Today on ‘Licensed Psychologist, Now What?' Podcast I am presenting you a three-part series where I talk about my experience in reconnecting with the gifts and desires that drive our Soul. Pt. 1 is about finding what gets in the way because if we can't clear out the things that get in the way of finding what our soul desires it is going to be a lot harder to find or reclaim our gifts/medicine or how I like to call it, your medicinas. We start with an assessment and some of the questions I ask are: Where do you come from? Who are your ancestors? What land do you come from? What is your lineage? Today on ‘Licensed Psychologist, Now What? Podcast' I have the honor and privilege to introduce you to Becca Piastrelli @beccapiastrelli, fellow mama, author, and podcaster. This was a special interview for me because I received a message about Becca being interested in coming on my podcast and I already knew her work and book and loved her message so I couldn't believe she wanted to talk to me, a real star-struck moment for sure! Our conversation centered around her book: ‘Root & Ritual' which came out in November of 2021. We also talked about all things about becoming a mama during the pandemic and how the feeling of belonging felt absent for so many but in our case, it hit closer to home as we were women living through a major milestone which is welcoming motherhood. Having a baby during this difficult time without access to the community made it so much harder, so, for me in particular listening to these messages of belonging that she shares was needed now more than ever. It's so important for a person to feel they belong, doesn't matter the season they are in, to one-self, to a community, the importance to find this sense of belonging can help us move forward and live a better life. To find out more about Becca you can follow her on Instagram, check out her website, listen to her podcast or you can read her book: Root & Ritual. This episode of ‘Licensed psychologist, Now What? Podcast is being published on the Winter Solstice (a couple day earlier than the usual schedule). There are a few reasons for that but one of the most important ones was because of my guest on the show today. She is a very special person and one of the most inspiring person's I have met. Through her teachings I am learning to honor the season changes especially the darkness that involves the Winter Solstice. This year in particular I had a lot of releasing of old patterns, and I have confronted a lot of uncertainty. My old self would have tried to figure out the issues and kept going but this time, especially this year I have allowed myself to sit in the darkness, to explore the unknown, I have allowed my body and mind to rest and to really listen to the inner voice that guides my life. Today it is my honor and privilege to introduce you to Asha Frost, @asha.frost, Indigenous Healer. On this amazing interview we talk about her journey, her struggles, what brought her into her calling and how she felt the need to answer the call from her ancestors. Her message of dismantling and reclaiming our own space has resonated so profoundly with so many people and to be able to help spread her message in this space was very important for me because of how much it has helped me personally. Today on, ‘Licensed Psychologist, Now What?' Podcast I talk about my own journey. Before jumping into what this episode is about I wanted to THANK YOU! It really gives my purpose a lot more meaning knowing that I am connecting with people that are enjoying and learning from what this show offers. After living what has been a very intense year (or two but who's counting?) I can finally say that I have been able to start the process where I am rediscovering my medicina (medicine) by really aligning with my own truth. Today I wanted to share where I am in this process and even though I haven't reached the end of the road, as there is still a lot more work to do I have discovered what I can call my gifts as a healer, my medicina, and how things have shifted in my personal and professional life giving me the opportunity to bring them forward to the world. Can you identify those things in your life that were facts at some point in time but no longer serve you? Are you in a moment of change in your life? It's not easy to go through these changes in life and it can affect whole families because sometimes it means diverting from what our ancestors did so I have been very gentle when it comes to sharing these changes. As I continue to do the work in all aspects of life, motherhood, business-wise, and finding my path to make it better for me and the ones around me I have to remind myself it's not perfect and that is OKAY. My wish for you is if you are going through a transition to give yourself the space to really do it and feel good about it. Enjoy your Holiday time! If any of this is dear to your heart please help me by sharing this message so more people can benefit from it. She currently specializes in Trauma Psychology and works mostly with the LatinX community which she enjoys immensely because she feels she can give back to her community and help fill the gaps and voids these people suffer in their everyday life. We also talk about her challenges being a Latina in the industry especially about dealing with Impostor Syndrome, and how she has been able to heal by talking about her issues and giving herself the time and care she needs as an individual. Her story of a first-generation Latinx woman is an inspiring example. Yuritzy was able to figure out early in her life that her calling was to help her community in any way she could and by listening