This week on the podcast, Jackie and Peter begin with a roundup of the latest developments in Canadian energy. They start by discussing Prime Minister Carney's remarks at the ASEAN Summit in Malaysia, where he suggested that Canada could export up to 50 million tonnes of LNG per year (about 6.5 Bcf/d) by 2030, with the potential to double that by 2040. They then turn to the upcoming federal budget, which is expected to include details about Canada's Climate Competitiveness Plan. Another key topic is President Trump's decision to suspend trade talks with Canada following controversy over Ontario's free-trade advertisement. Next, the hosts reflect on Peter's recent commentary in The Hub, titled “Even if Alberta gets a new pipeline, what's next for the oilsands?” Finally, Jackie talks about her recent appearance on a CBC podcast that explored whether Canada can build pipelines while fighting climate change. She explains why she felt the show's coverage was not balanced and shares her broader concerns about how climate and energy topics are often framed in mainstream Canadian media.Content referenced in this podcast: The Globe and Mail, “Carney's climate vision is to deprioritize emissions targets, focus on economic advantages” (October 14, 2025) The Hub “Peter Tertzakian: Even if Alberta gets a new pipeline, what's next for the oilsands?” (October 4, 2025) CAPP Data Centre, “The Economic Impact of Canadian Oil and Gas,” see slide 23 titled “Canada's Gross Domestic Product (GDP) by Industry | 2024” Government of Canada Publications, “Public Opinion Research on the National Adaptation Strategy,” (March 2025), see page 6: “A vast majority of people living in Canada (84%) consider climate change an important issue” Angus Reid Institute, “Pipeline Push: Majority of Canadians, including BC Residents support the idea of a pipeline to the north coast” (October 9, 2025) CBC Ideas Podcast “Can we have new pipelines and curb climate change too?” October 7, 2025Please review our disclaimer at: https://www.arcenergyinstitute.com/disclaimer/ Check us out on social media: X (Twitter): @arcenergyinstLinkedIn: @ARC Energy Research Institute Subscribe to ARC Energy Ideas PodcastApple PodcastsAmazon MusicSpotify

In April, President Trump declared a national emergency and assumed the power to levy tariffs, introducing uncertainty into global trading by reneging on previously negotiated agreements. One of the attorneys representing the challengers to the president's decree in Trump v. VOS is Stanford Law Professor Michael McConnell, a constitutional law expert and former Tenth Circuit judge. The case, which the U.S. Supreme Court has expedited, is set to have ramifications well beyond trade. As McConnell wrote in a recent New York Times op-ed: “The tariff litigation is shaping up as the biggest separation-of-powers controversy since the steel seizure case in 1952…Understandably, most of the commentary has focused on the practical ramifications for the president's trade negotiations and the American economy. But the cases may be even more important for the future of a fundamental component of the Constitution's architecture: the separation of powers, intended by the founders to prevent any of the government's three branches from becoming all powerful.” McConnell joins Pam Karlan and Diego Zambrano for a discussion about this important case, exploring whether presidents have the authority to tax through tariffs without clear congressional approval, the historical and constitutional roots of "no taxation without representation," and the seismic ramifications of a redefinition of the limits of executive economic power.Links:Michael McConnell >>> Stanford Law pageConnect:Episode Transcripts >>> Stanford Legal Podcast WebsiteStanford Legal Podcast >>> LinkedIn PagePam Karlan >>> Stanford Law School PageDiego Zambrano >>> Stanford Law School PageStanford Law School >>> Twitter/XStanford Lawyer Magazine >>> Twitter/X Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. Dean Foreman, Chief Economist, Texas Oil & Gas Association joined Grayson Brulte on The Road to Autonomy podcast to discuss how record-breaking global energy demand and Texas's energy dominance are reshaping markets amid the AI revolution and shifting geopolitical dynamics. With the Energy Information Administration (EIA) projecting consecutive oil demand records of 103.7 million barrels per day in 2025 and 104.9 million barrels per day in 2026, Texas has emerged as the undisputed energy powerhouse, now producing 42% of US oil and 30% of US natural gas while generating $27.3 billion in state tax revenue and supporting over 1.3 million jobs. The Permian Basin continues to demonstrate remarkable productivity gains, delivering 20% more output using 40% fewer rigs compared to 2018-2019 levels through advanced data analytics and re-fracking technologies. This efficiency revolution has enabled Texas to account for 80% of US oil growth year-to-date while natural gas demand reaches record highs of 148.7 trillion cubic feet globally. Despite economic headwinds including record $18.4 trillion household debt and softening labor indicators, energy markets continue to show resilience with diesel demand up 4% and jet fuel climbing 5% year-over-year, reflecting continued industrial activity and travel recovery.Natural gas is rapidly becoming the critical infrastructure powering AI data centers and the digital economy, with hyperscalers increasingly turning to co-located natural gas generation for reliable 24/7 electricity. As geopolitical tensions create new energy partnerships between Russia and China through proposed pipelines capable of 5 billion cubic feet per day, and Europe relies on up to 75% of Texas LNG exports during peak periods, traditional energy resources prove foundational not just to current economic prosperity but to the future of automation, artificial intelligence, and global