Life is Short—Seek Wisdom (Psalm 90) Daniel Nealon May 18, 2025 by Deer Creek Church
Pastor Josh delivers a powerful and heartfelt word on what it truly means to behold Jesus — not from a distance, but through deep, personal encounter.
"If you seek it like silver and search for it as for hidden treasures, then you will understand the fear of the Lord and find the knowledge of God." Proverbs 2:4
Isaiah 35:5-6 and 42:6-7; Luke 4:16-20 Jesus understood from the Scriptures that he was to heal the blind. However, there was no specific instruction given on how to do it. So how did he know what to do? Matthew 12:22-23 With the possessed blind and mute man, he cast out the demon. Matthew 20:29-34 Two blind men cried out to him. Moved with compassion, Jesus touched their eyes. Mark 8:22-26 Jesus took the blind man from Bethsaida by the hand and led him out spitting on his eyes and laying hands on him. The man was not instantly healed. Mark 10:46-52 In Jericho, Jesus said, “Go, your faith has made you whole.” John 9:1-41 He spat on the ground and made clay of the spittle and applied the clay to his eyes. Go wash in the pool of Siloam. Each incident required its own unique application, so how did he know? Proverbs 1:20-23 Wisdom calls out everywhere. Proverbs 8:1-12 Wisdom is readily available all the time. Proverbs 9:1-6 Jesus understood the availability of wisdom James 1:5-8 God gives it generously and without reproach. Proverbs 4:1-12 Accurate knowledge is essential, but by itself it is not enough. We need wisdom, just like Jesus needed it. Proverbs 15:2; 18:2; 26:11; 13:20 We have a deficiency−the lack of wisdom. However, this can be our greatest asset for it forces dependency and communication with God. Luke 2:40, 52 Jesus grew in wisdom. Solomon and David lost their wisdom Eph. 1:17; Col. 1:9 Pray for knowledge, wisdom, and understanding. The post Seek Wisdom first appeared on Living Hope.

Seeking Wisdom and Its Benefits Petrina discussed the importance of seeking wisdom and the benefits it brings. She highlighted the Book of Proverbs in the Old Testament, written by Solomon, as a source of wisdom. She emphasized the need to let go of distractions and hindrances to gain wisdom, and that wisdom is available for all who seek it. She also mentioned that the rest of the book talks about the benefits of seeking wisdom, such as having knowledge that brings ease and peace. She encouraged her audience to meditate on their choices and decisions, and to apply wisdom and knowledge to their responsibilities. She concluded by inviting her audience to delve into the Book of Proverbs, specifically chapter one, and to join her in the next session where they will discuss chapter two. INtro: Ecclesiastes 9:10 (NIV) “Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with all your might, for in the realm of the dead, where you are going, there is neither working nor planning nor knowledge nor wisdom.” Now is the time Slayer! 5 Things Every Christian Entrepreneur Should Know As a Christian entrepreneur, your faith can provide a strong foundation for your business endeavors. Here are 5 essential things to keep in mind: God's Sovereignty: Recognize that God is ultimately in control of your business. Trust in His plan and seek His guidance in every decision. But don't misplace handwork with faith. I have put on dozens of Permit to carry classes and we have had over almost 2000 people come in the last 5 years… We prayed over the events, we called out in faith what we believe and expected to happen… but I also worked my butt off. Working on social media posts, handing out posters, building teams, answering thousands of emails, dealing with the haters and the skeptics, building a budget, raising money etc… It takes hard work! Period… James 2:17 Thus also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead. 18 But someone will say, “You have faith, and I have works.” Show me your faith without your works, and I will show you my faith by my works. Ethical Business Practices: Align your business practices with biblical principles of honesty, integrity, and fairness. This can build trust with customers and partners. God cannot bless tilted scales… what do I mean by that? If you are trying to fudge, stretch the truth, lie, manipulate, take shortcuts, cut back on Quality, over promise and under deliver… God won't bless that. Generosity and Giving Back: Use your business as a platform to give back to your community and support charitable causes. This can be a powerful way to make a positive impact. You really want to see your business take off? Tithe on what you make. If my business makes $500 each month, I am tithing $50 to a church or ministry. God cannot bless seed that you do not sow… when you are hurting is the best time to sow. Work-Life Balance: Prioritize your relationship with God, family, and friends. A strong support system can help you navigate the challenges and stresses of entrepreneurship. Look, if your business keeps you so busy that you can't keep your quite time with him, your reading and prayer time… it's probably best your business dies so you have more time to spend with him. Start ups are a million miles a second and that's when they are struggling… so if you don't practice that discipline now, you won't when you become successful. Seek Wisdom and Guidance: Continuously seek guidance from God and wise mentors. This can help you make informed decisions and avoid common pitfalls. Remember, your faith can be a source of strength, inspiration, and purpose as you build your business.