to this call she became the therapist and coach she is today not before breaking the barriers that come with the conditioning that trained therapists are subject to in their journey to become a licensed therapist. Even though she still treats patients in CA, she also offers Life Coaching which is a service she can provide to people anywhere in the Country. Andrea's expertise is on people whose frontal lobe is not fully developed yet (as she describes it). Her patient base is kids ranging from 3 yrs old to early '20s. She balances her life between her family (husband and 2 kids) and her private practice, and today she's here to share with us how she balances it all! Andrea enjoys working with kids and since the beginning of her career as she began to discover her path she knew children were the audience she wanted to help. From personal experiences with therapy to being exposed to books and movies that portrayed what children go through in real life, it became clear to her that what fulfilled her professionally was to be able to enter a child's world through play in a way that supports them mentally. Her mission also includes helping parents who are trying to help their kids succeed and flourish by coming into their own in the best way possible. As she embarks on to the next step in her journey where she is homeschooling her kids, she acknowledges how challenging this can be besides parenting, but she has learned to tap into the resources her community offers and believes that the ultimate goal for every person is to be able to find balance. Today's episode wraps up the journey I have been through to become the Licensed Psychologist I am today and where my life has taken me on this continuous path of growth and evolution. I invite you to listen to this episode as I share some of the memories of leaving my agency work continuing on to the beginning of starting my private practice, until today. Many emotions unravel as I talk about all the things that lead me to this moment; from reinventing how to operate my business, to trusting my gut and connecting to my inner calling, to focusing on the things that really give me joy by recognizing my season in life and learning how to move forward this way. Through this journey I had to recognize and deal with things that you might relate to like: Imposter syndrome feelings from charging money. Struggling as a business owner, because I don't have an entrepreneur background or example in my family. Living on a go-go mentality was quickly making me feel burnout to make up for all the things I felt I needed to accomplish. I share some things that have helped me in this evolution and although it's still a work in progress it has definitely helped me have a more balanced work/family life. Recognizing my strengths and focusing on my expertise Surrounding myself with people and learning to rely on their ability to help me accomplish my goals. To which I have to say, I am very grateful for my team! Anna Olvina, my graphic designer and SM expert, Susana Romero my Podcast Audio editor, and my Podcast producer; Rossana Garcia-Stella. Joining mastermind programs like Kate Northrup's and Nisha Moodley's. Integrating systems and automatization of the programs I use for my practice and for the podcast. In today's episode of ‘Licensed Psychologist, Now, What? I take you on a little journey from the time I started my predoctoral internship in Los Angeles, California to when I went full-time in my private practice a few years ago. At the beginning of this process, I went through big, significant changes in my life, like moving to Los Angeles, CA after having lived my whole life in the sheltered life of the island to a city like LA. At this time I started dealing with feelings of ‘less-of' as I was struggling with the language barrier, not having a clear racial/ethnic identity, and numerous situations that I experienced during these years. The transition from being a full-time student to a full time-intern, to doing my dissertation long-distance, to completing my Post-Doctoral, to full-time employee started to take a toll on my health. The pressure and some of the feedback that I received were less than ideal, but this is when I anchored on the negative energy to help fuel the power within me. As a result, I was able to pass the boards and become a Licensed Psychologist. My husband and I briefly moved back to Puerto Rico but eventually came back to LA where I finalized my licensing process for Puerto Rico and then in California. After some frustrating job situations, I found myself setting the path to my private practice and took the leap! Tune in next week to listen to the final part of my story of how I became a Licensed Psychologist and the development of my private practice until today. Welcome to another episode of my new Podcast, Licensed Psychologist, Now What? Today I continue to embark you on my journey by talking a little more in-depth about my education which was mostly from Catholic Schools and a very traditional upbringing. Experiences like one I had at a Summer Camp started to open my eyes to the world out there and took me on a road where critical thinking and all of the things I took for granted in my life suddenly felt different than before. I talk about my school experiences, like how I experienced my first important lessons of failure as I started Grad School but at the same time, they ended up teaching me important lessons of determination and showed me that when you work towards something you can get it. I was able to reclaim my power and love of speaking and as I reflect on my story it helps me show you how I got to where I am today.
