On 4 September 2024, the town of Winder in the US state of Georgia became the latest scene of a school mass shooting. Two students and two teachers were killed. The suspect was 14 years old. The deadly attack at Apalachee High School left a community torn apart by guns and brought together in grief. In each of the previous four years there have been more than 600 mass shootings in the United States - almost two a day on average. Edward Stourton has been to Georgia to visit the church community attached to the high school, as they try to make sense of the violence in their hometown. He meets Pastor Frank Burnat and his pastoral team, who are ministering to a community in which both God and guns are a part of everyday life.
This Easter, pastors and teachers are going to offer outsiders a way to reconnect with God because that is essentially the business of religion. But what if access to God is outside of religion? What would your pastor say about that? In today's podcast and post we consider our first of three Easter parables which […] The post 487- 1 of 3 Easter Parables to the Religious appeared first on Keven Winder.

Tanaya Winder and her friends in the indigenous community wanted to raise awareness about the estimated 1,181 missing and murdered indigenous women. They asked for donations of 1,181 single-sided earrings to represent each woman. These days, it also means standing up for local people who try to help their vulnerable neighbours. “By far the majority of humanitarian workers killed or injured in crisis situations are local workers,” he says. “That has to change and be recognized as a critical issue for the global community.”
