La Porta | Renungan Harian Katolik - Daily Meditation according to Catholic Church liturgy
Delivered by Charlene Mahadi from the Parish of Santa Maria Kusumah Karmel in the Archdiocese of Jakarta, Indonesia. Isaiah 26: 1-6; Rs psalm 118: 1.8-9.19-21.25-27a; Matthew 7: 21.24-27.STRONG FOUNDATION OFFAITH The title for our meditation today is: Strong Foundation of Faith. Ourmain theme in Advent is waiting for the Lord's coming. By nature, we don't feel comfortable and become anxiouswhile waiting something or someone. Promises and hopes are always considered asblessings, however, waiting for theirrealizations often frustrate us. So the important advice is that we should havea strong foundation of faith. Waiting with strong faith is for us a must. We humans are always caughtin this situation: we are obsessed and illusioned by promises, even the great ones. The issue is whether the promise is actuallyrealized, it helps shape our imagination. But it is hoped that this obsessionshould not become a wild adventure and consume our consciousness. If we imaginea realization of hope that is not accompanied by faith or trust for the hope tocome true, we become people who suffer so terribly. What's important is arealistic attitude. Advent presents us with the promise of meeting the Lord, and at the same time we are always confronted with everyday reality full ofchallenges and struggles. Today's Word of God presents challengesthat are not easy for us. There are at least two, namely, first, strengtheningour faith with a strong foundation and building an eternal Rock that Isaiahpreaches in the first reading, and the second is beingready to face temptations, threats, tests, difficulties and sufferings. The positions ofthese two challenges must remain as such. The first does not become the secondand vice versa. The foundation of a strong faith must be first. God's Word, allof His commandments and the Christianvirtues are the useful means for strengthening faith. This aspect must beconstituted in such a way as to meet its standard such as mustard seeds whichbecome useful for all who enjoy it, yeast that develops dough, salt thatpreserves continually, and light that dispels darkness. Achieving this standardmeans we are ready and brave to face challenges, and look forward to therealization of the promise. Problems arise whenthis order is reversed: first having or experiencing challenges, sufferings, ordifficulties, then looking forward ways to strengthen one's faith. Are not manyof us find ourselves in this situation as we have problems or encounter difficulties, only then we preouccupy ourselves to find outsome particular scriptural passages or reciting some good prayers as means ofhelp? This question represents all human attitudes, who have sickness firstthen seeking medicine, difficulty first then praying, sinning first and thenconfessing sins, and so on. These are all direct effects of a lifestyle that istoo much obsessed with promises. To prevent this, we need to always strengthenour faith.Let's pray. In the name of the Father... Father of mercy, grant us the Spirit of strength so that we may becomestronger and firmer in our faith in our daily lives. Glory to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit ... In the name of the Father ...
Send us a textReady to stop chasing topline and start building a business that lasts? We sit down with Dave Sullivan—third-generation contractor, founder of The Roofer Show, and coach to growth-minded owners—to unpack how real progress comes from balancing three essentials: selling work, doing work, and keeping score. If your company leans too hard on one leg, you feel it in missed deadlines, thin margins, and constant cash stress. We walk through practical ways to get your foundation right, from clean bookkeeping and job costing to pricing for profit and forecasting cash. Dave explains why high growth without margin is a cash bonfire, how to align marketing throttle with production capacity, and what weekly numbers actually matter. For leaders stuck at $2–5M in revenue, we outline the diagnostic steps to get unstuck: rebalance your stool, document core processes, and either learn the skills you lack or hire well to fill them.Brand and culture take center stage too. A distinctive, authentic brand doesn't just win attention—it magnets quality customers and recruits great people. When your team loves where they work, they become your best recruiters, compounding capacity. We get specific about defining your ideal customer, avoiding generic “roof logo” branding, and using a one-page business plan to keep everyone focused on the same mountaintop. Are you just going through the motions? Following others without testing the spirit? Don't let unhealed people, even social media gurus and high-level Christian entrepreneurs, sway you from the path God has laid out specifically for you. Discernment is key. The narrow path isn't easy peasy to follow, but always rewarding. Trust the Holy Spirit's guidance above everyone else's clamor. Others mean well, but your journey is NOT their journey ... I've learned this the hard way, my friends. A genuine relationship with Jesus is a continuous healing journey of repentance, persistence, perseverance, and resisting the enemy's attacks. A weak relationship with Jesus will cause everything else to crumble in your life. Many start relying on performance and man-made religions instead of a fruitful relationship with Jesus Christ. Ever heard these myths about getting leads for your home cleaning business? Myth #1: You need to be everywhere on social media to get found. Myth #2: Only big cleaning companies can compete on Google. Myth #3: Google reviews don't really matter unless you have hundreds. I'm about to spill the truth behind these beliefs—and trust me, it's not what you think. Stick around, because I'll break down what really works (and what's just hype)! Gabe Bustos is one