In our latest episode, "Sharing the Sacred Wisdom of the Grandmother's," I had an amazing conversation with Heather Hall Dudney about what it was like growing up the daughter of a world renowned medicine woman, Grandmother Flordemayo and how her mother's teachings shaped who she became. We discussed the value of seeking wisdom from indigenous grandmothers, the importance of supporting elders, and the joy of sharing positive wisdom in today's chaotic world. Heather shares the story of “The Path”, Grandmother Flordemayo's vision, their non-profit and the seed temple that is her mother's legacy and we take you behind the scenes of our time together supporting these elders in Miami and Sedona. You'll love how funny our stories are! We also invite you to come join us for a variety of events with the Grandmother's this fall in Sedona, Santa Fe, Michigan and Rhode Island. Trending with Timmerie - Catholic Principals applied to today's experiences.
Feminism doesn't affect you in any way, right? Well, maybe it does, in a sneaky sort of way. Timmerie recently had a great conversation with Dr. Carrie Gress, author of The End of Woman: How Smashing the Patriarchy Destroyed Us. Together, they explored a critical question: How do we combat modern feminism from within? Some content may not be suitable for all listeners. Key Points from the Podcast: Unmasking Feminism's Anti-Catholic Roots: Timmerie and Dr. Gress reveal that many feminist icons held anti-Catholic views, with some even dabbling in Satanism, Wicca, and witchcraft. Scary! Feminism's stance often clashes with the Church's teachings on abortion, marriage, and gender. It's concerning to really consider the impact feminism has had on society, and it affects women in many subtle ways. Feminism's Cultural Impact: The influence of feminism permeates our culture, affecting everything from media and education to norms within marriages. It's everywhere and it's so hard to get away from! This can really mess up relationships with your spouse and children, promoting a "no-contact" culture devoid of responsibility and connection. The Anti-Mary Exposed: Dr. Gress' previous works, including The Anti-Mary Exposed, show how the virtues of Our Lady are so different from modern feminist ideals. Our Lady is all about humility, wisdom, and grace—qualities often rejected by contemporary culture. Feminism and Family Dynamics: It's sad how feminism encourages women to treat their husbands like children, making it all about control and dominance. This undermines the natural, respectful partnership intended in marriage. Looking to Our Lady: Our Lady is the ultimate model for women, embodying virtues that challenge the feminist narrative. She's the one that women should aspire to be. Finding Role Models: Finding modern role models who live out these virtues is key. These women, whether in daily life or historical figures like St. Edith Stein, can guide our society toward a more fulfilling, faith-aligned existence. Action Steps: Reflect on Our Lady's Virtues: Compare your life and choices to the virtues of Our Lady. Are there areas influenced by feminist ideals that need to change? Seek Wisdom and Grace: Embrace practices like silent prayer to open yourself to God's graces, allowing His wisdom to guide your actions and relationships. Read and Learn: Explore Dr. Gress' works such as The End of Woman and Theology of Home series to deepen your understanding and find practical ways to integrate these insights into your daily life. Final Thought: True fulfillment for women lies not in the aggressive, control-driven feminism promoted by modern culture, but in embracing the virtues and wisdom exemplified by Our Lady. Rediscover and champion your God-given identity!

10 Ways To Change Bad Habits & Achieve Success | The Todd Coconato Show Website: www.PastorTodd.org To give: www.ToddCoconato.com/give 10 Ways to Change Bad Behavior and Achieve Success: A Christian Perspective Success in life is not merely about achieving worldly goals but aligning our lives with God's purpose. True success encompasses spiritual growth, character development, and fulfilling our God-given potential. Here are ten deep, transformative steps to change bad behavior and achieve true success from a Christian perspective. 1. Seek God's Will The foundation of true success is aligning our desires with God's will. Proverbs 3:5-6 reminds us to “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.” Seeking God's will through prayer and Scripture helps us discern the right path and align our goals with His purpose. Example: Dedicate time each day to prayer and reading the Bible, asking God to reveal His plans for your life. 2. Embrace Humility and Servanthood Jesus exemplified servant leadership. Philippians 2:3-4 urges us, “Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others.” True success involves serving others and putting their needs before our own. Example: Look for opportunities to serve in your community or church, focusing on helping others rather than seeking personal gain. 3. Cultivate Discipline and Self-Control Proverbs 25:28 states, “Like a city whose walls are broken through is a person who lacks self-control.” Discipline and self-control are crucial for overcoming bad habits and achieving success. This involves setting boundaries and staying committed to your goals despite challenges. Example: Create a schedule that prioritizes your goals and stick to it, avoiding distractions that lead to procrastination. 4. Pursue Integrity Success built on dishonesty is fleeting. Proverbs 10:9 says, “Whoever walks in integrity walks securely, but whoever takes crooked paths will be found out.” Living a life of integrity means being honest and trustworthy in all your dealings, which builds a solid foundation for lasting success. Example: Make a commitment to honesty in all areas of your life, even when it's difficult or inconvenient. 5. Develop a Strong Work Ethic Colossians 3:23-24 advises, “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters.” A strong work ethic, grounded in the desire to glorify God, leads to excellence and success in all endeavors. Example: Approach every task, whether big or small, with diligence and a spirit of excellence, as if you are doing it for the Lord. 6. Practice Gratitude Gratitude transforms our perspective and aligns us with God's blessings. 