And then, on an ongoing basis, the therapist will review the plan with the client. If the client is doing well with the plan, they're exercising, they're moving their bodies, then the therapist is is really saying, How do you feel?” Because that's our focus.

For people from more mature generations such as Generation X or the Baby Boomers, it has become increasingly more difficult to understand what motivates people under the age of 30. While these older people groups view the workplace with an eye toward rigidity, security, and ever changing objectives, Generation Z and Millennials are more interested in flexibility, fluidity, and clear goals. Their shopping behaviors are quite distinct too, as they are frugal, and looking for immediacy and impact, whereas people over the age of 50 are more content in making a financial splash with the long range benefits in mind. Thus, it is easy to see that there is a rather significant social disconnect between these younger and older generations. So much so, that today's young adults are seemingly more prone to float along in life, taking far more time to find their life's path. Fortunately, a solid way to bridge the gap, and create better understanding between these people groups is through a strong sense of mentorship and discipleship. What a better way to unite the old and the young than by allowing someone to teach and give help and advice to a less experienced and often a younger person. A new movie in theaters now called “The Forge”, tells the story of a young man who has no concept of how to be a man. Drifting through life with little direction, he is eventually hired by a Fitness Center. He has no idea how the owner will personally impact his life. With the prayers of his mother and the unexpected guidance from his new mentor, the young man is forced to deal with his past, sacrifice his selfishness and discover how God has a greater purpose for his life. Aspen Kennedy is a young actor who portrayed this young man in “The Forge.” He truly has a fresh perspective on what it means to be young, lacking guidance, and mistaking motivation for laziness. Kennedy joins us to talk about the many societal challenges facing Generation Z and Millennials today. Listen as he shares about the value of faith-based mentorship in someone's life and how it can chart the course for an inspired adulthood.

Their latest movie, “The Forge” coming to theaters nationwide on August 23rd is no different. The movie tells the story of a young man who has no idea on how to be a man. On this episode of the Club + Resort Talks podcast, Rob Thomas speaks with Robin Shelton, PGA Master Professional and General Manager of Newport Beach Country Club, and Bianca Gillett, the club's Director of Fitness and Recreation. The trio discuss the celebrated club's newest edition—an outdoor fitness center called “The Cove.” Gillett shares the space's unique features and amenities, how it integrates with the existing facilities at Newport Beach Country Club, and what types of fitness programs and classes will be offered. Shelton touches upon construction costs, the expected return on investment, and how “The Cove” will contribute to the club's member retention rates. Rob and Senior Editor Phil Keren opened the podcast by talking about Phil's recent visit to Glenmoor Country Club in Canton, Ohio to cover the Northern Ohio PGA HOPE Cup. PGA HOPE (Helping Our Patriots Everywhere) is a program that provides free golf lessons to veterans and active duty military service members. In the Glenmoor event, 15 teams, each consisting of four veterans and a PGA Professional, competed in a 9-hole scramble. The winning team was led by PGA Professional Kevin Sullivan and consisted of veterans Tom Brown, Rob Sutton, Jason Wallingford, and Jim Morrison. Special guests at the event were former Ohio State University Head Football Coach Jim Tressel and PGA Professional and TV host Jimmy Hanlin. Phil and Rob also discussed an enhancement project happening at Brown Deer Park Golf Course in Milwaukee, Wis. Money from the American Rescue Plan Act is being used to fund the construction of a new practice facility that will include a 23,500-sq.-ft. putting green, a 1,500-sq.-ft. practice bunker, and 5,300 sq. ft. of asphalt cart paths. The facility will be located just west of the current driving range near the clubhouse. The project will replace a small practice bunker and a concrete pad from previous years with the new putting green and practice bunker. The existing putting green between the clubhouse and the driving range will remain. Rob and Phil also highlighted an interesting discovery made by golf course workers at Omni Homestead Resort in Hot Springs, Va. The resort features two classic courses, one being the Old Course, established in 1892 and lined with mature oaks and maples. Throughout the year, workers clear dead and fallen trees, which they chop into firewood for the resort. This routine task took an unexpected turn when a thick piece of oak was split open, revealing two golf balls embedded in the wood. While both balls were encrusted with dirt and sap, one exhibited distinctive characteristics of an antique golf ball, including a square dimple pattern that was popular around a century ago. Further examination by an expert will be needed to learn more. Victoria Nenno, Senior Historian at the USGA Golf Museum and Library, suggested the diamond or mesh (square) pattern most likely dates between 1910 and 1930, indicating it is probably a rubber-core ball.
The One World Festival in Lancaster will be held Sept. 8 at the Franklin and Marshall College at the Alumni Sports and Fitness Center. Deepa Balepur, Chair of the One World Festival Committee and Tom Daniels, Performance Coordinator of the festival appeared on The Spark to promote the festival. The festival was born in 2018, as Deepa was attending the Asian Indian Festival. "I would say a native Lancastrian who came up to me and said, you know, this is such a great thing you guys are doing. It is wonderful learning about different cultures. And this is a very special day for me. And I asked her, I said, why do you say that? And she said, well, I love Indian food, so I'm starting my day here. I'm going to have lunch, and then I'm going to head over to, Business Park where the, African American Festival is happening. And after that, I'm going to go to Long's Park because that's where the Latin American festival is happening. You know, it would be really cool if you guys could all get together and do this in one location. Not only would it be super convenient, but it would also be so much fun and such a great exposure of, you know, the different cultures that exist in our wonderful community. So that thought kind of just stuck with me. So the next morning, I reached out to the organizers of the other two festivals and told them the story and said, if you're interested, let's talk. And, they were very interested in continuing the conversation. So I would say that's really where the seed of the One World Festival got planted, "said Balepur. The event is free and open to the public. The festival showcases a variety of food, cultural heritage, music, dancing, and performances embracing different cultures. "So, you know, it's, you you walk into the room and they will you will be welcomed by a lot of color and music and, nonstop performances. The aroma of the food, which is, you know, representative of food from different parts of the world, merchants and artisans showcasing products that they're looking to sell or handicrafts, different arts and crafts. It's really a very, vibrant and inviting and welcoming environment, "said Balepur. Support WITF: https://www.witf.org/support/give-now/See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

