce around with discussions regarding Asanuma, Vivitar, Kiron, and what Mike calls the "German B-List Lens Makers" like Steinheil, A.Schacht, Staeble, Enna-Werk, and many others. Wes jumps in and pivots the discussion to the vast array of lenses available for the Akarette/Akarelle and Lordomat systems, and then Mike quickly gets back on track professing his love for the Wirgin Edixa. We cover the Voigtländer Zoomar and the rash of very good Chinese lens makers like TTArtisan, 7Artisans, Light Lens Labs, and the obscure Japanese lens maker MS-Optics. For home development, we cover a whole host of hacks from doubling up on rolls of 120 on a single spool, how Mike pushes HC-110 to the absolute limit when developing black and white and Anthony chimes in with his suggestions for how to make shooting a Minox camera the most affordable way possible.  We get into other things like tips for flatbed scanning and what everyone thinks about digitizing.  It was certainly a live discussion, but I should probably stop typing here and encourage you to listen to the episode. For the next episode, we are revisiting one of our favorite brands of camera, Pentax!  Although we have dedicated multiple whole episodes to Pentax, this time we have Pentax historian Gerjan van Oosten who authored "The Ultimate Asahi Pentax Screw Mount Guide 1952 - 1977" which I consider to be one of the most definitive Pentax resources ever written.  The amount of info that Gerjan has about Pentax, Takumars, and everything relating to screw mounts is far more than we can ever hope to capture in a single episode, but we will certainly try!  To accommodate Gerjan's European time zone, Episode 75 will be recorded on Monday, August 5th at the special time of 2pm Central Daylight Time, 3pm Eastern Daylight Time, and 9pm Central European Time. The guys and I rarely know where each episode is going to go until it happens, so if you'd like to join us on a future episode, be sure to look out for our show announcements on our Camerosity Podcast Facebook page, the Camerosity Discord server, and right here on mikeeckman.com. We usually record every other Monday and announcements, along with the Zoom link are typically shared 2-3 days in advance.

In this week's Shortcut episode, we are joined by award-winning author and junior doctor, Roopa Farooki. In February 2020, Roopa - who is the daughter of the celebrated Pakistani novelist, Nasim Ahmed Farooki - lost her sister Kiron to breast cancer.  Then weeks later she found herself struggling to cope in an overstretched and under-resourced ITU department, caring for the critically ill Covid-19 patients who were arriving daily at an alarming rate. Her powerful memoir Everything is True, acclaimed by the Guardian as a 2022 must read, is a story of bravery at a time of personal grief and professional crisis - written in snatched moments between 13-hour shifts.   It's both moving and at times shocking with its brutally honest account of life on the NHS frontline.Roopa is not a woman to hold back about the challenges she and her colleagues faced, not least for her and others in the higher risk BAME demographic, but also of the betrayal she and others have felt following the No10 party revelations. As she says: “It still makes me angry, that while we were giving up an ITU bed for our Prime Minister they were not even personally following the rules that they put in place for the population, rules which were robbing relatives of their last moments with their families.”This is an immensely revealing and timely Crisis Shortcut episode providing a powerful perspective on the Covid crisis.Roopa's Crisis Cures: 1 - Routine. I think stick to what creates comfort in your routine. I always do half an hour of exercise and that includes a bit of yoga and I always feel better for doing it.2 – Writing.  I write a bit every day to try make some sense of what's happening in my life. As opposed to reading or doom-scrolling through what everyone else has thought, I think sometimes collect your own thoughts and to put them down. I think that's really, really helpful for me.3 - Believe in what you're passionate about. For me I've always been passionate about looking after my patients and providing care. There is nothing else that I would rather do than do what I do every day.Links: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Everything-True-junior-doctors-pandemic/dp/1526633396/ref=tmm_hrd_swatch_0?_encoding=UTF8&qid=1642006943&sr=8-1https://uk.bookshop.org/books/everything-is-true-a-junior-doctor-s-story-of-life-death-and-grief-in-a-time-of-pandemic/9781526633392https://www.waterstones.com/book/everything-is-true/dr-roopa-farooki/9781526633392Stream/Buy ‘Allies' by Some Velvet Morning: https://ampl.ink/qp6bm Some Velvet Morning Website: www.somevelvetmorning.co.uk

