Byrd Barr Place is set to host its second annual Block Party, a community-focused event celebrating the cultural heritage of Seattle's Central District. Scheduled from noon to 5 p.m. on 18th Avenue, the event will include live music, diverse food offerings, local vendor shopping, and entertainment such as bouncy houses. Performances by DJ Topspin and headliner Royce the Choice will highlight the festivities. Morgan knew her mom would like a photo of the entire family in one photo at Disneyland, so they made it happen. San Francisco Mayor Daniel Lurie is throwing another party. The Mayor is announcing a new block party in the City's Mint Plaza every Friday starting July 4th. It joins a list of parties the City has scheduled including Downtown First Thursdays, Fridays on Front Street, and a number of night markets. Starlight Thursdays Episode 265 featuring Party Robbins recorded live at Missoula Fashion Week block party. Who better to kick off the event than this man! I had the privilege of putting together the lineup and thought If Party Robbins would do the honor of opening it up and setting the vibe we'd be stoked to have him. He brought some funky house, minimal and techno to the sound system and the party began to form with hula hoops and flow dancers mesmerized by the beats under the sunshine. This was also the debut of our project Disco Carrot as a stage. We recently decked out a snowcat with speakers and a DJ booth to bring to events and fashion week turned out to be a perfect maiden voyage. On May 2, 2000, the U.S. government lifted restrictions that made GPS technology more accurate and accessible to the general public. This day became known as Blue Switch Day, and this decision inadvertently created a new outdoor hobby. Geocaching is an activity where participants use GPS and coordinates to hunt down hidden containers, known as geocaches or caches, often located in parks, forests and cities around the world. The first cache was hidden just outside of Estacada, Oregon, only one day after Blue Switch Day. Twenty-five years later, there are now more than 3.3 million caches hidden around the world. PJ Hubbard is the treasurer for GEOregon, a nonprofit dedicated to creating a community for geocachers in Oregon. The group is holding a Block Party event in September at Champoeg State Park to celebrate this anniversary. Hubbard joins us to share more about the past, present and future of geocaching.
