All the while, my little eyes watched and learned from both his positive words, and his mistakes. This Saturday 3/19 - marks 7 years since his passing. Before Covid I would travel to a new city in his honor every year. The last few years I have made due celebrating him at home. Go go go, that seems like the mantra of the holiday season. It's exhausting. But now that we are at the end of it, that mantra changes into goal setting and vision boards for 2022. If you're going straight from one to the next, you are skipping a very important step in the end of the year process... you have to release.Release the things that aren't working, and the parts of you that are holding you back from reaching those next year goals. This conversation helps you see what doesn't deserve to come with you into the next world, and a few tips on how to do that. Thank you so much for joining me this year. I appreciate all the lessons that I learned, and am grateful to have this platform. Next year holds big things for this podcast, and myself, but first... time to release the things that no longer belong.Happy New Year!
This conversation completely opened my eyes to a different type of approach to breaking through a limited mindset and achieving your goals. I really enjoyed this conversation with Shelly Ehler, and I think you will too. We talked about how she went from living her life on a path that was laid out for her, to really finding her own passion, and how that passion allows her to help other people every day.If you've every had questions about hypnotherapy, this episode will answer a lot of your questions, and help you break through the stereotype to understand how it can help you too.If you would like to get in touch with Shelly, you can reach her through their website https://www.mocwc.comIf you connect with this episode, please do me a favor and share it with someone you think would love it as well. This episode is a short and to the point conversation about the difference between how our life looks and how it feels. So often we focus on making sure people "think" about us in a certain way. They see the perfectly curated Instagram feed and assume that's how we feel, but I don't know a single person who lives their life that way. It's time we start having an honest conversation about it.This is a message to anyone who feels like they aren't seen, and if you feel like you have nobody to talk to or reach out to, I will be that person for you. You can send me a DM on Instagram at @owningyourauthenticity or email me at owningyourauthenticity@gmail.com. I will gladly be here for you!If you connected with this episode, or know someone who would, please share it!
This conversation was a thing of beauty. Today I introduce you to a dear friend of mine, Francesca De Caro. She is a curious mind, a free spirit, mom to a toddler, and owner of Sage and Knot. This topic came up when I was explaining to my daughter why a person was no longer in our lives. I explained to her that I no longer felt safe around that person, and she assumed that I meant physically safe. I explained to her that there are different kinds of safety, and then thought to myself, could I have spared myself years of heartache and pain had I known that as a child? So this is that conversation. You deserve to feel mentally and emotionally safe around the people you choose to be in your life. In this episode I give you some tips on how to do that, and a little bit of validation too...If this episode resonates with you, please send it to a friend who deserves to hear it. As the holidays quickly approach, it's often we find ourselves bending our boundaries so we don't "rock the boat" at that holiday party, or family gathering. You deserve better than that! In this episode I uncover the common ways that our boundaries are pushed, ignored, or broken during the holidays. In this week's episode, I am so happy to have a conversation with Betty Strobele. Betty is my aunt on my mother's side who's story has for many years inspired my own strength as a female entrepreneur. Betty is a veteran, and well accomplished employee at a large corporate company, a fitness coach, and so much more.We chat about what it means to be an entrepreneur, her recovery from a house fire, the work it takes to embrace a mentality of growth, weight loss and health, and so much more!If you would like to connect with Betty you can find her on Instagram at @bettyjewellstrobele or visit her website at www.bettyjewellstrobele.com
Self sabotage is a nasty beast that shows up when you feel like things are going well. We've all said it before, "it's too good to be true." In this episode I talk about recognizing self sabotage for what it is, how to address the root cause, and what we can do to move forward without it. Give it a listen and let me know what you think!
In this week's episode, I was blessed enough to interview Katy Strang. Katy is the founder of a local Facebook group, Moms of Camarillo, or MOC as we call it. We originally connected to talk about what it means to manage a Facebook group with 7,000+ women in it, but the more we connected the more we branched out in our conversation. This interview is the epitome of authenticity. From a first time meeting to in depth conversations around personal identity, family struggles, and life in this strange new reality that is 2021, our conversation will not disappoint. While our conversation lasted about 4 hours, I've pieced together just over an hour of content that I knew my listeners would benefit from. So give it a listen, share it with someone who needs to hear it, and if you love what you hear, please screenshot and share it on social tagging @owningyourauthenticity and @momsofcamarillo.