How can project management be a tool to build trust? Why is building trust and psychological safety so important for project teams and what are practical ways project managers can develop these assets? These questions and many more we're at the heart of our conversation with Kiron Bondale, a project management expert and Senior Consultant at World Class Productivity Inc. Kiron has worked in project management for over 25 years in a multitude of roles including project management office, leadership, delivery, and consulting. WENDY GROUNDS:  Welcome to Manage This, the podcast by project managers for project managers.  Listeners, remember if you're claiming PDUs, check out our website for the instructions for the new procedure.  I am Wendy Grounds, and in the studio with me is Bill Yates. BILL YATES:  Yeah.  I really enjoyed Kiron's book.  It's called “Easy in Theory, Difficult in Practice.”  He's a prolific writer.  He's been blogging for years.  And he'll describe what inspired him to write this book.  But this book is really practical, filled with advice for project managers, very topical.  We're going to poke into some of the examples, but I really encourage people to check it out.  Meet Kiron WENDY GROUNDS:  Kiron, welcome to Manage This.  Thank you so much for being our guest. KIRON BONDALE:  Thank you for giving me the opportunity.  I really appreciate it. WENDY GROUNDS:  I want to ask you first, why did you write the  book, and what was your thought behind this book? KIRON BONDALE:  Yes.  It really was prompted by a challenge my father had given me almost two decades ago now, where when I told him I was thinking about starting a blog, and he looked at me, and he kind of said, you know, blogs are for amateurs.  And this is in the early days, when there weren't a whole lot of people in the blogosphere.  But he kind of said, you know, forget about these 400, 500-word things.  If you want to be serious, write a book. And my father and I, we disagreed on a variety of topics over the time we spent together.  But that kind of challenge stayed in the back of my head all of these years.  And when I got to roughly about 500 articles in the blog, I started thinking, you know, rather than having to create something from scratch, there's enough good content there that it probably begs the question, could I not collate it, curate it, create a book from it?  And having some free time on my hands over the Christmas holidays last year,

Having been immersed in one of the world's most beloved cuisines, she's ready to get back to discovering the best of British.  Kiron Phillips set up RK Vodka with his brother Zan to produce a simple yet delicious new vodka. They use sugarbeet rather potatoes, which gives the tipple a more characterful taste. He even reckons that RK Vodka has converted a few confirmed gin and whisky drinkers to the cause! Because the company deals directly with stockists, from fine dining restaurants to village pubs, they can offer bespoke packages. This sparks a lively conversation about food pairings and what tasty treats go well with vodka. Kiron also enlightens us about his single distillation process and explains the science behind reverse osmosis filtered water (whatever). Finally, you can't talk about vodka without devoting a little time to cocktails. This versatile ingredient is very popular for creative alcoholic concoctions, so Kiron tells us more about the magic of mixology and the mystery of flavoured sugar syrups.

Meronne Teklu, Maren Kroeger, Mohammad Moataz Ghannam, Henner Kirchner Refugees often spend many years in transit, with restricted access to jobs and education. The internet and digital technology can provide a remedy to that, but often the basics are missing – be it appropriate bandwidth, the recognition of skills acquired online, or the right to work after completing training. E-learning has been around for almost a decade, and massive open online courses (MOOCs) from renowned universities such as MIT and Stanford available free online. The problem: refugees often lack the access or the means to take advantage of these opportunities. In response, new initiatives from the public and private sector are shifting the technological and social landscape in order to make e-learning more accessible to refugees and displaced people. So what is new? Software companies such as TechChange Inc. have developed online learning courses and modules for low bandwidth settings without sacrificing interactive tools, so students can interact socially in the e-learning environment. Social enterprises offer digital educational services. Kiron Open Higher Education e.g. uses digital innovation to provide refugees with access to quality higher education. Kiron's program consists of tailor-made curricula, a digital collaborative platform and an extensive range of supportive services. But is education enough? Does education automatically lead to jobs or help refugees integrate into host communities? The German Development Institute will tackle these question in a panel with Ms Maren Kröger, senior official for tertiary education at the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR), who will debate these issues together with Ms Maronne Telku from TechChange Inc, Mr. Henner Kirchner, from the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit's (GIZ) Jordan office, and Mr. Mohammad Moataz Ghannam, a student who started with Kiron Higher Open Education and has transferred to BAU Berlin. The insights from the panel will feed directly into policy recommendations on education and migration for the G20 meeting in Argentina, where member states will focus on standards for e-learning in an increasingly mobile, digital world.