of the Founders of Hector Home Services Marketing, a no-BS lead generation agency built to help home service businesses book more jobs, take control of their marketing, and grow with confidence. Before starting Hector, Gabe had run three businesses of his own and watched them all fail for one common reason: poor marketing. You can have great services, but if you can't reliably generate sales, it's over. That lesson lit a fire, and he became obsessed with mastering digital marketing strategies that deliver consistent ROI. In this episode of Building Better Developers, hosts Rob Broadhead and Michael Meloche sit down with Kevin Adelsberger, owner of Adelsberger Marketing, to explore how small businesses can build success through branding basics. The discussion ties into the season's theme — Building Better Foundations — and shows how a thoughtful marketing strategy helps transform side hustles into thriving companies. Listen now to the full episode on Building Better Developers, available on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, and Develpreneur.com — and stay tuned for Part 2 of the conversation with Kevin Adelsberger. Starting Small: Branding Basics from Burritos to Business Kevin's marketing journey started with burritos — literally. While working at a nonprofit, he began helping a local restaurant with its marketing in exchange for food. That early “say yes to everything” mindset helped him gain experience and connections. “When you're starting out, the answer is often yes to everything,” Kevin says. “But that can spread you too thin.” This early phase taught him one of the first branding basics: you must start broad to learn, but eventually narrow your focus to your strengths. Developers, freelancers, and small business owners can take this same approach — experiment early, then specialize as your reputation and client base grow. Knowing When to Rebrand As side hustles evolve into established businesses, many entrepreneurs ask: Should I rebrand? Kevin's advice is clear — it depends on your audience. “If your new focus serves a completely different audience, rebranding makes sense. But if there's overlap, changing your name or logo might cost you valuable recognition.” One of the key branding basics is understanding brand equity — the value built over time through consistent visuals, messaging, and reputation. A name people know is worth protecting. The Four Branding Basics Every Business Needs Kevin shares his firm's framework for defining a complete brand identity — four elements that every company should eventually refine: Visual Identity – your logo, colors, and design style. Positioning – how you serve the market and what makes you different. Identity – your mission, vision, and core values. Messaging – how you communicate and connect with your audience. He notes that new businesses don't need all of these perfected on day one. Start with visual identity and positioning, then evolve the rest as your business matures. “You don't have to get everything perfect on day one. Start simple, then refine as you grow.” Avoiding Common Marketing Mistakes When asked about bad marketing, Kevin emphasizes that missteps often come from ignoring your audience. “If you're doing something just to brag and not to provide value,” he warns, “you're going to have a bad time.” A big part of branding basics is keeping your customers at the center. Test your messages, get outside feedback, and consider how different people might interpret your marketing. Kevin also highlights the danger of having too few perspectives — especially when creating ads or visuals. Diversity in feedback helps prevent tone-deaf campaigns and strengthens connections. Investing in the Right Visual Identity The conversation wraps with a discussion on logos — a key topic in branding basics. While giant brands like Nike or Amazon have iconic designs, Kevin explains that small businesses don't need to overthink it. “A good logo used well adds professionalism,” he says. “A bad one gets you confused with everyone else.” He recommends investing in a professional brand kit that includes proper logo formats, colors, and fonts. Consistency builds recognition — and recognition builds trust. Branding Basics for Long-Term Success The first part of the interview with Kevin Adelsberger reminds us that branding isn't about fancy design or big budgets. It's about clarity, consistency, and connection. Whether you're launching your first side hustle or re-shaping a growing business, mastering branding basics helps you build a foundation that lasts. A Little Background Kevin Adelsberger is the founder of Adelsberger Marketing, where they create work that grows their clients' businesses, in a culture that values their team and the Jackson, Tennessee, community. After founding in 2014, Kevin went on to be a co-founder of Our Jackson Home and host its podcast from 2015 to 2019. In 2016, Kevin was recognized as an emerging leader by Leadership Jackson. Then, in 2017, Adelsberger Marketing was named the Emerging Business of the Year by the Jackson Chamber. In 2019, Adelsberger Marketing sold partial ownership to Alexander, Thompson, and Arnold, CPAs. In 2020, Union University recognized Kevin with the Distinguished Achievement in Arts and Media award. Kevin currently serves on advisory committees for Leadership Tennessee and Jackson State Community College and is a board member for theCO in Jackson, Tennessee. He also hosts a podcast about business in West Tennessee called 40×45. Kevin lives in Jackson with his wife and business partner, Renae, and their two children. They are active foster parents and are involved members of First Baptist Church, Jackson. They are also some of the few to cheer on the Minnesota Vikings from below the Mason-Dixon line. #Skol Stay Connected: Join the Developreneur Community We invite you to join our community and share your coding journey with us.