So many of us were raised to never quit, and to always tough it out... I'm here to tell you that's not always the best form of action. In this episode I discuss the difference between perseverance and ignoring your intuition. So often, our need to never be seen as a quitter, leads us to stay in negative situations, that ultimately cause more harm than good. In this episode I discuss what these situations can look like, and give you 5 times quitting is more important than perseverance.Give it a listen, and if you resonate please screen shot and share it on social tagging me at @owningyourauthenticity or visit my website to get in touch at owningyourauthenticity.com
After recently watching a movie about the true story of a rodeo rider who became wheelchair bound due to a car accident, I was reflecting on one line from the movie... "This wheelchair will either be your wings or your anchor... you decide."I couldn't help but think about that concept, and how it applies to so many situations in life. So in today's episode, we talk about approaching life's difficulties with that concept in mind! With this concept in mind, we address different situations that come up in every day life.
I have already talked to you about the importance of setting healthy boundaries, and how to do so. But what we haven't talked about, is how it feels after you do that. This episode dives into the aftermath of setting healthy boundaries. And while it may not be easy to hear, it is definitely important. We talk about being honest with ourselves when it comes to respecting our own boundaries, and how to evaluate the ripples that come from setting boundaries. Do you need to create a re-entry plan, or do you need to consider setting a barricade.I know it's tough to do the work, but man it is so worth it!
It is so easy to wake up one day and feel completely lost. To feel like, how did I get here? It has happened to me, numerous times. So I wanted to share a few ways you can really invest in yourself so that you avoid that lost feeling. In this episode I mention two books, they are here:"Think Like a Monk" by Jay Shetty"Becoming" by Michelle ObamaIf you would like to download your own Personal Self Care Plan, you can do so by visiting this link: https://mailchi.mp/05f667aab55c/personal-self-care-plan
We have gotten so good at talking ourselves out of taking big steps, because it's easier to be safe and stagnant, than adventurous and growing. The truth is, when it comes to any big decision, you can never be 100% ready, because that doesn't exist. There is always a chance factor in life that we can't control. In this episode, I give you some tactical advice to engage in creating your next best version of yourself. Ways to address the fear and doubt, and shift into a growth mindset.I hope you found value in the episode, whether it's for yourself or someone else. Please share with anyone who needs to hear these words, because I wish I had heard them years ago, while I was keeping myself small and letting fear dictate my decisions.Be sure to visit my website at owningyourauthenticity.com and connect with me on Instagram at @owningyourauthenticity
This week's episode came on the heels of my own struggle. That feeling when you are constantly working towards a goal, and you start to lose your steam, lose your momentum. This podcast is about that moment, that feeling, and how to get yourself past it!In this episode I mentioned a video of a talk that Simon Sinek did about your why. Just to be clear... I love this video and have watched it countless times when I needed a reminder. I hope you like it too!https://www.ted.com/talks/simon_sinek_how_great_leaders_inspire_action?utm_campaign=tedspread&utm_medium=referral&utm_source=tedcomshareIf you have any tips or systems you use to motivate yourself during hard times I would love to hear them! I usually sit down with my kids at the beginning of the summer and create a summer bucket list. Obviously I take into account our work schedules and finances, but for the most part we enjoy getting creative and writing it all down. That way when family day comes around each week, we can just go look at our list and pick something fun to do!This year I decided to be a little more intentional about the format of our list. I didn't realize before what a powerful tool this list was in teaching my kids about our intentions, and ways to have an impact. If you're curious, just give this short episode a quick listen.I've also created a FREE PDF for you to create your own bucket lists, all year round. Click the link below to get your seasonal bucket list right to your inbox. https://mailchi.mp/a3e5cd66b690/seasonal-bucket-listAs always, if you enjoyed this episode, I'd really appreciate it if you screenshot it and share it on social, tagging me on Facebook & Instagram at @owningyourauthenticity
