QDJM Archives - House at APT - Recorded February 22 2008, in New York City, New YorkAPT lived from around 1999-2009 and along with Cielo, APT was part of the nightlife awakening that happened in the formerly smelliest neighborhood of Manhattan, the meatpacking district. The entire venue held about 150 people and was alive 7 nights a week. APT died a death by 1000 complaint calls by rival establishments or developers, it was a darling then a detrimental anomaly, hard to explain why. Every great DJ in New York City played at APT during its shine. I had a chance to play there on Mondays and sometimes on Saturdays, usually upstairs, this is a recording from a night when I played downstairs in the minimal but club-like space with the Funktion One sound system. Although, I'd been DJing since '89 and had always collected House music, the genre was always a part of my set and not my whole set - in the mid-00s, I started developing a House set and this night was a step in the right direction.https://ra.co/events/51655 --- The QDJM Archives are my re-sharing of mixes and sets that were once here on podomatic, but I ran out of space and took them down in lieu of newer works. Some of these will be by requests, some will be first time posts. Look out for the B&W photo of me keeping my head to the sky and you'll know there's another retro reminisce session for your enjoyment. QDJM Archives - Oceanus Event Mix (eclectic & worldwide beats) “Recorded in May 2001 or 2002, in New York City, New York.” Getting recognized as an eclectic and versatile DJ, compared to a hits or mainstream DJ took work. At this point in my career, I'd made a name for myself as a person that could read and move the crowd with mostly recognizable classics or newer hit music...I cultivated interest in my compiling and mixing skills applied to 'underground' or other music. This was major for opportunity and for the recognition of my competency with blending unusual tunes to create different feels and aesthetics for crowds that may have heard it all before. I like the chance to play all of the music I love. --- The QDJM Archives are my re-sharing of mixes and sets that were once here on podomatic, but I ran out of space and took them down in lieu of newer works. Today, we're diving into the vibrant summer scene in Detroit. Devon and Jer kick things off by discussing the new restaurant and bar scene, including the exciting opening of Easy Peasy, a new concept located in the old Cornerstone space downtown. They're now offering a lunch sushi program from Detroit Sushi, making it a must-visit spot. We also highlight the Monarch Club's fantastic cocktails and the importance of using reservation apps to snag last-minute tables at popular spots. Jer shares his recent experience at Coriander, a restaurant on the far east side of the city by the canals, which has upped its game with an excellent Marrow burger and a busy, vibrant atmosphere. For those with kids, Devon offers some tips on finding family-friendly restaurants in Detroit, emphasizing the need for space and a lively atmosphere. He mentions Supergeil as a great example of a kid-friendly spot with outdoor space. There's a new coffee shop opening at Post in Detroit on Kercheval near Grosse Pointe Park, adding to the growing list of cool daytime spots in the area. We also discuss the transformation of a Starbucks into a Lucky Coffee in the village of Grosse Pointe, expanding the brand's footprint. Summer events are in full swing, and we talk about the Brisa Bar in Campus Martius, which offers a casual vibe with small bites and tropical drinks. Capitol Park's new art installation and the upcoming Grand Circus Gala and Bourbon Garden are also on our radar, promising fun and unique experiences in the city. And in other news, Michigan has surpassed California to become the largest cannabis market in the United States by sales volume. We discuss the implications of this milestone and what it means for the state's economy and tax revenue. As always, we appreciate your feedback and support. Hello :) Well, that was an unexpectedly long break. To be honest I wasn't planning it but I did kind of need it. But just in case you needed confirmation: Everything Has Been All Right. So far at least. Anyway, this episode is a short one, just in part to let you know I'm still alive, partly to give you an indication of what to look forward to in the new series of episodes, for a given definition of series, and mainly to give you a housekeeping life update. There's also a call-to-action for future episodes. Normal service will be resumed next time. For a given definition of normal. A PDF transcript of this podcast is available. As always, if you have anything to say about the topic, or indeed about my podcasting in general, leave a comment or let me know. I have a newsletter with extra content, and where I'll be mentioning future podcast episodes if you want to make your own contribution. I also have a Patreon - if you like what you hear, and want to access exclusive content (or just to show your appreciation), then head on over. Until next time, bye for now. :)

This week, in Silver City, New Mexico, a young woman is found, brutally killed, floating in her own bathtub. The suspects include her police officer/soon to be ex-husband, her too good to be true new boyfriend, and the weirdo who lives with her landlord. It's a true mystery, especially since the police quickly bungle just about every aspect of the case, including what would seem the most obvious things. This leads to demotions, firings, and a very weak murder case, that may not hold up in court!Along the way, we find out that hummingbirds don't need their own festival, that cops can't just "get away with anything", and that DNA should be more convincing!!Hosted by James Pietragallo and Jimmie WhismanNew episodes every Thursday!Donate at: patreon.com/crimeinsports or go to paypal.com and use our email: crimeinsports@gmail.comGo to shutupandgivememurder.com for all things Small Town Murder & Crime In Sports!Follow us on...twitter.com/@murdersmallfacebook.com/smalltownpodinstagram.com/smalltownmurderAlso, check out James & Jimmie's other show, Crime In Sports!