technological advancement.Episode Chapters0:00 Weakening U.S. Dollar & Interest Rates2:21 Growing Household Debt4:20 Emerging Markets & Supply Chains5:27 Growing Natural Gas Demand12:49 Growing Global Oil Demand16:51 Potential Weakening U.S. Economy18:33 Global Oil Supply21:27 China24:49 Europe29:55 Permian Basin 32:58 ADS Business Conditions Index34:33 Tech's Impact on Oil & Natural Gas Industry36:03 Texas Oil & Natural Gas Industry's Economic Impact 37:52 Next QuarterRecorded on Thursday, September 4, 2025--------About The Road to AutonomyThe Road to Autonomy provides market intelligence and strategic advisory services to institutional investors and companies, delivering insights needed to stay ahead of emerging trends in the autonomy economy™. In this thought-provoking episode of "Father and Joe," hosts Father Boniface and Joe Rockey dive into the complexities of artificial intelligence and its impact on human relationships, work, and spirituality. They continue their discussion from the previous week, sharpening their focus on the socio-economic reasons behind AI's rapid growth and its ethical implications.Joe opens the conversation by exploring how AI is often implemented to replace high turnover roles rather than enhance employee productivity or improve workplace conditions. He raises concerns about using AI as a substitute for ethical treatment of employees, emphasizing that enhancing productivity should not come at the cost of human relationships and well-being. Automation, while beneficial for producing goods, should not be a means to avoid accountability for treating employees with dignity and respect.Father Boniface offers a spiritual perspective, reminding listeners that work's intrinsic value lies not in the outward results but in its ability to form character and virtue in individuals. He emphasizes the eternal significance of personal growth over material production, advocating for an economy that centers around people rather than profits. The episode explores the ancient wisdom that human dignity and relationships must remain paramount. With anecdotes from sales and real-world applications of AI, Joe and Father Boniface discuss how an ethical application of these technologies can serve humanity. They caution against reducing people to mere production agents, a theme resonant with historical reflections from Pope Leo XIII and Pope John Paul II, urging listeners to consider how automation should be integrated thoughtfully into both personal and professional spheres. In a world where AI can deliver B+ answers, they argue, the objective shouldn't be to automate love and human interaction. Instead, they propose fostering environments where development is experiences-based, incorporating AI as a tool rather than a replacement for personal engagement. Father Boniface shares his unique experiences of leveraging AI for personal intellectual growth while maintaining the primacy of human relationships and critical thinking. As the episode concludes, Father Boniface and Joe reinforce the notion that the economy should pivot around human growth and ethical practices—not monitory gain. Encouraging listeners to engage in thoughtful dialogue and explore AI's potential responsibly, they hope to inspire a culture that truly values love and human interaction above technological efficiency.Tags:AI Discussion, Automation, Human Relationships, Spiritual Growth, Ethical AI, Artificial Intelligence, Economic Impact, Work Ethics, Podcast Discussion, Father and Joe, Technology and Humanity, Moral Philosophy, AI Ethics, Labor and AI, Workplace Well-being, Team Dynamics, Human Dignity, Pope Francis, Pope John Paul II, Sales Ethics, Personal Growth, Spiritual Reflection, Podcast Episode, Father Boniface, Joe Rockey, Love and Production, Human-Centered Economy, Virtue Development, Intellectual Growth, AI Mistakes, Public Discourse, AI Advisory, Tech in Society, Socio-economic Debate, Moral Implications, AI Integration, Ethical Conversations, Understanding AI, Relationship Building, Modern Challenges, Hashtags:#ArtificialIntelligence #AIandEthics #HumanRelationships #AutomationImpact #SpiritualGrowth #WorkplaceEthics #PodcastDiscussion #FatherAndJoe #TechAndHumanity #MoralPhilosophy #AI #EconomicImpact #LaborAndAI #Teamwork #HumanDignity #PopeFrancis #PopeJohnPaulII #SalesEthics #PersonalGrowth #SpiritualReflection #PodcastEpisode #LoveAndProduction #HumanCentered #Economy #VirtueDevelopment #IntellectualGrowth #PublicDiscourse #AIAdvisory #TechSociety #SocioEconomicDebate #MoralImplications #AIIntegration #Conversations #UnderstandingAI #ModernChallenges #CommunityGrowth #EthicalAI

Mass protests are erupting in Britain, Germany, and the Netherlands over unchecked migration and crime. Leaders like German Chancellor Friedrich Merz admit that their welfare states can no longer sustain massive entitlement spending for migrants who entered illegally. Victor Davis Hanson lays out why Europe's future hangs in the balance and what steps it must take to restore stability, security, and common sense on today's episode of “Victor Davis Hanson: In His Own Words.” “The whole socialist paradigm is not producing goods and service that allow such general entitlements. The borders are insecure. Illegal immigrants are not assimilated, acculturated, integrated into the German, French, European body politic. And they're gonna have a terrible time spending 5% of GDP to defend themselves. This is in addition to having to lower their $200 billion surplus with the United States. “We know what Europe has to do. It has to return to commonsense energy policies; use their natural gas, use oil, to the extent they have it; build nuclear plants; be competitive on the world market, in terms of energy cost. They need to secure their borders. They need to have legal-only immigration. They need to prune back the state, the socialist state. Can they do it?”
