These insights from leading design studios reveal opportunities that play to your natural strengths rather than working against them – and isn't that the kind of trend worth paying attention to?   Key Moments: [01:53] Introduction to Creative Boom's 2025 design trends report [03:03] The importance of balancing trend awareness with authentic creative values [04:14] The AI-Human Balance: AI moving beyond ideation to final outputs [06:09] The counter-movement: returning to handcrafted, human-centered design [07:43] The #StarterPackNoAI movement as an example of reclaiming creative space [09:22] The return to physical experiences and creating meaning in a digital world  [12:28] The craft renaissance: personalisation, sustainability, and technology integration [14:25] Design experimentation and breaking away from template-driven sameness [16:30] "Minimalist Maximalism" as an emerging visual approach  [18:50] How these trends create opportunities for small creative businesses   Notable Quotes: "The most successful creative businesses don't blindly follow every trend but thoughtfully incorporate relevant elements that align with their own authentic approach." "This isn't an either/or situation but a rebalancing, where we're getting clearer about where technology adds value and where human creativity remains irreplaceable." If you're like many podcasters I talk with, your little voice in your head can sometimes throw you off course. Influence begins with confidence. BECOMING A PERSON OF INFLUENCE Impostor Syndrome is just someone pretending to be someone else. It is self doubt. To overcome Impostor Syndrome, just be yourself. Stop pretending. It starts as a vision of who you truly are. That vision can build your confidence and help build your influence. When you be yourself, you're not faking it. You are working to be who you really are. It is so much easier to be you rather than pretending to be someone else. Your confidence will grow. Have the courage to step into your true self. Start by sharing one small story about yourself on your podcast. Your tribe will love you for it. This is the beginning of growing your influence. MELINDA LEE On this episode, we're diving into the transformative power of voice, flow, and authentic connection with our special guest, Melinda Lee. Melinda Lee is a Presentation Skills Expert, Speaking Coach, and nationally renowned Motivational Speaker. She holds an M.A. in Organizational Psychology, is an Insights Practitioner, Certified Professional in Talent Development, as well as Certified in Conflict Resolution. For over a decade, Melinda has researched and studied the state of "flow" and used it as a proven technique to help corporate leaders and business owners amplify their voices, access flow, and present their mission in a more powerful way to achieve results. Melinda brings a wealth of experience as a presentation skills expert and speaking coach for TEDx Berkeley. She shares her journey from overcoming impostor syndrome to landing major clients like Google, and how aligning her words with her intentions has attracted more opportunities her way. She has worked with thousands of executives and teams from Facebook, to the Army Corp of Engineers, and more. She is breaking the ancestral lineage of silence. During our conversation, Melinda unpacks the misconceptions about public speaking and highlights the importance of inspiring change rather than mere teaching. Sparking inspiration is an important step to developing influence. She explains how achieving a flow state can elevate our public speaking, influence, and overall communication skills. Through personal stories and practical advice, Melinda reveals how to access this flow and maintain it, even under high pressure. IMPOSTOR SYNDROME VS INFLUENCE One of the key topics Melinda addresses is overcoming Impostor Syndrome, a common issue even among successful professionals. She candidly shares her personal strategies for confronting and processing fears rather than ignoring them, detailing how this mindset shift has empowered her in her career. Overcoming Impostor Syndrome is the first step to becoming a person of influence. Melinda's journey from facing skepticism to winning over tough audiences highlights the importance of embodying feelings and connecting deeply with both oneself as well as the audience. We get into common misconceptions about public speaking, emphasizing that it goes far beyond just teaching. Effective speakers are those who can inspire change and transform lives by conveying not just the "how" but the "why." Focusing on "why" over "how" is a key component of influence. Through transformational speaking and podcasting, podcasters can build deeper connections with their listeners by exuding authenticity and engaging from the heart. MINDSET EXERCISE You will find great value in our conversation when Melinda introduces an exercise designed to help speakers move from