The Cincinnati Bengals' 2025 season has been a stark departure from expectations, and pressure is building not just on head coach Zac Taylor, but also on director of player personnel Duke Tobin and defensive coordinator Al Golden. At the heart of the frustration is a team that was once seen as perennial contenders — led by Joe Burrow and Ja'Marr Chase — now heading toward missing the playoffs for a third straight season. Recent analysis from NFL hot seat rankings even lists Taylor among the top coaches whose jobs could be in jeopardy. For Taylor, criticism centers on game management, inconsistency, and offensive decline without Burrow healthy. With the Bengals at a losing record and recent blowout losses — such as the shutout at the hands of the Ravens — national media and fans alike are openly debating whether Taylor can right the ship. Some reports place him at risk of being fired, pointing to coaching decisions and the team's overall malaise. Behind the scenes, Duke Tobin's roster construction is increasingly questioned. As the de facto general manager, Tobin has seen the Bengals struggle to build a defense capable of complementing their offensive talent. Fans and analysts argue that draft and free-agency misses, especially on defense, have hamstrung coach and coordinator alike, contributing to the organization's slide. Meanwhile, Al Golden, brought in to fix defensive woes, hasn't turned around a unit that has been historically bad in key statistical categories this season, leading to louder calls for change. Some outlets even speculated midseason about the possibility of firing Golden, illustrating how his performance is being judged. Collectively, ownership faces mounting pressure from fans and pundits to overhaul leadership at multiple levels — a rare crossroads for a franchise that has prized continuity. The coming weeks, especially how the Bengals finish the season, could decide whether these three retain their jobs or if Cincinnati opts for a fresh start. The unprecedented third show of new releases this month ends the series not with a whimper but with triumph. These aren’t extras or third-rate fillers. The tracks aired tonight proudly stand next to those played in the first two shows. In fact, this episode is not only the longest but most varied of the trio. Part of the reason for the length, though, is the last minute decision to add a set devoted to today’s release of the reissue of my third favorite album of all time, Let It Be by The Replacements. This new box includes a disc of outtakes and other rarities, along with a live album recorded in Chicago on August 17, 1984. I also added a couple of songs by a band I saw in Minneapolis last Saturday. Playing with our friends the Daniel James Gang (led by former Indonesia Junk front man Daniel James and accompanied by Geoff Palmer on second guitar) and opener Cheap Glue (oh man, I need them to record ASAP), Smart Shoppers are a performance art/punk band from Green Bay, and Shop Among Us is quite fun. There’s also sets devoted to two tribute records this week – Play On: A […]

NOTICE: This weekly show is now part of the "Happy Hour with John Gaskins" daily podcast, which you can find at SiouxFallsLive.com, MidwestSportsPlus.com, and most podcast platforms like the one you find here! So, if you enjoy the topics Matt & John cover, you'll get those topics, plus relevant local guests, every Monday through Thursday on Happy Hour... so we highly recommend you check that out! It was brutal. It was comical. It was full of "third grade mistakes" and looked like a football team "disinterested in playing competent football. There aren't big enough words to describe South Dakota State falling behind 35-0 at home and eventually suffering a fourth consecutive loss after starting the season 7-0.Matt Zimmer tried in his game column on Saturday. With three days to process the debacle — which was followed by an inspired, dizzying 21-point SDSU comeback to lose 35-21 to Illinois State — Zim has even more words and searches for reasons for all the mistakes that had Jackrabbits made. Was it a lack of confidence? A lack of experience in facing this kind of a slump and adversity? How about coaching and play-calling?No matter what it was, it led to a chorus of "boos" from the crowd in Brookings. Was such howling warranted? Should it be in college athletics?Zim tackles all this, plus the latest Chase Mason Magical Mystery Tour that heads to Grand Forks for the regular season finale and what appears to be a "do or die" and "win and you're in" showdown with North Dakota. What is Zim's sense of Mason's availability and playability based on what Dan Jackson is saying — including here on Happy Hour — and how much difference Mason playing would make in the Jacks' chances of beating the Fighting Hawks. If Mason plays, and plays decent, and the Jacks lose, do they still deserve a playoff spot?Other saucy topics — SDSU's offer to Brody Schafer, his older brother Tate's FCS marketability after lighting things up at USF, the screwiness of the polls, Zim and John's unworn Jackrabbit and Coyote apparel, Outkast, The Replacements, New Kids on the Block, and Larry Bird's trash talking before NBA All-Star 3-point shooting contests.Oh, and how about those USD Coyotes? Yes, Zim has plenty of thoughts on the three-game winning streak, all against Top 25 teams, to finish the season and assure a playoff spot. The Yotes deserve plenty of time. The Jacks, though — with their playoff uncertainty, wild recent tailspin, and the storylines of the game they are playing Saturday while USD is off — take up most of the hour.

Send us a textThe Rock Hall came in loud, messy, and unexpectedly moving—and we brought receipts. We open with a mea culpa that doubles as a manifesto: Iron Maiden belongs in the Hall. When you put their global sales, generational influence, and still‑feverish fanbase next to multiple inductees, the picture changes fast. From there we break down the night's sharpest highs and softest misses: Salt‑N‑Pepa's clinic in craft and energy, a Warren Zevon tribute that needed Werewolves of London, and Cyndi Lauper's command of a room that didn't always return the favor. We dig into the White Stripes' legacy with clear eyes: why Feist and Olivia Rodrigo's “We're Going To Be Friends” worked and why making “Seven Nation Army” about yourself doesn't. Jack White's speech lands like a love letter to small rooms and big risks, and we push back on the lazy “Meg can't drum” take—serving the song is a skill. Outkast's segment wrestles with tech issues, but Tyler, the Creator detonates “B.O.B.” and reminds everyone what modern hip‑hop virtuosity looks like. Then Soundgarden turns the room inside out: Taylor Momsen surprises, Toni Cornell devastates on “Fell on Black Days,” and Nancy Wilson powers through more malfunction to honor Chris Cornell's towering range and the band that bridged punk and Sabbath weight. We close by asking better questions of the Hall. What is “rock and roll” in 2025 if not attitude, risk, and reinvention across hip‑hop, punk, metal, pop, and alternative? If next year's first‑timer pool is thin, it's time to right some wrongs: Mariah Carey, Iron Maiden, Joy Division/New Order, Wu‑Tang Clan, and long‑snubbed pillars like the Pixies, the Replacements, and Black Flag. Along the way, we unpack catalog sales, a smart theory behind the Oasis reunion, and why safe, templated finales shrink big nights. If you love strong opinions backed by facts and lived fandom, hit play. Then tell us who we got right, who we got wrong, and who you'd induct tomorrow. In my live workshops with owners and teams, coaching calls with clients, and even in interviews here on the show run into many go-to habits that are replacements for healthy leadership. Today we are going to be discussing a few of these mindsets and habits that can easily be a sort of counterfeit for the real deal. The real nefarious thing about each of theses habits is the confirmation bias that makes them habits in the first place. It is my hope that, if you are practicing these things , you get to step away and see clearly the pattern and replace them with the genuine article.
