In Ephesians 1:15, Paul writes that he has heard of the believers' faith in the Lord Jesus and their love toward all. How are you known? The truth of your heart is not found in what you say it is revealed in how you live. Words can declare belief, but actions expose the truth of that belief. And in a world overflowing with declarations, opinions, and proclamations of faith, the quiet testimony of a life aligned with Christ speaks with a clarity that no speech can rival. As a good disciple, we work to have our behaviors match our spoken commitment. Scripture Focus: The Resurrection of Jesus Christ (Matthew 28; John 20)On that first Easter morning, when the stone was rolled away, and the tomb stood empty, something far greater than a historical moment occurred. There are moments in Scripture where God draws a bold line between what was and what now is. Hebrews 10:4–10 is one of those moments. For generations, Israel brought sacrifices—bulls, goats, lambs—year after year. A dear soul, Vincent Filardi, understood this. It is sad to think of life without Vincent, as he passed away last year. He carried with him a phrase that he offered like a lantern in dark places: “Fear is False Evidence Appearing Real.” It's not clear where this wisdom came from for Vincent, but he knew that fear often masquerades as truth. “For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?” (Mark 8:36)The world today feels more like a marketplace where the currency is not money, but the very lives of our brothers and sisters. We look across the seas to the landscapes of Venezuela and now Iran, and we see a familiar, ancient shadow wearing a new mask. Matthew 4:1–11 tells the story of Jesus being led into the wilderness, where He fasted for forty days and forty nights. In that place of hunger, isolation, and vulnerability, Jesus was tempted with a simple, seemingly harmless suggestion: “Turn these stones into bread.” But Jesus responded with a truth that echoes through every Lent season: “Man does not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.”God bless,Rev Leon

What parent would deny or turn a blind eye to the behavior of a child with whom they are well pleased? What adult would shy away from recognition for work that uplifted multitudes in need? Who among us would refuse to honor someone whose actions rose above the ordinary and poured blessings into the lives of others? There is a quiet tragedy unfolding in our communities. It is a tragedy of inaction. It is the quiet absence of the full exploration and expression of our gifts. In the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus looked out at a crowd that was weary. The land was occupied by an empire, and they were desperate for a sign that their existence carried weight in the eyes of God through Jesus. He didn't offer them a political stump speech or a shallow platitude. Instead, Jesus offered the Beatitudes, a revolutionary declaration that the very things the world ignores or exploits are the things God blesses.The landscape of today feels strikingly similar. We see the halls of power in the United States often serving the personality of an office rather than the people under its care. We see a devaluation of life that has become so pervasive it threatens to numb our very souls.We see and experience a hunger and thirst for righteousness. In many a movie we see when a character gets hurt and they continue to fight. It is not until that scene transitions that they realize that they have been bruised or wounded. Today, this nation is bruised, wounded, and trembling. It isn't clear if we know that we have been bruised or wounded. There are seasons when the world feels unsteady beneath our feet. Seasons when the protections we assumed were secure felt uncertain. Seasons when the systems we trusted to shield us seem fragile, inconsistent, or even indifferent. And in those moments, fear can creep in. Anxiety can rise. Happy New Year.Wisdom is referred to as “She.” She is a sacred feminine presence. Joseph was a righteous man. He was faithful to the law, committed to doing what was right. When he discovered Mary was with child, the law gave him options, and none of them were easy. His heart must have been torn. He loved her, yet he believed he had been betrayed. And so he resolved to “divorce her quietly,” not out of anger, but out of compassion. He sought the most merciful path he could see. But here's the other perspective: even the most righteous among us can only see as far as our human perception allows.Joseph saw a problem. God saw a promise. Joseph saw a scandal. God saw salvation. Joseph saw a reason to step away. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. once declared: “Nothing in all the world is more dangerous than sincere ignorance and conscientious stupidity.”These words pierce through the illusion that racism is ever neutral. He reminds us that prejudice is not simply a matter of misunderstanding; it is ignorance that refuses to learn, or willful stupidity that refuses to change. Both are dangerous because both perpetuate injustice. If the truth be told, these conditions are present today in troubling measure.We must be awake to justice, and awake to truth. We live in a time when leadership is often questioned. Leaders invoke the name of the Lord, but is that invocation aligned with God's will? Many people may say that it is merely a cloak for human ambition?The book of Psalms is noted to contain poems and songs. Psalm 72 offers us a prayer, a vision of what leadership infused with God's heart truly looks like. Psalm 122 begins with joy: “I was glad when they said unto me, Let us go into the house of the Lord.” This is not merely an invitation into a building; it is an invitation into fellowship. It is citing the gladness of belonging, of being welcomed into a space where we are sustained by one another. And it ends with a pledge: “I will seek your prosperity.” That is the heartbeat of the community. The pledge is to sustain the well-being of others. Colossians 1:11–20 is a hymn of praise to the excellence of Jesus Christ. Paul describes Christ as the image of the invisible God, the one in whom all things hold together, the head of the church, and the reconciler of all creation.But here is a question to consider. Today, we stand at a crossroads, burdened by the weight of unaddressed truths and histories shaped by pain and deceit. The effort to deny these truths, to cling to false narratives, creates suffering not only for those whose realities are erased but also for those living in fear of their constructed lies unraveling. The teaching of Jesus in Luke 6:27, “But I say to you who hear, love your enemies, do good to those who hate you,” is arguably one of the most hard commands in all of scripture. When applied to the pain of defamation, of being maliciously attacked, of being slandered, or ridiculed, this verse calls us not to passive endurance, but to an active, counterintuitive response that defeats the enemy's aim without compromising our own soul.God bless,Rev Leon

Let us turn our hearts and minds to a powerful, yet paradoxical, declaration from the lips, Jesus, found in the Gospel of Luke, chapter 6, verse 22. Vindication is the act of being cleared of blame or suspicion. It stands in opposition to conviction, punishment, and unjustified harm. While conviction often leads to guilt and punishment, vindication brings about a sense of relief, justice, and restoration. We need healing in the world. Too many of us have become numb to senseless violence and political partisanship at the expense of our very lives. We are experiencing challenges to life as we have known it. There are shifts occurring in many aspects of our lives, and the good news is that these changes are awakening something for all of us. We are discovering areas where we may have been asleep or blindly tolerant. Many are now beginning to identify situations in their lives where they can no longer accept those things that do not enliven. We need not get distracted by the distractions of system problems, but instead embrace the need freedom that is coming out of the insights being revealed about who we are becoming. We live in a time where declarations are louder than demonstrations. It is the Father's good pleasure to give you the kingdom. This is a powerful promise of God. The question becomes, are we worthy?