In this episode I talk about a few of the ways that women are taught to shrink themselves in order to be liked or accepted, and it really needs to stop. We are deserving of standing tall, walking with our head held high, and celebrating ourselves in the most beautiful ways. You may not even realize you are doing it, which is why I've laid out a few of the ways that we can change this behavior to live a more authentic life.If you resonate with any of this, please do me a favor and share it with a friend who deserves to hear this message, or screenshot it and share it on social tagging me at @owningyourauthenticityTo get in touch with me you can visit www.owningyourauthenticity.com or find me on Instagram at @owningyourauthenticity
This week we dive into the hard topic of how to actually set healthy boundaries with people in your life. I developed the O.P.E.N. method to help you understand the process of developing, implementing, and sticking to healthy boundaries that will help you live a more authentic life. In this episode I mentioned a book called Making Space by Jayne Hardy. I have linked to it below on Amazon's website, but I always encourage you to shop local if at all possible! https://amzn.to/2SwP422 (this is an affiliate link)If you like what this episode has to say, please do us a favor and subscribe to the podcast, and share on social and tag us @owningyourauthenticity or visit our website at https://www.owningyourauthenticity.com
This week we deep dive into boundaries, when to set them and with who! I absolutely love this topic because it is truly the first step I took towards living my authentic life!As mentioned in this episode, I love the book "Making Space: How to Live Happier by Setting Boundaries That Work for You" by Jayne Hardy. I have linked it here to buy from Barnes and Noble, but I do always encourage you to support a locally owned book store!https://amzn.to/2SwP422 (this is an affiliate link)Make sure you subscribe for notifications when I release a new episode! Next week, Part 2, will give you a step-by-step guide to set boundaries!
This week I decided to share with you just a few of the books that have truly shifted my life. When I say they shifted my life, I mean I connected with the words in them so much so, that I actually made conscious changes in the way I work, parent, speak, feel, and behave. These books have truly impacted me in my journey of authenticity.Below are the books I talk about in this episode. I encourage you to go to your locally owned book store if you want to get a copy for yourself, but since I can't link to every privately owned bookstore, I will provide links to Barnes & Noble! The first book I talk about is Untamed by Glennon Doyle. I have literally quoted this book to my children. Glennon's ability to speak to the woman I used to be while also speaking to the woman I am, and strive to be, is nothing short of miraculous. She shares deeply personal stories that have given me a better understanding of some of the things I have endured, and somehow also given me permission to be better. To fight harder for my right, and my kids' right to be authentic... whatever they decide that means. This book is a must have for anyone who wants to understand their feeling, feel seen, or just needs to connect with something. https://www.barnesandnoble.com/w/untamed-glennon-doyle/1134074545?ean=9780593400470 The next book is White Fragility by Robin Diangelo. This book literally shifted my understanding of racism, and opened my eyes to the role I have played as a white woman in our racist society. This book provided me with the understanding that I need to make many, many changes in my life in order to actively choose to live an anti-racist life, and ways to fight against racism in tangible ways. I encourage anyone who is white, or anyone at all, to read this book. https://www.barnesandnoble.com/w/white-fragility-robin-diangelo/1127171010?ean=9780807047415During this conversation, I also talked about a great book I read with my kids to teach them to recognize and stand up against racism when they see it. This book is called How To Be An Antiracist Family by Martin Sekkat. https://www.barnesandnoble.com/w/how-to-be-an-antiracist-family-martin-sekkat/1137598185?ean=9781513670850The next book I talk about is for all my entrepreneurs out there. The One Thing by Gary Keller with Jay Papasan is just so amazing. This book helped me recover from being a multi-tasker and opened my eyes to what it means to be focused, and organized. I have also quoted this book to my children during parenting conversations. https://www.barnesandnoble.com/w/the-one-thing-gary-keller/1113867787?ean=9781885167774Lastly, I talked about the book Get Out Of Your Own Way by Dave Hollis. Anybody who knows me knows I follow Dave Hollis consistently and have really learned so much from him. But, before he entered the personal growth world, I had never heard from him. This book is written as a self help book from the skeptics point of view. Despite the fact that I am not a skeptic, I appreciated his honesty in sharing his struggles, and what really helped him to create powerful, necessary change.https://www.barnesandnoble.com/w/get-out-of-your-own-way-dave-hollis/1132184361?ean=9781404113183I would love to see what you are reading, and always appreciate a good book recommendation! If you'd like, share your favorite books in any genre on Instagram using #OYABookShift so I can see them all!
