Why Beach tags? Beach tags are required in most municipalities along the New Jersey coastline. They are a user fee to help offset the local municipalities cost of maintaining their beaches and providing lifeguards and other services such as trash removal, beach cleaning and the purchase of needed equipment and police protection. The cost of these items and all of the other beach benefits are supported by this user fee known as the beach tag. The beach fee program was approved by the residents of Ocean City in 1976 and continued since that time to help offset all of the costs associated with the beach. Sat, Apr 9, 1–3 pm Playland's Castaway Cove - 1020 Boardwalk, Ocean City, NJ Traditionally, the OCNJ Easter egg hunt has been held on the beach, with oodles of multi-colored plastic eggs filled with candies, toys and other goodies. Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, due to gathering restrictions, the city canceled the hunt for the last two years. Because, you know.... "Science". That was when the Boardwalk Merchants Association members thought of a new way for children and their families to enjoy the day, explained Wes Kazmarck, president of the BMA. “The stores will have the eggs and kids can just come into the stores and pick them up,” he said. “It is kind of like hunting for eggs and they get to go to different stores for them. We felt this was the best way to do it this year.” Visit https://TheBeaconTimes.com for community podcasts. The Ocean City, NJ, Music Pier dates back to 1928 when construction began to create a new concert hall for the community that had just lost a large portion of the boardwalk to a fire in 1927. The Music Pier that you see today was dedicated on July 4, 1929, with much fanfare. The Music Pier lived up to its name with the Municipal Orchestra entertaining crowds twice a day, seven days a week. It was an Ocean City destination then as it is today. The Music Pier is an entertainment venue suitable for a great variety of shows from stand-up comedy to musicals, and from soloists to the Ocean City Pops orchestra. Nationally renowned musicians and music groups make appearances at the Music Pier and various pageants call the Music Pier their home. The Ocean City Pops has a summer concert series from July through October that showcases the beautiful music of the orchestra as well as special guest appearances from critically acclaimed entertainers. The Music Pier has had major lighting and audio renovations to complement the redesigned and enlarged stage in addition to remodeled staff and client/artist areas. The installation of air-conditioning in the auditorium culminated the interior improvements in the spring of 1993.