1 Thessalonians 5:18 encourages us to “give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus.” Gratitude fosters a positive mindset, helping us to appreciate progress and stay motivated. Example: Keep a gratitude journal, noting daily the things you are thankful for, and regularly thank God for His blessings. 7. Seek Wisdom and Counsel Proverbs 15:22 teaches, “Plans fail for lack of counsel, but with many advisers they succeed.” Seeking wisdom from God and godly counsel from others can provide valuable insights and guidance, helping you avoid pitfalls and make informed decisions. Example: Surround yourself with wise mentors and advisors who can provide biblical guidance and support. 8. Persevere Through Challenges James 1:2-4 tells us, “Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance.” Success often involves overcoming obstacles. Perseverance builds character and leads to maturity and completeness in Christ. Example: When faced with challenges, view them as opportunities for growth and trust that God is using them to strengthen your faith. 9. Invest in Relationships Success is deeply connected to the quality of our relationships. John 13:34-35 commands us, “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” Building strong, loving relationships reflects Christ's love and creates a supportive community. Example: Invest time and effort in nurturing relationships with family, friends, and your church community, showing love and care in practical ways. 10. Rely on the Holy Spirit The Holy Spirit empowers us to live godly lives and achieve true success. Galatians 5:22-23 describes the fruit of the Spirit, which includes qualities essential for success such as love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. Relying on the Holy Spirit transforms our character and guides our actions. Example: Regularly pray for the Holy Spirit to fill you and produce His fruit in your life, helping you to live in a way that honors God and leads to success.

In a world teeming with ethical dilemmas and spiritual ambiguities, the ability to discern right from wrong stands as a beacon of spiritual maturity. Hebrews 5:14 emphasizes that discernment is not an inherent trait but a skill developed through deliberate and repeated engagement with God's Word. This verse challenges believers to not only consume spiritual milk but to feast on solid food—the deeper, more complex teachings of Scripture that require a mature understanding. As we develop discernment, we take greater responsibility for our actions and decisions, ensuring they align with God's will and reflect our deepening relationship with Him.Our springboard for today's discussion is: Hebrews 5:14 - "But solid food is for the mature, who by constant use have trained themselves to distinguish good from evil."The call to spiritual maturity outlined in Hebrews 5:14 is a call to active participation in our spiritual development. Discernment, as described here, is not passively acquired; it is the result of consistent and intentional practice in applying biblical truth to life's decisions. This process involves a transformation of our moral and spiritual faculties, enabling us to navigate life's complexities with divine wisdom. As believers, our ability to discern good from evil is crucial for living lives that are pleasing to God and for leading others in righteousness.Focus Points for Cultivating Discernment in Life:* Engage Deeply with Scripture: Regular, profound study of the Bible is foundational. Move beyond surface reading to delve into the complexities and depths of Scripture, allowing it to challenge and refine your understanding.* Practice Reflective Meditation: After reading Scripture, spend time meditating on what you have read. Ask the Holy Spirit to reveal deeper insights and to show how these truths apply to your daily life.* Seek Wisdom in Community: Engage with other believers in discussions and Bible studies. The perspectives and insights of others can sharpen your understanding and enhance your ability to discern.* Apply Biblical Principles Regularly: Use every opportunity to apply Scripture to real-world situations. This practical application is essential for transforming knowledge into wisdom.* Pray for Insight: Consistently ask God to increase your wisdom and discernment. Pray that He would open your eyes to see from His perspective and give you the courage to act on what you discern. Conclusion: Discernment is a hallmark of spiritual maturity that must be earnestly pursued and deliberately cultivated. Hebrews 5:14 reminds us that those who are mature have trained themselves to distinguish good from evil through constant use of God's Word. By committing to this training, we ensure that our decisions and actions are informed by divine wisdom and that our lives reflect the transformative power of God's truth.Call to Action: Identify one area of your life this week where you need greater discernment. Commit to studying what Scripture says about this area, seek counsel from mature Christians, and pray specifically for divine insight. Act on what you learn as you train yourself to live out God's wisdom.Question of the Day: What situation in your life currently demands greater discernment, and how will you apply the principles of Hebrews 5:14 to navigate it?Let's Pray: Lord God, we thank You for the gift of Your Word, which trains and equips us for every good work. Help us to pursue spiritual maturity through deep engagement with Scripture, reflective meditation, and faithful application. Grant us discernment to distinguish good from evil and the courage to live out Your truth. Strengthen us as we strive to grow in wisdom and maturity, reflecting Your light in every area of our lives. In Jesus' Name, Amen.As you go forward this week, remember that discernment is not just about making decisions—it's about embodying the wisdom of God in every aspect of your life. Let the principles of Hebrews 5:14 guide your journey toward spiritual maturity, enabling you to live responsibly and righteously in a complex world. My Reasons To Believe is a reader-supported publication.