On this episode of Owning Your Authenticity, we dive into what it means to truly take care of your ENTIRE self. From understanding the different parts of yourself, to methods you can use to engage in each different type of self care. This idea was first brought to my attention by listening to the RISE Together podcast with Dave Hollis, and I connected with it so much I decided to expand it into an entire podcast episode!During this episode I mentioned a "floating table" of sorts, and have found one as an example that I have linked here below. I do not personally own one of these tables, but am fascinated by the design and craftsmanship. (This is not an ad.) SEE IT HERE!I also mention ways to engage in Mental Self Care during this episode like services such as BetterHelp.com so I have linked that here for you as well. (This is also not an ad.) https://www.betterhelp.comTo download a FREE copy of my guide to Creating your own Personal Self-Care Plan, click the link here: https://mailchi.mp/05f667aab55c/personal-self-care-planIf you enjoyed this episode, please be sure to screenshot it and share it on social (Facebook & Instagram) with your friends and tag us at @owningyourauthenticity.You an also visit my website at https://www.owningyourauthenticity.com to submit questions and comments, or if you would like to inquire about being a guest on the podcast.
On this week's episode of Owning Your Authenticity, I break down what it means to set your intentions for an action or day. I talk about the differences an intention can have on your experiences, and shift your mindset to embracing your journeys and not just your achievements. I provide you with a basic formula to set your own intentions, and challenge you to do so!
This week on Owning Your Authenticity we dive in to the idea of Risk vs. Reward when it comes to those tough decision making moments. We bring to light the differences between a Risk Mindset and a Reward Mindset, which ultimately gives us a powerful tool for personal growth. I also challenge all of our listeners to a personal understanding exercise to help you get to know yourself a little bit more, and move towards living your most authentic life!
In this episode of the Owning Your Authenticity podcast, we talk about what to do when our leaders fail us. What happens when your mentor/inspiration/coach, messes up in a big public way. I have created an acronym with 4 steps you can take to understand how you're feeling, address the situation, and positively move forward towards you authentic self.In this episode I referenced the amazing book "The One Thing" by Gary Keller and Jay Papasan. You can find that book here: https://www.amazon.com/ONE-Thing-Surprisingly-Extraordinary-Results/dp/1885167776/ref=sr_1_1?dchild=1&keywords=the+one+thing+book&qid=1618462594&sr=8-1If you would like to get in touch with me, you can find me on Facebook and Instagram at @owningyourauthenticity or you can visit my website at https://www.owningyourauthenticity.com where you can also contact me and submit questions or comments for future episodes!
We've all been there, where someone comes in with the best of intentions wanting to "help" you, and they way they help doesn't actually provide you any support or relief in your current situation. This is a common mistake when people try to help they way THEY would want to be helped, instead of the way you NEED to be helped. This episode breaks down how this common mistake so easily happens, and what we can do to avoid it so that we can most authentically show up and serve the people in our lives.
Often times when we are doing the work to dive into our most authentic selves, it can be filled with fear. In this episode we go into what that fear really is, and how we can address it and move past it. The fear itself is a selfish emotion, and it's main goal is to keep you in your comfort zone, preventing you from striving for more and achieving that next level you.If you are thinking about making a change in your life, and you're afraid to do it for any number of reasons, listen to this episode. I made it just for you!
This is our pilot episode of Owning Your Authenticity with Dianna Terry. In this episode we dive into what it means to own your authenticity. We break down those words to really understand the truth of authenticity, and how to take ownership for yourself. Dianna also lays out her two biggest fears with putting this podcast out into the world, and one big goals that she has set for herself with this podcast. Dianna couldn't remember which quote about failure it was, but here it is! “I have not failed. I've just found 10,000 ways that won't work.” - Thomas EdisonIf you loved this episode, please screen shot, share on social, and tag us using @owningyourauthenticityYou can also visit our website at www.owningyourauthenticity.com where you can learn a little bit more about Dianna and you can also submit comments or questions that we may use for future episodes!
