Ever felt like you're low-level drowning, even though everything looks “fine” on paper? That's burnout—and it doesn't show up with fireworks. It creeps in quietly until suddenly you've hit a wall and wonder: How in the heck did I get here? In this solo episode of Don't Cut Your Own Bangs (episode 2 of the Put Down the Panic: A Kind Guide to Stress mini-series), Danielle shares what burnout really looks like, how to spot the sneaky signs early, and the surprisingly gentle ways you can climb back without guilt—or another mountain of “shoulds.” Grab your tea, light a candle, and let's walk through this together. Because you deserve calm without having to earn it. Recognize the early signs — “When the little things that normally bring you joy don't anymore, that's a red flag your body is waving.” Rest is not optional — “Burnout recovery is like a broken bone. You wouldn't skip the cast—so don't skip rest.” Anchor back to yourself — “Anchors are small daily choices—like a walk outside, drinking water before coffee, or asking for help—that root you in calm instead of chaos.” If this episode resonates, share it with a friend who might need the reminder that burnout isn't failure—it's just your body's way of saying: enough, please. What if revival isn't an event, but a new normal? In this Revive Week message, guest speaker Drew Worsham (pastor, church planter, and Christian illusionist) opens Acts 4 to show how the early church lived with a clear message, were marked by Jesus, and were motivated by the cross, and why we can't “come have revival and then go back to normal.” Drew shares a memorable Rubik's Cube illustration, powerful gospel clarity, and a call to move from performance to proximity to Jesus. If you've ever felt spiritually “scrambled,” this message will help you place your life in the hands of the One who can truly transform it. Key Scriptures: Acts 4:1–22; Ephesians 2:1–5; John 15:1–5; Romans 1:16 Big Idea: The gospel isn't about making bad people good; it's about making dead people alive in Christ. 3 Anchors from Acts 4 Message Was Clear — “There is salvation in no one else…” (Acts 4:12) Marked by Jesus — People could tell they had been with Jesus (Acts 4:13). Motivated by the Cross — “We cannot help but speak…” (Acts 4:20). As summer fades and fall begins, I'm sharing three tools to help you finish the year steady, clear, and grounded. This isn't about cramming in last-minute goals or chasing copy-paste routines. It's about stripping back to what's essential and moving with intention. Fall reminds us that letting go makes space for what's next. Do the work now, so you don't drift into chaos later.
How do you navigate through the fog of life? I would like to suggest you consider relying on Someone with a better vantage point ✨. Someone who can shine the light on your path. Hi Neighbor, Adoptive life can feel foggy, uncertain, and overwhelming. Sometimes the best way forward is to slow down, trust a higher perspective
In this week's episode of the podcast, we dive deep into the tricky tightrope walk of balancing structure and flexibility at home—because let's be honest, parenting (and homeschooling) neurodivergent kids isn't for the faint of heart! This episode is your breathe-and-hit-reset permission slip. Here's a peek at what we covered: Structure is Comforting… Until It Isn't Structure helps our kids (and us!) feel safe. Predictable routines can seriously reduce anxiety, especially for those with executive functioning challenges, ADHD, autism, or sensory processing issues. But too much rigidity? It can spark rebellion, burnout, and meltdowns—especially with creative, passionate, gifted kids. What Does Flexibility Really Mean? Flexibility doesn't mean winging it! It means responsive teaching—letting your child's needs, interests, and even energy levels guide your day. I share my own family's rhythm, from color-coded calendars to built-in time for unexpected appointments and sibling support. Practical Strategies to Try Now Here are some actionable takeaways to help you find your family's sweet spot: Start with Your “Must Do's”: Define your “minimum viable day”—the simplest version of what needs to happen (e.g., a little reading, writing, and math). Ease into your routine and build up slowly. Anchors, Not Timetables: Instead of strict schedules, anchor your day around meals, read-alouds, or physical routines. Visual Tools & Ownership: Use checklists, whiteboards, or color-coded calendars so your kids know what's on deck. Support Executive Function: Scaffold routines gently and model breaking big tasks into small steps. Embrace Interest-Led Learning: Let your child's passions drive parts of the curriculum for greater engagement. Built-in Downtime: Everyone—including you!—needs breaks to recharge. You're Not Alone (Even When It Feels Like It) If your Instagram doesn't look like those homeschool highlight reels, that's normal. Messy days aren't failures—they're feedback. Looking for More Support? If you want ongoing resources, coaching, or community, check out the Learner's Lab or subscribe to our email list for info on upcoming small group cohorts for middle/high schoolers and executive function workshops. You're the perfect parent for your child—just as you are. Give yourself grace, celebrate the small wins, and remember: structure and flexibility are both just tools. Atlassian promised employees they could work from anywhere, permanently. By 2024, its data-driven routines and workplace experiments were shaping both its culture and its products, turning the company into an innovation lab. Now it faces a new challenge: helping customers adopt these practices, which requires hands-on support, strategic advising, and cultural change. Harvard Business School Associate Professor Ashley Whillans joins host Brian Kenny to discuss the case “Designing the Future of Work: Atlassian's Distributed Work Practices” and the questions Atlassian's leaders must answer as they try to scale what works.