being in their heads to speaking from the heart. One such exercise involves shifting self-affirmations from "I am a confident speaker" to "I am grateful to be a confident speaker," a simple yet powerful change that fosters greater connection and openness. Additionally, Melinda discusses the significance of self-awareness and self-reflection in overcoming barriers to communication and achieving peak performance. This step will help your influence blossom. Whether you're a podcaster looking to connect more deeply with your audience or a speaker aiming to transform lives, this episode is packed with insights to help you elevate your voice and impact. So, get ready to feel inspired and get in flow with our conversation featuring the incredible Melinda Lee. Or what can I do to work for you for free? The problem with that approach is that by asking, without showing, you're actually making the other person do more work to figure out who you are and if you're any good and what you can actually help with... And so the question that I ask myself, and I encourage people listening to this to ask is, how can I make this a no brainer for the other person? And that kind of ties back into that empathy, right? Putting yourself in the other person's perspective... To work with your favorite entrepreneur or company, basically, you need to show two things, that, number one, you want the job, and number two, that you can do the job. And the best way that I believe you can do that is to do the work upfront, to use the TAG method, to do what I like to call pre-work. And I think the coolest thing about this approach is you don't have to have any experience or, you know, credibility or a degree." — Jay Yang [00:12:46 → 00:13:13]Overcoming Impostor Syndrome in Content Creation: "I only have to be one chapter ahead of the textbook of life. Like, you don't have to be the guru preaching at the top of the mountain. You just have to be one or two steps ahead of the people behind you and the people you're sharing content to. So that's kind of what I'm realizing is, as I grow my brand, I'm not trying to be the professor at the front of the class. The way I like to view myself is as that kid in the back sharing his notes with the rest of his classmates." — Jay Yang, [00:25:21 → 00:25:49]Show notes powered by Castmagic---Have any questions about the show or topics you'd like us to explore further?Shoot us a DM; we'd love to hear from you.Want the weekly TL;DR of tips delivered to your mailbox?Check out our newsletter here.Follow us for content, clips, giveaways, & updates!Castmagic InstagramCastmagic TwitterCastmagic LinkedIn  ---Blaine Bolus - Co-Founder of CastmagicRamon Berrios - Co-Founder of CastmagicJay Yang - Head of Content at AppSumo

Today we're diving into the topic of overcoming impostor syndrome. In this episode, we explore the insidious ways impostor syndrome can manifest in our lives: 1. **Seeking External Validation:** Relying on others' approval to feel worthy, even when we've achieved success. 2. **Crippling Self-Doubt:** Allowing impostor syndrome to undermine our confidence and hinder our ability to make decisions. 3. **Fear of Success:** Subconsciously sabotaging our own progress due to a deep-seated belief that we're not deserving of our achievements. Drawing from personal experiences and insights, I share practical strategies to combat impostor syndrome: 1. **Celebrating Wins:** Taking time to acknowledge and celebrate even the smallest victories empowers us to recognise our worth. 2. **Preparation and Practice:** Thoroughly preparing for tasks or projects helps alleviate anxiety and boosts confidence. 3. **Self-Affirmation:** Embracing self-praise, free from the constraints of cultural stigma, reinforces our sense of self-worth and diminishes the grip of impostor syndrome. Join me as we navigate the complexities of impostor syndrome and embark on a journey towards self-acceptance and empowerment. **Past Episode References:** - Episode 12: Toxic Friendships: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iATOLZd9KEk&list=PLMsxgKktXsjbYxCMgQINuPV6WE6nB8soR&index=80 - Episode 9: Lies We Believe: Exposing the Mindsets that Limit Growth: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0VhPxdD7QkQ&list=PLMsxgKktXsjbYxCMgQINuPV6WE6nB8soR&index=83 Thank you for tuning in! There is a paradox that lies at the heart of impostor syndrome. On the one hand, people feel that they are incompetent in their role and that it is only a matter of time before their more competent colleagues catch on. And on the other hand, people also believe that they are competent enough to hide their incompetence from people more competent than they are. This duality is almost humorously non-sensical, and appreciating it can go a long way toward resolving the syndrome. However, just for good measure, in this episode, I also discuss how to overcoming feeling like an impostor with actionable steps.