About one million Americans are currently living with Parkinson's disease. It is the second-most common neurodegenerative disease after Alzheimer's disease. Nearly 90,000 people in the U.S. are diagnosed each year and in 2023, I joined the ranks with my own PD diagnosis. With April being Parkinson's Awareness Month, I thought it right to present an informative and inspiring podcast about Parkinson's impact, the research and progress in the search for better treatments, and the attention to lifestyle changes ( nutrition, sleep and most importantly exercise) that can mitigate symptoms and lead to a more full and active life. My guests include Cathi Thomas, RN, Assistant Clinical Professor of Neurology and Director of the Parkinson's Disease and Movement Disorder Center at the Boston University Medical Campus and Brett Miller, founder of 110 Fitness Center in Rockland, Massachusetts. 110 Fitness is the first of its kind inclusive wellness center for individuals afflicted with Parkinson's and other developmental or physical disability. Brett leads us in Rock Steady Boxing, a proven athletic therapy for PD, but there is a lot more to learn about what he and his team are doing to help the community. As always I wish you the very best and remember to be well, so you can do good! - JR. www.bumc.bu.ed/parkinsonsdisease/center, www.110fitness.org, www.parkinson.org, www.michaeljfox.org, www.davisphinneyfoundation.org

We meet artist Alexandria Tarver to discuss her current solo exhibition at Deli Gallery, New York. Tarver recontextualizes the traditional floral motif into a space between memory, idealization, and presence. Her process begins on a ritualistic evening walk around New York City. For Tarver, the night is a dynamic time oscillating between rest, dreams, and frenzy, often unleashing subconscious desires restrained during the day. It's a period when trouble happens, stars become visible, and the city, never at rest, mirrors the cycle akin to death. The variability of the city's nighttime sky, influenced by observation points, weather, and proximity to building lights, becomes a rich palette of colors, each night unique. On these walks the artist identifies potential subjects, often floral clusters, in an action akin to foraging. Tarver photographs the subject and then creates a preliminary composition in pencil on paper. The subject is finally rendered in oil on panel, employing techniques from various historical movements including post-impressionism, New England mid-century representationalism, and gestural abstraction. The primary layer, accompanied by lapis and cerulean blue ground, captures the electric color of twilight. The timeline varies, with some paintings taking weeks or even months. The vibrant blue of twilight oscillates against the flesh-tones of the central flower form—this blue sometimes deepening, sometimes shifting into an evening haze, sometimes sinking into purple-black depth, a depth halted by the ever-present electric glow of the skyline.Tarver finds profound meaning in the repetition and variations on a theme. As she explores the possibilities of painting, she grapples with the act of painting and its evolution over time and practice. The disciplined dedication to a subject or landscape, evident in artists like Maureen Gallace, Vija Celmins, and Jim Dine, is mirrored in Tarver's formal repetition, which becomes a grounding force that reflects the rhythm of day-to-day existence. In the paintings, flowers and markings are situated as acting figures within the particular, ever-variable, and intensely observed color field of the night sky as viewed from the concrete grounds of the city. Much like Ellsworth Kelly's plant drawings served as a device for him, the plant in Tarver's works acts as a stand-in, offering a guiding framework for her hand and a pathway to reflect on the long nights she has experienced. During a vulnerable period around 2013 and 2014, marked by the sickness and imminent mortality of Tarver's father, the practice of looking at flowers and creating paintings became a place of solace. This loyalty endures, providing a grounding force and a way to navigate through fear, pain, and sorrow.Alexandria Tarver (b. 1989) received a BFA from New York University in 2011. Recently her work has been included in group exhibitions at GRIMM Gallery, London (2023), Marinaro Gallery, NY (2023), Public Gallery, London (2022), UncleBrother, NY (2021), Arsenal Gallery, NY (2019), Et. Al. etc., San Francisco (2017), Danziger Gallery, NY (2016). Tarver also organized group shows Sentimental at Fitness Center for the Arts & Tactics in Brooklyn (2013) and #1 at The Hose in Brooklyn (2013). Tarver had her first solo exhibition with Deli Gallery in 2015. She lives and works in New York City.Follow @AlexandriaTarver on Instagram and @DeliGallery.Visit: https://deligallery.com/Alexandria-Tarver-New-Paintings-2024 Hosted on Acast.