0:00 - A cool camera angle emerged of RJ Harvey's TD vs the Cardinals on Saturday. He hit the tiniest hole in the offensive line, ripped straight through it, and found the end zone. When was the last time the Broncos had a guy like that?16:49 - ROX ARE GETTING HOT, BOYS! They walked it off against the Dodgers last night. They've won 6 of 7. They only need 6 wins to avoid being the worst team in the modern era. Oh how the turn tables. Also, the Browns just named Joe Flacco as their day 1 starter. Really? What's the plan here, fellas?33:35 - Joe Burrow played in Cincy's preseason game last night and, shocker, the O-Line had him running for his life. He got sacked and dogpiled a few times. In a meaningless preseason game. Hey Joe..it's preseason! Just fall down! Next, in honor of Rich Eisen returning to ESPN & SportsCenter last night, who are the greatest SportsCenter achors of all time?

So, who's ready to talk about The Darkness Around Our Hearts? What—you neither? In 3×13 “Anchors,” Stiles is having dreams about Lydia and nightmares about doors, only to wake up and find he can't exactly read. Scott's attempting to transform at random, his shadow giving away his superpower, eyes flashing red, and he's feeling completely out of control.(That is, except with the case of his best bud and roomie for life, Isaac—with whom he, uh—lets out a little Allison-related aggression.)Allison's being plagued with memories of her Aunt Kate, who tries at one point to crawl out of a morgue drawer. Her steady bowman's hands can't hold a paintbrush or, it turns out, a bow, resulting in a near death experience for Miss Lydia Martin. But yeah, they're fine. Totally fine. We're introduced to an adorkable new love interest who's just as smiley about death as she is about everything else, including her new history teacher of a father. The sheriff's got a murder board (like father, like son), Special Agent Asshole is back, and Scott and Stiles go back into the woods to try and find a dead body. What Are Your Emotional Anchors? The WISDOM podcast Season 5 Episode 78 Positive Emotional Anchors are a 'personalized strategy' and self-regulation tool. Think of it as a a grounding ritual, a cherished recollection of a past experience, a physical item or a sensory cue (e.g. a specific scent) that serves as a reliable touchstone to regulate emotions and restore balance during uncertainty. Emotional Anchors are a way to create stability and feel grounded and to return to a centered state when you feel disregulated. Emotional anchors are what link us between our present emotional state and a more preferred one. ~ Think about listening to uplifting music or your favourite song as a way to quickly uplevel your mood. Perhaps you use your breath as an anchor to return to the present moment and to feel calm. You might also use a cue word or mantra that ignites the feeling that you want to experience. In this episode, I talk about the science of why emotional anchors work for us, how we can cultivate specific anchors for different experiences and states of being ~ and of course I share several examples. He brings a powerful perspective on what love felt like on the receiving end of trauma… and what helped him slowly open the door to connection
This week's episode is all about spiritual deconstruction, what it is, why it happens, and what comes after. I'm joined by Brittney Hartley, an atheist spiritual director with a Master's in Theology who has created a captivated following with her content. I love how Brittany talks about this topic with honesty, clarity, and depth. I wanted to bring this topic to the podcast because so much of what I teach is about deconstructing beliefs that no longer work for us and figuring out what does actually work for you. Religion is often one of those things. From both my personal experience and what I know so many of you have gone through, I think you're going to love this conversation with Brittney. Here's what really hit me in our conversation: spiritual deconstruction isn't just about walking away from religion. It's about rebuilding a sense of meaning that actually aligns with who you are, not who you were told to be. Brittney shares what helped her through the unlearning process, how religious trauma shows up in sneaky ways (especially for women), and why reclaiming your intuition and identity is deeply spiritual work. What you'll hear about in this episode: Brittney's spiritual deconstruction story from Mormonism to theology school to becoming an Atheist Spiritual Director (5:40) Personality traits more likely to lead to deconstruction (spoiler: empathy, curiosity, and authenticity play a big role) (13:27) The sneakier signs of spiritual trauma for women raised in patriarchal religions (15:33) Anchors and practices that helped Brittney rebuild her identity, including discovering core values (20:34) The biggest culprit of religious trauma for women (28:35) Resources from this episode: Interested in doing deeper work within a group setting and with me? Hi Neighbor, Today marks not only our 200th episode, but also the third anniversary of this podcast. What started as a simple idea and a backyard walk has now grown into a global community of adoptive parents seeking encouragement, connection, and biblical hope. In this milestone episode, I'll take you back to where it all began. I'm recording from my outdoor “studio,” the same backyard path where I first began sharing adoption content three years ago. I reflect on the origin of the podcast, the evolution of its name, and the heart behind every episode: letting adoptive parents know they're not alone in the hard work of parenting. You'll also get a sneak peek at what's ahead for the podcast and community. Coming attractions include:
