This metaphor suggests that we often limit ourselves by our perceptions and beliefs, much like birds born in a cage might perceive the ability to fly as a sickness. This idea compels us to examine the constraints we often impose on ourselves and the dynamic life system around us—one that thrives on growth, evolution, and transformation.

In today's Podcast we take a moment to reflect on a powerful belief that guides us here at NU Breed Volleyball: "What is to give light must endure burning."  This phrase encapsulates the essence of our journey as athletes and as a team. We envision brightness, hope, and guidance when we think about light. But the truth is, the light we aspire to share takes time. It requires endurance, resilience, and a willingness to embrace challenges head-on. Imagine a candle. It gives off a beautiful light that illuminates the darkness, yet it does so only by sacrificing itself, burning down with every flicker. In many ways, we are like that candle. To shine on the court and in life, we must be willing to endure the heat and the struggle that comes with pursuing excellence. 

The Leap of Faith “If I fall, I must fall for I trust the one I am becoming will catch me.” This powerful declaration reminds us that the journey of personal growth is a sacred trust we place in ourselves. Delayed start to the audio.*** "Closing a chapter, opening another," echoed the insightful words of Coach Dave Rubio, a celebrated volleyball coach and a beloved figure in the University of Arizona athletic community. With his retirement, the prominent volleyball figure ended an impressive 31-year-long tenure at the collegiate level. Still, rather than retiring his passion for the sport altogether, Rubio refocused his energy towards the foundation of volleyball, youth development, and grassroots coaching.

Dinuba native, COS and Fresno State alum and Atlanta Braves pitcher (well known for starting the 4th game in the 2021 World Series), Dylan Lee, talks with Coach Job about how his faith and humble beginnings has been the driving force behind his success in not only baseball but life. Lee has also been proactive in giving back to his community and the Valley through his nonprofit Leaders and Lures where he inspires change positive action.

University of Arizona head volleyball coach, Rita Stubbs, joins Job on this month's Match Point Podcast. The two discuss how Coach Stubbs almost washed out of volleyball in college, much less coaching. And offered some helpful tips from what she has learned from her coaching career.

Job holds an interview with Penn State women's volleyball coach, Russ Rose. Through the end of 2019, his coaching record is 1299–212, which ranks first in NCAA Division I. Together they talk about Rose's career in coaching and how he has managed to create a culture of sustainable success.

Job talks with Samantha Bricio, a Mexican volleyball player who was the youngest player to play for the Mexico national team in its history. Bricio played in the 2009 FIVB Girls Youth World Championship and again in 2011, finishing twelfth. Together they talk about how Samantha has become an inspiration to young Mexican girl who dream to play volleyball as a professional.

Coaches Job and Chan sit down with Long Beach Volleyball coach Jenny Hahn. 

Jenny has served as the Junior Volleyball Association Executive Director since 2010. She co-founded Milwaukee Sting VBC in 1989 serving as director, head coach and board member through today. She served as Operations Director and then Executive Director of Badger Region Volleyball Association from 1998-2010. Jenny is passionate about junior volleyball and sees the JVA as a vehicle to improve the junior club experience for club directors, coaches and the club member families.

Job and Chan talk with  who is Nabil Mardini is considered one of the finest volleyball minds in the region, if not the country. As Head Coach of the Pierce Women’s Volleyball Program, Nabil saw his 2010, 2011, and 2012 squads win back-to-back-to-back CCCAA California State Championships, with the added bonus of Nabil being named AVCA National Two-Year College Coach of the Year in 2010 and 2012. 

Job and Chan sit down with Fresno City College Coach Kieran Roblee. She has spent 28+ years in coaching and 24+ years in education.  She has spent most of her professional career coaching volleyball at the college, elite club and high school varsity levels. Coach Roblee is a former standout setter for the Fresno State Volleyball team where she was the all-time single season assist leader and the career leader in assists in only two seasons.  She is a native of Santa Barbara and played and received her A.A. degree from Santa Barbara City College.  Roblee was an All-State selection in 1988 and the Western State Athletic Conference MVP that same year.  In 1989 the Santa Barbara Athletic Round Table Hall of Fame named her the College Women’s Volleyball Player of the Year and in 2010 was inducted into the Santa Barbara Athletic Round Table Hall of Fame. 

Coaches Job Lara and Chan Jones interview Arizona State Volleyball head coach David Rubio about his coaching career. Rubio has led the Wildcats to 14 20-win seasons and 20 NCAA appearances. In 2018, became the second coach in Pac-10/12 history to win 500 career matches. Honored as Coach of the Year by ASICS/Volleyball Magazine during the 2001 campaign, guiding Arizona to its first-ever national semi-final appearance. Pac-10 Coach of the Year in 2000, leading UA to its first Pac-10 title. Leads all active conference coaches with 512 victories as a Pac-12 coach. Guided Arizona from a winless league record in 1991, the year prior to his arrival, to the NCAA West Regionals in 1993. Named 1993 American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) West Region Coach of the Year.
